WWW.EUROGAMER.NETEpic's latest free game now live and two more for next week officially revealedEpic's latest free game now live and two more for next week officially revealedBrotato! Lego Star Wars! More!Image credit: TT Games News by Matt Wales News Reporter Published on Nov. 28, 2024 Thursday is upon us, meaning the Epic Games Store's latest freebie is now live - and to coincide with its arrival, Epic has revealed the next two games it'll be making free in seven days time.First up for those wanting immediate amusement is developer Blowfish's Brotato, which is free to download right now until next Thursday, 5th December. It's a top-down arena shooter roguelite in which players, in the role of the titular potato, fend off alien hordes using up to six weapons at a time. Regrettably, I can't give you Eurogamer's verdict on it seeing as we haven't revewied it, but I can tell you it's currently rated Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam. As for next week's Epic freebies - which take over from Brotato in seven days time - you'll be getting public transportation shenanigans in Stillalive Studios' Bus Simulator 21, plus some family friendly sci-fi action-adventure in TT Games' Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.Brotato trailer.Watch on YouTubeThe latter, if you're unfamiliar, is a Lego-ised retelling of all three Star Wars movie trilogies, combined with some exploration and collectible gathering across a large selection of open-world planets. Eurogamer editor-in-chief Tom Phillips called The Skywalker Saga "humourous if simple fun" in his 2022 review, noting, however, that its open-world elements "held less pull."Still, if it's freebies you want, Brotato is your current Epic Games Store treat, with Bus Simulator 21 and The Skywalker Saga taking its place starting next Thursday, 5th December.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 4 Visualizações

WWW.ARCHITECTURALDIGEST.COMThis 1,000-Square-Foot NYC Apartment Has the Coolest and Most Coveted SunroomA Noguchi ceiling light hangs above a vintage coffee table, stool, and chair from Somerset House. I like to keep the colors and textures of our designs aligned to the style of the buildings theyre in, Luks says. I want my clients to never have to renovate, so I prefer timeless finishes over trends that can date quickly. Its common as a New York City architect to make sweeping changes that can modify existing layouts for the better, she says. While we did that in small ways, we spent a lot of time thinking about this apartment in sections. With such a small footprint, we had to get creative about how we layered things on top of one another. The kitchen and bathroom were reconfigured for this era, and the grandfathered-in sunroom was entirely renovated so that it could flex as a dining room, office, and guest bedroom. We hung three of the four air handlers for central air from the existing ceiling structure in the living room, and then concealed them in dropped ceilings. The fourth one is actually concealed above the bookcases in the living room and closets in the bedroom. And that bookcase also conceals a wine fridge.Luks says that carrying out these changes was like solving a Rubiks cube instead of a jigsaw puzzle, but she enjoyed the challenge. And besides, its fun when everyone enjoys the same warm-yet-neutral palette. This is probably my dream kitchen in terms of color and finishes, she says. We chose the paint color together, which is Farrow & Balls Skylight, and then I ran with the millwork and layout.Luks found the slab from BAS Stone and paired it with cabinet knobs from Water Street Brass, a Waterworks faucet, and a Barclay sink. A Viking range also makes a statement.Farrow & Balls Skylight adds a subtle hint of color. After about two years of working as a team, Luks left the apartment to Sullivan and Pitt at the start of 2024. She had spent years researching the history of century-old homes, learning how to honor them. And she committed herself to finding just the right materials to meet present expectationsit took visiting five different outfitters to find that exact Stilton cheese kitchen countertop the owners requested. Luks wasnt surprised by how dedicated she was to this place. Perhaps she was just returning the favor. Its very important to me to create a connection between any project Im working on and the surrounding area, Luks says. Infusing the home with a sense of history has made it feel grounded and period appropriate.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 3 Visualizações

WWW.ARCHITECTURALDIGEST.COMPlaying House: How the Home Became a Muse for Fashion DesignersThere are times when Im reviewing images of runway collections and ask myself, Is that what I think I think it is? Trompe lil, the artistic device of visual trickery that fools the viewer into believing the illusion of an object is real, has a long history in painting, architecture, and fashion. As models sauntered down the runway for JW Andersons spring 2025 menswear collection, I noticed four quadrants of grids stitched into a collared button-down cardigan, but wait, is that a red door on the cuff? It was.Jonathan Anderson, founder of his namesake brand, noted that, for this collection, he wanted to construct irrational clothing. However, I would argue that his wearable interpretations of English architectural stylesranging from shift dress town houses to Cornish cottage cardigans are some of the best motifs you can add to your closet. How we dress ourselves is often reflected in how we dress our homes, and a new generation of fashion designers is game for playing house, further exploring the relationship between the closet and the rest of interior world.Home has proven to be fertile creative ground for more than just Anderson lately, as evidenced by the runways at both Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks this past September. Vivetta Ponti has always translated her admiration for interior design into her own collections, as seen in her spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection. For this body of work, a project at home led to the creation of a light blue moir pillow top, a gardens worth of lily-of-the-valley embroidery and rose prints, and a recurring motif of fabric draped to resemble an open curtain.A model wears a ruffle pillow top embroidered with sweet dreams on the runway for Vivetta SS25 at Milan Fashion Week.Image courtesy of VivettaA purse made in collaboration with Rosantica from Vivettas SS25 collection.Photo: Marco MantovaniMy first ideas came from looking for new curtains for my home, Ponti says. When I start to work on a new collection, I consider all of the [features of my home] that I like, and sometimes this comes from the different Sanderson wallpapers in my home; I wanted pale pastel curtains that would [nod] to the wallpaperss colors and patterns. The pastel colors throughout the collection reminded me of 1980s interiors. The person who lives in this style of house would wear this collection. One of the standout pieces of this collection is a house-shaped bag featuring 2,500 colored crystals that master artisans crafted in partnership with the Milan-based accessories brand Rosantica. The luxury labels founder Michela Panero explains that the team took a highly detail-oriented approach in weaving elements of Pontis life into the piece. If you look closely, we represented Vivettas three cats on the bag, she says. Since the window motif is prominent in the garments, I wanted to make sure that the windows opened and closed. We even added a little curtain to tie it to the collection. In my mind, another high-end house-shaped bag is situated in the same neighborhood as Pontis: the Maison de Famille handbag designed by Nicolas Ghesquire for Louis Vuitton SS23, modeled after Vuittons own Art Nouveaustyle home in Asnires. The exterior of the whimsical home that belongs to Samantha Pleets grandmother.Photo: Tara VioletLike Ponti, New Yorkbased fashion designer Samatha Pleet also has a fondness for floral-patterned wallpaper, specifically the bloom-adorned walls of her grandmothers Tudor-style home. My whole brand is inspired by my grandmothers home, she explains. Its a bohemian jewel box. Nothings too perfect, and there are countless antiques that enhance the maximalist environment. She matched floral wallpaper with drapes in many rooms of her home and coordinated displays of objects like opaline glass within these spaces, usually sticking to a monochromic theme like all green or all pink.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 3 Visualizações

WWW.BLENDERNATION.COMBehind the Scenes: Time to go GhostBehind the Scenes: Time to go Ghost By Alina Khan on November 28, 2024 Behind the Scenes Head into Cristines art process as she uses simple steps to illustrate a whimsical graveyard scene with clever modeling.INTRODUCTIONHi there! My name is Cristine Tellier and I live in So Paulo, Brazil. Until December, last year, I worked as an IT architecture coordinator at a retail business, doing some freelance 3D jobs during my free time. But now, I'm a full time 3D artist.I've found out about 3D modeling while taking a game dev class and I realized that besides liking it a lot, I could be good at it too.I have known Maya and ZBrush since 2018, and I "discovered" Blender during quarantine with some free classes on the "3D na Revo" YouTube channel. And soon after, I enrolled in a Blender course at Escola Revolution.I also like VFX and motion graphics but my focus has been modeling, materials, and renderingthe more procedural, the better.INSPIRATIONThis was made to take part in the "Blender Sem Medo" challenge at Escola Revolution. The theme was Halloween-related, and it was mandatory to have a ghost in the scene. The event consists of 4 days of free Blender classes, teaching people (3D newbies or not) how to build a complete scene from scratch. Current students also participate in a separate challenge, and this artwork was my entry.Unlike most of my friends, I like to create small scenesa legacy from the time when my computer couldn't render very large ones.I've gone through some ideas, and I started thinking about making an isometric scene. But at some point, something reminds me of a Blender tutorial with this dude riding a scooter over a cylindrical street passing under him, and the idea of making a small graveyard over spherical ground began to take over my mind. While I was modeling the vault, tombstones, and crosses, it made more and more sense to me that this was the path.PROCESSTools PureRef Blender Photoshop ReferencesI was looking for the ideal visual identity for my ghost but in the end, I gave up on the cute, stylized look in favor of a more "traditional" ghost. I remembered a procedural material tutorial I had watched a while back and thought it would be a good basis for my own "Casper.Block-outBased on the refs I collected, I had a pretty good idea of what the scene should look like, and then I started to add simple shapes to study the general composition.ModelingSince the blockout process was completed, I've started to model the vault. I should have done just its basic shape, but I ended up getting so excited with its look and going into more detail than I should have at this stage. Then I moved on to the tombstones and crosses, and finally to the simplest modelsthe fence and the candles.Ive made the ghost in a separate file. I spent some time choosing the best sheet shape and the best frame of the simulation before importing it to the main scene. No, I'm not forgetting the trees. Last November, I made a node tree to procedurally model a tree. I took it, modified it a little, and used it.Geometry NodesAs I said, I used geometry nodes to model the trees. And not only that, I also made a node tree to wear down all the stones. The fence was made procedurally as well and obviously, the displacement in the terrain and all the scattering were made using geometry nodes.TexturingPainted textures are definitely not my thing. I do like procedural stuff. So, all materials are procedural: the concrete, the wood, the grass, the rocks, even the moon, and the ghost, of course. And once I wasn't painting textures, no need to generate ultra-perfect UVs. The basic projectionsplanar, cube, cylinderwere enough. For the lighting, I've used an HDRI as ambient light, some area lights to shape edges, and a sun-light to light the moon.RenderingHere are the graveyard models I made for the scene: Technical information about my final render: Software 3D: Blender 4.2.3 LTS Main Render: Cycles, 1920 x 1080 px, 2048 samples CAM: Perspective 55mm, FOV 24.4, DOF 22m, F-Stop 1.0 Post production: Adobe Photoshop And that was it! Below is the final render and animation.RENDER: Time to go Ghost Animation:http://www.blendernation.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/graveyard2.mp4Thank you for reading. FORTUNE.COMGen Z is drowning in debt as buy-now-pay-later services skyrocket: 'They're continuing to bury their heads in the sand and spend'More shoppers than ever are on track to usebuy now, pay later plansthis holiday season, as the ability to spread out payments looks attractive at a time when Americans still feel the lingering effect of inflation and already have record-high credit card debt. The data firm Adobe Analytics predicts shoppers will spend 11.4% more this holiday season using buy now, pay later than they did a year ago. The company forecasts shoppers will purchase $18.5 billion worth of goods using the third-party services for the period Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, with $993 million worth of purchases on Cyber Monday alone.Buy now, pay later can be particularly appealing to consumers who have low credit scores or no credit history, such as younger shoppers, because most of the companies providing the service run only soft credit checks and dont report the loans and payment histories to the credit bureaus, unlike credit card companies. This holiday season, buy now, pay later users can also feel more confident if a transaction goes awry. In May, theCFPB said buy now, pay later companies must adhere to other regulationsthat govern traditional credit, such as providing ways to demand refunds and dispute transactions. To use a buy now, pay later plan, consumers typically sign up with bank account information or a debit or credit card, and agree to pay for purchases in monthly installments, typically over eight weeks or more. The loans are marketed as requiring no or low interest, or only conditional fees, such as for late payment. Klarna, Afterpay and Affirm are three of the biggest buy now, pay later companies. But consumer advocates warn that shoppers who sign up for the payment plans using a credit card can be hit with more interest and fees. Thats because the shopper opens themselves up to interest on the credit card payment, if its carried month to month, on top of any late fees, interest, or penalties from the buy now, pay later loan itself. Experts advise against using a credit card to pay for these plans for this reason.Consumer watchdogs also say the plans lead consumers to overextend themselves because, for example, not paying full price up front leaves, in the shoppers mind at least, more money for smaller purchases. They also caution consumers to keep careful track of using multiple buy now, pay later services, as the automatic payments can add up, and there is no central reporting, such as with a credit card statement.Buy now, pay later can be an innovative tool for purchases youre going to make anyway, said Mark Elliott, chief customer officer at financial services company LendingClub. The challenge is that it does fuel overspending. For merchants, thats part of the appeal. Retailers have found that customersare more likely to have bigger cart sizesor to convert from browsing to checking out when buy now, pay later is offered. Onereport from the Federal Reserve Bank of New Yorkcited research that found customers spend 20% more when buy now, pay later is available. The reality is that the increased cost-of-living and inflation have put more people in a situation where theyre already relying on revolving credit, Elliott said. The psychographics of buy now, pay later may be different people dont think of it as debt but it is.If a consumer misses a payment, they can face fees, interest, or the possibility of being locked out of using the services in the future.Emily Childers, consumer financial expert for personal-finance technology company Credit Karma, said that internal data shows member credit card balances are up more than 50% for Gen Z and millennial members since March 2022, when the Fed started raising interest rates.Young people are entering this holiday season already in the red, she said. And, based on what were seeing in the data, theyre continuing to bury their heads in the sand and spend.___The Associated Press receives support from Charles Schwab Foundation for educational and explanatory reporting to improve financial literacy.
