• Apples Find My network exploit lets hackers silently track any Bluetooth device
    9to5mac.com
Apples Find My network lets users easily track their devices and accessories such as AirTag. However, despite having anti-stalking features, researchers at George Mason University recently discovered an exploit that lets hackers silently track any Bluetooth device through Apples network.Hackers can use Apples Find My to track devices and stalk peopleAs explained by the researchers in a blog post, they have essentially found a way to turn any device such as a phone or laptop into an AirTag without the owner ever realizing it. After that, hackers could remotely track the location of that device. For those unfamiliar, Apples Find My network works by sending Bluetooth messages from AirTag and other compatible item trackers to nearby Apple devices. The devices then anonymously share the location of that AirTag directly with the owner via Apples servers. What the researchers did was find a way to make the Find My network track any Bluetooth device by using the right key.Although AirTag was designed to change its Bluetooth address based on a cryptographic key, the attackers developed a system that could quickly find keys for Bluetooth addresses. This was made possible by using hundreds of GPUs to find a key match. The exploit called nRootTag has a frightening success rate of 90% and doesnt require sophisticated administrator privilege escalation. In one of the experiments, the researchers were able to track the location of a computer with an accuracy of 10 feet, which allowed them to trace a bicycle moving through the city. In another experiment, they reconstructed a persons flight path by tracking their game console. While it is scary if your smart lock is hacked, it becomes far more horrifying if the attacker also knows its location. With the attack method we introduced, the attacker can achieve this, said one of the researchers. The researchers informed Apple about the exploit in July 2024 and recommended that the company update its Find My network to better verify Bluetooth devices. Although the company has publicly acknowledged the support of the George Mason team in discovering the exploit, Apple is yet to fix it (and hasnt provided details of how it will do so).The researchers warn that a true fix may take years to roll out, since even after Apple releases a new version of iOS that fixes the exploit, not everyone will update their iPhones and iPads immediately. For now, they advise users to never allow unnecessary access to the devices Bluetooth when requested by apps, and of course, always keep their devices software updated.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Heres how Apple Intelligence behaves when you try to use it in multiple languages
    9to5mac.com
With the release of the first beta of iOS 18.4 last week, Apple has finally expanded the capabilities of Apple Intelligence to languages other than English. But one of the questions that non-English users had was will Apple Intelligence work in multiple languages? Read on as I detail the experience of using Apples AI features in two different languages. In short, yes, you can use Apple Intelligence in multiple languages. Although this may seem obvious when you think about other generative AIs like ChatGPT, Apple Intelligence is still quite basic compared to its competitors and I was one of the people worried about how Apple would handle prompts in languages other than the one set on the device. To use Apple Intelligence, you need to set both your device and Siri to one of the supported languages. With iOS 18.4 beta, these languages are:English (Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, UK, and US)FrenchGermanItalianPortuguese (Brazil)SpanishJapaneseKoreanChinese (simplified)What its like to use Apple Intelligence with two or more languagesBut what if you speak two or more languages? Here, for example, I use my devices in English, but Portuguese is my native language, which means I also write and read a lot of content in Portuguese. To my surprise, Apple Intelligence can handle both languages just fine.To create a Genmoji or use Writing Tools, I can enter prompts in either English or Portuguese, and the system understands the language Im typing without having to change any settings. In fact, when it comes to Genmoji, I was happy to find out that Apple has also added a bit of Brazilian knowledge to Apple Intelligence, such as specific Brazilian dishes. I believe the same applies to the other new languages supported. The summarization feature also works in both languages, even for notifications. When I receive messages in Portuguese, the summary is shown in Portuguese. If the text is in English, the summary will appear in English. The same applies to summaries generated by Safari and Mail.Of course, there are still some gaps to be addressed in the future. Theres no way to interact with Siri by voice using a language other than the one you set in the settings, but Type to Siri works in multiple languages so thats something. Some basic features work automatically. However, others (like Genmoji) only work after adding a second or third language to your device so that Apple Intelligence downloads extra language models for them. To do this, go to the Language & Region settings on your device and add a new language (you can do this without changing the main system language). Its worth noting that iOS 18.4 will be released to the public in April. For now, the update is only available in beta.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. • Jeff Bezos Announces That Washington Post Opinions Will Now Exclusively Celebrate the Glories of Capitalism
    futurism.com
The free market just got a little more so today, thanks to the benevolent decree of one of the richest men who's ever lived.Seriously though, an email from Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos to the newspaper's staff is now saying the quiet part out loud: the newspaper will no longer tolerate opinions its billionaire backer disproves of."I'm writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages," the email begins. "We are going to be writing every day in support of defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets.""Well cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others," Bezos continues. "There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the readers doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.The brave new pillars come in the aftermath of a 10 percent drop in subscribers from Bezos' decision not to let the paper endorse a presidential candidate, which was widely decried as an egregious example of a media boss steering its coverage for his own personal benefit. To say this latest announcement went over poorly might be an understatement. As a result of Bezos' mandate of freedom, WaPo's opinion editor, David Shipley, announced his resignation.A number of the paper's current and former employees have condemned the decision, with former executive editor Marty Baron telling theDaily Beast he was "sad and disgusted" at Bezos' decision to put his business interests over those of independent journalism."Massive encroachment by Jeff Bezos into The Washington Post's opinion section today," wrote the Post's lead economics journalist Jeff Stein. "[It] makes clear dissenting views will not be published or tolerated there.Despite harsh backlash, WaPo has long been eyed by media critics for its blatant conflicts of interests tied to the billionaire's involvement, though that criticism has sometimes been overshadowed by the newspaper's lipservice to vaguely progressive ideals. If there's one thing to praise the tech mogul for, its that he's finally putting his cards on the table."Im confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America," wrote the 3rd richest man in the world. "I also believe these viewpoints are underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion."Credit where it's due: it takes a lotof gall to make that claim as a man whose net worth eclipses that of most nations, enjoying a personal utopia in a country where billionaires own more than half the population combined. While Bezos' executive order may seem like a right turn for a staple of mainstream media, it might be better understood as a "mask off" moment, a rare but honest peek behind the curtain. When we look at his moves in context with his fellow captains of industry, it's not so surprising.Fellow travler Elon Musk, for example, made a massive play to secure his own media empire by purchasing X-formerly-Twitter, a platform he can now bend as he likes to shape the political landscape, with no need to fake impartiality. Mark Zuckerberg likewise helms a massive social media conglomerate in Meta, which he routinely uses to flout democracy for his own gain.In reality, the great majority of news outlets in western society are owned by for-profit corporations and billionaires. Far from underserved, Bezos' "free market pillar" is the dominant viewpoint in our media and our lives. At least they're finally owning up to it.Share This Article

  • There's Something Very Sketchy Going on With the Government Trying to Buy $400 Million in Armored Teslas
    futurism.com
Last month, US State Department documents came to light showing plans to spend $400 million on "Armored Tesla" vehicles. The optics were bad, to say the least. The planned spending appeared to be one of the most glaring examples yet of Tesla CEO and unelected White House advisor Elon Musk's enormous conflict of interest.Department staffers quickly edited the item to read "armored electric vehicles" instead. Officials also tried to distance the agency from the brewing controversy, saying in a statement that the contract is "on hold and there are no current plans to issue it."Given the date of the document, reports at the time suggested that the line item predated Trump's second term, and was the result of the Biden administration asking the State Department to "explore interest from private companies to produce armored electric vehicles," as a State Department spokesperson told The Hill earlier this month. But now, new reporting by NPR has blown the case wide open. According to a State Department document obtained by the broadcaster, Biden's State Department planned to spend just $483,000 in 2025 to buy electric vehicles, on top of $3 million for other equipment, including chargers. That's less than one percent of the $400 million figure that originally appeared in the previously reported-on version of the procurement forecast. The document also claims it was published in December, but doesn't appear in the Internet Archive, suggesting it was published later. The latest revelations raise urgent questions: was the State Department trying to hide Musk's naked conflict of interest by hastily editing the document? Was it a massive error by a State Department staffer? Who was actually behind the procurement and who originally suggested it should be Teslas?Considering Musk has already massively enriched himself on the dime of American taxpayers, it certainly wouldn't be a stretch to suggest it was an intentional move to hand his EV maker a cushy government contract."I don't think this is a clerical error,"a former Biden State Department official told NPR. "It was likely someone who is new in [the] State [Department] who decided, 'OK, we're gonna do this with Tesla.'"The official confirmed that the Biden administration had looked into armoring EVs, but hadn't set aside a budget. However, just under half a million dollars had been approved to buy "light-duty EVs as possible State Department vehicles," according to NPR.A current spokesperson reaffirmed to the broadcaster in a statement that the "Department of State has no intention to move forward with the solicitation."Considering Musk has long portrayed the Cybertruck as an "armored personnel carrier from the future," it's likely the original line item was referring to the divisive pickups. However, experts have since pointed out they'd be an extremely bad fit compared to other conventional armored vehicles. Not only would "up-armoring" Cybertrucks be extremely expensive replacing the State Department's fleet of 3,000 vehicles with beefed-up Cybertrcucks would indeed cost around $400 million, according to NPR's estimates they'd also end up being extremely heavy.Cybertrucks already weigh around 6,600 pounds. With an additional 1,000 pounds of armor, their already abysmal range could drop even further. In other words, important government officials could risk getting stuck on the road which isn't great when your number one priority is to safely get them from point A to point B.More on the line item: State Department Says Contract for $400 Million of "Armored Teslas" on Hold After Explosive OutcryShare This Article

  • I Tested the $599 iPhone 16E and Its Good but Also Kind of Odd
    www.cnet.com
8.5/ 10 SCORE Apple iPhone 16E $599 at Apple Pros Does most of the Apple stuff I want Battery life is great so far Matte finish back The rear camera is good A18 chip performance Cons $599 price isn't cheap Odd value proposition Lacks MagSafe Screen is good, but wonder how it will age I'm holding the $599 iPhone 16E in the air think Statue of Liberty pose as I stand on the roof of CNET's six-story office building to test the new phone's Emergency SOS via Satellite feature. In a matter of seconds, the 16E is connected to a satellite despite being in the middle of downtown San Francisco. I can't think of any other $600 phone that can do this.Satellite connectivity isn't necessarily at the top of the list for what people want in their phone. Usually, it's good battery life (which the iPhone 16E has), a good camera (the 16E checks that off too) and a decent price (which the 16E just misses).Apple took a Taco Bell-like approach with the iPhone 16E, mixing and matching parts and features from prior phones to create a "new" iPhone. Its design and screen are similar to the iPhone 14. Its A18 processor is the same as the one in the iPhone 16. And this gives the iPhone 16E a weird value proposition. It's new, but it's old. It's affordable, but not cheap. Watch this: iPhone 16E Review 07:20 After testing the iPhone 16E for six days, I was surprised the most by how wonderfully uneventful it was to use. Along with all the standard iOS 18 functions and goodies, like iMessage and FaceTime, I used Apple Intelligence, made calls on 5G, took a bunch of share-worthy photos and videos and played video games like Resident Evil 4.What more could you want, right?I can also do all of these things on the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, but don't need to pay as much to do so with the 16E. I wouldn't call the iPhone 16E a budget or cheap phone. But it does plenty to earn that $600 price, even if it does miss that $500 sweet spot other affordable phones like the Google Pixel 8A hit.If you can get a discount or a carrier deal to lower the price, the iPhone 16E's value becomes even better.iPhone 16E: Should you buy it? With a single rear camera and an A18 processor, who should buy the iPhone 16E? Celso Bulgatti/CNETIf you're rocking an iPhone SE, an iPhone 11 or older, the 16E will be a nice upgrade in every way, from the camera to the battery life -- though you might miss that ultrawide camera. I also think that this is a good phone for people using Android phones who want to switch and dip the proverbial toe into Apple's waters. The iPhone 16E could be a solid option for teenagers as well as adults who don't care about having the most cutting-edge phone tech, especially if they're on an iPhone that's four or five years old.Between the 16E and the iPhone 15, I'd go with the 16E, as long as you're OK not having the Dynamic Island, an ultrawide camera and MagSafe. The 16E's A18 processor is its secret sauce and will no doubt be supported longer than the iPhone 15's A16 Bionic hand-me-down chip which came out on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022.Choosing between the iPhone 16 and the 16E is a bit tougher. If you have the budget, I'd go with the regular 16. You get a brighter screen, MagSafe, and an ultrawide camera that doubles as a macro lens -- great for taking close-up photos like of food since the main camera automatically switches to a cropped version of the ultrawide in order to nail focus.iPhone 16E design The iPhone 16E's screen has a notch at the top instead of a cutout for the Dynamic Island that's found on newer iPhone models. Celso Bulgatti/CNETThe iPhone 16E's flat-sided design is similar to every phone Apple launched since the iPhone 12, aside from the SE. The back glass has a sophisticated textured matte finish, which looks understated and gives the iPhone 16E a more premium air. There's no camera bump sticking out of the back, just a single lens, which makes the black iPhone 16E I've been testing have some serious 2001: A Space Odyssey monolith vibes. The iPhone 16E's screen reminds me of the one on the iPhone 14. It's 6.1 inches and has an old school-style notch at the top to house the selfie camera and FaceID tech. The notch didn't bother me in use, but I did miss having the Dynamic Island and seeing background activities, like a timer at the top of my screen count down as I'm cooking. The iPhone 16E seems aimed at folks with older iPhones that don't even have the Dynamic Island. So they won't know what they're missing. Even though the iPhone 16E's screen has a lower maximum brightness than the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, it's still easy to read in direct sunlight. Celso Bulgatti/CNETIn everyday use, even outdoors, the screen looks good. I wish the 16E (and the iPhone 16 for that matter) had a high-refresh rate screen -- what Apple calls Pro Motion. Nearly all Android phones at this price or cheaper have one. I guess if you want a better screen with a high-refresh rate, there's always the iPhone 16 Pro. I think the 16E's screen will age better than the 4.7-inch one on the last iPhone SE did. But what will it be like to use the 16E in three or four years? The iPhone 16E lacks support for MagSafe, the magnetic connection system on the back of the phone, which isn't the end of the world. I imagine that people who don't have an iPhone with MagSafe won't know what they're missing -- notice a theme here? But in a household shared with someone who does have an iPhone with MagSafe as well as charging stands, I could see that being a bit annoying. My guess is that phone case companies will make iPhone 16E cases with magnets that will allow the 16E to work with magnetic stands and accessories.iPhone 16E cameras The iPhone 16E has a 48-megapixel rear camera. Celso Bulgatti/CNETThe iPhone 16E has a single rear camera. I've said it before, but I'd rather have one really good camera than the two or three mediocre ones that can often be found on budget phones. The 16E's main camera takes lovely photos, even when using night mode. It has a 48-megapixel sensor, which has enough resolution for sensor cropping to offer a 2x magnification, and the results are decent. Images look sharp, have a nice dynamic range (good for high-contrast lighting like sunrises/sunsets), and colors are attractively subdued. Is the iPhone 16 more versatile with its second rear camera that's an ultrawide lens? Yes. Does the iPhone 16 Pro take better photos? Yes. The iPhone 16E is great for someone who just wants to document a moment and share it with friends and family or post a quick selfie to Instagram or a video on TikTok. iPhone 16E at 2x. Patrick Holland/CNET iPhone 16E at 1x. Patrick Holland/CNET iPhone 16E night mode. Patrick Holland/CNET iPhone 16E at 1x. Patrick Holland/CNET iPhone 16E night mode. Patrick Holland/CNETiPhone 16E modem and 5G calls The iPhone 16E has the C1 modem -- Apple's first. Celso Bulgatti/CNETThe iPhone 16E's actually has a new feature that no other Apple phone does: a modem. Most people have no idea what kind of modem their phone has and just want assurance that they get a signal and can reliably make voice or video calls that sound good. And the iPhone 16E delivers on both accounts. Phone calls sounded clear and video calls over 5G never froze.Technically, it's impressive that Apple designed the C1 modem (it's first), and the calls I made on the iPhone 16E (indoors, outdoors around San Francisco on AT&T) sounded good and clear.I was able to use 5G to download apps on the go like PGA Tour Pro Golf (2.4GB) in less than a minute. I was also able to stream Severance on the Apple TV Plus app over 5G with no problem.iPhone 16E and 16 Pro Max 5G Speeds on AT&T 16E download speed 525Mbps110Mbps196Mbps112Mbps188Mbps16E upload speed 143Mbps18Mbps47.2Mbps16.8Mbps43.1Mbps16 Pro Max download speed -152Mbps215Mbps163Mbps312Mbps16 Pro Max upload speed -3Mbps33Mbps4.45Mbps44.9Mbps I ran tests side by side with an iPhone 16 Pro Max that was also on AT&T using the Speed Test app by Ookla, which is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis. And while the 16 Pro Max had faster download speeds, the 16E's results were still good. In fact, its upload speeds beat the 16 Pro Max, which means selfies and videos post quickly to Instagram and TikTok, while video calls look and sound good without any freezes.iPhone 16E battery, iOS and services The iPhone 16E has a USB-C port for charging. Celso Bulgatti/CNETI've had the 16E for six days and only had to charge it three times. I used a 30-watt wall charger, and the 16E went from empty to 59% in 30 minutes. And I've been using the phone heavily, testing the cameras, running Apple Intelligence tools and playing graphics intensive games. The iPhone 16E can definitely make it through a day on a single charge and, depending on how you use it, it'll likely make it through a day and a half before needing to be plugged in.In CNET's video streaming battery test with the battery charged to 100%, the iPhone 16E didn't drop a single percent after an hour. Compare that to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15, each of which dropped to 97% after an hour in the same test. I have more battery tests to run, but so far the iPhone 16E has a great battery life. The iPhone 16E runs iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence. James Martin/CNETThe iPhone 16E is powered by Apple's A18 chip, just like the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. The only difference is the version in the 16E has four GPU cores instead of five. In everyday use, the phone had no issues playing video games, editing and saving videos and using Apple Intelligence. In benchmark test for the CPU, the iPhone 16E scored higher than the iPhone 16, iPhone 15 and iPhone SE.Geekbench v.6.0 Apple iPhone 16E 3,323 8,111Apple iPhone 16 3,193 7,783Apple iPhone 15 2,618 6,580Apple iPhone SE (2022) 2,237 5,177 Single-core Multicore Note: Longer bars indicate better performance In benchmark test for graphic performance, you can really see the difference that the iPhone 16's extra GPU core has over the iPhone 16E. Being able to customize the home screen and control center adds a nice personal touch, and I also get all of Apple's emergency features, including satellite support to reach emergency responders when there's no cell signal. The iPhone 16E doesn't have every Apple bell and whistle, but the company wisely included many of the best ones.iPhone 16E last thoughts The iPhone 16E is a good phone Celso Bulgatti/CNET$600 is a lot of money, at least for me, but I think the iPhone 16E is worth it. I do recommend looking into carrier deals, discounts and trade-ins to drop that price a bit, unless you're set on doing an installment plan over a couple of years. Even if Apple made a version of this phone that's closer to $500, it would have had to omit or compromise on more features. We test a phone's features, play games and take photos. We examine the display to see if it's bright, sharp and vibrant. We analyze the design and build to see how it is to hold and whether it has an IP-rating for water resistance. We push the processor's performance to the extremes using standardized benchmark tools like GeekBench and 3DMark, along with our own anecdotal observations navigating the interface, recording high-resolution videos and playing graphically intense games at high refresh rates. All the cameras are tested in a variety of conditions from bright sunlight to dark indoor scenes. We try out special features like night mode and portrait mode and compare our findings against similarly priced competing phones. We also check out the battery life by using it daily as well as running a series of battery drain tests. We take into account additional features like support for 5G, satellite connectivity, fingerprint and face sensors, stylus support, fast charging speeds and foldable displays, among others that can be useful. We balance all of this against the price to give you the verdict on whether that phone, whatever price it is, actually represents good value. While these tests may not always be reflected in CNET's initial review, we conduct follow-up and long-term testing in most circumstances.

  • Celebrate Pokemon Day by Playing the 25 Best Pokemon Games of All Time
    www.cnet.com
There's a reason your mom knows Pikachu. Over the past three decades, Pokemon has gone from being Satoshi Tajiro's childhood dream to the highest-grossing entertainment franchise in the world. The pocket monsters' legacy includes a wildly popular anime, widely-scalped trading cards, a movie starring Ryan Reynolds and many, many games. As we gear up for Pokemon Day 2025 -- where we'll hopefully hear more about Pokemon: Legends Z-A and a new generation of mainline games -- it's time to take a look back at the best Pokemon games from years past. There's a Pokemon game out there for nearly every gamer, whether you love exploring new worlds, bonding with cuddly creatures, crawling through dungeons, solving mysteries or battling with other players. We've curated this list of the best Pokemon games you can play right now, including mainline games and spin-off titles from throughout the franchise's history.Best Pokemon games of all time Nintendo 25. Pokken Tournament DX If you've ever wanted more action from your Pokemon battles, the Pokken fighting game series is right up your alley. Pokken Tournament DX lets players put together teams of three and go head-to-head in the arena. There are 21 playable monsters, including classics like Charizard, Mewtwo, Gengar and Machamp -- but the roster also includes other fan favorites like Gardevoir, Garchomp and Decidueye. This fighting game doesn't have the greatest breadth of content and has a rather lackluster singleplayer campaign, but there's a lot of depth to be explored in player-versus-player combat. Players must learn multiple characters and build good team synergy between their chosen Pokemon. Additionally, 15 different "support Pokemon" can be chosen to aid your team (or hinder your opponent) as a match unfolds, adding another layer to Pokken's meta strategy. In order to succeed in Pokken Tournament DX, you need to learn move strings and master your characters, but you also need to play around with counters and learn team synergy. It's the perfect combination of a Pokemon game and an arena fighter.Release Date: Sept. 22, 2017Genre: Competitive 3D fighting gameDeveloper: Bandai Namco Studios Nintendo 24. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee The Kanto region makes a return on the Nintendo Switch's Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. These extremely kid-friendly games make generation one Pokemon accessible to anyone, by cutting out most wild Pokemon battles and giving players a cute (and strong) partner Pokemon. The Let's Go games are a retread of the original Pokemon gym challenge, but they incorporate 3D graphics and Pokemon Go catching mechanics to revitalize and refresh a tired adventure. As with many of the Nintendo Switch Pokemon games, it's very easy to draft up a competitive team with Exp. Candies, bottle caps that max out IVs and more. Shiny Pokemon hunting is also easier, with a new method allowing players to chain Pokemon catches from the same species in order to boost the odds of running into one of the elusive chromatic oddities. Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee aren't the hardest Pokemon games, and they're not the best generation one titles either -- but Pokemon Go on a home console is a very appealing prospect all the same.Release Date: Nov. 16, 2018Genre: Kanto offshoot incorporating Pokemon Go catch mechanicsDeveloper: Game Freak Nintendo 23. Pokemon Unite While multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs) have a bad reputation for building toxic communities, Pokemon Unite offers a fairly family-friendly alternative to games like League of Legends, DOTA 2 and Smite. Players participate in 10-minute long, five-versus-five matches where they need to evolve their Pokemon, gain power and beat their opponents by depositing points in goals around the map.Pokemon Unite limits text chat by default, and incoming voice chat can be turned off in the settings. There's no visible scoreboard, which is intended to prevent angry teammates from rage quitting before the end of the match. These quality-of-life features make it stress-free to solo queue and learn any of the 62 Pokemon featured within the game. Unite follows a free-to-play model and is a straightforward MOBA experience for new players -- making it great way for interested parties to dip their toes into the genre.Release Date: July 21, 2021Genre: Simplified multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA)Developer: TiMi Studio Group See at Nintendo Nintendo 22. Pokemon TCG Pocket The latest true pocket monster craze makes Pokemon TCG more accessible to casual fans, which is an impressive feat. Cutting through the feature creep that has defined the physical card game, Pokemon TCG Pocket has launched several "back to basics" expansions that focus on simple mechanics like Pokemon Ex cards, Pokemon tools and trainer and supporter cards. Prebuilt decks and AI battles teach the fundamentals of battling, removing a lot of pressure from new players looking to dive right in.If you're just a casual collector, TCG Pocket still offers the thrill of ripping two free packs every day. Events dish out hourglasses that let players earn even more packs, and it's possible to accrue a respectable repertoire of Pokemon cards without spending a cent if you log in consistently. Pokemon TCG Pocket balances beautiful new art with base set classics, and it's always exciting to fill in the empty spaces in your binder when new cards are released.Release Date: Oct. 30, 2024Genre: Trading card game with collecting and battling mechanicsDeveloper:DeNA See at Apps.apple Nintendo 21. Detective Pikachu Before Ryan Reynolds voiced everyone's favorite electric rat, Pikachu donned his trench coat and tweed hat to solve mysteries on the 3DS. This Creatures Inc. game will feel familiar to folks who enjoy a good visual novel mystery. In Detective Pikachu, players step into the role of Tim Goodman, whose father recently went missing after getting caught up in a sinister conspiracy. After finding his dad's talking Pikachu, Tim joins the Baker Detective Agency to solve the case.Detective Pikachu plays out like many other mystery procedurals, where players will scan scenes for clues, speak with nearby Pokemon and interrogate people to figure out what happened. There are multiple cases to solve that build up the overarching storyline. If you've seen the movie, you'll have an idea of what's going on here, but the plot is just different enough to catch you by surprise. At its core, Detective Pikachu understands what Pokemon is all about: the bond between human and monster as they work together toward a common goal.Release Date: March 23, 2018Genre: Mystery and adventure-filled visual novelDeveloper: Creatures Inc. See at Nintendo Nintendo 20. Pokemon Conquest Move over Fire Emblem: Pokemon Conquest is a tactical RPG about uniting warriors under one banner and overcoming great adversity to conquer the kingdoms of the Ransei region. Conquest derives its plot from historical events that took place during Japan's Warring States period, though here our hero needs to defeat all opposing forces to seek counsel with the local legendary Pokemon and restore the peace.Starting with a partner Eevee, players can add 200 species of Pokemon to their army. Each monster has a single skill to contribute to the battle, and warriors and warlords can provide one-time buffs to their Pokemon units. Players who are able to conquer the entire Ransei region will unlock an additional 16 postgame story chapters, many of which reference actual historical events. If Fire Emblem fans or Japanese history buffs have yet to experience the Pokemon franchise, Conquest serves as their introduction to the monster battler phenomenon.Release Date: March 17, 2012Genre: Unit-based tactical RPG in the vein of Fire EmblemDeveloper:The Pokemon Company, Koei Tecmo Nintendo 19. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen The first mainline Pokemon remakes ever released might seem a little barebones compared to contemporary games, but they vastly improved on the original games from 1996. Pokemon Red and Blue were revolutionary for their time, but they were incredibly flawed games. If your Pokemon was frozen there was no random chance for them to thaw out. If they were trapped by a move like Fire Spin or Bind, they couldn't do anything for the duration of the effect, and certain type match ups didn't perform the way they were supposed to.FireRed and LeafGreen fixed these issues and added more content to the already aging gen one titles. In addition to a graphical facelift, mechanics and movepools were updated to reflect their current status in gen three games like Pokemon Emerald. This made battles less frustrating, while also giving players more autonomy to build their team in interesting new directions.Pokemon Red and Blue will always be revered for kicking off the franchise, but if you want to take a look at what kicked off the pokemania, you're better off picking up FireRed and LeafGreen.Release Date: Jan. 29, 2004Genre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 18. Pokemon Sword and Shield The first mainline Pokemon games to release on the Switch were a little rough around the edges and deeply embroiled in controversy (anyone remember Dexit?). Even so, Sword and Shield introduced novel mechanics and made building competitive teams simpler than ever before. The Galar region's Wild Area was a great way to connect disparate locations in a simple badge-hunting adventure, making Pokemon encounters feel more natural in the overworld.Dynamaxing may not have been as popular as Mega Pokemon, but it was the next best thing. Getting a power boost for only a few turns in battle added a new layer of strategy to competitive play, because it forced players to think about not just which Pokemon they wanted to Dynamax, but when they wanted to Dynamax their Pokemon. The Battle Tower wasn't an extensive amount of postgame content, but it allowed players to earn items to change natures, reset EVs and max out IVs on members of their team.Generation eight was perhaps the first time online battling with perfect Pokemon became accessible to more casual players without hacked Pokemon, and that's enough to make Sword and Shield stand out.Release Date: Nov. 15, 2019Genre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 17. Pokemon Colosseum Pokemon Colosseum was the first game to bring epic battles to the home console market, launching on the GameCube in 2003. The player is tasked with battling to the top of the ladder in the Orre region -- a difficult task, considering the arid desert landscape prevents the main character from encountering any Pokemon in the wild. It's up to you to snag new Pokemon from other trainers, piecing together a team through victory in battle. While Pokemon Colosseum featured a smaller roster of pocket monsters than other mainline titles, it renewed interest in double battles and introduced shadow Pokemon for the first time. The villainous Team Cipher abused these corrupted pocket monsters, which made snagging and purifying each partner Pokemon feel more important.Perhaps most importantly, Pokemon Colosseum laid the groundwork for Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, making it one of the most important stepping stones in the franchise's history.Release Date: Nov. 21, 2003Genre: Evolution of Pokemon Stadium combining straightforward double battling with a novel redemption storyDeveloper:Genius Sonority Nintendo 16. Pokemon Rumble One of the simplest Pokemon games, Pokemon Rumble is a cathartic, family-friendly beat 'em up where tiny toy Pokemon battle by slamming into each other to exert dominance. The original 151 generation one Pokemon appear in hordes to battle through, dropping coins that let players purchase new companions or change their moveset. The addictive repetition of the gameplay loop is akin to a dungeon crawler like Diablo, but its complexity is pared down enough that a child could understand.Once players smack around enough fodder and level up their Pokemon, they get to enter the Battle Royale. Here, they need to take on dozens of Pokemon at once in an enclosed room to rank up and earn the chance to take on tougher foes. Eventually, even legendary Pokemon can show up in the scuffles. Pokemon Rumble certainly isn't for intensive teambuilding strategists, but it's a Pokemon battler that's good fun for fans of any age.Release Date: June 16, 2009Genre: Simple arcade-y beat 'em upDeveloper:Ambrella Nintendo 15. Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia The Pokemon Ranger series took full advantage of the DS's hardware to create a novel way to step into the role of some of the most important everyday heroes in the Pokemon world. Rarely were the touchscreen and stylus the main gameplay focus of a Pokemon game, but they were necessary peripherals to draw loops around wild monsters to recruit them to your cause in Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.Throughout the region of Almia, the villainous Team Dim Sun is using new technology to bend Pokemon to their will, and only the Pokemon Rangers have the power to break the shackles placed on their minds. It's up to the player to ascend the ranks of the Pokemon Rangers, and stop the nefarious plot to enslave every Pokemon in Almia.Shadows of Almia vastly improves on its predecessor, allowing players to take on different partner Pokemon and upgrade their stylers, creating new gameplay styles and strategies. There are also 270 new Pokemon included in this version of Pokemon Ranger, creating hundreds of new situations for players attempting to tame out-of-control monsters. If you're wondering how normal people keep the peace in the Pokemon universe, Shadows of Almia is the action-adventure game that answers your questions.Release Date: March 20, 2008Genre: Action-adventure with unique Pokemon-world interactionsDeveloper:Creatures Inc. Nintendo 14. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness This sequel to Pokemon Colosseum takes the concept of shadow Pokemon and runs wild, introducing the now-iconic shadow Lugia as a tool of the main antagonist. Taking place five years after the original game, the Orre region is now a more civilized place (though Team Cipher is still on the loose and causing havoc). There are 83 shadow Pokemon to collect, purify and use in battle, which gives Gale of Darkness players more flexibility with their team composition. Most importantly, the game ironed out many of the flaws present in Pokemon Colosseum. Players can now purify up to nine Pokemon at a time, making the critical mechanic less of a slog to engage with. Despite this, shadow Pokemon attacks also became super effective against non-shadow Pokemon opponents, so there was still tactical value for players to keep some of their Pokemon unpurified. Gale of Darkness added more depth to battles in one of the toughest Pokemon games.Players had to carefully consider their decisions in each double battle if they wanted to succeed, especially against overwhelming forces like Lugia. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness still holds up as a challenging title when compared to more contemporary mainline games.Release Date: Aug. 4, 2005Genre: 3D action-adventure RPG with an emphasis on double battlesDeveloper:Genius Sonority Nintendo 13. Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire The most feature-complete version of Pokemon Pinball added the novel thrill of catching 'em all to an arcade classic. With two machines themed to emulate the feel of the generation three games, Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire encouraged players to complete a massive Pokedex as they shot for a high score.Special features across the board unlock Pokeball returns, a Pokemart opening and Pokemon-catching minigames that spawn pocket monsters from the third-generation games. Skilled players can activate special timed maps where they'll have a chance to catch rare Pokemon like Dusclops or legendary Pokemon like Groudon and Kyogre. Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire is an alternative arcade solution to catching 'em all, and its addictive gameplay loop will have players returning even after they complete the Pokedex.Release Date: Aug. 1, 2003Genre: Arcade pinball with a Pokemon twistDeveloper:Jupiter Corporation Nintendo 12. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX A faithful remake of the game that kicked off the Mystery Dungeon series, Rescue Team DX serves as a reminder of just how fun Pokemon's other turn-based games are. This game laid the groundwork for the formula that Explorers of Sky perfected, establishing the human-turned-Pokemon narrative concept and tying it to simple but addictive dungeon-crawling gameplay. It's up to the player and their partner to prevent a series of escalating natural disasters from destroying the world, putting together an elite squad to deliver aid inside of dungeons.Rescue Team DX replicates the original beat-by-beat but elevates the experience with a beautiful new art style. Pokemon and landscapes are rendered in pastel watercolors, making the world feel like a painting come to life. This game is a fantastic entry point to the series, but it also gives veteran Mystery Dungeon players a reason to keep returning for more.Release Date: March 6, 2020Genre: Turn-based roguelike dungeon delve RPGDeveloper:Spike Chunsoft Nintendo 11. New Pokemon Snap Following in the footsteps of one of the original Pokemon games on the Nintendo 64, New Pokemon Snap revives the on-rails pocket monster photography series for the Switch. While the original Pokemon Snap included 63 generation one Pokemon, the sequel includes 234 different Pokemon pulled from various mainline games. The gameplay is smoother, there are more ways to interact with wild Pokemon and photography is more reliable in New Pokemon Snap.In addition to being a solid dose of nostalgia for Pokemon oldheads, the game embodies the spirit of older titles. There are tons of secret interactions throughout the different courses that spawn new Pokemon to photograph. New Pokemon Snap becomes a sort of logic puzzle where players experiment with using different items on new Pokemon to discover cute animated interactions. If you like the idea of experiencing Pokemon behavior in their natural habitats -- and not the aimless milling around of overworld spawns in games like Sword and Shield -- then New Pokemon Snap is the game for you.Release Date: April 30, 2021Genre: On-rails photography game with deep environmental interactivityDeveloper:Bandai Namco Studios Nintendo 10. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Improving upon the generation seven games Pokemon Sun and Moon, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon add some sci-fi flair to the sunny Alola region. Though the narrative largely follows the island challenges established in the preceding games, dimensional shenanigans start to unleash strange Ultra Beasts as the story progresses. The player encounters multiple new Pokemon, including the legendary Necrozma, on their quest to beat the new Alolan Elite Four.By the time the player reaches the postgame, a dimensional displacement drags people and Pokemon out of their proper realities. That's the cue for epic nostalgia bait, as Team Rainbow Rocket forms under Giovanni, Cyrus, Archie, Maxie and Ghetsis -- villains from past games -- to threaten the Alola region. Defeating them unlocks the Ultra Wormholes and the ability to find Pokemon from other dimensions, which is a wacky and fun mechanic for the game to culminate with. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon don't add quite as many new mechanics as other games and don't do anything new with Z-Moves, but mixing a Hawaiian vacation with science-fiction escapades makes for a solid set of Pokemon games.Release Date: Nov. 17, 2017Genre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 9. Pokemon X and Y As the first mainline games to make the jump to 3D graphics from pixel art sprites, Pokemon X and Y are lauded for their contributions to modernizing the franchise. As players explore the Kalos region, they discover the secrets of Mega evolution and run up against the evil Team Flare. The team's leader, Lysandre, aims to use an ancient weapon capable of destroying all life to strong-arm the region into submission. It's up to the protagonist to wield the power of Yveltal and Xerneas to put a stop to his evil plans.Pokemon X and Y introduced some of the best changes in modern Pokemon. Mega evolutions give new, inspired designs to older Pokemon -- and sometimes make them competitively viable where they previously weren't. The fairy-type is also an important counter to dragon-type Pokemon, which had few weaknesses across the type chart before generation six.The following generations tried to replicate the success of X and Y with Z-Moves, Dynamaxing and Terastallization, but none of these mechanics carried games the way Mega evolution did.Release Date: Oct. 12, 2013Genre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 8. Pokemon Go Forget experiencing the Pokemon world through video games -- in 2016, we finally got a chance to catch our favorite pocket monsters in real life (well, in alternate reality, which is the closest approximation there is).Pokemon Go was an instant hit, ushering in a brilliant summer in which it seemed everyone just wanted to discover virtual creatures together. People were mobbing Central Park for rare spawns, reporters were sneaking a peak at the game during White House press briefings and Hillary Clinton made a disastrous bid to get the youth to "Pokemon Go to the polls."Niantic's biggest game might not be at the peak of its cultural relevance anymore, but Pokemon Go is more feature-complete than ever before. Players can catch wild Pokemon from generations one to nine, participate in cooperative raids to catch legendaries and mythicals, fight for dominance over gyms, and battle the nefarious Team Go Rocket. There's a whole world out there to discover with your partner Pokemon.Release Date: July 6, 2016Genre: Real world AR Pokemon collectorDeveloper:Niantic Nintendo 7. Pokemon Legends: Arceus The first truly open world Pokemon game, Legends: Arceus, finally conveyed the awe and terror of life in a wild, untamed world with such powerful monsters. Players are integrated into the Galactic Expedition Team's Survey Corps in Hisui, an ancient version of the Sinnoh region. It's up to you to complete one of the first versions of the Pokedex, gather information about new Pokemon and try to figure out what has made them angry enough to rampage across the land.Legends: Arceus demands ingenuity and quick thinking from players chasing dangerous Alpha Pokemon, as these monsters move quickly and won't think twice about cutting you down. There are multiple approaches to battle outside of releasing your own Pokemon to fight, and you can sometimes avoid fighting altogether through light stealth gameplay. Pokemon Legends: Arceus feels like the first adventure highlighting more realistic wild Pokemon behavior, and the perilous Hisui region feels more alive than most other mainline game locales.Release Date: Jan 28, 2022Genre: Open world survival game with Pokemon creature collection and battlingDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo

It also keeps me much cooler throughout the nighta huge plus for anyone who gets hot while sleeping. Overall, I get a better nights sleep on a more consistent basis since I switched mattresses.Would you recommend it to other side sleepers? Absolutely, its a very high-quality mattress and a terrific option, not just for side sleepers. How did delivery and setup go? The delivery process was extremely easy. Medium firm. How comfortable is it? 8.8/10As a side sleeper, what attracted you to this mattress? As a side sleeper, I liked how my body conformed to the Nectar mattress. It felt like my body weight sunk into the mattress at just the right level of comfort. What do you love about this mattress? I love how sleeping and sitting up in bed to read are both comfortable experiences in this mattress. It has great support in all areas, meaning that sitting up near the head of the bed to read before sleeping was also very comfortable. Whats more, I love the cover on the top of the mattress. It not only feels breathable to the touch, but with its quilted poly-blend technology, it also cools me down at night when I sleep. If you could change anything, what would it be? At this competitive price point, I wouldnt change much of anything. How does this mattress compare to others youve slept on? It is certainly one of the best mattresses Ive ever slept on. I think an overlooked element of any mattress is its sturdiness: Too many people tend to focus on the initial feeling of laying in bed, but over time, the sturdiness of the mattress is almost as important. And this one certainly has that element.Would you recommend it to other side sleepers? Yes, absolutely. It is among the most comfortable mattresses Ive slept on, and probably half the price of other similar sleep quality experiences. How did delivery and setup go? Very easy delivery and setup. It was sent in the mail in a box. I had to unpack the plastic around the mattress, allow the mattress to air out for 48 hours, and then it was good to go. This mattress is two-sided, and I sleep on the firm side. It is firm enough for my perfect alignment but still feels soft enough to be cozy. How comfortable is it? 10/10As a side sleeper, what attracted you to this mattress? The flippable option. Softer mattresses can shape better to a side sleeper, but firm mattresses are more aligned if constructed well. I figured between both sides I would find the most comfortable and supportive side. So far, it is the firm side.

Eufys advanced cleaner is one of our favorites with its 3D mapping technology to help the vacuum avoid clashing with furniture during its route. It also works wonders as a vacuum and a mop, as Williams notes that it can pick up to two months worth of dirt and debris and clean without sloshing and smearing water on the floor. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it has one of the most contemporary designs youll find in a vacuum.HomeAmazonNashia BakerCoway Airmega AP-1512HH(W) True HEPA PurifierWhether youre battling allergies or just want to keep your air as fresh as possible, there are plenty of air purifiers we love that youll also want to keep on displayincluding Coways Airmega model. The overall design of this air purifier is a big standout for modern spaces, says Baker. Since this is a slightly bigger home appliance (larger than a standard space heater but much smaller than an HVAC), I didnt want it to be an eyesore in my space. I have it in the white colorway, but you can shop it in the black too. It doesnt skimp on cleaning power, either. Baker notes that its quality is second to none in her space, as she gives it props for its four-step filtration process, three powerful speeds, and auto-detect sensors to thoroughly clean the air in any given moment.DysonRachel FletcherRachel FletcherDyson Purifier Humidify+Cool FormaldehydeTheres more than meets the eye with this state-of-the-art Dyson device. While it has a steep price tag, commerce director Rachel Fletcher notes that its a worthwhile investment because of its three-in-one capabilities: Its rare to find a machine that can purify your air, humidify it, and cool down a space all in oneso I was impressed right off the bat, she says. An update to earlier Dyson models, this machine does all that and aside from getting rid of the usual particles, it also removes formaldehyde (which can cause even more irritation to your eyes and throat) from the air.EntertainmentSamsung 65-Inch Class QLED 4K LS03D The Frame TVWhether youre a regular at The Met or MoMA, you can welcome artwork in your home from the likes of Salvador Dali and Basquiat with the click of a remote control. The Frame TV is of the cutting-edge in the tech world with its anti-reflection screen, art mode that displays paintings, and slim wall mount that allows it to hang like a piece of art. Its also beloved by many designers: DC-based interior designer Imani Keal says its a great option if you love watching TV but want to disguise it when its not in use. Most of us watch TV and build our living rooms around that activity, she adds. Theres nothing wrong with that. It makes me cringe to watch people build a home to convey an aesthetic that isnt real.Hisense 65-Inch Class QLED 4K S7N CanvasTVA favorite in our Amazon gift guides and another smart TV to choose from, this one also has an art mode that will turn you from a TV watcher to an art collector in an instant. Its matte display keeps the screen glare-free to resemble the texture of high-end paintings. While this one only comes in two sizes (55-inch and 65-inch), one big difference between the Canvas and Frame TV is that this pulls from the devices collection and doesnt require a subscription to display art.

  • Rumour: Switch 2 3D Dock Mock-Up Surfaces Online
    www.nintendolife.com
Image: NintendoSwitch 2 rumours have kind of slowed down since Nintendo aired the first look at the system in January, but there are still some floating about. Now, in an update, we've got a look at what's apparently a leaked model of the system's dock. While Nintendo has shown off the new system in its initial reveal trailer (along with a new set of Joy-Con controllers and their possible mouse-like capabilities), the dock remains a little more mysterious. There have been some supposed leaks already, and now the latest look doing the rounds online is in the form of a 3D CAD model. These photos have reportedly been shared by the same leaker who posted photos of the system ahead of its official reveal last year. The 3D model on display includes a look at the dock from the front, an angled perspective from the back, a top-down view where you can see how the Switch successor connects to the unit, and the base of the unit.As website 'wccftech' notes, this 3D model appears to feature a "grid on the base of the dock" which could perhaps suggest an adjustment to the system's "cooling and air intake". As we've mentioned in our Switch 2 guide here on Nintendo Life, the HDMI port for the dock seems to be the only certainty at the moment, with the system also likely to charge using a USB-C AC adapter.Keep in mind this 3D model of the dock all stems from a supposed leak, so there's no guarantee it's necessarily the real deal and it's probably best to just treat this as a mockup for now. Nintendo's Direct broadcast for the Switch 2 will take place on 2nd April 2025, so we'll get a proper look at the system's official dock design then. What's up, Dock?A complete guide to Switch 2 - confirmed details, rumours, leak historyIt's time for Switch 2What do you make of this supposed 3D leak of the Switch 2 dock?
