The Intel Core i5-14400F processor has a turbo frequency of 4.7GHz with 10 cores and 16 threads. If you're focus is on gaming, you won't see much of an improvement upgrading to an Intel Core i7 CPU, especially at higher resolutions where gaming performance is almost always GPU bound. The CPU is cooled by a tower heatsink fan and the system is powered by a 600W 80PLUS Gold power supply. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super is a great card for gaming at any resolution, from 1080p all the way to 4K. At 1080p and 1440p you'll be able to achieve 144fps or beyond in most games, so it pairs best with FHD or QHD monitors with high refresh rates. 4K is a much more demanding resolution, but you should still be able to run most games at a consistent 60fps. Compared to the new Blackwell careds, the RTX 4070 Ti Super is significantly more powerful than the RTX 5070 and only about 10%-15% less powerful than the RTX 5070 Ti. The RTX 4070 Ti Super also has the same amount of VRAM as the RTX 5070 Ti and 5080, although it does use older generation GDDR6 instead of GDDR7.This costs hundreds less than an RTX 5070 Ti gaming PCAlthough the new RTX 5070 Ti GPU might be a bit faster, a prebuilt RTX 5070 Ti gaming PC will run you hundreds more than this deal. Right now, the least expensive gaming PC equipped with an RTX 5070 Ti GPU on Amazon runs for over $2,000, which means you're going to have to pay an extra $600+ for 10% improved performance.CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Intel Core i7-14700F RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,069.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Supreme AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,159.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Intel Core i9-14900F RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,199.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Intel Core i7-14700KF RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,209.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Supreme AMD Ryzen 9 9900X RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,229.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,259.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Supreme AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,319.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Intel Core i9-14900KF RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,319.99 at AmazonCyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR Intel Core Ultra 9 285 RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)$2,369.99 at AmazonWhy Should You Trust IGN's Deals Team?IGN's deals team has a combined 30+ years of experience finding the best discounts in gaming, tech, and just about every other category. • iPhone 17 Air: Seven new features are coming later this year
    9to5mac.com
This fall, the iPhone lineup is getting a brand new model: the iPhone 17 Air. Apple plans to drop its Plus model in favor of an iPhone with a fresh form factor that could tempt a lot of Pro users. Here are seven features coming to the iPhone 17 Air.Ultra-thin form factorApples ultra-thin M4 iPad Pro gives us an idea of what to expect from iPhone 17 AirFollowing the trend started by Apples M4 iPad Pro, the iPhone 17 Airs defining feature will be its thinness.Reports have varied around the exact measurements of the new device, but most recently, Ming-Chi Kuo wrote that its thinnest part will be just 5.5mm. Presumably, this means everything except the top camera bar. This is a massive reduction from current iPhones. The 16 Pro models are 8.25mm thick, while the base 16 and 16 Plus are 7.8mm.Apples thinnest model ever was the iPhone 6, and even that was 6.9mm.New 6.6-inch displayBeing ultra-thin wont be the 17 Airs only hardware advantage over the Pro line. Apple will also give its new model a unique display that could offer the perfect compromise between existing sizes.Apples iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. These are the same sizes as the 16 Pro line.iPhone 17 Air, however, will slot in exactly halfway between the two models with a 6.6-inch display. Thanks to its ultra-thin form factor, the 17 Airs display may still feel small enough for current Pro users while offering just enough space to satisfy Pro Max fans too.Always On and high refresh rate featuresEver since 2022, a big difference between Apples entry models and Pro line has involved two display features:the Pro models boast an Always On displaythey also support the 120Hz ProMotion high refresh rateThese are the kind of features that, once you get used to them, theyre hard to go without.Fortunately, for the first time, Always On and a version of ProMotion are expected to hit the base iPhone 17 and 17 Air.I say a version of because rumors have swirled about a possible 90Hz refresh rate display being in the works at Apple. No credible rumor has indicated this will hit the 17 Air, so its possible it will get the full 120Hz ProMotion feature. But if Apple wants to boost its iPhone displays while still retaining the best tech for the Pro models, perhaps 90Hz on the 17 and 17 Air is the way to do that.A19 chipJust like with its iPhone 16 line, Apple plans to ship two brand new chips for its iPhone 17 models. The base 17 and 17 Air will get the A19 chip, while the 17 Pro and Pro Max get an A19 Pro.How much difference will there be between chips? Probably not a lot for everyday tasks, as the A19 will still be a powerhouse for AI, gaming, and more. But the 17 Air chip will technically be a little underpowered compared to the A19 Pro.Single rear 48MP camera with bar designAs seen in the leaked image above, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to differ from its siblings substantially in the camera department. While the 17 Pro line again offers three rear cameras, and the base model two, the 17 Air will feature only one: the main 48MP Fusion camera.Rumors have been minimal around this cameras features, which could indicate it will be very similar to the existing main camera on the iPhone 16 line. Then again, its unknown what benefit the camera bar design will offer the 17 Air, so we could be in store for some surprises after all.24MP front cameraCurrently, the iPhones selfie camera is only 12MPand gets clearly inferior results to the rear cameras.Fortunately, Apple is bringing a welcome 24MP upgrade to the front camera on the iPhone 17 Air and all other iPhone 17 models. The new front camera is still unlikely to match the quality of the rear camera, but it should at least close the gap substantially.Apples in-house C1 modemFinally, theres a connectivity change coming to the iPhone 17 Air that no other 17 models will offer.Apples in-house C1 modem, which has been in the works for many years, recently debuted in the iPhone 16e and the 17 Air will get it too.iPhone 17 Air features: wrap-upThe iPhone 17 Air will no doubt be the most exciting fourth model in Apples lineup to date. Where the iPhone mini and Plus had their niche groups of loyal fans, the 17 Air stands to set the future tone for iPhone design. Its going to be a fun iPhone launch season this fall.Which iPhone 17 Air features are you most excited about? Do you plan to buy the new model? • Sustainability shift: Why New Zealands construction sector cant afford to lag behind
    architecturenow.co.nz
The inauguralArchify Sustainable Futures Report 2024surveyed over 700 industry professionals across New Zealand and Australia, revealing that while the industry is making strides, significant challenges remain. The report provides a strategic roadmap for architects, developers, and policymakers navigating the complexities of sustainable construction, highlighting both progress and ongoing barriers to meaningfulchange. Many organisations are integrating sustainability into their operations, with over half employing specialists to oversee project sustainability and a similar proportion focusing on the impact of their organisation, such as reducing their carbonfootprint. However, nearly half have yet to take such steps. While 69% have set carbon reduction targets, 64% measure their footprint and 60% engage in offsetting carbon emissions, gaps remain in carbon accounting, as some companies reduce emissions through renewable energy adoption without formally tracking theirimpact.Sustainability: A priority with persistentbarriersSustainability is widely recognised as crucial, with environmental considerations ranking as the most important among respondents. While 90% of professionals acknowledge its importance, only a fraction report consistently achieving sustainable outcomes onprojects. One of the most significant barriers is cost, cited by 54% of respondents. Other challenges include a lack of client demand, the complexity of sustainability processes and insufficient government regulations. These findings align with industry discussions on embedding sustainability into standard practice rather than treating it as an optionalextra.Climate change is arguably the most critical issue of our time. While progress is underway, it is slower than needed and reversing the trend of rising temperatures will take considerable time, Dr. Lee Jones, Head of Sustainability at Hubexo, said.Jones continues, Globally, the built environment is responsible for around 40% of all global carbon emissions. In Australia and New Zealand, the construction sector emits around 20% of regional carbon emissions thats 98 million tonnes of carbon apportioned solely to construction in ANZ, the same as 0.3 billion flights between Sydney and Auckland. We must do more to reduce ourimpact.Image: SuppliedArchitects, as key decision-makers in project design, are pivotal in advancing sustainability. While clients and financiers are perceived to have the greatest influence over project sustainability, architects and consultants are uniquely positioned to educate stakeholders on the long-term benefits of sustainabledesign. However, sustainable features are frequently removed during value engineering. To combat this, stronger prescriptive specifications and enhanced client education are essential to ensuring that sustainability remains integral rather than anafterthought. The growing focus on embodiedcarbonWhile operational carbon reduction has long been a focus, the report signals a growing awareness of embodied carbon. Despite this, it remains underrepresented in regulations and sustainability requirements. A lack of accessible supplier data further complicates efforts to source reliable information on productsustainability.Encouragingly, 76% of respondents agree that more manufacturers need to provide sustainability performance information to bridge this gap, reinforcing the critical role of material transparency in advancing sustainabilitygoals.David Baggs, CEO, Technical Director & Co-founder of Global GreenTag International.Though we have a long journey ahead of us, achieving a sustainable future depends on a widespread commitment to high-integrity practices that foster resilience, reduce emissions and genuinely support both people and the planet, said David Baggs, CEO, Technical Director & Co-founder of Global GreenTag International. The report identifies a strong expectation for more robust government intervention, with 71% of respondents calling for increased support to transition existing buildings and infrastructure to netzero. As one respondent noted, There needs to be accountability for achieving sustainability standards through government-mandated legislation. Too often, there are ambitious sustainability goals that are never met because there are no consequences for not meetingthem.Although half of respondents believe government policies are moving in the right direction, many feel that current measures lack the urgency and enforcement needed for large-scale industry transformation. The sentiment reflects a growing recognition that sustainability cannot be left solely to market forces and requires regulatorybacking.Moving toward a sustainablefutureThe report underscores the necessity of a collective approach to sustainability. While architects and designers continue to lead by integrating sustainable principles into their work, overcoming financial and regulatory barriers will be key to long-termsuccess.While awareness of sustainability is increasing within the industry, translating this recognition into consistent, tangible outcomes remains a challenge. Overcoming barriers such as cost pressures and client demand will require a shift in mindset one that prioritises long-term environmental and economic benefits over short-termsavings.As one respondent noted, Clients need to buy into the economic advantages of constructing and operating sustainablebuildings.Stronger policy frameworks, early integration of sustainability in project planning and more prescriptive specifications could help embed sustainable practices as standard rather thanexception.Want to learn more about the current state of sustainability in the New Zealand constructionindustry? This content has been created with supportfromArchify.ArchitectureNow works with a range of partners in the A&D supply sector to create and/or source appropriate content for this website andArchitecture NZmagazine. If your brand or clients are interested in similar creative content emailmark.lipman@agm.co.nztoenquire.

  • 4 Ways Staying Active Helps You Age Healthier -- And How to Get Started
    www.cnet.com
Aging is a natural part of life, and it brings changes that affect both physical and mental health. While staying active in your 50s and beyond may seem daunting, regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to keep yourself healthy as you age. Just a little movement each day can make a big difference, strengthening muscles and bones, sharpening cognitive function, boosting the immune system, and even increasing longevity. The best part? No matter when you start, you can still reap the benefits. Here's how fitness can help you stay strong, healthy, and thriving as you age. Stronger muscles and bonesFrom lifting groceries to climbing stairs, there are a lot of activities that rely on strong bones and muscles. Aging typically leads to loss of muscle mass and bone density, often making it difficult for individuals to maintain an active and independent lifestyle. Engaging in regular exercise can help prevent these common side effects of aging, making it easier to take care of yourself in old age while reducing the risk of injuries like falls.Time reported that resistance training is one of the most effective methods for mitigating -- or even reversing -- age-related muscle decline, as it builds and preserves muscle strength and power essential for tasks. Researchers have found benefits even in patients in their late 80s who use mobility devices such as canes. And when it comes to your bones, weight-bearing exercises encourage maintenance of bone density, prevent osteoporosis and lower your risk of fractures, per Harvard Health. Any physical activity that requires your bones to support your weight counts as a weight-bearing exercise, including walking or strength training.Healthier brainA healthy brain is fundamental to daily life. Basic tasks like brushing your teeth and washing your hands, as well as complex activities such as driving and decision-making, require a well-functioning brain.Aging affects memory, attention, thinking and other types of cognitive function, which is known as age-related cognitive decline. Exercise emerges as a powerful ally against this decline, reducing the risk of diseases like Alzheimer's and enhancing cognitive function. The National Council on Aging reports that brain aging can be slowed by 10 years with intense or moderate exercise. adamkaz/Getty ImagesMore robust immune systemThe immune system safeguards the body from harmful invaders such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. Using a network of cells, tissues and organs, it recognizes and eliminates these threats. This maintains a balance for overall health and protection.Your immune system is expected to decline as you age, making the body more susceptible to infections and reducing the effectiveness of vaccinations. This is where exercise can help.A University of Birmingham study compared the immune systems of a group of cyclists aged 57 to 80 to the immune systems of younger individuals and found that the cyclists' immune systems didn't exhibit signs of aging. Their thymuses produced T cells (which defend against illness) at a rate comparable to younger individuals, indicating a more robust immune system. This is consistent with previous research.Longer lifePhysical activity lowers the likelihood of various illnesses like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer -- which are some of the most common causes of death in the US. Engaging in physical activity is an effective preventative measure to reduce your risk of these conditions, some of which also become more common with age.Studies consistently indicate that regular exercise reduces overall mortality and extends lifespan, including a large research study by the American Heart Association that found that individuals who exercise between two and four times the recommended amount have the lowest risk of mortality. However, those who worked out less (meeting the guidelines rather than exceeding them) also had lower mortality rates.Another thing to consider is the length of your telomeres, which are the caps on DNA strands that shorten with time and are a marker of biological age. Research from Brigham Young University showed that being "highly active" is associated with longer telomeres, with a nine-year reduction in biological age in highly active people compared to sedentary people. Maskot/Getty ImagesIt's never too late to startDon't let your age stop you from prioritizing fitness. Even if you start today, getting active can significantly improve your health, both in the present and as you continue to age.If you're 65 or older, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity, along with two days of muscle-strengthening activities and some balancing activities. But any level of activity is better than none. A safe place to start if you're a beginner is by taking a short brisk walk daily.Keep in mind you want to tailor your workout routine to your current ability level. And if you have an existing condition like arthritis or high blood pressure that could impact your ability to exercise, consult with your doctor to find a routine that works for you.Other keys to healthy agingExercise plays a vital role in healthy aging. However, there are many things beyond exercise that influence how we age. If you want to ensure healthy aging, consider what changes can be made to your lifestyle and habits. For example, the National Institute on Aging suggests you avoid smoking or heavy drinking, maintain a well-rounded and nutritious diet, get adequate sleep and foster meaningful relationships with friends and family.

Tesla Cybertruck tow hitch stress test reveals potential design flaws. The cast aluminum to which the tow hitch is attached to is just 3/16 inches thick. With a very high tongue weight, the whole rear section of the EV snapped off.You might remember last years Jackass-style WhistlinDiesel video where he put a Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 through a bunch of grueling stress tests. The main takeaway of that video was that the Cybertrucks tow hitchtogether with a consistent chunk of the cast aluminum framewas ripped apart, raising questions about the electric trucks ability to tow the rated 11,000 pounds safely. Meanwhile, the gas-powered F-150 with a steel frame still had its tow hitch in place at the end of it all. Some pointed out that the rear part of the frame might have broken when the tow hitch hit a big block of concrete and then sheared off while towing. The problem is that there was no way of knowing for sure. But there is now. Another YouTuber, Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything fame, put his own Cybertruck through a slightly more scientific test to see how the hitch fares in extreme conditions. To quickly recap, Teslas electric pickup is rated to tow up to 11,000 pounds (4,990 kilograms). Meanwhile, the maximum tongue weightthats how much mass sits directly on the tow hitchis capped at 1,100 lbs (499 kg). The tow hitch is attached to a cast aluminum frame. More Cybertruck Stuff

  • Google has given Anthropic more funding than previously known, show new filings
    techcrunch.com
In BriefPosted:6:21 PM PDT March 11, 2025Image Credits:Getty ImagesGoogle has given Anthropic more funding than previously known, show new filingsAnthropic, a San Francisco startup often cast as an independent player in the AI race, has deeper ties to Google than previously known. Court documents recently obtained by The New York Times reveal that Google owns a 14% stake in the company and is set to pour another $750 million into it this year through a convertible debt deal. In total, Googles investment in Anthropic now exceeds $3 billion.Despite having no voting rights, board seats, or direct control over the company, Googles backing raises questions about how independent Anthropic really is. As AI startups increasingly rely on funding from tech giants, regulators have scrutinized whether these deals give incumbents an unfair advantage, though the Justice Department just dropped a proposal that would have forced the sale of some of those stakes.Google, which is developing its own tech while quietly funding competitors, is clearly hedging its bets. Meanwhile, with Amazon also funneling money into Anthropic it has agreed to invest up to $8 billion so far in the outfit its natural to wonder what such ties mean for Anthropic and other big AI startups. Are they still mavericks or becoming extensions of Big Tech?Above: Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei speaking at Viva Technology in Paris.TopicsAI, Anthropic, Google
