Refrigerator concept uses traditional Korean furniture as design inspiration

When you walk into a kitchen, the first thing youll probably see is the refrigerator. Aside from the fact that its a staple in almost every kitchen, its easy to spot it since the design is pretty much design. Once you see it, you automatically know its a fridge. But what if you have one that uses a different kind of design principle, one that uses traditional design while creating a modern appliance? It might cause a bit of confusion but its a pretty interesting idea. Designer: mmm design studioThats the idea behind BeUT, a concept for a classical electric refrigerator. Its name literally means Be Usual Treasure since probably the food inside the fridge is considered our treasure. But beut is also an old Korean name for the kitchen or more appropriately, the cooking space. (Its also apparently the name of a popular Korean restaurant in New York City that serves traditional royal court dishes, but thats not exactly connected to this). The use of the traditional name for a modern appliance is not just to be cool but is connected to the design. Instead of the mechanical and industrial look of most refrigerators, this uses the decorative elements from traditional Korean furniture. The design looks more like a cabinet with four doors. This configuration could allow for specialized storage compartments, such as a dedicated section for produce, a temperature-controlled zone for meats, or a wine cooler. The top right door has a window design that we see in some of the traditional furniture. But its actually a showcase that you can turn on or off if you want to have a peek into whats inside your fridge. The brightness can also be adjusted and can be used as a soft light for your kitchen at night. The upper left quadrant also has an LED display that shows you the various controls like temperature, defrosting, UV on/off, etc. It seems to be touch activated so youll only see the display once you touch it. Otherwise, it just looks like a normal cabinet, I mean fridge, door. Its an interesting design for a refrigerator as it melds traditional and modern elements, although it might cause confusion for some. The BeUT refrigerator concept is more than just a visually appealing appliance; its a thoughtful exploration of cultural heritage and contemporary living. By drawing inspiration from traditional Korean furniture, the designer has reimagined a ubiquitous kitchen item, transforming it into a statement piece that blends seamlessly with both classic and modern interiors. The post Refrigerator concept uses traditional Korean furniture as design inspiration first appeared on Yanko Design.
