On top of being the upgraded version of the Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2 might be the best way to experience some of the previous generation’s most critically acclaimed titles. Both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom already stole our hearts with their scale, presentation, and gameplay when they were released in 2017 and 2023, respectively. Whether it’s your first time playing or your 50th, the Switch 2 editions of these titles are an absolute dream experience. Nintendo’s modern masterpieces didn’t suffer despite relatively low resolution and frame rates and slow loading times — one of the most common gripes with the games when they were released. But the Switch 2 Edition of each game feels like the upgrade the titles deserve, especially when it comes to reduced loading times. And I mean significantly reduced. During our testing, we ran five different test cases five times, then calculated an average for each of the five trials. For the original versions of the games, we used a Switch OLED. For the Switch 2 editions of the games, we used a Switch 2. We tested the time it takes to boot up the game from the Switch 2 home screen, a load a save file from the title screen, reload a save file, fast travel across the map, and enter a shrine. I picked these test cases because they are actions you repeat many times in a given play session, and those load times add up. The Switch 2 takes the load times of both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and cuts them roughly in half. In some cases, the load time has been reduced by more than half, specifically in Tears of the Kingdom. Overall, Tears of the Kingdom saw bigger performance increases on average compared to Breath of the Wild, probably because the game is just better optimized. The Nintendo Switch 2, paired with the Switch 2 Edition of each title, offers a significant improvement to the modern Zelda experience. You can also play the original versions on Switch 2, in theory, though we have yet to test those load times. Nonetheless, the Switch 2 editions feel more fluid and responsive. If you have yet to lose yourself in the most recent iteration of Hyrule Kingdom, there’s no better time than now — that is, if you’re willing to pay the extra $10 per game, or for a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion membership, to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition, which is only available on Switch 2.

Game Science’s long-awaited Xbox Series X/S version of Black Myth: Wukong finally has a release date. It’s launching on August 20th, with pre-orders starting on June 18th at midnight (Beijing Time) at a 20 percent discount. Those who have yet to experience the action RPG on PS5 or PC can avail of its first-ever sale. It runs from June 18th to July 3rd on the PlayStation Store and June 20th to July 11th on Steam and the Epic Games Store, offering the same 20 percent discount. Black Myth: Wukong launched last August and received extensive critical acclaim, including a nomination at The Game Awards 2024 for Game of the Year (it would win Best Action Game and Player Choice). It sold a whopping 18 million units in two weeks and reportedly crossed 25 million as of last February. An expansion is in the works. The Xbox Series X/S version faced its share of delays, with rumors varying between technical issues and an exclusivity deal with PlayStation. While Sony never confirmed this, it did provide “tons of support” to the developer. Game Science’s studio founder also criticized the Series S’s RAM limitations.

Reddit is accusing Anthropic of building its Claude AI models on the back of Reddit’s users, without permission and without paying for it.Anyone who uses Reddit, even a web-crawling bot, agrees to the site’s user agreement. That agreement is clear: you cannot just take content from the site and use it for your own commercial products without a written deal. Reddit claims Anthropic’s bots have been doing exactly that for years, scraping massive amounts of conversations and posts to train and improve Claude.What makes this lawsuit particularly spicy is the way it goes after Anthropic’s reputation. Anthropic has worked hard to brand itself as the ethical, trustworthy AI company, the “white knight” of the industry. The lawsuit, however, calls these claims nothing more than “empty marketing gimmicks”.For instance, Reddit points to a statement from July 2024 where Anthropic claimed it had stopped its bots from crawling Reddit. The lawsuit says this was “false”, alleging that its logs caught Anthropic’s bots trying to access the site more than one hundred thousand times in the following months.But this isn’t just about corporate squabbles; it directly involves user privacy. When you delete a post or a comment on Reddit, you expect it to be gone. Reddit has official licensing deals with other big AI players like Google and OpenAI, and these deals include technical measures to ensure that when a user deletes content, the AI company does too.According to Reddit’s lawsuit, Anthropic has no such deal and has refused to enter one. This means if their AI was trained on a post you later deleted, that content could still be baked into Claude’s knowledge base, effectively ignoring your choice to remove it. The lawsuit even includes a screenshot where Claude itself admits it has no real way of knowing if the Reddit data it was trained on was later deleted by a user:So, what does Reddit want? It’s not just about money, although they are asking for damages for things like increased server costs and lost licensing fees. They are asking the court for an injunction to force Anthropic to stop using any Reddit data immediately.Furthermore, Reddit wants to prohibit Anthropic from selling or licensing any product that was built using that data. That means they’re asking a judge to effectively take Claude off the market.This case forces a tough question: Does being “publicly available” on the internet mean content is free for any corporation to take and monetise?
