My name is Kaylynn, and I joined Unity as a member of the Diversity Recruiting team in 2022 as a project coordinator. My first priority was to head our conference engagements for the year. While I was initially nervous to lead such an important project, I am very happy to have done so alongside an amazing team, and am excited to share a behind-the-scenes recap of our recruiting travels.To kick off our first in-person conference of the year, members of the University Recruiting team and I headed to Washington, D.C., in September for the Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in Information Technology’s Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference. The Tapia Conference was a great experience and held true to its 2022 theme, “A Time to Celebrate!” Attendees included undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and professionals in computing from all backgrounds and ethnicities. This was my first in-person recruiting event coming out of the pandemic and my first with Unity overall. I can still remember experiencing jitters before we opened our booth on the first day, but the University team brought me up to speed fast, which boosted my confidence in speaking to students about our internship programs.Looking back at my time at Tapia, my favorite memories come from the engagement opportunities – connecting with others over common backgrounds, ethnicities, disabilities, and genders. Our team really did a great job in fostering the opportunity to develop relationships with candidates that extended beyond the conference itself.At the end of September, I joined several other Unity representatives in Orlando, Florida, for the Grace Hopper Celebration. While I have been to many recruiting events before, I had never been to a conference as big as this one. In 2021, GHC virtually hosted 29,000 people, and holds the record for the world’s largest gathering of women in computing.During our time at the conference, our recruiters had a lot of early mornings and late nights but, nonetheless, it was always fun. We usually started our day at 8:00 am sharp, when we could be spotted running to the shuttle stop to make it to the convention center on time.During the day, attendees could find the smiling and welcoming faces of our team at the booth, talking to potential candidates about the business and open opportunities. The career fair closed each evening at 5:00 pm; however, because we had so many candidates who wanted to speak with us, we would usually stay for an extra 30–45 minutes. Other conference events included participating in onsite internship interviews led by our University team or volunteers from across Unity. Having volunteers available allowed us to carry out all interviews and, later, make some internship offers.Although GHC was full of long days and nights, it was one of my favorite conference engagements because of the talent and drive evident in the room. It was rewarding to connect with so many candidates who were really excited to talk about Unity and eager to show us the projects they have built or are working on with our software.A second reason I enjoyed GHC was due to it being my first chance to meet all my wonderful teammates in person. These days, since we primarily meet and chat virtually, it was nice to see each other in person. The conference gave us the chance to spend five days working together and getting to know one another.In November, my team, our inclusion partners, and ComUnidad – the Latinx Employee Resource Group– members packed our bags and headed to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the annual get-together of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. At the SHPE 2022 National Convention, we met hundreds of candidates from the Latinx community and created relationships with these prospective candidates for upcoming programs.With more than 13,000 students and professionals attending the event, we spoke to many aspiring engineers from different specialties. At the time, I was unaware that there were so many different types of engineering. Other than meeting so many talented engineers, networking, and giving out cool swag at the booth, our team also participated in onsite interviews, which – much like the other events – allowed us to speak to many candidates and, ultimately, make some internship offers.During my time at the booth, candidates shared their interests, projects, and career goals, and it was exciting to hear stories about how their persistence and hard work got them to where they are today. Seeing undergraduate and graduate students juggling finding internships at conferences on top of their busy school and home lives made me feel very proud of all those attending.A week after we wrapped up at SHPE, we headed to Austin, Texas, for Blavity Inc.’s AFROTECH Conference. AFROTECH is known for being the place for all things Black in tech and Web3, and was quite different from our other in-person engagements in 2022. This was because we were not only there to recruit, but we also participated in two additional conference activations: hosting a learning lab and an event in our Austin office.On the Monday, we started with a career fair, which included several team members from Recruiting and B-United – the Black ERG – helping out at the booth. We spent three days speaking to both internship candidates and advanced professionals and tech entrepreneurs.On the second day, Unity hosted a learning lab that showcased our real-time 3D capabilities. As part of the lab, an expert panel featured Unity’s Raymond Graham, Krystal Cooper, and Nick Straughn. Over 300 attendees packed the workshop to engage with our experts and learn more about the panelists’ respective career journeys.On the final day, we wrapped up our AFROTECH activations with an in-office Unity @ AFROTECH event. Unity for Humanity grantee Black Terminus AR joined us, and its founder Damien McDuffie wowed the crowd with an interactive VR exhibit. The in-office event was one of my favorite parts of this conference because it gave such a personal touch to the week. As a company, we were able to connect with candidates and creators on a more intimate level in our cool workspace.Throughout 2022, our team attended and represented Unity at seven virtual or in-person diversity recruiting engagements. In addition to the conferences I shared above, we participated in the National Society of Black Engineers’ annual convention, Latinx in Gaming’s CONEXION, and three QueerTech activations.During my time as a coordinator on some of these projects, I traveled to places I’d never been before, worked with amazing team members, and met candidates with great passion for technology and Unity.While our diversity recruiting approach at Unity includes many additional strategies to build relationships with candidates traditionally underrepresented in tech, I really enjoyed being able to create sustainable relationships with candidates face-to-face during my first year on the team.As we know, it is hard to be what you can’t see. At Unity, this means that showing up to events like these, with representation as a focus, helps us connect with candidates we might never have had the chance to get to know. Epic Games, l’éditeur de Fornite, va même plus loin : ce Dark Vador ne se contente pas de répéter des phrases préécrites, il élabore en direct des réponses à ses interlocuteurs grâce à Gemini, l’IA conversationnelle de Google. Naturellement, les joueurs ont aussitôt tenté de faire dérailler ce Dark Vador dopé à l’IA. Avec un relatif succès. La streameuse australienne Loserfruit a par exemple réussi à le faire jurer, dans une vidéo très partagée, peu conforme à l’esprit Disney, qui possède la licence Star Wars. Perhaps the most defining aspect of the Mission: Impossible movies during their Christopher McQuarrie era has been their spontaneity. Outside of a renewed emphasis on Buster Keaton-like daredevil stunt work, each Mission film since 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation has been informed by the IMF characters onscreen, led by the indefatigable Ethan Hunt, knowing the loose framework of what the job is and then figuring out all the hair-raising details as they run along. Behind the scenes, it’s been much the same for the cast and crew, who likewise discover the plot specifics and their characterizations in an environment that’s equal parts improvisation and manifest destiny. Hayley Atwell even reveals to us that it wasn’t until late into the process of making 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning that she was told her character name. And it proved to be a profoundly moving moment for the actress. Cast as the biggest addition to the franchise canon over what might be the final two Mission flicks, Dead Reckoning and this week’s hotly anticipated Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Atwell was no stranger to blockbuster work after her time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She also knows what it means to be part of an organic ensemble with a long history of working in the British theater. Nonetheless, it was a touching surprise when, well into production on this two-part finale, Atwell was informed her aloof and thieving foil to Cruise’s Hunt is called… Grace. “It was a beautiful moment because towards the end of the last movie, McQ and Tom came to christen me and christen the character, and they did it as a reveal,” Atwell remembers. “They just said, ‘We want to tell you we’ve come up with the name and the name is partly based on how we’ve seen you work and how you’ve been consistently over time, and over this filming and training period.’ And they said her name is Grace.” It is an intriguing revelation that dispels the fan theory that she was named after Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief. So to what extent would she be an all-knowing calculated femme fatale, an ingenue, a wide-eyed idiot savant, a mysterious, enigmatic vulnerable, complex person?  What version of any little thing that I did would be put together to paint the portrait of who Grace ultimately was and how she fits into the world of it? So to be given that name was particularly meaningful for me.” It’s an illuminating story and says much about what Atwell brought to Dead Reckoning, as well as the now imminent Final Reckoning. Indeed, the new movie finds Grace in a very different place than the last film, with the master pickpocket agreeing to join the IMF and Ethan at the end of Dead Reckoning. When audiences catch up with her in Final Reckoning, like everything else in the movie, she is in a state of constant flux and movement—but now as Ethan’s teammate. “She’s like ‘oh no, you’ve made me care about you!’” Atwell laughs. “The cost of that is so great! Life was a lot easier when I didn’t care and I was just out for myself.” Yet having worked on and off in the world of Mission: Impossible for nearly five years now, Atwell feels like she truly understands what it’s like being part of the team. For instance, there was a day high above the snow line in Svalbardwhere the British actress looked around her to see a sun high in the sky and dogs pulling a sled beneath her feet. Something clicked. “It’s a beast, this kind of unquantifiable, unparalleled traveling circus of an adventure where anything could happen because anything can change at the last minute,” Atwell considers. “And sothe maintenance and the training and the preparation and the drilling, I was able to do anything that happened to be asked of me on that day—whether it’s a sudden scene change or a sudden added action sequence that tried out different things that we ended up not putting in the movie, I know now what it takes and I think when we got to the Arctic, there was a sense of surrender, total surrender to the process of that, rather than figuring it out, trying to prove myself, or force anything.” There was also acceptance that when you’re on Mission, nothing ever truly ends. By her own estimate, Atwell must have wrapped The Final Reckoning 14 times over the last few years. The first couple instances were highly emotional moments, but she now smirks at how soon she’d be back in the thick of things, one way or another.  “It reminded me of when you meet up with someone and then you’re walking down the street and you say goodbye and you go your separate ways, but then you realize you’re going in the same direction so you have this awkward sense of a false goodbye,” says Atwell. Thus during her recent stint on the West End where Atwell played Shakespeare’s Beatrice opposite Tom Hiddleston’s Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, Atwell even found herself spending her one day off in a London studio in a 10-meter tank doing Final Reckoning scenes. “Every time I wrapped on Mission… they’d say ‘and that’s a wrap!’ and I’d be like, ‘I’ll see you next week! TSMC, Cadence, KLA, Siemens and Synopsys are advancing semiconductor manufacturing by adopting the NVIDIA CUDA-X and NVIDIA Blackwell platforms.   NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, NVIDIA Grace CPUs, high-speed NVIDIA NVLink fabrics and switches, and domain-specific NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries like NVIDIA cuDSS and NVIDIA cuLitho are improving computational lithography and device simulation for advanced chip manufacturing. “Our collaboration with NVIDIA represents a significant advancement in semiconductor process simulation,” said Jeff Wu, fellow and director for the technology computer-aided design division at TSMC. “The computational acceleration from CUDA-X libraries and NVIDIA Grace Blackwell will expedite process development by simulating complex manufacturing processes and device behaviors at lower cost.” NVIDIA cuLitho and Blackwell speed up lithography by up to 25x. GPU acceleration enables leading lithography providers and semiconductor manufacturers such as TSMC to predict and correct lithography issues before production at an unprecedented speed.   Earlier this month, electronic design automationsoftware and services provider Cadence announced its Millennium M2000 platform, built exclusively on NVIDIA Blackwell for the EDA market. The M2000 is a scalable turnkey solution for deploying NVIDIA Grace Blackwell and CUDA-X libraries with a fully accelerated portfolio of Cadence design tools. Cadence is also one of the first to adopt NVIDIA NVLink Fusion, enabling custom silicon scale-up to meet the requirements of demanding workloads for model training and agentic AI inference. By adopting NVLink Fusion, Cadence allows hyperscalers to optimize and validate across the entire design spectrum.  This month, Cadence announced the Millennium M2000 AI Supercomputer to transform silicon, system and drug design. Based on the NVIDIA Blackwell platform, options include the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system for tackling massive system-on-a-chip, 3D-IC, and subsystem implementation and signoff using Cadence Cerebrus AI Studio and Cadence multiphysics system analysis tools, as well as the new NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU for smaller chip designs and simulations. “Our collaboration with NVIDIA has always been about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in both electronic design automation and system design and analysis,” said Michael Jackson, corporate vice president and general manager of the system design and analysis group at Cadence. “The Millennium M2000 platform, built exclusively on NVIDIA Blackwell, isn’t just about faster simulation — it’s about redefining the infrastructure for AI-driven innovation, enabling what was previously impossible.”  Siemens is harnessing the parallel processing power of the NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries and the groundbreaking performance of the Grace Blackwell platform to significantly accelerate its Calibre platform.  This integration enables unprecedented speed and accuracy in critical semiconductor manufacturing steps, including optical proximity correction with nanometer precision, comprehensive physical verification, robust design for manufacturability analysis, thorough reliability verification and seamless integration and automation across the design-to-manufacturing flow. “Leveraging NVIDIA CUDA-X and Grace Blackwell in our Calibre platform enables faster, more efficient optical proximity correction without sacrificing accuracy for advanced semiconductor nodes,” said Mike Ellow, CEO of Siemens EDA. “This is especially important as chip complexity continues to grow.” Additionally, Synopsys, a leading EDA software and services provider, is using NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries and Blackwell for its EDA tools, including Synopsys PrimeSim, Proteus, S-Litho, Sentaurus Device and QuantumATK. NVIDIA is highlighting significant momentum for its new Grace CPU C1 this week at the COMPUTEX trade show in Taipei, with a strong showing of support from key original design manufacturer partners. The expanding NVIDIA Grace CPU lineup, including the powerful NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchip and the flagship Grace Blackwell platform, is delivering significant efficiency and performance gains for major enterprises tackling demanding AI workloads. As AI continues its rapid advancement, power efficiency has become a critical factor in data center design for applications ranging from large language models to complex simulations. The NVIDIA Grace architecture is directly addressing this challenge.
