Late Friday, Epic Games sent a letter to U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers accusing Apple of refusing to consider its Fortnite submission, calling it “Apple’s latest attempt to circumvent this Court’s Injunction and this Court’s authority.” As reported by Mark Gurman, Epic’s petition reads: Apple’s refusal to consider Epic’s Fortnite submission is Apple’s latest attempt to circumvent this Court’s Injunction and this Court’s authority. Epic therefore seeks an order enforcing the Injunction, finding Apple in civil contempt yet again, and requiring Apple to promptly accept any compliant Epic app, including Fortnite, for distribution on the U.S. storefront of the App Store. In the document, Epic also makes a point to mention Tim Cook’s testimony at trial, in which he said: It would be to the benefit of the users to have Fortnite back on the App Store. Epic also stresses that: Apple also expressly and repeatedly told both this Court and Epic that it would welcome Fortnite back to the App Store if Epic complied with all of Apple’s Guidelines. That is exactly what Epic did. A bit of context The request comes after Apple told Epic Games it would “not revisit” the decision to reinstate the Epic Games developer account “until after the U.S. litigation between the parties concludes”. Earlier today, Epic informed players that Apple had blocked its most recent Fortnite build, rendering the game unavailable worldwide on iOS until the ban is lifted. Apple countered the claims, stating that it merely asked Epic Sweden (the developer account handling the resubmission) to remove the U.S. storefront from the build so the game could remain live in other regions. What might come next Back in the very first hearing of this case, Judge Rogers said she was “inclined not to require Apple to allow Fortnite on the App Store”. A few months later, she denied Epic’s request for a preliminary injunction, effectively allowing Apple to continue banning the game. That matters now because Epic’s new motion asks the judge to go a step further and order Apple to green-light Fortnite anyway. To grant that, she would likely have to conclude that Apple’s continued refusal has crossed the line into contempt of court, despite her earlier statement that Apple wasn’t obligated to host the game. Epic’s request may be bolstered by Judge Rogers’ recent order demanding Apple comply with the court’s 2021 injunction. Shortly after Epic Games dropped Darth Vader, in the form of a holographic conversational AI, into Fortnite, players started figuring out how to get the Sith lord to say the worst things possible. That includes tricking Darth into saying the F-word, “edging and gooning,” and, chillingly, “Skibidi Toilets.” In response, Epic says it pushed out a hotfix for Fortnite “immediately” and said “this shouldn’t happen again.” But now that Epic has set up new boundaries for VAIder, players are seeing what else they can get the former Jedi Knight to say. One of the most prominent and widespread examples of exploiting AI’s unintelligence comes from popular Fortnite streamer LoserFruit, who is also part of Epic’s Fortnite Icon Series of skins based on real-world people. “What freaking fucking food is that Darth Vader?” LoserFruit asked in a widely circulated clip. After a brief pause, AI Darth responds, “Freaking. These players will see an in-game prompt to get parental permission,” the company said in an FAQ on the new addition to Fortnite. The company also said in a statement that players who repeatedly attempt to get Darth Vader in Fortnite to “violate our settings and instructions, he will eventually leave the squad, and the player will be unable to recruit him again in that gameplay session.” For now, enjoy — with the exception of the slurs, that is — the cat and mouse game that Epic is now forced to play with its AI-powered Darth Vader in the wild, as players toy with creative ways to get the Sith lord to say extremely dumb stuff. Update: Epic Games provided the following statement on safety measures it’s taking on Darth Vader’s addition to Fortnite: There are three layers of safety filters built-into this feature. The first layer is Gemini’s configurable safety settings, and on top of that our team built system instructions to prevent the conversational AI model from generating responses that violate our Community Rules or could be potentially harmful to our players – including hateful language or references to dangerous or illegal activities. The third layer is a final check to block responses that violate our rules.  If a player is under 13 or their country’s age of digital consent, whichever is higher, this feature is off by default and will require a parent or guardian to affirmatively turn it on. If a player is repeatedly attempting to get Darth Vader to violate our settings and instructions, he will eventually leave the squad, and the player will be unable to recruit him again in that gameplay session.  If a player believes Darth Vader in Fortnite responded in a way he shouldn’t, they can submit a bug report to Epic’s team for review.  If we become aware or receive a bug report that Darth Vader in Fortnite responded in a way he shouldn’t, we investigate it and if needed, make adjustments to avoid similar responses in the future We’ve also added a new parental control so parents can choose whether to ‘allow voice and written communication with AI Features’ across Epic’s products.

On Thursday, Business Insider (BI) reported that Spotify removed 200 podcasts advertising the sale of opioids and other drugs, but that wasn't the end of the scandal. Today, CNN revealed that it easily uncovered dozens more fake podcasts peddling drugs. Some of the podcasts may have raised a red flag for a human moderator—with titles like "My Adderall Store" or "Xtrapharma.com" and episodes titled "Order Codeine Online Safe Pharmacy Louisiana" or "Order Xanax 2 mg Online Big Deal On Christmas Season," CNN reported. But Spotify's auto-detection did not flag the fake podcasts for removal. Some of them remained up for months, CNN reported, which could create trouble for the music streamer at a time when the US government is cracking down on illegal drug sales online. "Multiple teens have died of overdoses from pills bought online," CNN noted, sparking backlash against tech companies. And Donald Trump's aggressive tariffs were specifically raised to stop deadly drugs from bombarding the US, which the president declared a national emergency. BI found that many podcast episodes featured a computerized voice and were under a minute long, while CNN noted some episodes were as short as 10 seconds. Some of them didn't contain any audio at all, BI reported. CNN noted that developments in artificial intelligence have simplified audio and voice generation, as well as the "proliferation of text-to-speech tools,"which have made it easier than ever to quickly create these phony podcasts linking out to scam websites or perhaps legitimate black markets. Neither CNN nor BI could verify if drugs could actually be purchased on the sites linked. Sometimes Spotify's content moderation seemed to work to catch these podcasts, CNN suggested. But Spotify may not be hugely motivated to hunt them all down, the director of the non-profit Tech Transparency Project, Katie Paul, told CNN. Most platforms lack accountability for user-generated content like these fake podcasts, she said, shielded by Section 230. Even if Spotify did pursue a platform-wide crackdown, Paul thinks Spotify may still struggle to stay ahead of the trend, since podcasts seemingly have a "bigger blind spot," as "voice makes it much more difficult for moderation." It's unclear how many Spotify users interacted with the fake podcasts, CNN reported. However, the podcasts were promoted in top results for searches for various prescription drugs that some users may have conducted on the platform in search of legitimate health-related podcasts. Spotify's spokesperson told Ars that all fake podcasts flagged by the outlets were removed—considered violative as either illegal or spam content—but remained vague on whether there was any risk they might pop back up. Bungie admits Marathon includes artwork used without permission "We are conducting a thorough review." The issue came to light yesterday following recent playable alpha tests of Marathon, from which an artist recognised their designs had been used. "The Marathon alpha released recently and its environments are covered with assets lifted from poster designs I made in 2017," artist Fern Hook wrote on social media. "Bungie is of course not obligated to hire me when making a game that draws overwhelmingly from the same design language i have refined for the last decade, but clearly my work was good enough to pillage for ideas and plaster all over their game without pay or attribution." Responding via its less-visible Marathon Dev Team social media account, Bungie wrote that it had "immediately investigated" Hook's claim and found that, yes, a former artist at the company had swiped the designs. "This issue was unknown by our existing art team, and we are still reviewing how this oversight occurred," Bungie wrote. "We take matters like this very seriously. We have reached out to [Hook] to discuss this issue and are committed to do right by the artist. "As a matter of policy, we do not use the work of artists without their permission," Bungie continued, stating - if it needed to be said - that the developer does not endorse plagiarism. "To prevent similar issues in the future, we are conducting a thorough review of our in-game assets, specifically those done by the former Bungie artist, and implementing stricter checks to document all artist contributions," the publisher concluded. Nobody asked for an armored Lamborghini Urus. Then again, nobody asked for a tactical fanny pack either, but here we are. Rezvani – the Californian outfit best known for giving civilian vehicles the paranoia of a Cold War bunker – looked at the Urus and said: needs more trauma. The result is the Knight, a street-legal military SUV with the fashion sense of a Bond villain and the restraint of a Michael Bay explosion reel. The original Urus is already borderline excessive. Twin-turbo V8, 657 horsepower, and a design that looks like it was sketched during a Red Bull binge. It oozes aggression in that expensive European way, like a luxury watch that could punch you. But Rezvani doesn’t do theatrical threat. It does real-world menace. So they gutted the Urus’s sleek confidence and wrapped it in a jagged, carbon-fiber skin that radiates bad intentions. You don’t just drive the Knight. You deploy it. Designer: Rezvani The body is an origami of malice. Sharp lines, sci-fi taillights, a front fascia that looks like it’s been squinting into a war zone for too long. It trades Lamborghini’s sculpted excess for something closer to dystopian utilitarianism. And the kicker? That armor isn’t just for show. We’re talking bulletproof panels, ballistic glass, steel bumpers, and optional underbody explosive protection. Which begs the question: where exactly are you going? That’s only the beginning. There’s a thermal camera. An EMP shield. Sirens, strobe lights, gas masks, magnetic deadbolts, and because Rezvani leans into the absurd, electrified door handles. Touch them uninvited and you’ll get a shock strong enough to make a Tesla cry. All for extra charge, obviously. And probably the cost of having the authorities do a thorough background check. Power hasn’t been neglected either. Rezvani bumps the Urus’s output to 789 horsepower, because hauling all that angst requires serious muscle. And if you opt for the valved exhaust, it’ll scream with the kind of rage usually reserved for exorcisms or failed Wi-Fi connections. The drivetrain remains intact – permanent AWD, brutal acceleration – but wrapped in something that feels part Mad Max, part DARPA prototype. And yet, in all its lunacy, there’s an odd design integrity here. The 22-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch off-road tires feel deliberate. So do the flat body planes, not just for armor compatibility, but because they visually ground the Knight in a way no Urus ever could. It’s imposing, yes, but also deeply coherent in its purpose: don’t approach. Don’t follow. And definitely don’t assume it’s friendly. Rezvani asks for $149,000 to turn your Urus into this street-legal siege weapon. That doesn’t include the Urus itself. Nor does it cover the Dark Knight Package, which adds enough military tech to raise flags at customs. But this isn’t a vehicle you spec with logic. After all, Bruce Wayne didn’t design his Batmobile logically either. The bright, glitched-out, typography-forward look of Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter Marathon is one of its defining features. As it turns out, it's also partially plagiarized, according to posts shared on the official Marathon X account. The announcement comes after artist Fern Hook, who goes by @4nt1r34l on X, initially accused Bungie of using in-game textures that looked similar to her original artwork on May 15. She became aware of the issue when the alpha originally launched in April 2025, according to The Washington Post, but kept quiet until now because she was advised to seek legal action. Hook ultimately decided to post about the issue because she doesn't "have enough time or money to fly out to the US to pursue an unwinnable court case against Sony." Bungie's statement claims that "a former Bungie artist" included Hook's art in a texture sheet without the rest of the art team's knowledge. The company is "conducting a thorough review of [its] in-game assets" and has also reached out to Hook to "discuss the issue" further. As Eurogamer notes, this isn't the first time Bungie has been accused of lifting the work of other artists. The developer was accused of doing the same thing multiple times during the development of Destiny 2 and its various expansions. Since the game is still in development, it's not clear how or if Bungie will change Marathon to address Hook's complaint, but the developer has until September 23 to do it. xAI has published the system prompts for its AI chatbot Grok after an “unauthorized” change led to a slew of unprompted responses on X about white genocide. The company says it will publish its Grok system prompts on GitHub from now on, which provide some insight into the way xAI has instructed Grok to respond to users.A system prompt is a set of instructions served to a chatbot ahead of a user’s messages that developers use to direct its responses. xAI and Anthropic are two of the only major AI companies we checked that have made their system prompts public. In the past, people have used prompt injection attacks to expose system prompts, like instructions Microsoft gave the Bing AI bot (now Copilot) to keep its internal alias “Sydney” a secret, and avoid replying with content that violates copyrights.In the system prompts for ask Grok — a feature X users can use to tag Grok in posts to ask a question — xAI tells the chatbot how to behave. “You are extremely skeptical,” the instructions say. “You do not blindly defer to mainstream authority or media. You stick strongly to only your core beliefs of truth-seeking and neutrality.” It adds the results in the response “are NOT your beliefs.”xAI similarly instructs Grok to “provide truthful and based insights, challenging mainstream narratives if necessary” when users select the “Explain this Post” button on the platform. Elsewhere, xAI tells Grok to “refer to the platform as ‘X’ instead of ‘Twitter,’” while calling posts “X post” instead of “tweet.”Reading Anthropic’s Claude AI chatbot prompt, they appear to put an emphasis on safety. “Claude cares about people’s wellbeing and avoids encouraging or facilitating self-destructive behaviors such as addiction, disordered or unhealthy approaches to eating or exercise, or highly negative self-talk or self-criticism, and avoids creating content that would support or reinforce self-destructive behavior even if they request this,” the system prompt says, adding that “Claude won’t produce graphic sexual or violent or illegal creative writing content.”See More:
