WWW.POLYGON.COMAll echoes locations in Zelda: Echoes of WisdomThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is all about you guessed it echoes, clones of items that Zelda can make with Tris help. Our Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom echoes list shows you where to find each echo, along with how much energy it costs.Below, weve provided a list of all echoes in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, with details about how many total echoes there are and where to find them. And for a look at which ones to prioritize, see our recommendations of the best echoes. How many echoes are there in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom? There are 127 echoes in total, varying from inanimate objects and traps to bad guys, each with their own unique abilities. Youll find many of them from progressing naturally in the game, but there are a few that are tucked away in small corners of Hyrule. All echoes locations in Zelda: Echoes of WisdomSome echoes are in multiple locations, though we prefer to list the more permanent locations to find them. (For example, you may find one echo in a Stilled area, but after fixing the rift, it will be inaccessible in this location, so well list another more permanent place to find it.)Weve also used named locations where possible over generic locations so this means that though you may be able to find the Wind Cannon Echo in an unnamed cave in the desert, we opted to note that you can find it in the named Cryptic Cavern. The locations below may not be the only place to find them, but they were the easiest place to access for us to quickly backtrack missing echoes, in order.EchoEnergy costLocationTable1Hyrule Castle UndergroundOld Bed1Hyrule Castle UndergroundSoft Bed2Gerudo TownZeldas Bed3Hyrule CastleDecorative Shrub1Hyrule Castle UndergroundWooden Box1Hyrule Castle UndergroundPot1Hyrule Castle UndergroundHyrule Castle Pot1Hyrule CastleGerudo Pot1Gerudo TownBoulder1Hyrule Castle UndergroundRock1Hyrule Castle UndergroundLava Rock4Eldin VolcanoIce Block1Hebra MountainsSnowball2Hebra MountainsSign1Hyrule FieldGrilled Fish1Seesyde Village, requires Deliver the Grilled Fish! questMeat1Suthorn ForestRock Roast1Rock-Roast Quarry, Eldin VolcanoStuffed Toy1Graveyard north of Hyrule CastleCarrot1Carrot Field north of Hyrule Castle, requires Impas Gift questWater Block1Jabul RuinsElephant Statue1Gerudo SanctumHawk Statue1Gerudo SanctumCat Statue1Gerudo SanctumSnake Statue1Gerudo SanctumAncient Orb1Eternal ForestTrampoline1Suthorn VillageWind Cannon2Gerudo Desert, Cryptic CavernFlying Tile3Gerudo SanctumCloud2Lanayru TempleSpiked Roller4Cave east of Kakariko VillageBeetle Mound3Gerudo Valley, northern cave west of the quicksand areaFireworks2Goron City, The Fireworks Artist questBrazier2Eastern cave entrance in Suthorn ForestZol1Suthorn BeachIgnizol2Gerudo Desert, Ancestors Cave of RestHydrozol2Faron Wetlands, Deku Scrub LockupBuzz Blob3Faron WetlandsSpear Moblin1Hyrule FieldSpear Moblin Lv. 24Camp west of the Eastern TempleSword Moblin2Hyrule FieldSword Moblin Lv. 24Eternal ForestSword Moblin Lv. 35Eternal ForestClub Boarblin2Gerudo DesertClub Boarblin Lv. 24Gerudo DesertBoomerang Boarblin2Gerudo DesertBoomerang Boarblin Lv. 24Gerudo DesertLynel6Eternal ForestLizalfos3Eldin VolcanoLizalfos Lv. 24Lizalfos Burrow, Eldin VolcanoLizalfos Lv. 35Faron WetlandsDarknut3Suthorn RuinsDarknut Lv. 24Stilled Hyrule CastleDarknut Lv. 35Faron Wetlands, cave east of ScrubtonArmos2Faron TempleBall-and-Chain Trooper4Hyrule Castle dungeonGibdo3Gerudo SactumGibdo Lv. 24Gerudo DesertReDead3Gerudo DesertFire Wizzrobe5Eldin TempleIce Wizzrobe5Northeastern water area of Hebra MountainsElectric Wizzrobe5Faron WetlandsCaromadillo2Suthorn Forest, cave southwest of Suthorn RuinsCaromadillo Lv. 23Gerudo Desert, cave east of where the Stilled Desert Temple Ruins wasRope1Hyrule FieldTornando2Gerudo DesertRibbitune2Along the river north of Hyrule Castle TownDrippitune3Faron WetlandsTorch Slug3Eldin VolcanoFreeze Slug3Hebra MountainsHolmill3Gerudo Desert, Ancestors Cave of RestWolfos3Hyrule FieldWhite Wolfos5Lanayru TempleKeese1Suthorn Beach CaveFire Keese4Eldin VolcanoIce Keese4Hebra MountainsElectric Keese4Faron WetlandsMothula3Gerudo SanctumMothula Lv. 25Faron WetlandsNeedlefly2Faron WetlandsAlbatrawl2Above the sea in Jabul WatersCrow2Hyrule FieldBeakon3Faron WetlandsGuay3Hyrule FieldOctorok1Hyrule FieldFire Octo2Eldin VolcanoIce Octo2Hebra MountainsSea Urchin1Suthorn BeachSand Crab1Jabul Waters beachesBiri2Jabul WatersTangler1Jabul WatersTangler Lv. 22Jabul WatersBombfish4Jabul WatersChompfin4Jabul WatersPiranha2Faron WetlandsSand Piranha2Gerudo DesertDeku Baba2Suthorn RuinsBio Deku Baba3Jabul RuinsDeku Baba Lv. 23Faron WetlandsPeahat3Cave south of Suthorn RuinsGiant Goponga Flower4Faron WetlandsZirro3Eldin VolcanoGhirro2Stilled Hebra MountainMini-Moldorm2Eldin VolcanoStrandtula2Faron TempleCrawltula3Faron TempleBaby Gohma2Faron TempleBeetle1Gerudo DesertAruroda2Gerudo DesertTektite2Western Hyrule FieldTektite Lv. 23Lanayru TempleHoarder3Faron WetlandsPoe4Gerudo SanctumMoa3Lanayru TempleGoo Specter3Faron WetlandsGhini1Graveyard north of Hyrule CastleGhini Lv. 23Graveyard north of Hyrule CastleLeever2West of Conds house in Hebra MountainsPathblade1Gerudo Desert, Cryptic CavernGustmaster3Stilled Hyrule CastleTweelus2Eldin TempleTemper Tweelus3Lanayru TempleFreezard3Hebra MountainsSnomaul3Hebra MountainsSpark2Eastern Temple, east of Hyrule CastlePlatboom3Cave directly above Gerudo TownBeamos3Faron Wetlands, cave east of ScrubtonYou can see an overview of the games story with ourZelda: Echoes of Wisdomwalkthrough, and find what to do next off the beaten path with ourinteractiveEchoes of Wisdommap, as well as pages onheart pieces, fairy bottles, echoes, andside quests.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views

WWW.POLYGON.COMSTALKER 2 is best with Ukrainian voice acting (and English subtitles)After my colleague Charlie Hall reviewed STALKER 2 for Polygon and wrote up a bunch of beginners tips, he gave me a bonus tip that Id like to pass on here to all of you: Turn on the Ukrainian language voice acting with English subtitles. Yes, youll have to do some reading and therefore pay more attention while playing the game, but STALKER 2 is difficult, so youre paying plenty of attention anyway. The change-up is absolutely worth it.The English language voice actors sound just fine, of course, and if you didnt ever change over to the Ukrainian voice actors, you could just enjoy the whole game with no idea what youre missing out on. (My use of the word enjoy is leaving aside the games relatively unstable state at the time of this writing; Ive been playing on Xbox Series S via Game Pass, a version that does have some issues, but Ive had decent luck with it thus far.)There are a lot of good reasons to switch the language over. One reason is plain old realism. STALKER 2 was designed by Ukrainian studio GSC Game World, with development continuing even after the Russian invasion in 2022. The STALKER series is post-apocalyptic science-fiction set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine, and STALKER 2 continues that story, depicting characters local to that area dealing with both supernatural and real-life threats and finding community amongst one another despite the circumstances theyre all barely surviving each day. For all of those reasons, it just makes sense artistically and emotionally to hear Ukrainian spoken amongst the characters in this game. But also, youll enjoy the performances. The voice actor for Skif, the main character in the game, is an excellent performance in particular and the true standout for me. Since its his voice that youll be hearing for the entire game, its even more worthwhile to switch over and truly step into his shoes as you enter the Zone.0 Comments 0 Shares 2 Views

UXDESIGN.CCImpersonal software, dev-design mismatch, embracing play in designWeekly curated resources for designersthinkers andmakers.Having recently changed my day job, I have had a lot of contact with the tools and practices of hiring: the majority of the aforementioned, alongside the treatment of candidates, has been appalling.I cant claim to point to the ultimate cause, but the result is the dehumanization of candidates by analytical, AI and automated solutions that hiring managers turn to in order to deal with the unmanageable deluge of resumes from candidates who are themselves applying to jobs at scale and with the help ofAI.Why is hiring software so impersonal? UXDESIGN.CCCreativity is the only thingAn open letter to my fellow creatives in a darkhour.Image source: Thomas Dekker,1625Seventeenth century Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza makes a kind of ontological argument around the state of being that was both obvious and radical at the timeessentially, that which is made (everything) is divine by the fact that it is made. Its the type of statement that seems both obvious and puzzling when one takes a moment to think on it. Taking at face value that the divine is good, then that which is made, and hence the act of making, is also always a netgood.Context is important. The era which Spinoza was living was a fairly dangerous time. Spinozas Jewish grandparents faced brutal persecution at the hands of the Portuguese Inquisition. We often think of The Enlightenment as a period of robust intellectual growth in which the thinkers won the day, but thats not exactly true. In periods of new awakening many people, especially those in power, dont really like new ideas, it turns out. For every new idea, there were imprisonments, fines, banishments, and executions. At the same time of the Portuguese Inquisition, around the world we can clock the Yangzhou massacre, the atrocities of the first English Civil War, to say nothing of the knee-jerk reactions of most common people to the radical ideas forming at the time. The human story may look like an upward swing from far away, but there are a lot of very steep downward swoops along thepath. We may be in the middle of one now, a period of change and awakening. And like previous periods of same, there are so many things to be currently worried aboutpotential authoritarianism, genocide, religious fanaticism, climate change, uncontrolled AGI, unleashed nativismthat a period of change is handmaid with a period of struggle again. Weve made a queer mess of life, itseems. In uncomplicated times, it is easy to dismiss creativity as unserious. In the hardest times, its everything thereis.Creativity is risk. To do something different, or meaningful, or human, is messy. Creativity is accessing the part of the brain adjacent to emotions, and emotions are the opposite of rationality. It doesnt fit neatly into an ideal customer profile. You cant attach quarterly goals toit.I often talk about design on this blog, but the word design is kind of a stalking horse for me. By design, I mean creativity on a mass scale. I do not mean non-creative design, as so popularized by mercantile bozos in the modern era, a role akin to following the directions in a Lego booklet. For the past twenty years, creativity, art, and philosophical musing have gotten in the way of design (read: making money). We were told it was the era of Big Data. Let the data make decisions. It will not lead us astray. For ease of reference, lets call this the numbersgame.Heres a truth: the numbers game is intimately related to hard times. Any time the wrinkled tapestry of humanity has been put into the narrow strictures of a system, the system drives the humanity out of it, and all that is left is the system itself. It has happened time and time and time again. Hell, several middling movies were made about it. On a long enough timeline, systems applied to humans always end up proving their worth on the disruption of the ordinary human to demonstrate value. Im not exactly sure why every generation needs to learn this lesson on itsown. If youve made it this far, now here comes the part where I level with you and tell you the bad news: the Bad Guys are kind of winning right now. This iteration of the numbers game is wildly successful. If you are a young person reading this, you have my empathy, as you maybe only have a distant memory of time when all the most abysmally awful people were not continually rewarded with riches. By giving our internal thoughts and yearnings over to digital buckets, we commoditized the very weird and wild humanity that made us as a species so successful. Maybe the most appalling part is that, for at least a small period of time, we did it willingly. I was a part of that generation, and I admit it: I was wrong. I fucked up. I thought it would be like Star Trek. I dont know what what tosay. Now that the world is falling apart and everyone is out of a job, it might be time to take that dusty old creativity out of the box and look at itagain. There is a term of art in the business of making things called neutralization. In neutralization, you look at whoever is the leader of whatever youre trying to make, and you copy all the parts that work. It makes senseif youre going to beat them at their game, you want to make it as easy as possible for someone to switch to your thing. Give the people your competitors thing, plus something else (differentiation). This is the basic construct. So neutralization + differentiation = maybe a new thing people want.Maybe.Image Source: TelegurusThis may in fact lead to success, a kind of evolutionary feedback loop that creates a timeworn shape. So it is with nature, as well: a single form takes hold in a system, and evolution refines that form. But thats only true if the environment is static. When the environment changes, the traits rewarded change as well. This is the fundamental truth of evolution: traits are only as valuable as the environment which rewards them. Dinosaurs varied in all different shapes and approaches, and were a radically successful species. But when Chicxulub came knocking, the environment no long rewarded those massive calorie monsters anymore. The environment changed, and the new environment was one that rewarded small, scavenger mammals. The environment has again changed, and I say hello to my fellow rodent weirdos.Heres how I know artistic creativity is a powerful spell that those in power cant subvert easily: theres no fucking money init.If youre interested in learning about what a society values, look at what their education system focuses on. Here in America at least, the love with data and rote computation begins early. We require our students learn to take tests, to compete for spots in meritocratic schools, and finally, to fill the ranks of the upper-middle class set of strivers, who will beget their own little striver offspring. A student that has outre views or is unwilling to settle down to the task at hand at their desks is branded as trouble-maker, or worse. Theres a very simple reason for that: the educational system is by and large designed to reward conformist, data-driven thinking. Our factories and data centers demand bodies to operate the switches, because there is money to be made in the operation of switches.By happenstance, we find ourselves now at a time when the value of the human workerthe switch operatoris being challenged. We dont need to wait for AGI to threaten this base societal valuation: it is here now. As I outlined in a previous piece, the commodified creative is already a lost battle. Finding yourself in a digital creativity space these days is finding yourself asked to perform pattern-matching, and not much more. How to increase views. How to get more likes. Strategies for maximizing subscriber tiers. The miasma is filled with strategies to find a way to adapt to this era, and most of them are depressing and stupid. I propose an entirely different and mostly irrational alternative strategy: giving up and retreating to our humansroots.I think this current modality we are living in has reached the end state. I think the changes that will happen in the next ten years will be so radically contra to what you know now, that investing in anything that approaches your current life or understanding of the world will be useless. And in this moment, the fool of the class becomes the starstudent. The final disruption is of the system itself. And radical creative humanness is the sword we canwield.Roussot et Ferrier(1970)I am not going to insult you, reader, and propose that hard times cause good work: for every breakup or bubonic plague that makes a good sad song or Decameron, theres millions of other awful events that yield nothing but pain and misery. Instead, I suggest we flip the conceit on its head. For every wonderful piece of work, theres usually a seed of introspection that reveals a deepertruth. In dark times, the things that were fluff become the things that people need and hold on to, tightly. To paraphrase Tolstoy, everyones unhappiness is unique, but there are things that join us, and the the things that join us are the things that give people purposefaith, insight into their fellow humans, and strength to get on with the ordinary business of living. As a creative person, you are uniquely positioned to be doing thosethings.Suffering is a part of life, but suffering does not have to be the end state. Making something important to you is an expression of what is inside you. The form is immaterial, whether an app or poem. But the creation of something for an audience of one is so in opposition to what weve have been told is importantthe revenue, the likes, the audiencethat it feels radical in its lack of supervision.Indulge me in a mild thought experiment. Pretend, for a moment, you are the only person on the planet. No one will ever see your work. No compliments or awards will ever come. No critique or canceling will ever occur. You dont have to worry about approval from an app store, or going viral, or whether it gets picked up by Netflix. There is no audience, at all. What would youmake? If youre anything like me, so poisoned by the internet, to actually consider this is a little bit jarring. It is in this moment, you see how truly captured we are by the current numbers game. This is how the forces of darkness winthey convince you that what you make is only important in how it is related to what they want: more power, more money, more attention. But it is not so. You do not have to play their game, really. You may have to work their jobs, you may have to exist in their world, but you dont have to care what they think. Its not yourfault. This is what you must do: you must think and sit and consider what value you bring to the world. You are free, if youwant.Creativity is the only thing was originally published in UX Collective on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views

LIFEHACKER.COMMy Favorite Vacuum/Mop Combo Is $150 Off for Black FridayWe may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.During Black Friday sales, I'm always finding sales on cool new stuff that I don't already havebut I'm especially excited when I see there's a sale on something I do have, because that means I get to share the wealth. In this case, I'm excited to say that my favorite vacuum, the Bissell CrossWave OmniForce, is on sale for the shopping holiday. Actually, no. It's not my favorite vacuum; it's more than that. This thing is a vacuum and a mop. It's extremely cool, versatile, space-saving, and functional. The Bissel CrossWave OmniForce BISSELL CrossWave OmniForce Cordless Hard Floor Cleaner $229.99 at Amazon $379.99 Save $150.00 Get Deal Get Deal $229.99 at Amazon $379.99 Save $150.00 As I've mentioned before, I replaced my trusty (and very beloved) Bissell Featherweight Stick with the CrossWave OmniFore a few months ago. To be clear, I loved the Featherweight Stick. It's around $30 and beat the hell out of the vacuum I was using before that. I loved it so much, actually, that when I mentioned it in a different review earlier this year, Bissell sent me the CrossWave OmniForce to test out. It normally retails for $379.99, which is out of my price range, so while I was extremely grateful for this personal come-up, I recommended it to you all with the caveat that it's a little spendy. It's worth it, but spendy! Until today, anyway. For Black Friday, this thing is almost 40% off. Why I love the Bissell vacuum/mop comboI'm a big fan of this device because it allowed me to toss out my old vacuum and mop. It has a hefty suction force that yanks the dirt out of my rugs with almost alarming ease. It maintains a solid charge long enough for me to clean my whole apartment, so I'm not tethered to a cord. You can either use the vacuum on its own or go dual mode, vacuuming and mopping all at once. It has two tanks that keep clean and dirty water separate and cleans its own brush roll so dust and debris are shifted over into the dirty tank. It's a little heavier than what I was used to, but that's kind of the point; it's an all-in-one deal and it needs to be sturdier to pack its suction punch. I haven't run into any issues other than that, even with my propensity for buying dirt-cheap rugs that should, realistically, fall apart under any kind of pressure. Maybe that says more about the quality of my $22 rug, but I'm always impressed when it survives another round with the Bissell. In general, I am a Bissell brand loyalist. The devices are less expensive than other fancy vacuums on the market, but every Bissell I've owned or used has worked really well. If you're interested in everything the brand has to offer and want a nice discount, check out their other Black Friday deals. LIFEHACKER.COMThe Google Play Store Will Soon Warn You Before You Download a Bad AppNot all apps are created equal. For every incredible, must-have app on the Play Store, there are dozens of low-effort, ad-ridden, useless options as well. There's a lot you can do yourself to try to avoid these shovelware apps as you peruse the Play Store: Pay attention to reviews, scan the provided screenshots, investigate the privacy policy, and absorb the app's overall "vibe." This is not foolproof, however. No matter who you are, eventually, you download an app you think is interesting, only to open it and find another program you have to delete.Google may soon warn you about useless appsAs it happens, this responsibility might not be all on you going forward. Android Authority recently investigated version 43.7.19-31 of the Play Store app, and found something interesting: Google might soon tip you off whenever it thinks an app is a poor choice. The site found three messages Google is working on sharing with users whenever it detects one of these mediocre apps:This app is frequently uninstalled compared to similar apps on Play.Play has limited user data about this app. This app has few active users compared to others on Play.As you can tell from the messages themselves, Google is working off of a few pieces of evidence here: The company is looking at how many uninstalls the app has, against other apps in this particular category; the amount of user data available for the app (or lack thereof); and how many active users this app has when compared to others like it. According to Android Authority, these messages won't appear as alerts when you tap on the Play Store page for any given bad app. Instead, the message will be displayed inline with the rest of the details about that app. So, as you browse the page, you'll see a summary of the app from the developer, the app's safety, ratings and reviews for the app, and, oh, a tag that subtly suggests this app isn't worth your time at all.Because these metrics aren't necessarily smoking guns that the app is trash, it makes sense Google wouldn't blast these alerts whenever people access the app's page. Instead, it's a helpful warning for potential users to keep an eye out before taking the plunge on an appuseful for avoiding wasted time, but also critical for avoiding wasted money, if the app charges a fee. This wouldn't be Google's first app detection featureNone of this is currently liveAndroid Authority discovered these messages within the code of this version of the Play Store, not within the actual Play Store pages themselves. It's possible Google might never actually take off with this feature, although there's precedent to think they might: The company recently rolled out live threat detection for Google Play Protect, a feature that looks for potentially malicious apps on your phone. If detected, the system pings you about the suspected app, so you can evaluate whether or not it actually seems like a threat.Whether it's for identifying malware, or to simply save you from a useless app, I'm all for Google investing resources into these types of warnings for users. Let's hope other players in big tech follow suit. WWW.ENGADGET.COMThe best wireless earbuds for 2024While you could say the Bluetooth earbuds space is thriving, you could also say the amount of variety in the market can make it confusing to decide which pair will be the best Bluetooth earbuds for you. There are plenty of high-quality options out there, with solid active noise cancellation (ANC) like the AirPods Pro 2, sound quality and designs, so for many, the decision will come down to unique features that big companies like Sony, Bose, Apple and Samsung put in their products.I've tested and reviewed dozens of sets of earbuds a year for Engadget, constantly pitting new models against the previous best across all price ranges to keep this list of the best true wireless earbuds up to date. This guide explains why my current selections for the best wireless earbuds made the cut, and offers some shopping advice in terms of everything you need to know before choosing the best true wireless earbuds for your needs. If earbuds arent your jam, however, you can check out our best headphones buying guide, covering our favorite wireless, over-ear headphones, noise-canceling headphones and more. Table of contents Best wireless earbuds of 2024 What to look for in wireless earbuds How we test wireless earbuds Other wireless earbuds we tested Wireless earbuds FAQs Best wireless earbuds What to look for in wireless earbuds When it comes to shopping for earphones, the first thing to consider is design or wear style. Do you prefer a semi-open fit like AirPods or do you want something that completely closes off your ears? If youre shopping for earbuds with active noise cancellation, you'll want the latter, but a case can be made for the former if you want to wear them all day or frequent places where you need to be tuned in to the ambient sounds. The overall shape of earbuds can determine whether you get a comfortable fit, so can the size and weight, so youll want to consider all that before deciding. And remember: audio companies arent perfect, so despite lots of research, the earbud shape they decided on may not fit you well. Dont be afraid to return ill-fitting earbuds for something thats more comfortable. As wireless earbuds have become the norm, theyre now more reliable for basic things like consistent Bluetooth connectivity. Companies are still in a race to pack as much as they can into increasingly smaller designs. This typically means a longer list of features on the more premium sets of earbuds with basic functionality on the cheapest models. Carefully consider what you cant live without when selecting your next earbuds, and make sure key items like automatic pausing and multipoint connectivity are on the spec sheet. Youll also want to investigate the volume and touch controls as youll often have to sacrifice access to something else to make that adjustment via on-board taps or swipes. Some earbuds even offer app settings to tweak the audio profiles or firmware updates to improve performance over time. For those in the Apple ecosystem, features like auto-pairing with devices, especially with AirPods Pro 2, can be an added advantage, while Android users may want to look for models that offer similar cross-device functionality. When it comes to battery life, the average set of earbuds lasts about five hours on a single charge. You can find sets that last longer, but this is likely enough to get you through a work day if youre docking the buds during lunch or the occasional meeting. Youll want to check on how many extra charges are available via the case and if it supports wireless charging. Companies will also make lofty claims about call quality on wireless earbuds. Despite lots of promises, the reality is most earbuds still leave you sounding like youre on speakerphone. There are some sets that deliver, but dont get your hopes up unless reviews confirm the claims. Sound can be subjective, so we recommend trying before you buy if at all possible. This is especially true if you're an audiophile. We understand this isnt easy when most of us do a lot of shopping online, but trying on a set of earbuds and listening to them for a few minutes can save you from an expensive case of buyer's remorse. If a store doesnt allow a quick demo, most retailers have return policies that will let you take earbuds back you dont like. Of course, you have to be willing to temporarily part with funds in order to do this. We also recommend paying attention to things like Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos, 360 Reality Audio and other immersive formats. Not all earbuds support them, so youll want to make sure a perspective pair does if that sort of thing excites you, especially if you plan to use them for playback of high-quality audio. How we test wireless Bluetooth earbuds The primary way we test earbuds is to wear them as much as possible. We prefer to do this over a one- to two-week period, but sometimes embargoes dont allow it. During this time, we listen to a mix of music and podcasts, while also using the earbuds to take both voice and video calls. Since battery life for earbuds is typically less than a full day, we drain the battery with looping music and the volume set at a comfortable level (usually around 75 percent). To judge audio quality, we listen to a range of genres, noting any differences in the sound profile across the styles. We also test at both low and high volumes to check for consistency in the tuning. To assess call quality, well record audio samples with the earbuds microphones as well as have third parties call us. When it comes to features, we do a thorough review of companion apps, testing each feature as we work through the software. Any holdovers from previous models are double checked for improvements or regression. If the earbuds were testing are an updated version of a previous model, well spend time getting reacquainted with the older buds. Ditto for the closest competition for each new set of earbuds that we review. Other wireless Bluetooth earbuds we tested Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 The Galaxy Buds 3 combine ANC with an open-type design, which renders the noise-blocking abilities of the earbuds mostly useless. Still, theres great low-end tone with ample bass when a track demands it. There are also lots of handy features, most of which require a Samsung phone. But at this price, there are better options from Google, Beats and Sony Sennheiser Momentum Sport I really like the overall shape of the Momentum Sport earbuds. Theyre more comfortable than the Momentum True Wireless 4 and fit in my ears better. Whats more, the body temperature and heart rate sensors work well, sending those stats to a variety of apps. However, that sport-tracking feature works best with Polars app and devices, so theres that consideration. Also, the audio quality and ANC performance isnt as good as the MTW4, and these earbuds are pricey. Beats Solo Buds Theres a lot to like about the Solo Buds for $80. For me, the primary perk is theyre very comfortable to wear for long periods of time thanks to some thoughtful design considerations. You only get the basics here in terms of features and, as expected, the overall sound quality isnt as good as the pricier models in the Beats lineup. You will get 18 hours of battery life though, since the company nixed the battery in the case and beefed up the listening time in the buds themselves. Bose Ultra Open Earbuds Bose created something very unique for this set of earbuds that allows you to stay in-tune with the world while listening to audio content. The clip-on design is very comfortable, but sound quality suffers due to the open-type fit, especially when it comes to bass and spatial audio. Audio-Technica ATH-TWX7 These stick buds have a compact design thats comfortable to wear and the warm sound profile is great at times. However, overall audio performance is inconsistent and theres no automatic pausing. Master & Dynamic MW09 Retooled audio, better ambient sound mode and reliable multipoint Bluetooth are the best things the MW09 has to offer. Theyre expensive though, and you can find better ANC performance elsewhere. Beats Studio Buds + Updates to sound, ANC and battery life top the spec sheet here, and the new clear color option has some throwback energy I love. But there are some basic features missing, and Beats doesnt come close to Apples natural audio quality in transparency mode. JBL Tour Pro 2 These earbuds are feature-packed, including a touchscreen smart case. They arent the most consistent in terms of overall performance though, and Im not convinced that case provides a lot of utility just yet. Wireless earbud FAQs What is considered good battery life for true wireless earbuds? Most wireless earbuds will last five hours on a single charge, at the least. You can find some pairs that have even better battery life, lasting between six and eight hours before they need more juice. All of the best wireless earbuds come with a charging case, which will provide additional hours of battery life but you'll have to return each bud to the case in order to charge them up. Is sound quality better on headphones or earbuds? Comparing sound quality on earbuds and headphones is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. There are a lot of variables to consider and the differences in components make a direct comparison difficult. Personally, I prefer the audio quality from over-ear headphones, but I can tell you the sound from earbuds like Sennheisers Momentum True Wireless 3 is also outstanding. Which wireless earbuds have the longest battery life? With new models coming out all the time, tracking the hours of battery life for each this can be difficult to keep tabs on. The longest-lasting earbuds weve reviewed are Audio-Technicas ATH-CKS5TW. The company states they last 15 hours, but the app was still showing 40 percent at that mark during our tests. The only downside is these earbuds debuted in 2019 and both technology and features have improved since. In terms of current models, Master & Dynamics MW08 offers 12 hours of use on a charge with ANC off (10 with ANC on) and JBL has multiple options with 10-hour batteries. What wireless earbuds are waterproof? There are plenty of options these days when it comes to increased water resistance. To determine the level of protection, youll want to look for an IP (ingress protection) rating. The first number indicates intrusion protection from things like dust. The second number is the level of moisture protection and youll want to make sure that figure is 7 or higher. At this water-resistance rating, earbuds can withstand full immersion for up to 30 minutes in depths up to one meter (3.28 feet). If either of the IP numbers is an X, that means it doesnt have any special protection. For example, a pair of wireless earbuds that are IPX7 wouldnt be built to avoid dust intrusion, but they would be ok if you dropped them in shallow water. Which earbuds stay in ears the best? A secure fit can vary wildly from person to person. All of our ears are different, so audio companies are designing their products to fit the most people they can with a single shape. This is why AirPods will easily fall out for some but stay put for others. Design touches like wing tips or fins typically come on fitness models and those elements can help keep things in place. Youll likely just have to try earbuds on, and if they dont fit well return them. What wireless earbuds work with PS5? PlayStation 5 doesnt support Bluetooth audio without an adapter or dongle. Even Sonys own gaming headsets come with a transmitter that connects to the console. There are universal options that allow you to use any headphones, headset or earbuds with a PS5. Once you have one, plug it into a USB port on the console and pair your earbuds with it.
