The best USB-C charger for your MacBook Pro or Air
MacworldUnlike the iPhone, Apple ships a USB-C power adapter with all its MacBooks: Air and Pro. Unless your laptop stays in the same place all of the time, having a spare or a specific travel MacBook charger is a useful addition. You can buy a second Apple charger or check out more versatile, cheaper and smaller MacBook chargers to suit your needs and budget. Its important to note that there are risks with buying a cheap charger and we dont recommend you choose on price alone. That bargain MacBook charger might just fry your laptop or get dangerously hot. However, there are some great premium chargers from trusted brands that sell for less than Apple pricey chargers. What to look for in a MacBook chargerPD chargingWhat you need is a Power Delivery (PD) charger that can connect to your MacBook via USB-C. PD chargers can support up to 240W of power, although the most common congregate around the standard laptop power requirements: 30W, 45W, 65W and 100W. All the USB-C chargers we have tested here are PD chargers. All the chargers tested here can also fast-charge an iPhone.PD version 3.0 supports up to 100W. PD 3.1 can charge at 140W, which is what you need to fast-charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro. Note that the Thunderbolt/USB-C ports are all rated at PD 3.0only the MagSafe port is PD 3.1 so you must use Apples USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable, rather than a USB-C cable, to fast-charge the 140W 16-inch MacBook Pro. You can still power the laptop via USB-C or Thunderbolt cable but 100W is the maximum power via that method.WattageThe amount of power a charger can give your MacBook is, safety aside, the most important feature to look for when choosing a laptop charger.A laptop is designed to draw up to a certain amount of watts when running at full power; that is when you are stretching it by using lots of apps or pushing the graphics and video rendering functionsnot when youre just browsing the web. This level of max power is what the manufacturer considers when it decides on the wattage of the charger it includes with the laptop. When the laptop is idle or doing mundane jobs, it will draw only a small amount of power from the charger.Fast Charging Apple supports silicon fast charging on its latest MacBook models. When connected with the right charger and cable, you can charge a MacBook battery up to 50 per cent in 30 minutes. The M2 MacBook Air can be fast charged using a 65W or higher power adapter and either the MagSafe or a USB-C charging cable; see our M2 MacBook Air fast-charging tests. The M3 Air requires a 70W charger, which effectively pushes you to 100W for a non-Apple charger. On the 14-inch MacBook Pro, you can fast-charge with a 96W or higher USB-C charger and USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable or USB-C charge cable. On the 16-inch MacBook Pro, you can fast-charge only with an 140W USB-C Power Adapter paired with the USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable because the Thunderbolt ports are still 100W PD 3.0. Several companies now make a power adapter that supports the latest PD 3.1 standard that supports power output to up to 240W; other USB chargers have a practical maximum of 100W. It is fine to charge a laptop with a higher-wattage power adapter than it needs. It wont charge it any quicker (unless you follow the fast-charge rules above), but rest assured that a premium charger such as the ones reviewed here wont overcharge the MacBook battery and may have extra ports to change iPhones and other devices. If the charger has more wattage than it needs, it can use the spare power to charge other devices at the same time as the laptop.PortsMore ports on a charger make more sense as we all have more than one device that needs charging. Look for the total power output if you want to charge more than one device at the same time. When youre using your MacBook at full power, your charger might not have enough spare power for charging other devices unless you buy a charger with a higher wattage where the excess power can be channeled to your iPhone or AirPods at the same time as you power your laptop. PortabilityApples silicon-based power adapters are mostly larger than third-party chargers that are built using Gallium nitride (GaN) technology. GaN is a material that produces less heatand less heat means components can be closer together. This means GaN chargers can be smaller than previously possible. Some of todays GaN chargers are so small they can slip in your pocket, although youll still need to coil that USB-C cable somewhere too. Apple is late to the GaN party, but its recent GaN power adapters are certainly smaller than its older models.FoundryDue to their ultra-safe, sturdy three-pin Type G plug, the U.K. models are usually wider than their U.S. Type A and B plug counterparts. Fewer feature handy folding plug pins (see above) that can be found on most U.S. wall chargers, but they are becoming more standard on non-Apple-made chargers.Dimensions given in our reviews are for the U.S. models, which are also pictured for each product, but U.K. models are mostly also available. We have tested and reviewed wall chargers that ship with interchangeable plugs for international travel, as well as wall chargers that double up as travel adapters with all the plugs you should need wherever you are in the world plus USB ports and a spare power socket. If you need true portability away from a power socket, look for a laptop power bank. We tested a 25000mAh power bank that can fully recharge a 14-inch MacBook Pro. See our tests of the best portable power banks for MacBook.Wall, desktop or strip chargersMost of the PD chargers we review here are wall chargers that plug straight into the power socket. You could also consider a desktop charger, which differs from a straight-to-socket wall charger by connecting to power via a longer plugged cable, so offering greater range. This is sometimes a neater and more versatile desk solution, but isnt as pocketable for travel as a wall charger that requires just the charger-to-device cable.Another option is a power strip or extender. The best weve seen is from Ugreen. Its 100W 7-in-1 power strip features two 100W PD USB-C ports, one 22.5W USB-C and one 22.5W USB-A port, plus an extension plug socket on its top. Baseus has a more compact 100W PowerCombo strip with four USB ports. Both are reviewed below.CableYou need to connect the charger to your MacBook using a USB-C to USB-C charging cable or USB-C to MagSafe cable. If your Mac has a MagSafe 3 port (MacBook Air introduced in 2022; 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021), you can use Apples own USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (PD 3.1-supporting 240W maximum). As well as freeing up one of the MacBooks Thunderbolt ports, this can protect from accidental cable pulls and is required for MacBook fast-charging on the 16in, but it is expensive at $49/49 compared to a quality USB-C cable. Apples USB-C to USB-C charging cables (100W maximum) cost $19/19 but you can find quality USB-C charging cables cheaper, for example from Ugreen (direct U.S. / Amazon.com / Amazon U.K.).Few of the chargers reviewed here come with a USB-C cable. Of course, you can use the cable that shipped with your MacBook, but having a spare is always useful. Weve rounded up the best USB-C and Thunderbolt cables. Here are our reviews of our favorite MacBook chargers. Later, we give more specific tips on buying the right charger for your model of MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.Anker 713 Nano II Best single-port 45W wall chargerProsUltra compact45WFoldable plug (U.S.)ConsSingle portDimensions: 1.38 x 1.49 x 1.62in (3.5 x 3.8 x 4.1cm)Weight: 2.44oz (69g)Ports: 1x USB-C (45W PD)Total power output: 45WColors: BlackBest for: MacBook AirThis single-port 45W charger is a much better option for MacBook Air owners as we believe that the Apple-supplied 30W or 35W Power Adapters are a little underpowered for the laptops potential maximum needs. It is also tiny in comparison to the Apple-supplied charger (38% smaller in volume than Apples non-GaN 30W Power Adapter, and 20% smaller than the 35W charger), and significantly cheaper while being a safe, trusted brand. Like the other Anker wall chargers, this model features foldable (U.S.) plug pins. The U.K. model is as great, although without the neat foldable plug pins.Because the M2 and M3 Air can be fast-charged using a higher power adapter, the Anker 715 65W Charger (below) is a better option and only a few bucks more in price and fractions of an inch in size. Its not Apples prescribed 70W but wed expect it to charge faster than at 45W. Or you should consider a multiport 65W charger, such as the Ugreen Nexode 65W 3-Port Charger or the Anker Prime 67W GaN Wall Chargerboth of which are super-compact and will charge other devices at the same time as you are charging a laptop; see their reviews below.Anker 715 Nano II Best single-port 65W wall chargerProsCompact65WFoldable plug (U.S.)ConsSingle portPrice When Reviewed:42,99Best Prices Today: RetailerPrice0.01View DealPrice comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwideProductPricePrice comparison from Backmarket0.01 at idealoDimensions: 1.65 x 1.42 x 1.74in (4.2 x 3.6 x 4.4cm)Weight: 3.96oz (112g)Ports: 1x USB-C (65W PD 3.0)Total power output: 65WColors: BlackBest for: MacBook Air; 13-inch MacBook Pro; 8-core 14-inch MacBook ProA single-port 65W charger is the most affordable fast-charger for MacBook Air owners. You can use it to fast-charge an M2 MacBook, but it wont overcharge it and it will keep the battery topped up while you are working on your laptop. Note that the pins on the U.K. version do not fold, so users from that country should consider the older but still great non-Pro Nexode 65W Charger that does have foldable U.K. plug pins or the Anker Prime 67W Charger reviewed below. It really is a tiny wonder. The Anker Prime 67W Wall Charger is just as compact, and both make fine mid-sized MacBook chargers. The two USB-C ports each support 65W, and the lower USB-A port can charge at up to 22.5W. Other same-time charging options include 45W for a laptop and 20W for a second device, or 45W plus 15W shared between the other two outputs. And you can fast-charge an M2 MacBook Air when using just one of the 65W ports. While its perfectly suitable for the 14in MacBook Pro, a 100W power adapter can fast-charge that model using either a USB-C charging cable or Apples own MagSafe 3 cable.Anker Prime 67W GaN Wall Charger (3 Ports) Best= 3-port 65W USB-C wall chargerPros3 ports67WFoldable plug (U.S. and U.K.)Smallest multiport chargerConsNot for the top-end 14-inch MBPPrice When Reviewed:59,99 EuroBest Prices Today: RetailerPrice0.01View Deal59,99 View DealAnker59,99 View DealPrice comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwideProductPricePrice comparison from Backmarket0.01 at idealo59,99 at Amazon Marketplace CE59,99 at AnkerDimensions: 1.6 x 1.5 x 1.9in (4 x 3.8 x 5cm)Weight: 4.8oz (136g)Ports: 2x USB-C (67W PD 3.0) and 1x USB-A (22.5W)Total power output: 67WColors: BlackBest for: MacBook Air; 13-inch MacBook Pro; 8-core 14-inch MacBook ProIt might be bigger and heavier than the 45W or 65W single-port Anker chargers, but this GaN charger offers you much more with its three ports. It is the smallest multiport USB-C wall charger, and it weighs just 136g, an indistinguishable difference to the equally compact 130g Ugreen Nexode 65W 3-Port USB-C Wall Charger. Both the U.S. and the U.K. models feature a foldable plug. The U.K. model is a little larger due to the Type-G 3-pin plug but its the smallest and lightest multiport 67W charger available in the U.K.Each port will adapt to your charging requirements. You can charge a laptop at up to 65W using just one of the USB-C ports or charge the laptop at 45W and another device at 20W via the other USB-C port. Another option is to power a laptop at 40W via USB-C, and an iPhone or Apple Watch at up to 22.5W using the USB-A port. Using all three ports, the first USB-C port can power the laptop at 40W, the second an iPhone at 12W, and the USB-A port could power up your AirPods at 12W. Its a great choice for fast-charging an M2 MacBook Air or just as a multiport solution for the 13in and entry-level 14in MacBook Pro. As with the Ugreen Nexode Pro, reviewed above, it will power the top-end 14-inch MacBook Pro, but a 100W charger can fast-charge that model. It can charge up to four USB-C devices (three laptops and a USB-C tablet) and two smartphones or other devices at the same time with its giant 200W of total charging power.Despite the 200W total output, the most one port can manage is 100W, which is fine for charging even Apples largest laptop but not for fast-charging the 16in Pro.This is a great option if you need to charge up to three MacBooks at a timefor example, two at 65W and one at 45W, and theres capacity to spare to power another device at 20W.Using all six ports would allow a combination of one 65W PD, two 45W PD, one 20W, and two 12W for less hungry devices, such as iPhone, AirPods or iPad.It ships with a 5ft (1.5M) USB-C cable.Ugreen has a similar 200W USB-C GaN Charger with four USB-C and two USB-A, but its larger with a lesser-powered USB-C lineup.Anker Prime Charger (250W, 6 Ports) Best customizable desktop chargerPrice When Reviewed:159,99Best Prices Today: RetailerPrice0.01View DealAnker140,00 View Deal183.56View DealPrice comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwideProductPricePrice comparison from Backmarket0.01 at idealo140,00 at Anker183.56 at JACOBDimensions:4.2 1.6 3.6 inches (10.6 4 9.3cmWeight: 1.41lb (640g)Ports: 1x USB-C (140W PD 3.1), 3x USB-C (100W PD 3.0), 1x USB-A (22.5W)Total output: 250WColors: GrayBest for: MacBook Air; 13-inch/14-inch/16-inch MacBook ProSimilar to the Anker Prime Charger (200W, 6 Ports, GaN) reviewed above, the Anker Prime Charger (250W, 6 Ports) adds 140W PD 3.1 functionality that is particularly useful for owners of the 16-inch MacBook Pro.It too has six USB ports: one 140W USB-C port (PD 3.1) and three 100W USB-C (PD 3.0) ports, plus two 22.5W USB-A ports on the side. You can manually set power priority for one or two ports as you require (Port Priority Mode) or make sure that the laptops are at the front of the charging queue (Dual-Laptop Mode). A Low Current Mode helps to preserve battery life of phones and low-power devices. Its more powerful than Apples 35W Power Adapter and less expensive. It does have just the one port, but the amount of spare charge youd get using a 35W charger with a MacBook Air isnt likely to offer much if you are also trying to charge even your AirPods unless the laptop was sitting doing not much at all at the time.Going for a 65W or even 100W multiport charger makes more sense. Ankers three-port Anker Prime 67W GaN Wall Charger (U.S. / U.K.) can charge a laptop at 45W and an iPhone or iPad at 20W. It has two USB-C ports (both capable of PD charging at 65W, although not at the same time) and a 22.5W USB-A port. You could even charge a MacBook Air at 40W (still higher than Apples supplied charger), an iPhone at 12W and a set of AirPods at 5W. Or fast-charge an M2 MacBook Air.Ugreens 3-port Nexode Pro 65W USB-C Charger (U.S. / U.K.) is similar, although a smidge larger. Using all three ports, you could charge a laptop at 45W and two smaller devices at 15W shared.Best charger for 13-inch or 14-inch MacBook ProThe 13-inch MacBook Pro ships with a 67W Power Adapter, so you can look to a 65W charger to save on money and size.Your choice of charger for the 14-inch MacBook Pro depends on the model. The M3 14-inch MacBook Pro ships with a 70W adapter while the M3 Pro and M3 Max model ships with a 96W charger.A 65W charger will suffice, but you wont get fast-charging like you will with a 100W model. Anker has the most affordable single-port charger, the 715 Nano II 65W (U.S. / U.K.). For a multiport 100W charger we rate Ugreens 4-port Nexode 100W USB-C Wall Charger (U.S. / U.K.) or the Anker 737 GaNPrime 120W Charger (U.S. / U.K.), which is smaller and has a higher total power output but features one less port. Very similar to the Ugreen 100W Charger is the Anker Prime 100W GaN Wall Charger (U.S. / U.K.), which both U.S. and U.K. users will appreciate for its foldable plug prongs. As well as fast-charging a 14in Pro using the 100W port, you can charge at full 65W power and have spare to charge another device at up to 30W, or charge the laptop a little slower and charge three other devices, say your iPhone, iPad and AirPods.Best charger for 15-inch MacBook ProWhile it shipped with an 87W Apple Power Adapter, we recommend a 100W charger for the 15-inch MacBook Pro. We prefer a charger that can power multiple devices at the same time, so we like Ugreens 4-port Nexode 100W USB-C Wall Charger (U.S. / U.K.).For a budget one-port 100W wall charger, the Nekteck 100W USB-C Charger (U.S.) will save you some cash and has a neat foldable U.S. plug. It also comes with its own 2m (6.5ft) USB-C cable but doesnt work with Apples MagSafe 3 charger. The most versatile and affordable desktop charger weve tested is the 200W 6-port Anker Prime Charger (U.S. / U.K.), which boasts a whopping six ports (4x USB-C, and 2x USB-A).Best charger for 16-inch MacBook ProUntil recently Apple made this recommendation easy. Its 140W Power Adapter (U.S. / U.K.) will fast-charge the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021 and later models) from 0-50 percent charge in 30 minutes as it supports the most up-to-date PD 3.1 charing.Apple recommends pairing its 140W Power Adapter with a 16inch MacBook Pro (2021) using its USB-C to MagSafe 3 as the only way to fast-chargethe Tunderbolt ports are PD 3.0 rated rather than 3.1. Its not cheap, but for pure power this is the combination you want with Apples largest MacBook.Anker, Ugreen and Plugable have now released their own PD 3.1 fast-charging USB-C 140W chargersthe Anker 717 Charger (U.S.) is the same price and limited to the same one port. It is, however, 40% smaller than Apples super-tall 140W charger. The Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W Charger (U.S. / U.K.) is much smaller than the Apple 140W charger and boasts four charging ports. Fast-charge the 16-inch MacBook using the top USB-C port, and luxuriate with 100W and 30W ports below, and a 22.5W USB-A port at the topalthough remember that the maximum total output is 160W. As the most able PD 3.1 charger, we recommend this as a portable second charger for 16in MacBook Pro owners if they travel with their laptop a lot.If you can live without the fast charging, a 100W charger should be ample for most situations, and here there are more options with multi-charging opportunities.Ugreens Nexode 100W USB-C Wall Charger (U.S. / U.K.) has four charging ports, but for a budget one-port 100W wall charger its hard to beat the Nekteck 100W USB-C Charger (U.S), which comes with its own 2m (6.5ft) USB-C cable. And, again, Ugreens powerful Nexode 200W USB-C Desktop Charger (U.S. / U.K.) is a great, if less portable, option.Which charger does each MacBook need? Here are the power specs of the batteries and power adapters that Apple ships with each of its MacBooks:M1 MacBook Air: 30W Power AdapterM2 MacBook Air: 30W or 35W Power Adapter depending on 8-or-10-core GPU (Graphics Processing Unit); fast-charge capable with 70W charger or higherM3 MacBook Air: 30W or 35W Power Adapter depending on 8-or-10-core GPU (Graphics Processing Unit); fast-charge capable with 70W charger or higher15-inch M3 MacBook Air: 35W Power Adapter; fast-charge capable with 70W charger or higher13-inch M1 MacBook Pro: 61W Power Adapter13-inch M2 MacBook Pro: 67W Power Adapter14-inch M2 Pro/Max MacBook Pro: 67W or 96W Power Adapter depending on 10-or-12-core GPU; fast-charge capable with 96W charger or higher14-inch M3 Pro/Max MacBook Pro: 70W or 96W Power Adapter depending on 14-or-16-core GPU; fast-charge capable with 96W charger or higher15-inch MacBook Pro: 87W Power Adapter16-inch MacBook Pro: 140W Power Adapter fast-charger FAQ 1.Can you use a charger with a higher wattage than your laptop?Yes, you can safely use a laptop charger with a higher wattage as the laptop will only ever draw the amount of power required at the time. If your laptop was supplied with a 35W charger it will never draw more than 35W unless being fast-charged, so you can use a 65W, 90W or higher charger. If the charger has multiple ports that extra juice will mean you can charge other devices at the same time.2.Can you use a charger with a lower wattage than your laptop? You can but you should try to avoid using a lower wattage charger than what your laptop requires. A 30W charger cant supply sufficient power for a 90W laptops needs. At the least, your laptop is likely to run out of power while you are using it. At the worst, you could damage the laptop or create dangerous problems for the charger. The under-powered charger wont have enough power to give to your laptop and it therefore has to work harder to try to match the needs of your laptop. The danger is that this can cause overheating and potentially fire. For more details read our explainer What wattage USB-C charger can you use to charge a MacBook?

Next generation CarPlay is missing in action as Apple fails to hit its own deadline
Back in 2022, Apple loudly talked up its next-generation CarPlay before quietly committing to it being released in 2024 and now it's saying nothing about having missed that deadline. The new CarPlay would take over all car information and entertainment functions image credit: AppleApple has always had a reputation for refusing to announce or even admit to something it was working on, until it was ready to ship. Yet when it gave what it called a sneak peek at the new CarPlay in 2022, it sounded as if it were ready."Automakers from around the world are excited to bring this new vision of CarPlay to customers," said Emily Schubert, Apple's Senior Manager of Car Experience Engineering at WWDC 2022. "Vehicles will start to be announced late next year, and we can't wait to show you more further down the road." Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

10 Video Games With The Best Endings In 2024
The medium of video games has proven to be a great place for storytelling, and a lot of that merit can be attributed to the interactive nature of it all. Video games can take you through the perils of adventure, put you against insurmountable odds, or treat you to fantastical worlds that make you feel like a living and breathing part of the story. And when done correctly, these stories hit unlike anything especially when the ending perfectly encapsulates that journey or throws an oddball to sweep any expectations off the floor. We have been pretty grateful this year for experiences that fall under this bracket, and to that effect here are 10 video games that were released this year and have fantastical endings. Please note there are major spoilers ahead!Black Myth WukongDeveloper Game Science produced a great action adventure in the form of Black Myth Wukong, taking the known narrative elements of the classic novel Journey to the West and crafting a thrilling sequence of memorable boss fights one after another. While the narrative beats follow a more traditional approach to storytelling, Black Myth delivers a fitting finale to the entire ordeal with a showdown against the Stone Monkey which is followed by a long sequence that puts an end to the tale of Wukong and his search for the Six Senses. Of course, there are multiple endings involved but each of them is equally emotional in its own right.

Can Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Deliver a Solid Action RPG Experience?
For RPG fans, 2024 has been an incredible year, to put it mildly. Regardless of which style of RPG you prefer, these last dozen months have had plenty on offer for everyone, and the majority of it has been excellent. Whether 2025 will continue that trend remains to be seen, but even so, a handful of titles are officially confirmed for the year that suggest theres going to be no shortage of great RPGs to play in the near-future- and in that list of games, few grab attention the way Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2does.The wait for a sequel toKingdom Come: Deliverancehas obviously been a long one. The first game in the series, releasing in 2018, may have had its fair share of rough edges, but it developed a sizeable fan following over time, having sold over 8 million units by November. That there would be a sequel at some point was never really in doubt, given that success, and now that that sequel is within touching distance, for fans of the original, the prospect of an iterative sequel that promises to build on its predecessors solid foundations while sanding off its rough edges is looking like an increasingly exciting one. That, in fact, is exactly how Warhorse Studios is describingKingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The studio says the upcoming open world action RPG is meant to be an evolution of established ideas, rather than something that reinvents the wheel. A more polished and fleshed out take on the first games formula that eliminates most of its jank and expands on its best ideas was exactly what many had been hopingKingdom Come: Deliverance 2would be, and sure enough, thats what Warhorse Studios is planning. That, of course, will mean thatthe game will offer a familiar experience in a number of ways- including some that not many would have expected. For instance, Henry returning as the protagonist and the game being a direct follow-up wasnt something everyone expected, though Warhorse Studios reasoning is easy enough to understand. With Henry set to return, the studio is promising a story that raises the stakes while also building on established narrative arcs and worldbuilding foundations. The result, according to the developer, is a more epic and sweeping story.Deliverance 2 is being billed as the story of how Henry continues his climb up the medieval social ladder from blacksmith to hero to beyond, his personal journey becoming increasingly tied to the larger politics of Central Bohemia, with the developer saying that the game will wrap up his tale. Those are all grand promises, if nothing else. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also boasts over five hours of cinematics, according to Warhorse, so clearly, the games placing plenty of emphasis on storytelling. And of course, player choice is going to have a big role to play in the storytelling department as well. Choice and consequence mechanics can be a difficult thing to pull off, but Warhorse Studios is promising a greater emphasis being placed on branching stories in the sequel. Quests will be more reactive, the story will throw players in situations where theyre required to make tough decisions more frequently, and the different choices you make over the course of your story will also have an impact on how everything culminates, with the game confirmed to feature multiple endings. Again, implementing meaningful player choice mechanics is much easier said than done, so it remains to be seen how wellDeliverance 2does here, but the promises made by the developer are certainly encouraging. As important as all of that is, however, arguably nothing aboutKingdom Come: Deliverance 2is going to be a bigger sell than its promise of an authentic open world setting that prioritizes immersion and realism above all else. Obviously, massive open worlds are a dime a dozen these days, and medieval European settings (or settings adjacent to that aesthetic) have been a thing in games for as long as anyone can remember. What is far less common are games that choose to eschew all forms of fantasy elements and cut down on gamified abstractions as much as possible, and that promise is exactly what makes Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2such a compelling prospect- potentially. Especially for all the virtual tourism buffs out there of which theres no shortage in gaming circles the games promise of a highly detailed recreation of 15th century Bohemia is one of its biggest selling points. On top of a continued devotion to diegetic realism, Deliverance 2is also looking to heighten its sense of immersion with the introduction of a new reputation system. Depending on player actions and the way you choose to play, Henry will develop different reputations among the denizens of the world, which, as you may imagine, will impact the way they will behave around him and react to his actions, and will, in turn, also impact the decisions that Henry himself will make. Im curious to know how much this will impact the main story, but even if it doesnt do that much but is still implemented well enough, it should, at the very least, help ground you in the games world, which, in a game such as this one, is supremely important. And yes, on top of all that,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2is promising to be a huge, sprawling experience. No longer crowd-funded and being developed on a larger budget and with a greater pool of resources all around,Deliverance 2is looking like a much bigger and more expansive game than its predecessor. Warhorse Studios saysthe game is going to be anywhere between 80-100 hours long, with a world twice as large as the first game (across two separate maps, no less, one of which also includes the large, dense city of Kuttenburg), while presumably, there will also be no shortage of side content on offer. Bang for your buck? Sure sounds like it.Of course,Deliverance 2is also going to have to make marked improvements in several key areas. The first games more eccentric tendencies were a big part of its identity, but some of them actively took away from the experience, like the survival mechanics or the saving system, so hopefullyDeliverance 2will be much smarter about how it implements those systems. Were also hoping for a significantly more technically stable and polished experience, because as anyone who played it will remember, the first game was a huge mess from a technical perspective when it originally launched. With enough quality of life changes and coats of polish,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2can be the game that its predecessor showed the promise to be, but didnt quite have the means to fulfil. The iterative improvements that the sequel is making are sounding encouraging, and that, combined with the inherently strong appeal of a sweeping open world action RPG that prioritizes realism, immersion, player freedom, and player choice can make for a special game. Whether all of those elements can come together cohesively and strike the exact right balance remains to be seen, but for now,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2certainly has our attention, at the very least.Note: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of, and should not be attributed to, GamingBolt as an organization.

New "DoubleClickjacking" Exploit Bypasses Clickjacking Protections on Major Websites
Jan 01, 2025Ravie LakshmananWeb Security / VulnerabilityThreat hunters have disclosed a new "widespread timing-based vulnerability class" that leverages a double-click sequence to facilitate clickjacking attacks and account takeovers in almost all major websites. The technique has been codenamed DoubleClickjacking by security researcher Paulos Yibelo."Instead of relying on a single click, it takes advantage of a double-click sequence," Yibelo said. "While it might sound like a small change, it opens the door to new UI manipulation attacks that bypass all known clickjacking protections, including the X-Frame-Options header or a SameSite: Lax/Strict cookie."Clickjacking, also called UI redressing, refers to an attack technique in which users are tricked into clicking on a seemingly innocuous web page element (e.g., a button), leading to the deployment of malware or exfiltration of sensitive data.DoubleClickjacking is a variation of this theme that exploits the gap between the start of a click and the end of the second click to bypass security controls and takeover accounts with minimal interaction.Specifically, it involves the following steps -The user visits an attacker-controlled site that either opens a new browser window (or tab) without any user interaction or at the click of a button. The new window, which can mimic something innocuous like a CAPTCHA verification, prompts the user to double-click to complete the step.As the double-click is underway, the parent site makes use of the JavaScript Window Location object to stealthily redirect to a malicious page (e.g., approving a malicious OAuth application)At the same time, the top window is closed, allowing a user to unknowingly grant access by approving the permission confirmation dialog."Most web apps and frameworks assume that only a single forced click is a risk," Yibelo said. "DoubleClickjacking adds a layer many defenses were never designed to handle. Methods like X-Frame-Options, SameSite cookies, or CSP cannot defend against this attack."Website owners can eliminate the vulnerability class using a client-side approach that disables critical buttons by default unless a mouse gesture or key press is detected. Services like Dropbox already employ such preventative measures, it has been found. As long-term solutions, it's recommended that browser vendors adopt new standards akin to X-Frame-Options to defend against double-click exploitation."DoubleClickjacking is a twist on a well-known attack class," Yibelo said. "By exploiting the event timing between clicks, attackers can seamlessly swap out benign UI elements for sensitive ones in the blink of an eye."The disclosure arrives nearly a year after the researcher also demonstrated another clickjacking variant called cross window forgery (aka gesture-jacking) that relies on persuading a victim to press or hold down the Enter key or Space bar on an attacker-controlled website to initiate a malicious action. On websites like Coinbase and Yahoo!, it could be abused to achieve an account takeover "if a victim that is logged into either site goes to an attacker website and holds the Enter/Space key.""This is possible because both sites allow a potential attacker to create an OAuth application with wide scope to access their API, and they both set a static and / or predictable 'ID' value to the 'Allow/Authorize' button that is used to authorize the application into the victim's account."Found this article interesting? Lucid Mattress Review: An Affordable Amazon Choice Mattress
7 /10 SCORE Our Verdict Our Verdict Best for: Combo sleeper Side sleeper Score Breakdown Performance 8 /10 Policies 7 /10 Durability 7 /10 Features 8.5 /10 Pros and Cons Pros Easy on your wallet Multiple firmness levels to suit all sleeping positions Memory foam perfect if you love a conforming feel Great motion isolation Best for people under 230 pounds Cons Resistance when combination sleepers try to switch positions Not ideal for people over 250 pounds Table of Contents It's usually easier to buy a mattress directly from its manufacturer and also get the best deal, but sometimes third-party retailers can also be great places to buy mattresses. One that's caught our eye is the Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattress. It's well-reviewed by buyers, with a 4.4-star rating and 20,000 reviews. On top of that, it's one of the most affordable mattresses I've ever tested. If you're looking for a great pick for a new memory foam mattress, I suggest you keep reading.Editors note: The Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattress has been updated with a new construction and renamed the Bamboo Charcoal Hybrid mattress. This review focuses on the Lucid Gel Memory Foam model. If youre looking for a close comparison to the original construction, we recommend the all-foam version of the Nectar Premier mattress or SweetNight Dreamy memory foam mattress. The 10-inch Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattress. My Slumber Yard First impressionsI honestly had low expectations for this mattress because it was so much cheaper compared to other foam beds I've tested (sorry, Lucid), but actually I was pleasantly surprised. I remember one foam mattress I purchased from Amazon years ago was just a slab of flimsy, exposed foam. This one is fit with a cover and you can pick how thick you want your Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattress to be for more or less support. The feel will differ slightly depending on the firmness you get, but either way, it feels like classic, sink-in memory foam. The question will be how far you sink into that memory foam. The softer the Lucid mattress was, the more I became nestled into the bed's foam layers.Amazon customer sentimentWith a rating of 4.4/5, the Lucid 10-inch mattress has overall positive customer reviews. Reviews mention that the mattress is more affordable than similar mattresses, easy to unbox, supportive and more comfortable than expected. Others mention that the mattress didn't provide proper support, and some say that the mattress was delivered in damaged boxes when they bought it through Amazon.Firmness Thankfully, you have three firmness options when it comes to choosing your Lucid mattress. I really appreciate when a brand makes a bed so versatile, because it gives you the chance to cater to your primary sleeping position. Here's how I'd rate the three firmness levels: Medium Plush: This is the softest mattress of them all and rated around a medium-soft or 3 out of 10 with 10 being the firmest. It's best for people who want maximum pressure relief. Medium: This sits around a medium or 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It's ideal for combination sleepers or people who want both pressure relief and support. Firm: This falls around medium-firm to firm or an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It's the most supportive, and good for back or stomach sleepers. Comfort You have the pick of the crop when it comes to how tall you want your Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattress to be. You can go with 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 14 inches. Here's is a breakdown of its happy-medium 10-inch model: A thick 7.5-inch layer of firm, dense foam, which is the bed's primary source of support.A 2.5-inch layer of memory foam with tiny little gel beads, meant to help regulate temperature, scattered throughout. The two layers inside the Lucid Gel Memory foam mattress My Slumber YardThe cover is thin and stretchy, and it doesn't fit tightly around the foam, but at least it's still on there. Unless you're a neat freak who needs flat and wrinkle-free sheets/bedding, this shouldn't be a problem for you. Feel This mattress has dense, slow-responding, pressure-relieving memory foam that will feel comfy to memory-foam lovers. I switch positions often when I sleep, so it makes it harder for me to pull myself out of the position I'm in into a new one. But, if you like that hugging, nestling feeling, I don't think you'll mind -- especially if you stay in one position for most of the night. Also, the firmer mattress model does help you stay more on top of the mattress than inside the foam layers. Motion isolation If there's one thing this bed excels at besides price, it's motion isolation. If you have a partner who gets up often in the middle of the night or moves around the mattress, the Lucid Gel Memory Foam bed is great at deadening the movement. Edge support The thicker your mattress the better edge support it will have, so I'd opt for the 12- or 14-inch model if it's something you're really serious about. The 10-inch model didn't perform great in this department, which is to be expected with a two-layer bed and the thinner models would feel even less supportive. Though, if it's not something you care about (i.e. you don't share a bed with anyone or you share a large, king size bed), the 10-inch model would be just fine. Temperature Lucid tries to help prevent its mattress from retaining heat as much as traditional memory foam used to do with the gel beads, but I wouldn't say it's a cold sleeping mattress by any means. It won't actively cool you down with technology in the bed's layers, nor does it have a cooling cover. So, in general, it won't make you sleep warmer if you're a cold sleeper, but it won't keep you cool if you're a hot sleeper. Who is this mattress best for? There are hundreds of different mattresses on the market and you can't expect them all to be perfect for you. Here's who I think will be most accommodated by this Lucid mattress. Position There are three different firmness levels available from Lucid, each one offering a little something different. Its Medium option will accommodate all sleeping positions because of its balanced firmness profile.Side sleepers who want a soft feel can opt for the Medium Plush and back or stomach sleepers who want a firmer mattress should go for the Firm bed for more support. In other words, this mattress does accommodate all sleeping positions. Zooey Liao/CNETBody typeI don't think the Gel Memory Foam mattress is supportive enough for someone who weighs over 230 pounds, if it's meant to be used as an everyday, long-term use mattress. If you want it in your guest bedroom, then that's OK. However, if you're plus-sized and want the most from your bed, I'd suggest a Lucid Hybrid mattress for its more supportive coils. Folks under 230 pounds, on the other hand, should be just fine on the Lucid Gel Memory Foam bed. Lucid mattress pricing SizeMeasurements (inches)Price Twin 38x75$209Twin XL 38x80$217Full 54x74$266Queen 60x80$343King 76x80$440Cal king 72x84$434 One of my favorite things about this mattress is its low price and how it competes with big budget-bed names like Tuft and Needle and Allswell. Prices vary depending on the firmness, height and size you choose (and prices fluctuate on Amazon often in general), but a queen-size, 10-inch-thick Lucid mattress will cost you around the $300 to $360 range through Amazon, which is hundreds of dollars cheaper than your average 10-inch bed-in-a-box mattress. Although, Lucid and many other mattress brands are lowering their prices for Cyber Monday. Check out our best mattress deals page to see what kind of promotions are happening. Shipping, trial, warranty Whether you have Amazon Prime or not, you'll receive free shipping on the Lucid mattress and it's backed by a 10-year warranty. Lucid doesn't offer a generous trial period like some other mattresses in a box, but it is eligible for return within Amazon's standard 30-day window. Returning the mattress to Amazon isn't the easiest, so I'd make sure you're positive on your purchase before you pull the trigger. Final verdict The Lucid Gel Memory Foam bed's prime audience is memory-foam fanatics on a tight budget who love the slow-responding, syrupy feeling it provides. This bed is offered in multiple firmness levels so side, back, stomach and combination sleepers under 230 pounds can all find a firmness level that's accommodating and comfy. I personally liked the Medium option because it was a nice balance between firm and soft, but it's nice that you can go on either side of the spectrum to best accommodate your own preferences. You can even choose a different height if you're looking for more (or less) support and durability. For the surprisingly low price point it offers, it's a quality choice for the right kind of sleepers. If You're Planning to Remodel This Year, AI Can Help
Whenever a new year rolls around, I imagine my future: picturesque settings in the form of beautiful, awe-inducing lands; minimalistic yet intentional design; and a squeaky-clean presence. Sometimesartificial intelligencecan help with putting an image to your hopes -- like a freshly designed bathroom.I was recently spending time in the Bay Area, in an Airbnb located in a three-story 1910s home tucked away in the corner of a second-floor en suite that was chosen for accessibility and affordability. I was prepared for the room to meet my basic needs, but I was still underwhelmed by its bathroom design and overwhelmed by its fluorescent lighting. As a digital nomad, I've spent many nights in various Airbnbs for various needs, ranging from last-minute stays to specific design-focused choices.Partly from imagination, partly from curiosity, I turned to Renovate AI, an app that uses AI and generative models to create and re-create design-driven worlds. For me, navigating to its site felt like entering a very specific corner of SimsNation, built for architecture and interior design enthusiasts and experts. After spending far too long staring at the moving blob on the homepage -- somewhere between a trance experience and an art therapy session -- I began the process of temporarily redesigning my temporary bathroom to test out whether you could genuinely use this app to get started on your home renovations. The original, underwhelming bathroom. Carly Quellman/CNET The Renovate AI process Upgrade your inbox Get cnet insider From talking fridges to iPhones, our experts are here to help make the world a little less complicated. Renovate AI has a free plan, and paid plans range from $8 to $60 per month. Since I planned to redesign only one space, I didn't miss out by not upgrading. However, if you're interested in interacting with the site beyond a trial run and plan on seriously using Renovate AI to help with ideas for more than one room, a paid plan is necessary to get the most out of the tool. Once I signed up and signed in, I toggled over to the Bathroom image as part of the Residential tab. (There are Exterior and Commercial tabs, too.) After a couple of attempts at capturing the entire space, I was able to upload the image of my Airbnb bathroom to the site. From here, I could decide the extent of my redesign, including Tweak, Enhance, Renovateand Transform. Since I was on the free plan, I had the option of using Renovate or Transform once before needing to upgrade. Renovate includes style themes and changes to layout, and it gives your space major furniture updates in hopes of crafting a fresh, new ambiance. Transform provides complete interior reinventions and provides structural modifications and design shifts that create an entirely new living environment. I stuck to Renovate. From here, there's an option to choose which room type you're redesigning, or you can have AI auto-detect based on the details within your image. I was excited about the next step, which is where you can add the style influences that artificial intelligence will use as a template for the redesign. I chose Japandi (Japanese mixed with Scandinavian), Zen and Urban styles. I imagined a bathroom design that oozed warmth, simplicity and refinement. The last three steps involve deciding if you'd like to preserve any objects from your photos, and choosing a color tone and descriptors to influence the AI-operated outcome. I added descriptors like minimalist, warm and refined. From here, I clicked the final button, which read Renovate, and waited for the newly generated image to appear. Renovate AI gave me three options based on my style choices and descriptor words. My favorite was the redesign that had warm lighting cascading over the mirror, and that contained paneling that enhanced the refined look I'd imagined. My favorite AI redesign of the bathroom -- though it did have some oddities. Created by Carly Quellman using Renovate AISure, it had some wonky features. A basket instead of a toilet, for one. A bamboo screen inside the shower for another (not sure how long that would last), and a circular rug that looks more like a platform or a lazy Susan. Definitely less dull, though -- and it'll point you in the direction of the vibe you're going for during your remodeling project. There isn't an option within the app for a "redo" (so I essentially had to stick with one of the three designs per my free plan), but for an initial trial run, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Even through the lens of artificial intelligence, good or upgraded design can truly make a space feel bigger. Who should use Renovate AI? Design can be grueling to learn if it's not your area of expertise, so I appreciate how artificial intelligence can broaden the range of users to include people who have no design experience but do have a desire to be immersed in design's possibilities. I've always had a hard time nailing down what kind of design type I like, so I was immediately excited when I found a platform that offered the capability to "redesign" a space in response to a picture upload and a "style" choice. (Who doesn't like to look at visually stimulating things?) Whether you're someone like me, who simply wants to reimagine their Airbnb, or someone who's looking to remodel a room or their entire house, in my opinion Renovate AI is thoughtful and inclusive.Besides design "renovations," the platform also offers virtual staging and 3D renders, along with the ability to change interior and exterior paint colors and to upscale blurry images.I imagine that if someone like me enjoyed the experience of such a tool, folks in the industry would find it fascinating if for nothing more than insight into how design choices influence data, or to quickly get a feel for different designs.I'm all in on something that can help refine or organize a process and strengthen communication in a visually stimulating way. All to reimagine any world, in seconds. Isn't that what dreaming is all about?
