3D Artist Has Recreated Warcraft III’s Original Intro Using 3ds Max

Alireza Akhbariarabani, a Senior Generalist and 3D Animator, has paid tribute to Blizzard’s legendary Warcraft III and its original 2009 intro, presenting a great recreation of the 15-year-old cinematic described by the artist himself as a “remaster.”

Created as a side project, the recreation’s main goal was to honor the past while advancing Alireza’s artistic skills and to thank the original creators for inspiring his generation. The best part is, the creator utilized 3ds Max to set up his remaster, the very same software Blizzard used 15 years ago, along with a suite of other tools such as ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Houdini, Terragen, Arnold, Ornatrix, and Nuke.

“The Warcraft III opening cinematic was a defining moment for me,” comments Alireza. “When I first saw it, I was captivated by its storytelling, atmosphere, and artistry. It left such a lasting impression that I dreamed of one day remastering it myself. I finally started that journey, not just as a tribute to the incredibly talented team behind the original, but as a way to challenge myself.”

Besides the cinematic itself, the author has also shared a video breakdown showcasing the production process behind the project:
