Skype is an important page of modern lives, or at least it was, as the time has come to let the app retire.
As reported by XDA, Microsoft left a message in the latest Skype for Windows preview that says, “Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available. Continue your calls and chats in Teams.” The note is followed by a number of your friends who have already moved to Teams.

“Microsoft has decided to discontinue Skype after more than 20 years of service. The company is encouraging users to switch to Microsoft Teams for their communication needs. This decision is part of Microsoft’s strategy to streamline its communication tools and focus on Teams, which offers more integrated features for both personal and professional use,” the company commented.
This farewell is not that surprising, especially after COVID-19, which offered a bucnh of many other communication programs to the whole world, which had to find new ways to connect, and Skype – sorry – was not the most convenient.
The app was launched in 2003 and acquired by Microsoft in 2011. The company then released Teams in 2017, and Skype became that awkward friend no one knows what to do about, especially after Windows 11 shipped with Teams integration.
With Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, and many other programs offering comfortable solutions, Skype just can’t compete, so maybe it’s for the best we leave it as a fond memory. Goodnight, Skype, we will remember you.
