Take a look at this clip from Sword of the Sea by Giant Squid, an upcoming atmospheric adventure inspired by skateboarding games.
In the game, the main character explores a stunning surreal world reminiscent of Dune, which features shifting seas of sand, lava, and ice. The terrain there flows in waves, and the character hovers on a floating sword and discovers mysteries of the place, such as the remnants of an ancient culture, shipwrecks, and battlefields. The main task is to unveil a lost ocean hidden under the terrain.
The smooth and graceful mechanics of the hovering sword, inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding games, create a unique and immersive experience. “Where surfing meets mystical exploration,” as the developers describe it.
Sword of the Sea features a rich story, which, however, is told via color, light, and music rather than dialogue. The narrative is accompanied by fantastic music by a renowned film and video game composer Austin Wintory.
