Baldur’s Village Mod Team
When an official crossover seems unlikely in the near future, some mods that let players enjoy our beloved games with new perspectives and characters become so welcome. Baldur’s Village is such one, whose name clearly tells what it does: it adds more than 20 characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 to Pelican Town, the world of Stardew Valley.
When it was released earlier this month, it gained not only praise from players but also from Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke, who called it “amazing work” with so much love poured into this mod. However, it wasn’t live for long, as it was taken offline following a DMCA notice from Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro that has the rights for Dungeons & Dragons.
You can imagine the community’s backlash to the takedown. Swen Vincke also raised his eyebrows with this piece of news. He shared his personal opinion, saying such “quality mods”, free of charge, actually are “a unique form of word of mouth” and “shouldn’t be treated like commercial ventures that infringe on your property.”
Soon, another turning point came. A few hours after the removal, WoTC changed their attitude, with a spokesperson telling PC Gamer that the takedown was not intended; it was a mistake, and they apologized.
“The Baldur’s Village DMCA takedown was issued mistakenly—we are sorry about that. We are in the process of fixing that now so fans and the Stardew community can continue to enjoy this great mod!”
By the time this article is written, the mod’s page has not been restored yet, although this is expected to happen soon. If you’d like to enjoy the unique crossover between the two beloved titles, don’t hesitate to check it out here.
