The Silent Hill 2 remake is full of deep messages, both obvious and hidden, and if you’ve played it, you might have wondered what the Polaroid photos scattered around mean. One player has finally cracked the code and uncovered what Bloober Team wanted to say.
It will be a little spoilery, so come back when you’ve finished the game if you haven’t.

Each photo has a caption, and Reddit user DaleRobinson figured out that the key is in the number of objects in the picture. The first, for example, has 6 opened windows and the phrase “SO MANY PEOPLE HERE!” The 6th letter here is Y, and following this logic, DaleRobinson revealed the final message: “YOUVE BEEN HERE FOR TWO DECADES.”
Seeing it spelled out makes James and Mary’s storyline feel a little heavier. Still, this discovery is yet another unsolved puzzle in the game, which Bloober Team thought was too difficult, according to its Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart.
“I knew it wouldn’t stay hidden for long! (There was a theory in our company that the puzzle might be too hard) I really wanted to make it subtle when I was painting those photos… I think the timing couldn’t be better for you to solve it. Congratulations!” he said.
The Silent Hill 2 remake was released on October 7 this year, and while some old-school fans hated everything about it to the point they endlessly edited its Wiki page straight up lying about its ratings, the game was received really well and now has “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam.
