New Creative Director Assigned to Star Wars Outlaws

Ubisoft

The first-ever open-world game set in the Star Wars universe has seen a lukewarm reception since its September launch, resulting in a sharp drop in Ubisoft’s share price to its lowest point since 2015. Although it was not a total failure, as it still managed to score 6 or 7 out of 10 on most review platforms, it’s far from satisfying for the developer who is desperate for a speedy recovery.

After three Title updates were introduced, Ubisoft has planned the first Dev Update for Star Wars Outlaws titled “Pushing into hyperdrive”, which specifies the upcoming major updates. The update also announces that the game now welcomes a new creative director, Drew Rechner, who took over the role from Julian Gerighty.

After some reflection on the launch and appreciation for the community’s support, the new leader continues to illustrate the key areas of improvement the team is working on, including combats, stealth, and character controls. The new creative director promises that players will “see more details about how we will be celebrating and embracing player choice more than ever before.”

All the promised improvements will come along with Title Update 1.4, which will be released on November 21, together with the game’s Steam launch and the first story pack, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card.

Drew Rechner

Drew Rechner is a Ubisoft veteran, as his LinkedIn profile shows that he joined Ubisoft more than a decade ago, in February 2014, and became a Creative Director at Massive Entertainment at the beginning of this year. As for Julian Gerighty’s new journey, according to Games Radar+, it was announced in September that he would take on the role of executive producer on The Division, which could probably be The Division 3, the second sequel in the Division franchise that Ubisoft quietly announced last year.
