Project Archipelago, Rebellion’s multiplayer Battle Royale game set in the Sniper Elite universe, has reportedly been canceled after Tencent stopped offering funding.
According to Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson, although no specific reason has been given, some managers have hinted that the harsh failure of Sony’s Concord has caused Tencent to lose confidence in some of its projects, including Archipelago, and decided to stop providing financial support.
The project, internally called “Sniper Island,” features three-player teams competing to be the last one to survive. It was only announced in August this year, with a three-day pre-Alpha PC Playtest arranged around that time and a trailer that showcased its gameplay. The reaction from players, as proved by the comments below the video, seems lukewarm, as most players were hoping more for the Zombie Army 5 or Sniper Elite 6.
Other than this canceled project, Rebellion is developing a single-player action game, Atomfall, which is inspired by real-life events from the 1950s. The game was unveiled in August during this year’s Gamescom and is scheduled to be released in March 2025. You can wishlist it here. Meanwhile, Sniper Elite: Resistance, a standalone game in the Sniper Elite series, is coming on January 30, 2025.
