Game Science CEO Feng Ji has recently addressed fans on the social media platform Weibo. In a brief message, the manager mentioned being “emotional” after Black Myth: Wukong won three awards at The Steam Awards 2024, though he admitted the result didn’t surprise him much.
CEO acknowledged the game’s fans and remarked that only Xbox is missing, hinting at why Black Myth isn’t available on Microsoft platforms.
“The only thing missing is the XBOX,” wrote the developer. “It seems a bit inappropriate, but with the 10G shared memory, without several years of optimization experience, it is really difficult to use it.”
Black Myth: Wukong
It is safe to say that the development team faced optimization challenges for the Xbox Series S, which features 10 GB of RAM. Back in 2023, Larian Studios similarly delayed the Xbox release of Baldur’s Gate 3 and then released it with no split-screen coop on Series S. Usually, Microsoft requires feature parity on X and S, but they made an exception that time.
Previously, Game Science announced an indefinite delay of the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong due to optimization problems. In November, Phil Spencer stated that he knows when Black Myth will arrive on Xbox but couldn’t disclose the date.
In other Black Myth: Wukong news, the game’s director said he wasn’t sure about the criteria of GOTY in a lengthy letter published after the game missed the award. An acceptance speech was written two years ago but never got the chance to be delivered at this year’s TGA.
