Mateusz Lenart, the director of Bloober Team’s successful Silent Hill 2 Remake, shared during an interview with Bonfire Conversations that they might had a pitch for a fantasy horror game based on the Lord of the Rings.
It appears they discussed something related to The Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion. He noted, though, that the task would be challenging because Tolkien’s world is kind of black and white. He also added that crafting a horror story in a fantasy world is a separate challenge.
“I don’t say we didn’t pitch ideas around that. Even based on the Silmarillion. Obviously, you know, the world that was created by Tolkien is very black and white in many, many ways. So, creating a physiological horror in this world might be a challenge for us. It’s not super easy. At the same time, creating a horror in a fantasy world is another challenge. This is definitely something that can be done, but that’s another layer of challenge,” said Lenart.
We have seen numerous games based on the franchise, from adaptations of Peter Jackson’s movie trilogy to Monolith’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and, more lately, a game about Gollum. What could a horror game in the universe look like? Well, we probably shouldn’t touch one particular character and his precious shiny thingy.
