Behind the Scenes: Robotic Barista

Behind the Scenes: Robotic Barista

INTRODUCTION

Hi, I’m Kareem Radwan, a 3D artist from Egypt.

Six years ago, my 3D journey began when I needed to design a home for my pet rabbit. With no prior knowledge, I started with SketchUp. As I crafted the rabbit’s abode, my passion for drawing and sculpting merged seamlessly with 3D design. Unaware of its future impact, I delved deeper, learning Blender, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, ZBrush, and Cinema 4D.

Recently, I started using Blender 3D, grateful for its versatility. This transition marked a significant step, offering a wealth of creative possibilities. My journey, from rabbit hutches to professional 3D, reflects a transformative evolution fueled by curiosity and dedication.

INSPIRATION

I’m a coffee lover, and I own an espresso machine. However, making a cup of coffee manually requires time and effort. This sparked the idea of creating a robotic coffee maker project. It’s a personal challenge for me to delve into animation and fluid simulation within Blender.

PROCESS

Tools:

  • Blender
  • Substance Painter
  • Adobe Premiere
  • FlipFluid

Breakdown:

Texture

I tried to make the texture realistic and simulate a futuristic environment, and this was done using Substance Painter.

Liquid Simulation

It has been challenging to simulate fluids and make them blend like real espresso. However, using the Flip Fluid add-on and the MixBox feature has been beneficial.

Video Editing

The last thing was to compile the video and the final touches, which were done on Adobe Premiere.

Speakers

I used speakers for the scene in Blender to make the sound source realistic.

And that’s it! Below are the final renders and the animation.
