Blizzard Brings Back Nostalgic Gaming Experience with Overwatch: Classic

Blizzard Brings Back Nostalgic Gaming Experience with Overwatch: Classic

Blizzard

Blizzard announced a mode in Overwatch 2 where you can “relive the nostalgia” and experience the original heroes, abilities, maps, and the 6v6 mode. It is called Overwatch: Classic and is a limited-time event available from November 12 to December 2.

The mode is a series of events, each featuring beloved moments from the game’s history and recreating the heroes, maps, and overall gameplay of the original events, balancing them “with other exciting new gameplay.”

For instance, the first event takes us back to the original 1.0 release dated May 2016, with its 21 heroes and 12 maps. Four original hero classes, Offense, Defense, Tanks, and Supports, will appear in the mode. However, the maps will look like they do in Overwatch 2 game modes. Thus, Dorado, Numbani, Route 66, and Watchpoint: Gibraltar will be reworked. Features like match timing and elevator platforms’ work will still appear similar to Overwatch 2.

Bringing the 6v6 in Overwatch: Classic, however, doesn’t mean that this game mode will return to the series. As stated by Blizzard, Overwatch: Classic is “separate from the broader 6v6 plans” and “meant to be a nostalgic experience.” It is not a way of testing the 6v6 mode as well, as Blizzard runs separate 6v6 test modes in future seasons to collect feedback on the format. Recently, the developer announced that Season 14, starting on December 10, will feature two different 6v6 tests.
