Cyber Rats: A Survival Horror Where You’re A Lab Rat Trapped In An AI-Controlled Facility

Professional Animator and Game Developer Ronnie Ree, an industry veteran with over 20 years of experience who has created an excellent UE5 procedural dungeon tutorial on YouTube, is no stranger to us.
Recently, he released an announcement trailer showcasing the core gameplay for an upcoming game titled Cyber Rats. A friendly reminder here: you can breathe while watching and no need to hold your breath like me until the “Who’s next” text shows up:

Besides showing the gameplay, the trailer is more or less a collection of brutal ways to die, with a challenge request sent to you at the end. In this rogue-lite survival horror, players control rats to navigate through deadly mazes filled with the bodies of fellows in a test facility controlled by evil AI.
The world around is a “constantly shifting labyrinth” since the maze is procedurally generated, so you won’t go through the same paths, and you’ll never know what’s hidden in those dark shadows.
The goal here is to find cheese and survive the mazes. That means avoiding a variety of traps, such as spinning blades that can turn you into minced meat, a fire trap that’ll burn you into a skeleton in one second, or a gigantic tail-like hammer that suddenly reaches down from the ceiling. In the process, you’ll be able to unlock new, twisted rat experiments, zombie rats, cyborg rats, and mutants and upgrade to give them the necessary edge to escape.

Cyber Rats is scheduled to be dropped in Q3 this year. It’s just announced, and more in-game footage and clips can be expected to be updated on the developer’s X/Twitter. Also, don’t forget that the first step to this journey as a cyber rat is to wishlist the game on Steam.
