During a recent podcast, Mark Cecere, a former Eidos-Montréal writer, shared original plot details prepared for the sequel to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Mark Cecere is known for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Human Revolution, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Watch Dogs: Legion. He recently participated in a podcast hosted by From Script to Life. Cecere worked at Eidos-Montréal for 10 years as a Senior Script Writer/Narrative Designer and left Eidos in 2018. At some point, the writer tried to get back to the project to help finish Jensen’s story, but things didn’t go well.
Now, what would happen according to the original plans? Adam Jensen would not have been able to completely defeat the Illuminati but would have come closer to doing so.
Jensen’s actions could have influenced Bob Page’s rise to become the sinister and powerful villain players encountered in the original Deus Ex game. The creators wanted to connect the two eras of the franchise: concluding Jensen’s story arc while launching a series of events leading to the world of 2052 depicted in the classic Deus Ex.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Last year, we reported Eidos Montréal had lost 97 employees as part of Embracer Group’s restructuring campaign. The studio’s new Deus Ex game was subsequently canceled. It appears that we’re not getting back to the Adam Jensen story anytime soon. Let’s just hope we can return to this augmented world one day.
