This might look like footage of a real Xbox controller, but this is actually a 3D model created by Piotr Bieryt, or McGavish, Technical Artist at CD PROJEKT RED and CEO of the 3D scanning company INVOLV3D, using photogrammetry and Blender.
Photogrammetry has been getting more popular in recent years, but scans usually lack little details, so the model Bieryt showcased is extra impressive, with even the tiny grain on the plastic visible in great accuracy.
“Photogrammetry often struggles with pixel-perfect alignment on these kinds of objects, but we’ve developed methods to make it work. Still, always room for improvement!”
