VFX Grace has presented a hyper-realistic German Shepherd model, which consists of six objects: body, paws, lacrimal glands, pupils, teeth, and tongue. It is designed for animation projects and features detailed 4K maps, rigging, animation, and fur.
The model is created in Blender at a real-world scale and rendered by Cycles and is available in both Blender project and OBJ file formats. It contains several loopable animations: running, trotting, and walking, as well as an unlooped yelping animation. Thanks to the full rigging controls, it’s easy to create various postures and animations.
The fur is set to Render instead of Display, so it can run more quickly, but it can be toggled to Display if needed. The body and fur maps are separated in UDIM format to enhance realism.
Notably, while achieving a highly realistic close-up effect, the detailed fur may increase the rendering time. The creator suggests that for distant views, consider optimizing the fur by reducing the number of hair children and increasing hair thickness or decreasing the steps of the interpolated spine.
