Inspired by Jordan Peele’s Nope, Senior 3D Artist Mikael Ilnaes set out to recreate a flying saucer in 3D, experimenting with a blend of realistic materials and a hand-painted comic style. He shared the progress of the project through several videos, including this satisfying timelapse above.
Mikael Ilnaes revealed that he used only the standard brush with a few adjustments. He started by adding a black fill layer with a black mask, then added a paint layer on top and began painting. The fill layer has a small negative height adjustment, which gives the lines a slightly carved appearance.
