It’s been a week since It Takes Two developer Hazelight Studios’ new co-op adventure Split Fiction was launched, and the rejoicing developer announced two major sales milestones: one million copies sold in just two days and two million in its first week.
Split Fiction reached 259,000 concurrent players on Steam at its peak, which is much higher than It Takes Two’s 71,000 and A Way Out’s 8,500. Also, it won a stunning 91 Metascore based on 92 reviews, which is the highest-rated game of this year so far. It has not only become the biggest title by concurrent players among all titles published by the EA Originals label, but also helps break an embarrassing record for its publisher to not have a released game with over 90 scores in the past 13 years.
Although the official number did not specify the makeup of players, data suggests that the new game is gaining popularity similar to another beloved title from the studio, the 2021 Game of the Year It Takes Two. In fact, half of the 23 million copies sold of It Takes Two came from Chinese players. For Split Fiction, the percentage seems to be even higher, it is estimated by Gamalytic that around 60% of its sales are from Chinese-speaking players.

With GTA 6 also coming later this year, Game Director Josef Fares believes it would be “tough” for Split Fiction to acquire that golden trophy of Game Of the Year, yet, this release to both commercial and critical successes might guarantee tickets to the big award event.
