Here is Why Black Ops 6’s Movements Are Not Fast-Paced As You Expect

Activision

The complaints about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are not only about the Ranked Play cheaters ruining the multiplayer mode but also the game’s movement has become obviously “slow and clunky,” especially compared with Modern Warfare 2019, whose movement mechanics are both fast-paced and smooth.

Matt Scronce, the associate director of design at Treyarch, came out and offered an explanation of why it happened.

“Once prone and crouch speeds become too fast, you end up with mismatch between 1st and 3rd person POV leading to ‘snaking’ which has been a massive problem in the past.” Scronce first explained the issues that were caused by movements being too fast. He then added: “Faster is not always healthier for the overall game experience.”

Scronce’s explanation was a reply to a fan who tries to understand the developers’ logic of making core movement mechanics “super slow and cause absurd weapons [to] sway” despite introducing the new mechanics omnimovement, which gives players “the ability to utilize familiar Call of Duty movement mechanics, but now in any direction.” Obviously,  not everyone has been enjoying this new addition.

Scronce noted that Treyarch made some changes to the sway and bob mechanics when jumping as they brought this new feature:

“…when we intentionally designed omnimovement mechanics, we adjusted sway/bob when jumping by default to ensure that wasn’t the most effective tactic during engagements.”

If you are also one of the players who feel it’s hard to get used to the movement changes in BO6, I hope Scronce’s explanation helps clear your concern. If not, you can pass the feedback to him on Twitter, as the studio is “always looking at feedback … in order to continue making improvements.”
