As the artist explained, this transport design was created for GALAHAD 3093, a mech-based hero shooter set in a sci-fi future inspired by Arthurian legend, which never made it into the final game. In the game, the plan was for the mech to be dropped from a height and use its jets to slow the fall, providing a workaround to hide the map loading times.
Mike took on this project to learn SubD modeling and create a polished, functional 3D model for his portfolio with a strong focus on physics. The process took several months and really challenged him to figure out the plausibility limits, which you can skip or not overly focus on during the concept stage.
