Monsters Running Away in Monster Hunter Wilds’ Beta Was a Bug

Monsters in the open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds frequently running away was a bug that had already been fixed, as Game Director Yuya Tokuda explained.

Monster Hunter Wilds, CAPCOM’s story of monsters and humans struggling to live in harmony, was available in open beta at the end of October and the beginning of November 2024. The game was well-received, although probably the most repeating issue was that monsters often ran away, breaking the flow of combat. Game Director Yuya Tokuda explained (via VGC) that it was a bug and it was not intended:

“The fact is that the Open Beta test was an earlier version that actually had some bugs in it, and one of them was that the monsters were moving more often than intended.”

Tokuda said that the bug had already been fixed: “So we’ve gone ahead and fixed that bug, so we’ve now seen since the Beta test lots of feedback, and that and many other things are being improved for the final game, and also just the general processing of how monsters decide where to go next and what to do – that’s being refined towards the full game.” He also stated that the final version of the game would not have the same issues as the beta test.

Monster Hunter Wilds was initially announced in 2023, and its release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC is planned for the next February.
