If you’re among the many Titanfall fans eagerly awaiting any news about Titanfall 3 – or any game within the universe – it looks like you’ll have to wait a while longer, as new evidence suggests that series creator Respawn Entertainment has canceled one of its upcoming projects, which could very well have been a new Titanfall game.
Respawn
The evidence comes from a now-deleted LinkedIn post by former Respawn Product Coordinator Emilee Evans, first discovered by The Game Post, revealing that she was laid off following the cancellation of the studio’s incubation project, which hasn’t been formally announced. “The unannounced incubation project I was a part of for the past year was canceled this week, so I am joining the group of extremely talented and kind people in the games industry searching for a new role,” Evans wrote in her post.
With the project itself kept tightly under wraps – a notion reaffirmed by Evans quickly deleting her post – the only piece of information regarding it was a job posting from May 2024, suggesting that the incubation project was a multiplayer first-person shooter. This, along with reports from March last year, led many to believe that the project was the rumored Titanfall game, possibly Titanfall 3, but more likely a spin-off set in the same universe. The 80 Level team has reached out to Respawn for clarification on the project’s fate, but given the level of secrecy surrounding it, an answer may not come anytime soon.
If true, the project’s shutdown would continue the disheartening trend of AAA studios canceling their games before they were even announced to the public. Just last week, Wizards of the Coast’s Skeleton Key scrapped its work-in-progress title, while The Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance Studios laid off most of its developers, leaving the current status of its unannounced project unknown. Prior to that, Sony shut down two unannounced live-service games in development at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, including one allegedly set in the God of War universe.
