Testing Animated Instances In Large Forest Scene With Houdini’s Solaris & Karma


José Molfino, whose cool lava lamp-inspired Houdini simulation created with COPs we shared the other day, has now revealed the results of his latest instancing workflow test. This huge realistic forest scene, powered by nirfse3D’s Simple Tree Tools, features 1,500 animated tree instances, each with 45,000 instanced leaves and 20,000 instanced plants.

To push Karma a bit further, José added a VDB skybox with mist and fog effects. The scene renders at around 2 minutes per frame on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and uses around 10-11 GB of VRAM, which is quite high.
