Bella Ramsey plays Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us, and with the show expected to end after Season 3 or Season 4, Ramsey is considering the future. It remains to be seen what roles Ramsey might take on after The Last of Us, but Ramsey is keen to play a non-Ellie-type character.
“I haven’t got any specific ideas in mind, but I just want to make sure that the future characters I play feel different to Ellie,” Ramsey told The Hollywood Reporter. “Not because I don’t love playing Ellie, but I want to have a new challenge. I want to be scared of a project and a character and not know whether I can do it–that’s the dream.”
Prior to The Last of Us, Ramsey played Lyanna Mormont on HBO’s Game of Thrones and Angelica on another HBO series, His Dark Materials. In terms of upcoming projects, Ramsey is set to appear in the movies Harmonia and Monstrous Beauty. Ramsey’s role in Monstrous Beauty is indeed quite different from Ellie, as Ramsey plays a woman born into poverty with a condition causing her to be entirely covered in hair.
The Last of Us is currently in the middle of Season 2, having just aired its second episode in which a major twist from The Last of Us: Part II was adapted for the show. The series has been renewed for a third season, which will continue adapting the events of the game.
HBO management has said The Last of Us could end after Season 4, but given that there are no plans to adapt events beyond the games, it remains to be seen what stories it might adapt. Naughty Dog has said The Last of Us: Part III could happen, but only if the stars align.
New episodes of The Last of Us air Sundays at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET on HBO and Max.
