Have a look at this impressive 3D take on the main protagonist from the 2003 epic war movie The Last Samurai, Nathan Algren, portrayed by Tom Cruise, created by a talented 3D Character Artist Bryan Soegondo.
Paying homage to one of the artist’s favorite Tom Cruise films, the project has been in production for the past couple of months, with the armor, as Bryan noted, being one of its more time-consuming aspects.
In terms of software, the creator used ZBrush for sculpting, Substance 3D Painter for texturing, Texturing XYZ’s VFace for skin displacements, Arnold for rendering, and DaVinci Resolve for grading, with Blender being used for additional tasks. As the artist mentioned, this project was a great opportunity to practice hard-surface modeling and sculpting, areas Bryan typically avoids in his works.
Speaking of Bryan’s other works, earlier, the artist also showcased outstanding digital versions of Audrey Hepburn, Christopher Walken as MGS’s Solid Snake, and Marilyn Monroe:
