  • Netflix showed off new trailers for Knives Out 3 and del Toro’s Frankenstein

At its now-annual Tudum event, Netflix revealed new trailers for some of its more anticipated feature films.

That includes the very first teaser for Guillermo del Toro’s live-action take on Frankenstein, which stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. It starts streaming in November, and is the latest project for del Toro on Netflix, following a stop motion Pinocchio and his anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities.

Also at the show was Wake Up Dead Man, the third entry in the Knives Out murder-mystery series, and a follow-up to 2022’s Glass Onion. Director Rian Johnson and star Daniel Craig return, and they’re once again joined by an all-star cast. That includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

Along with the very brief teaser trailer, Netflix confirmed when Wake Up Dead Man will be streaming: December 12th.

Going in a completely different direction was latest trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the follow-up to the Adam Sandler comedy from way back in 1996. The sequel will be one of Netflix’s big swings for this summer. It streams on July 25th.

And if you haven’t seen enough of Squid Game’s third season, we also got one more trailer ahead of its premiere on June 27th, which will mark the end of the series.

And to round out the night, here are the first six minutes of the first episode for season 2 of Wednesday, which streams on August 6th.

  • fxpodcast: Chefs of data – Etoile and machine learning

On this episode of the fxpodcast, we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the visual effects work for Amazon’s Étoile, featuring an in-depth discussion with David Gaddie from Afterparty VFX. The team undertook the challenging face replacement work for the show’s ballet dancers, employing cutting-edge AI technology to seamlessly blend lead actors’ faces onto the performances of professional dance doubles.

Étoile, the latest series from Amy Sherman-Palladino, renowned creator of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Gilmore Girls, centers on elite ballet dancers. To realize this vision, the show’s VFX supervisor, Lesley Robson Foster, engaged Afterparty VFX to research and develop innovative AI-driven solutions capable of handling the demanding visual complexities inherent in ballet sequences.

This task was notably difficult, as traditional deepfake tools are typically optimized for straightforward, frontal shots. Ballet, however, involves rapid spinning, flips, significant motion blur, and hair frequently obscuring faces, creating immense technical hurdles. Additionally, director Amy Sherman-Palladino preferred long, uninterrupted takes, some lasting nearly a full minute, eliminating conventional editing methods and cheats used to mask transitions between the actors and their dance doubles. Crucially, the final shots needed to authentically reflect the actors’ performances, rather than simply showcasing their doubles.
In this episode, we explore in-depth how David Gaddie and the Afterparty VFX team developed proprietary solutions tailored specifically to these unique challenges. Their process combined computer-generated imagery, advanced AI, meticulous data segmentation, extensive manual refinements, and significant artistic skill to achieve convincing, performance-driven visual effects.

    StickApple TV+
Owen Wilson stars in this sports comedy that sounds like a mix of Ted Lasso and Happy Gilmore. He’s Pryce Cahill in Stick, a former professional golfer whose career ended decades ago, long before he was ready to throw in the proverbial clubs. With his life in shambles, Pryce gains a reignited flame for the sport and puts all his golf balls into the basket of a rising young player named Santi, who he believes he can turn into a star.
Marc Maron and Judy Greer are among its main cast, with Timothy Olyphant in a guest role. Wilson serves as executive producer. Stick consists of 10 episodes, with the first three premiering at once before a weekly release schedule. Whether or not this comedy ranks among the best shows on Apple TV+ remains to be seen, but the cast and the premise, albeit one that’s been done time and time again, could be a winning formula.

IronheartWalt Disney Studios Motion PicturesThe foray of the Marvel Cinematic Universeinto television continues with Ironheart, the 14th series produced by Marvel Studios and the latest in the overall canon that links them all together. Following the events in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Dominique Thorne reprises her role as Riri Williams. Now an MIT student, Riri returns home and deals with conflicts in technology and magic. As fans will recall, in the 2022 movie, Riri created her own Iron Man-like suit of armor, proving that she’s a downright genius.
With just six episodes in the short series, Ironheart will complete Phase Five of the MCU. Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, and Alden Ehrenreich also star, while several others, including Sacha Baron Cohen, have undisclosed roles.

Cue the ominous music as Squid Game is back for its third and final season. While it was a long wait between seasons 1 and 2, it has only been six months since season 2 premiered, which ended with a devastating cliffhanger. The South Korean dystopian survival thriller centers around a sick and twisted game that pits desperate people against one another in deadly versions of classic children’s games to win a huge cash prize. Serving as social commentary on capitalism and class disparity, Squid Game runs deeper than the violence.
Season 2 left off with Seong Gi-hunrallying players to fight back. But unbeknownst to him, his new friend Hwang In-hois the Front Man, the mastermind who runs the entire operation. It will be an exciting conclusion to the story that was only intended to be a single season long. But the incredible reception led to these two final seasons that will bring justice, heartache, or likely both.

Morris, the Movie Star Alligator Who Appeared in ‘Happy Gilmore,’ Dies of Old Age
Based on his growth rate and tooth loss, the 640-pound gator was estimated to be at least 80. He starred in movies and TV shows between 1975 and 2006

After starring in numerous movies and television shows, Morris retired in 2006 and lived out his final days at the Colorado Gator Farm.

Morris, the alligator who starred in Happy Gilmore and numerous other movies and TV shows, has died.
In an announcement from the Colorado Gator Farm, where the beloved 640-pound reptile had lived for the last two decades, caretakers say the cause of death was “old age.”
“He started acting strange about a week ago. Wasn’t lunging at us and wasn’t taking food,” says Jay Young, the farm’s owner and operator, while tearfully petting Morris’ head in a video posted on Facebook.
Morris was nearly 11 feet long at the time of his death, according to another post the Colorado Gator Farm shared on Facebook. Based on his growth rate and tooth loss, Young estimates the gator was at least 80 years old.
“While we knew this was inevitable, we are very saddened by his passing,” the Colorado Gator Farm writes.
Morris was rescued from a Los Angeles backyard, where he was being kept as an illegal pet. He began his prolific career in 1975 and kept working until his retirement in 2006. His TV and film credits include Interview With the Vampire, Dr. Dolittle 2, Blues Brothers 2000, “Coach,” “Night Court” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” reports Thomas Peipert of the Associated Press.
But he’s perhaps best known for Happy Gilmore, the 1996 comedy starring Adam Sandler as a down-on-his-luck hockey player who discovers his powerful golf swing. After Gilmore hits a shot in a tournament, Morris grabs his golf ball with his mouth. Gilmore confronts the alligator.
“Give me my ball! Give it here!” he shouts, while waving his golf club in the alligator’s face.
Morris responds by snapping his jaws a few times. After Gilmore tries unsuccessfully to grab the ball from the alligator’s gaping mouth, he sees the creature is missing one eye. Gilmore realizes it’s the same gator that bit off the hand of his mentor, Derick “Chubbs” Peterson.
When Morris sprints into a nearby pond, Gilmore follows. After a brief tussle, Gilmore retrieves his ball from the gator’s mouth and holds it above his head as the crowd cheers.
Later, he presents the alligator’s head to Chubbs, who is so shocked he falls backward through an open window to his death.
On May 14, Sandler posted a tribute to Morris on Instagram.“You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers—really anyone with arms or legs—but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film,” the actor wrote in a caption accompanying a still from the movie. “The day you wouldn’t come out of your trailer unless we sent in 40 heads of lettuce taught me a powerful lesson: Never compromise your art.”
He added: “I will miss the sound of your tail sliding through the tall grass, your cold, bumpy skin, but, most of all, I will miss your infectious laugh.”
Sandler is working on a sequel to the film, called Happy Gilmore 2, which will be released on Netflix in July. Morris does not appear in the new film, since he died in the first movie. But his memory will live on.
“We have decided to get Morris taxidermied so that he can continue to scare children for years to come,” the Colorado Gator Farm writes on Facebook. “It’s what he would have wanted.”
The farm is located in Mosca, a small town roughly 200 miles southwest of Denver. Situated in the San Luis Valley, the farm is home to roughly 300 alligators, as well as snakes, lizards, crocodiles and tortoises, per CBS News Colorado’s Logan Smith.
Young’s parents, Erwin and Lynne, started the operation as a tilapia farm in the late 1970s. They brought in baby alligators to clean up the dead fish, but as the reptiles grew, visitors began showing up to see them. Today, the farm serves as a refuge for unwanted, illegal and abused reptiles.

What's New on Hulu in June 2025
FX's highly acclaimed hit series The Bear returns to Hulu in June for its fourth season, picking up right after the events of season three, when Carmy received the Chicago Tribune's review of his fine-dining restaurant. The main cast—Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri, to name a few—are reprising their roles in pushing The Bear forward. All 10 episodes will drop on June 25. Call Her Alex (June 10) is a Hulu original docuseries following "Call Her Daddy" podcast host Alex Cooper in preparation for her first tour with a behind-the-scenes look at the events that shaped her journey. Similarly, Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything (June 23) uses archival footage to explore Walters' life and career as a journalist and host in a male-dominated industry. On the film side, The Actor (June 30) is a crime mystery based on Donald E. Westlake's novel "Memory," starring Andre Holland as an actor with memory loss and Gemma Chan as a costume designer in the small town he ends up in. Predator: Killer of Killers (June 6) is an animated action/adventure and Hulu original set in the Predator universe. Here’s everything else coming to (and leaving) Hulu in June.
