• Console raises $6.2M from Thrive to free IT teams from mundane tasks with AI

If you’ve ever been locked out of your work computer, you know the urgent need to reach IT support. Unfortunately, help desk staff are often busy assisting others, which can mean a significant delay before you regain access.
Andrei Serban realized the critical importance of IT’s manual work when he was a product lead on Rippling’s apps and integrations team. Serban, who joined Rippling after it acquired his coding security startup Fuzzbuzz in 2023, saw an opportunity to automate many of the help desk’s basic tasks with AI, from resetting passwords, to granting access to apps like Figma and Miro, to routine troubleshooting.
Serban couldn’t wait to get started on his vision. He left Rippling last year to found Console, a startup on a mission to help IT teams reduce mundane, repetitive tasks, thereby freeing up time for help desk professionals to work on more strategic and sophisticated projects.
While trying to automate help desk functions isn’t new, Console differentiates itself from existing competitors — including Moveworks, which was acquired by ServiceNow in March for billion — by forgoing long, complex installation processes. Thanks to its easy integration with Slack, Console’s AI assistant can be made available to everyone in the company in just a few weeks.
“We’re able to get there so fast because we don’t require you to replace your help desk,” he said.
Console sees itself as an AI co-worker that up-levels existing help desk professionals. Serban even suggested that as companies digitize more of their operations, the IT function will become increasingly vital.
Employees message Console on Slack and the startup’s AI agent quickly responds to requests because it knows everything about the user, from their specific laptop model to the applications they have permission to use. Console’s AI can resolve over 50% of the tasks on its own, and it will loop in someone from IT for more complex issues, Serban said.

The fast install time attracted customers, including Scale AI, Flock Safety, and Calendly.
These customer wins have led Console to secure million in seed funding from Thrive Capital.
Vince Hankes, a partner at Thrive, said that the firm, which has backed many of the leading AI companies, including OpenAI, Cursor, and Scale AI, has had a thesis about artificial intelligence’s potential to assist with IT tasks since ChatGPT was first released in the fall of 2022.
While Hankes acknowledged that Console’s fast integration might make it seem easily replaceable, he believes its AI technology will improve so quickly with user adoption that it will become an indispensable, deeply integrated system essential to everyone at the customer’s company.
Console’s goal is to eventually start supporting other functions, including answering employee requests about HR, finance, and legal.
“We want Console to be an employee’s first call for help,” Serban said.

Kinetic Games has confirmed Phasmophobia's next content drop, Chronicle, will release on 24th June, and it'll be its "biggest update yet".
As well as introducing a "total overhaul" of how evidence is collected, the team said Chronicle will expand investigations with three new evidence types, a completely redesigned Journal, reworked levelling and progression, a refreshed Main Menu UI, and "many eerie surprises still lurking in the dark".

Phasmophobia - Console Launch Trailer.Watch on YouTube
But at the "heart" of the Chronicle update is the debut of the all-new Sound evidence. An entirely new haunting paranormal proof type can be captured through the new Sound Recorder, bringing "a new dimension to gameplay, revealing subtle clues that might otherwise be drowned out by terrified screams". Available in the customary three upgrade tiers, players will be able to record audio from ghost events, Spirit Box responses, and Paranormal Sounds like those detected by the Parabolic Microphone.
It's this new evidence type that's necessitated a Journal upgrade, too. The Photo tab will be rebranded as "Media", and keep all your photos, videos, and new sound recordings in one place. Importantly, you'll have to fill your journal with all these unique media types, including "EMF spikes to ghostly interactions and fleeting glimpses of otherworldly forms", to complete a "perfect" investigation.

"Chronicle will also introduce a revamped media quality system," Kinetic teased. "The first evidence capture of any media type will be marked as 'Unique', granting extra cash and XP rewards at the end of each contract. Any subsequent captures of the same evidence type will be classed as 'Duplicates', offering smaller rewards. The new system will also add tier bonuses based on the equipment used and adds all media captures into the Reward Multiplier, making every shot, sound, and sight count even more toward player’s final payouts."
Don't forget that this year, Phasmophobia will also rework Grafton Farmhouse, following Bleasdale Farmhouse's recent overhaul. Before then, though, we'll also get to see the new levelling and progression system and Main Menu UI when Chronicle arrives at the end of June.
The ghost-hunting sim has sold two million copies on console since it came out of early access last October, bringing the total sales across all platforms to 22 million. The development team recently outlined the road ahead for the spooky sim in 2025, confirming map reworks, new ghost-hunting equipment, "thrilling seasonal events", and a brand-new location, too.

  • Uh Oh, 25% Tariff on Graphics Cards Might Return This Weekend

A dormant 25% tariff on Chinese-assembled graphics cards and motherboards is expected to return this weekend, unless the Trump administration acts.A year ago, the Biden administration extended the pause on the 25% tariff by granting exclusions to the affected Chinese imports, but only through May 31, 2025.The 25% tariff originated during the first Trump administration as part of its Section 301 investigation into China's trade and technology policies. But at times, Trump and then Biden exempted Chinese-assembled GPUs and motherboards from the duties. The manufacturing for both components still occurs largely in China.  Since then, the Office of the US Trade Representative under Trump has not said whether it’ll extend the exclusion. If it lapses, PC vendors face a 25% import fee on top of the 20% tariff rate the Trump administration is already imposing on Chinese electronics.   Recommended by Our EditorsSo far, the USTR press office hasn’t responded to repeated emails and a phone call about the fate of the tariff exclusions. But the major lobbying group for the electronics industry, the Consumer Technology Association, tells PCMag it expects the exclusions to expire tomorrow. That’s bad news for PC builders since many graphics cards are already being sold at inflated prices, forcing consumers to pay hundreds of dollars extra, depending on the model.  Jon Bach, president of custom PC maker Puget Systems, is also bracing for the exclusions to expire. “I'm watching the news cycles closely over the weekend and early next week,” he said, noting he plans on updating his blog about the potential impact. The 25% tariff is unrelated to a court ruling this week that struck down some of Trump’s broader tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The 25% tariff on Chinese-assembled GPUs and motherboards was instead imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and remains legally intact.
