Colorful Unveils plethora of Products at Computex, Including Doom-Themed RTX 5080 GPU, 3200W PSU, Liquid-Cooled DDR5 Memory & BTF Designs DOOM: The Dark Ages is taking the spotlight on many booths, as that is one game that GPU makers are using as the theme of some of their new limited-edition models. Colorful is also making one of those in a brand-new design, which uses an acrylic shroud with a foggy finish that is colored green and houses the Slayer logo in the middle fin. This is a high-end 3-slot design with triple-fan cooling and is going to come in RTX 5080 GPU flavors. 2 of 9 Even the heatsink underneath the shroud is colored green, and on the back, you get a full-coverage backplate with a circular cut-out for higher airflow and the Dark Ages cover photo engraved on the entirety of the backplate. The card uses a single 16-pin connector and will be a limited edition model with a premium price point. 2 of 9 Colorful is also expanding into the BTF ecosystem with new products that include GPUs, motherboards, and PSUs. An iGame Ultra RTX 5070 Ti GPU was showcased, which uses modular BTF connectors, one with the standard BTF to 16-pin and the other with a BTF to BTF connector. Both connectors are rated at up to 600W and easily swap into place. The 16-pin connector is also angled, making it easier to avoid any unwanted bends in the cable. 2 of 9 The BTF PSU also replaces the 24-pin ATX connection and uses a specialized BTF connector that can be connected to a compatible BTF motherboard, such as the one from the iGame Ultra series. It is still an early design for the DIY market, but Colorful is shipping such systems pre-built within the Asian marketplace. One of these systems is the iGame Neptune design, which makes use of a full-on aluminum build and houses some impressive components. One of these is the GeForce RTX 5090 Neptune, which is an AIO-cooled design with a 360mm radiator and uses some sleek silver-aluminum and blue hints on the shroud. NASA revived roll thrusters on the 47-year-old Voyager 1 that were thought to be dead for two decades.According to the space agency, scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA, located in Southern California, have reactivated a set of thrusters on the spacecraft.The roll thrusters have not worked since 2004 and are long believed to have been out of commission.These thrusters are important because Voyager's main thrusters appear to have some residue forming that could cause them to clog. The JPL has been working on restoring the thrusters on the Voyager 1.Suzanne Dodd, Voyager project manager and director of the Interplanetary Network at JPL, said these upgrades are important for future Moon missions."These antenna upgrades are important for future crewed lunar landings, and they also increase communications capacity for our science missions in deep space, some of which are building on the discoveries Voyager made," Dodd said in a press release.Each Voyager has a set of primary thrusters that control movement in all directions as well as smaller thrusters for what is called roll control.Using the smaller thrusters allows the Voyager’s antenna to stay aligned with Earth, so the scientists can communicate with it. Making a game is hard. Getting anyone to care about it might be harder. That’s why we launched the Indie Survival Guide — an evolving archive of Q&As, VODs, and live streams from developers and industry folks. There’s no guaranteed playbook for success, but hearing how others navigated design, business, and getting by can give you better odds. In this recent stream, we sat down with Chris Zukowski from HowToMarketAGame.com, who shared honest, actionable advice on standing out in a crowded Steam marketplace. Below are a few highlights from the conversation.1. Optimize your Steam pageA good Steam page does two things: it tells players exactly what kind of game they’re looking at, and it proves that it’s worth their time. According to Chris, clarity is king:“You wanna make your Steam page look like your type of game so that at an instant somebody shopping goes, ‘Ah, it's that type of game—I’m gonna buy it.”To build trust, you also need to look professional, and that starts with how your game is presented visually.“You wanna show quality. And another way to do quality is you should hire a capsule artist,” says Chris. “I’m telling you folks… don’t just use Unity, take a screenshot, and then use MS Paint to write the title of your game. Don’t do that.”Details matter, even in your thumbnail. Chris pointed out how players make fast visual associations when skimming through the store.“Every capsule always has a hammer. I don’t know why,” he says. “But if you just put a hammer in your thumbnail for your game—it’s called a capsule—people are gonna see that hammer and subconsciously go, ‘Oh, I bet I build a city with that.’”Why is all this important? Often, you have that first 5 seconds when someone lands on your Steam page or views your capsule browsing the platform to grab their attention. The competition is steep, and you need to find any way to rise above the noise.2. Choose the Right Genre on SteamYour first marketing decision isn’t the trailer, or the tweet — it’s the game you chose to make. Genre isn’t just a creative choice; it defines your market fit.“The moment you say ‘I’m gonna make this type of game,’ you’ve actually made the biggest marketing decision,” Chris explains. “People think like, ‘Oh, I’ve made my game and now I want to start thinking about marketing.’ It’s too late.”Chris emphasized that certain genres are better suited for Steam’s player base. Horror is a consistent favorite, as are systems-driven games.“Most of the games that do very well are genres that people don’t typically make. The big one is horror. The other ones I call crafty building strategy simulation-y games,” he says. “Crafty building strategy simulation-y games—these are games where they’re almost like a sandbox. It’s not like a linear story where you’re a dude with a sword and you run through an environment.”Things like crafting games, management and automation games, city builders, and simulation games do really well on Steam, even if they don’t become household names. This has held true for awhile. Trends on Steam aren’t as unpredictable as they seem. Chris has tracked genre performance over several years and found them surprisingly stable:“I’ve done this for the past three years to look at the big genres that are on there… and typically, it’s very consistent year over year. These trends aren’t running. These trends are staying the same.”3. Avoid Common Mistakes on SteamEven great games can stumble at launch because of simple oversights. One of the biggest? Not treating your Steam page launch as an announcement:“People have never announced their game,” he says. “I know this sounds weird… but a lot of people just throw their Steam page up and then their Steam page is live. No. When you put your Steam page up, you announced your game.”Another major one: forgetting to use Steam’s built-in tools to notify your audience.“You launch your game and… you didn’t push the ‘email wishlisters’ button? That’s a big one. That’s a new rule. That was instituted in about October. But that’s it—you have to push the button,” he says. “You have two weeks from when you launch your demo to push this button called ‘email wishlisters’… do not forget. A third of responses to my survey were like, ‘what’s an email button?’”Discovery on Steam is based on a lot of things, but don’t underestimate metadata and tags. Steam’s discovery algorithm relies heavily on tags, yet many devs ignore them or don’t maintain them.“Another stupid thing—check your tags. I’ve seen people that have like 10 tags. No—you wanna get all the tags."4. Prepare for Steam Next FestSteam Next Fest can offer a massive visibility spike — if you show up prepared. That means your demo needs to be in shape before the event begins.“You should not be debuting your demo during Next Fest,” he says, “Next Fest is the grand… it’s the quinceañera. It’s the grand debut of the final stage of yourself. You should have released your demo long before.”This is especially important because Steam gives all participants equal footing at first — but only boosts games that perform well early.“You want your demo bulletproof,” he says. “You’ve wanted it vetted by streamers before. You’ve wanted it in other festivals. Because if on that first day everybody fires it up and there’s some bug… you’re done.”Chris emphasized the importance of building wishlists before the event begins:“If you’re coming into Next Fest hot with more wishlists, you will do better. That’s why you want to get that demo out early and build some momentum before the fest begins.”5. Invest wisely when supplementing your Steam pageIf you're chasing visibility, you don’t need to buy a massive toolset or a stack of ads. In fact, most of this process can be done with strategy and timing.“There aren’t that many tools… you don’t need to buy a lot. Marketing is not pay-to-win that much,” he says about marketing a Steam game. “Marketing is actually much more strategic, and it’s about when you time certain activities and what you do.”The only thing Chris consistently recommends spending on? A pro-looking capsule image.“The only thing I really recommend spending money on is hiring a capsule artist. Other than that, most of this is free and DIY.”There are no magic formulas, but learning how others have done it can go a long way. If there’s one consistent takeaway from this chat with Chris, it’s that marketing is not just about shouting as loud as you can on social media. You need to make a game that the market on that platform is looking for, make it obvious that it’s that type of game, and let the game do the marketing work for you. Getting demos out early is key. ADATA's gaming-focused division, XPG, has showcased several of its products at Computex, and interestingly, they have seen an endorsement by NVIDIA's CEO. XPG Unveils High-End Power Supplies, Cooling Solutions, RAMs & SSDs At Computex, Seeing Appreciation From NVIDIA's Jensen XPG has always managed to deliver quality products to PC consumers, especially their "Core Reactor" power supply SKUs, which are said to be one of the best options out there. This year, when we managed to visit XPG's booth, we were surprised to see Jensen before us, and interestingly, he had his signature on the company's next-gen PSUs, which are said to power NVIDIA's RTX 50 series GPUs. Apart from power supplies, we saw the company's upcoming PC cases, cooling solutions, and SSDs, so there's much to discuss. Starting with the power supplies, our eyes went on XPG's Core Reactor II series, which had Jensen's signature. The main upgrade with this series is that they are now ATX 3.0 and ATX 3.1 compliant, and come with up to an 80 PLUS GOLD certification, making these PSUs highly capable. XPG had explicitly stated that this series was designed to cater to the "power-hungry" NVIDIA RTX 50 series GPUs, since they come up to a 1200W power rating. With Jensen's blessing, the Core Reactor II models are something to look at. 2 of 9 Interestingly, XPG also had their flagship-level PSU on display, the FUSION lineup, which is said to come with a power rating of 1600W, with Titanium certification, making it ample for NVIDIA's RTX 5090. There were other lineups on display too, such as the XPG Cybercore, which features Platinum certification and up to a 1300W rating. For the mid-tier segment, XPG had their PYLON, Kyber, and Edgecore PSUs on display, all catering to different power levels and certifications. 2 of 9 Apart from PSUs, the XPG Invader X PC chassis is also on display, which is the company's approach towards "backside-connected" components. The Invader X BTF features a panoramic view with 3mm glass panels, along with 4x 120mm pre-installed fans. The case supports ATX motherboards and BTF ones, too, making it a great option if you are looking for nicer cable management with your build. Moving from chassis, we saw XPG's Project Infinity DDR5 U-DIMM memory modules, which is the company's most capable offering to date. The memory is said to feature up to 8,000 MHz with up to 48 GB capacity per module. In terms of the design, Project Infinity features a brushed aluminum layer at the bottom, and has panels stacked at the top, to show a diffused RGB look, which is amazing to see. 2 of 9 Next are the company's cooling solutions, and XPG had both liquid/air-based options on display. Starting with liquid AIOs, the firm showcased their new XPG Levante View PRO 360 liquid cooler, which is the company's option that comes with an in-built 4-inch screen. They feature a large radiator, and we didn't see any 240mm option, so the View lineup might likely be limited to larger AIOs. XPG also showed the upgraded version of their Levante series, the Levante II, which now offers a mirror design on the pump and the onboard fans, bumping the aesthetics. 2 of 9 In terms of air options, XPG showed us their Maestro Plus 62DA CPU air cooler, which comes with a dual-tower design and offers a digital monitoring system. This air cooler supports up to 250W TDP and is also compatible with the latest sockets from Intel/AMD, making it a viable option for current-gen CPUs. There was also a smaller Maestro Plus 42SA cooler, supporting 220W TDP cooling, but it was a more compact design. However, both of them retained the dual-tower configuration. 2 of 9 Next up are the company's high-end SSDs, the Mars 980 Blade, 980 Storm, and 980 PRO, all of which are PCIe Gen5 options by the company, offering a whopping 14,000 MB/s speeds, which is one of the fastest out there. 2 of 9 The Blade and PRO model is equipped with a dedicated aluminum heatsink, while the Storm model features liquid and air cooling, making it a viable option if you want to squeeze out the maximum performance out of the drive. These SSDs will indeed turn out to be one of the fastest options out there, and it will be interesting to see how consumers react to them. XPG/ADATA is definitely one of the brands out there offering top-end quality to its users, and its latest Computex showcase was all about the company's commitment to the PC segment. To mark Wikipedia’s forthcoming 25th anniversary next year, Armedangels designed a 14-piece collection that turns design features from the Wikipedia user interface and experience into brand elements. Its signature bright cobalt blue, called “hyperlink blue,” is a key color, along with white and yellow core colors. Corsair Unveils PCI-E 5.0 SSDs, High-Performance RAM, Refreshed PSU Lineup, Hydro X Cooling Solutions, Cases, and New Peripherals Corsair had some really creative products for the consumer PC segment at Computex. The company not only showcased newer lineups for components and peripherals but also brought some convenient stuff that we hadn't ever seen before. 2 of 9 Starting with the PC components, Corsair introduced new PCI-E 5.0 and external SSDs. These include the MP600 Elite and MP600 PRO LPX for PS5, MP700 PRO and MP700 Elite for high-performance PCs, MP600 Mini and MP600 Micro for compact systems, and EX400U and EX100U external SSDs. 2 of 9 We also saw newer DDR5 memories in the Vengeance lineup alongside WS DDR5 RDIMM and SODIMM DDR5 for laptops. The Corsair memory lineup also received a refreshed Dominator Titanium series, new CUDIMM, and some RGB DDR5 memories. However, the Open Frame Concept was an excellent solution for building a quick test bench, which offers vertical and horizontal orientations, a removable PSU shroud, and a small footprint that does everything well without needing too much space. 2 of 9 The FRAME 40000 Prototype was one of the most notable innovations by Corsair, which brought swappable frame parts.
