  • The AMATOR Restaurant in Copenhagen Captures the Comforts of Home

    For his first solo venture, noted chef Mateusz Sarnowski, more affectionately known as Mati Pichci, wanted his restaurant to be the embodiment of the name he had chosen. In Latin, amator refers to a lover, a friend, an enthusiast, all descriptions of people who might dine at the new establishment located in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark.
    To bring his vision of a Danish hjemme spisested or “home dining place” to life, Pichci tapped his friend and fellow Poland native, Adam Wierciński, founder of wiercinski-studio, to design the space, the architect’s first in the city. He envisioned AMATOR as an inviting place where guests could dine and socialize, inspired by the many festive gatherings hosted by Pichci.

    Wierciński made the most of the compact 538-square-foot space, transforming it into three spots in one: a café, a restaurant, and a venue for private events. During the day the kitchen serves breakfast and lunch. Flavorful fare includes dishes based on seasonal vegetables and the chef’s personal favorite, a classic omelette. Evenings, meanwhile, are reserved for private candlelit dinners.

    Near the entrance there is a wall-mounted installation featuring a piece of a tree trunk from a forest in Poland, a nod to the project’s prevalent materials. Simple geometric constructions – also designed by Wierciński – are formed of raw steel combined with solid wood. A high counter by the front window offers a view of charming townhouses, a perfect spot to tuck in with a beverage.

    Rather than basic bistro furnishings, a communal table is the focal point in the restaurant. Made up of a series of small tops, it includes interspersed plates atop stands that are used to hold food, drinks, or even candles. Each oak top is angled, and together they form a distinctive jagged line. Gaps between the tops give the look of separate tables, but by pulling out steel rings they can be easily combined into one large piece. Patrons sit at space-saving oak stools, initial items in the upcoming wiercinski-objects series.

    A bar, crafted from the same materials, and enhanced with brown mirrors, separates the open kitchen. Pops of the same yellow that fills in the eatery’s signature brand dot are visible here. This sunny shade is found on ceramic tableware and plywood shelves above the gray tile backsplash. Stainless steel elements, from sconces to circular mirrors, add a bit of shine.

    In a nook at the rear of the space a selection of vinyl from a range of genres is available to spin on a turntable, and custom-made speakers by local company Arda Audio ensure high-quality sound. Music is another key ingredient, and just like the cuisine, is part of the overall sensory experience at AMATOR.

For instance, examining the front panel, you see perforations continue around the edge but maintain some structural rigidity.The back also has louvered vents, which require a 3-step process to manufacture.The cases are expected to be or but the US price may be different, and we expect to review them.The thing that jumps out to us most about the X50 is really just the panels. They are essentially gigantic pieces of perforated metal. Most of the case is steel. It has a unique power supply shroud that looks like plastic but is also steel.The X50 does not include any fans and Hyte’s focus has been to make something that looks different and has an emphasis on performance. In terms of fan options, the X50 supports up to 3x120mm fans at the bottom, which has a filter underneath the case that you can simply pull off.  Hyte has fans that color match most of its models. The X50 also has side-intake options and front intake mounts. The case is heavily ventilated everywhere. Taking the front panel off and examining it, we noticed that it has a lot of perforations on the side, which looks like it would provide more access to air. One of the things that isn’t final for the cheaper model, which has the mesh panel as opposed to the glass, is the presence of the grommets. Teller tells us that the grommets are “the most expensive part per volume of a case.” The product director says that they are trying to see if Hyte can get it in the cheaper variant, but says that since it will be covered by a mesh panel, people aren’t likely to notice its omission. The case has a very deep cable management channel. It also has drive support on the sides. Looking at the glass-panel variant, the glass is 4mm thick, which is gigantic. We’re told that it’s a “laminated acoustic glass.”The horizontal louvered vents on the back are mostly straight, even though they may not look like it on camera. There were 2 reasons for its design here. Hyte tells us it was for structural reasons and flow. We often talk about impedance to flow into a case, but impedance to flow going out doesn’t come up as much. There were a few instances in which we have brought it up, like in the Lancool 207, where it has a really restricted airflow in one of its panels. In theory, being able to help the air exit faster should help with thermal performance. Hyte is trying to make a thermal performance chart topper and we’ll see how it does in our testing. Another thing worth pointing out is that the front IO ends up routing, basically, internally and kicks out towards the back side. This is coupled with a couple cable management velcro straps, which is a more standard feature. Hyte continues its louvered vents on the PCIe slots.Speaking with Teller, the product director emphasized how difficult it was to design and manufacture the case. He explained that, in general, round things are typically difficult to make, which is even more difficult to make out of steel. In the case of the X50, it has compound curves, which are curves in 2 directions. This is exemplified in the corners of the case. Explaining how it was produced, Teller stated that the metal is stamped with a 3-ton hydraulic press that has to come down very slow and smoothly. According to the product director, most case tooling uses a 1-ton press that comes down very quickly. He also points out that the yield contributes to the cost. Purchases directly fund our work!Teller explained that its machines have to run slowly otherwise things will tear and rip. Thus, the metal needs to be gently massaged into position. If the press comes down too quickly, it would act like a guillotine and cut things in half. The process of figuring out the manufacturing took a lot of experimentation. The company practiced with heated up presses, which Teller tells us is very expensive. Hyte also experimented with stainless steel and steel that doesn’t have any nickel or chromium in it, which reduces the structural rigidity that allows for easier manipulation, but then quickly oxidizes and rusts.The company initially thought that if they had less mesh, making the panels would be easier, but the factory making the X50 informed Hyte that it would actually be easier if they had more mesh. This ended up being an unexpected benefit as they wanted more ventilation.  The curved metal PSU shroud also required a slow stamping process with very tight tolerances, which is common with many kitchen products like colanders and metal bowls. The louvered slats on the back were also a challenge to implement. Some of the factories that Hyte has worked with have told them it couldn’t be done or that they didn’t know how to do it. Teller said that the factory that produced Hyte’s Y60and Y70cases, however, has an appreciation for doing difficult things and understands that if they’re able to do difficult things, they’ll be able to produce more units, which can generate more money. The factory was able to pull it off. Next up, we’re going to take a look at some of the failed panel prototypes that Hyte has produced. Teller tells us that Hyte spent tens of thousands of dollars to create many different prototypes as they have different tooling. The company also initially heard that what they were asking for was “impossible.”One of the first prototypes we looked at was made using plastic, which would be easier than making it out of metal, but ends up feeling flimsy.Another one we looked at was all rusted, which was due to the fact that Hyte used a softer metal with less nickel and chromium to reduce the chance of it tearing during the manufacturing process. Like we said up above, however, this introduces oxidation, which causes rust. The panel in the picture above is only a week old despite looking significantly older than that. The reason Hyte tried that is because previous prototypes would just tear, especially at the seam of where the mesh meets the solid metal. These issues made Hyte second guess their manufacturing process and case design. Another prototype was stamped but also welded together, which wasn’t going to be acceptable. We looked at another prototype that was both ripped and rusted. This unit had a difference in hole size and spacing, which lent itself to tearing.  Another unit we looked at used lower porosity mesh on the edges, which is what the factory Hyte worked with said was the limit of what it could do. Hyte couldn’t accept this design, however, as they were targeting over 40% porosity. Teller says the X50’s final design ended up having about 45% porosity with 2mm holes and 3mm spacing. The last prototype involved a stamped sheet of mesh and looked close to what Hyte was going for but presented another issue. The downside is that it prevented Hyte from mounting any mounting points on it. This means the company couldn't attach it to a case and the factory couldn’t control the tolerances very well. The company then folds the remaining solid piece, which have studs in them that click into clips. When we asked Hyte if the X50 would be coming to the US, Teller stated, “We’ll see,” which is up in the air due to the US’ unpredictable tariff policies.

In terms of fan options, the X50 supports up to 3x120mm fans at the bottom, which has a filter underneath the case that you can simply pull off.  Hyte has fans that color match most of its models. The X50 also has side-intake options and front intake mounts. The case is heavily ventilated everywhere. Taking the front panel off and examining it, we noticed that it has a lot of perforations on the side, which looks like it would provide more access to air. One of the things that isn’t final for the cheaper model, which has the mesh panel as opposed to the glass, is the presence of the grommets. Teller tells us that the grommets are “the most expensive part per volume of a case.” The product director says that they are trying to see if Hyte can get it in the cheaper variant, but says that since it will be covered by a mesh panel, people aren’t likely to notice its omission. The case has a very deep cable management channel. It also has drive support on the sides. Looking at the glass-panel variant, the glass is 4mm thick, which is gigantic. We’re told that it’s a “laminated acoustic glass.”The horizontal louvered vents on the back are mostly straight, even though they may not look like it on camera. There were 2 reasons for its design here. Hyte tells us it was for structural reasons and flow. We often talk about impedance to flow into a case, but impedance to flow going out doesn’t come up as much. There were a few instances in which we have brought it up, like in the Lancool 207, where it has a really restricted airflow in one of its panels. In theory, being able to help the air exit faster should help with thermal performance. Hyte is trying to make a thermal performance chart topper and we’ll see how it does in our testing. Another thing worth pointing out is that the front IO ends up routing, basically, internally and kicks out towards the back side. This is coupled with a couple cable management velcro straps, which is a more standard feature. Hyte continues its louvered vents on the PCIe slots.Speaking with Teller, the product director emphasized how difficult it was to design and manufacture the case. He explained that, in general, round things are typically difficult to make, which is even more difficult to make out of steel. In the case of the X50, it has compound curves, which are curves in 2 directions. This is exemplified in the corners of the case. Explaining how it was produced, Teller stated that the metal is stamped with a 3-ton hydraulic press that has to come down very slow and smoothly. According to the product director, most case tooling uses a 1-ton press that comes down very quickly. He also points out that the yield contributes to the cost. If the press comes down too quickly, it would act like a guillotine and cut things in half. The process of figuring out the manufacturing took a lot of experimentation. The company practiced with heated up presses, which Teller tells us is very expensive. Hyte also experimented with stainless steel and steel that doesn’t have any nickel or chromium in it, which reduces the structural rigidity that allows for easier manipulation, but then quickly oxidizes and rusts.The company initially thought that if they had less mesh, making the panels would be easier, but the factory making the X50 informed Hyte that it would actually be easier if they had more mesh. This ended up being an unexpected benefit as they wanted more ventilation.  The curved metal PSU shroud also required a slow stamping process with very tight tolerances, which is common with many kitchen products like colanders and metal bowls. The louvered slats on the back were also a challenge to implement. Some of the factories that Hyte has worked with have told them it couldn’t be done or that they didn’t know how to do it. Teller said that the factory that produced Hyte’s Y60and Y70cases, however, has an appreciation for doing difficult things and understands that if they’re able to do difficult things, they’ll be able to produce more units, which can generate more money. The factory was able to pull it off. Next up, we’re going to take a look at some of the failed panel prototypes that Hyte has produced. Teller tells us that Hyte spent tens of thousands of dollars to create many different prototypes as they have different tooling. The company also initially heard that what they were asking for was “impossible.”One of the first prototypes we looked at was made using plastic, which would be easier than making it out of metal, but ends up feeling flimsy.Another one we looked at was all rusted, which was due to the fact that Hyte used a softer metal with less nickel and chromium to reduce the chance of it tearing during the manufacturing process. Like we said up above, however, this introduces oxidation, which causes rust. The panel in the picture above is only a week old despite looking significantly older than that. The reason Hyte tried that is because previous prototypes would just tear, especially at the seam of where the mesh meets the solid metal. These issues made Hyte second guess their manufacturing process and case design. Another prototype was stamped but also welded together, which wasn’t going to be acceptable. We looked at another prototype that was both ripped and rusted. This unit had a difference in hole size and spacing, which lent itself to tearing.  Another unit we looked at used lower porosity mesh on the edges, which is what the factory Hyte worked with said was the limit of what it could do. Hyte couldn’t accept this design, however, as they were targeting over 40% porosity. Teller says the X50’s final design ended up having about 45% porosity with 2mm holes and 3mm spacing. The last prototype involved a stamped sheet of mesh and looked close to what Hyte was going for but presented another issue. The downside is that it prevented Hyte from mounting any mounting points on it. This means the company couldn't attach it to a case and the factory couldn’t control the tolerances very well.     Text description provided by the architects. We have renovated an apartment in one of the residential buildings typical for the 1960s, located in a very central neighbourhood of Ljubljana. The existing floor plan was fragmented into many small spaces, with the kitchen accessible only through the living room.this picture!The main idea of  the renovation was to combine all the living areas into an open, unified space that encircles a freestanding monolith, clad completely in Carrara marble. This stone core consists of a fireplace and a marble bathroom.this picture!this picture!this picture!The large window, now in an angular position, has slightly reduced the size of the loggia, but significantly enlarged the living area that now smoothly extends into the kitchen and dining area.this picture!The unity of the living area is emphasised by the choice of colours and materials. The light grey shade of the polyurethane flooring repeats itself in the wall plaster and the built-in furniture, as a neutral envelope of the whole dwelling.this picture!We have also designed the furniture - a dining table and two low storage elements from the same family and materiality – stainless steel legs with birch plywood surfaces.     Emerging partnerships from AM 4 AM, and Meltio
    Kicking off with partnerships, Luxembourg’s materials R&D firm AM 4 AM has partnered with Stockholm aluminum powder supplier Gränges Powder Metallurgy, relocating the Swedish supplier’s materials characterization park to AM 4 AM’s facility. Under the agreement, AM 4 AM will operate GPM’s particle size analyzers, thermal testers, and mechanical-testing rigs to accelerate development cycles and strengthen quality control across both companies’ product lines.
    AM 4 AM Co-founder Maxime Delmée noted that access to GPM’s instrumentation will enable faster iteration and more data-driven decision-making. Highlighting benefits, GPM Managing Director Peter Vikner explained that relocating the equipment to AM 4 AM addressed both firms’ R&D requirements while leveraging AM 4 AM’s operational capabilities.
    Moving on, Spanish wire-laser metal 3D printer manufacturer Meltio has announced partnerships with Monterrey-based service provider Alar, and academic institution  Tecnológico de Monterrey.With this move, Alar will integrate the award-winning M600 industrial wire-laser 3D printer into its production lines, while the institution has acquired a Meltio M450 for academic training and industry collaboration. 
    Additionally, the Spanish manufacturer has also announced additive manufacturing integrator Sitres Latam as its official distributor. Meltio’s wire-feed deposition process, which supports stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and copper, offers mechanical properties on par with conventionally manufactured parts while reducing waste and emissions. “This alliance with Sitres, Alar, and Tecnológico de Monterrey is fundamental to promoting real and functional metal 3D printing solutions in Mexico,” said Alar CEO Andrea Alarcón.

    One Click Metal and Axtra3D Appoint New Resellers in Iberia
    Turning to resellers and distribution, German metal 3D printing systems developer One Click Metal has expanded into Portugal through a collaboration with Lisbon’s industrial additive manufacturing services provider 3D Ever. The agreement gives local businesses direct access to One Click Metal’s cartridge-based powder handling systems and Lab Module for rapid material changes, alongside region-specific training and post-installation support.
    Founded in 2017, 3D Ever operates a multi-technology showroom—covering covering stereolithography, selective laser sintering, fused filament fabrication, and direct metal laser sintering—and hosts open-house events and technical workshops to integrate 3D printing into customer workflows. “Portugal is a dynamic market for additive manufacturing,” said One Click Metal’s Global Sales Director Martin Heller, “and 3D Ever’s deep industry knowledge makes them the ideal partner.”

    On the research corner, the Microsoft-backed standards organization 3MF Consortium has formed a 6-Axis Toolpath Working Group to define open data structures for robotic and multi-axis AM workflows. The effort invites professionals using industrial robots and advanced CNC platforms to develop a 3MF extension that encodes non-planar toolpath data, enabling seamless interoperability across design, toolpath generation, and machine control software.
    Originally created to surpass STL and OBJ for complex manufacturing data, the 3MF format already supports units, materials, lattices, slice data, and metadata. This new working group will build on modules like the Beam Lattice Extension to integrate multi-axis motion paths, with open-source reference implementations available via the consortium’s GitHub repository.

This transitional zone is supported by a reconfigured streetscape and entrance plaza, inviting occupation beyond the function of shopping. These spatial devices are calibrated to intensify the porosity between inside and outside, fostering a continuity of urban experience. The architectural language, while assertive, avoids spectacle. Instead, it aligns with the rhythms of the street, suggesting a model for how retail environments might more meaningfully participate in the life of the city.
    AIM Architecture eschews traditional retail hierarchies in favor of a layered and adaptive spatial arrangement. The design is organized around a sequence of interrelated zones, each calibrated to support distinct experiential intensities. At the ground level, the introduction of ZARA Salon offers a refined, intimate encounter with the brand. This contrasts with the upper levels, where spatial arrangements and materiality adopt a more experimental and energetic tone. These programmatic shifts articulate a nuanced understanding of the store’s diverse user profiles and behavioral patterns.
    Central to the spatial composition is the double-height entrance plaza, conceived as a flexible platform for cultural engagement. Rather than being subordinated to commercial imperatives, this space opens itself to temporary exhibitions, artistic collaborations, and public events. The integration of a visible automated clothing transportation system along a glazed wall serves a dual function: operational efficiency and spatial expression. By revealing the store’s logistical mechanisms, the architecture foregrounds process as a form of engagement, reinforcing the store’s identity as an evolving machine.

    Material choices throughout the project articulate a sensibility rooted in clarity, tactility, and contextual responsiveness. The palette includes exposed structural concrete, red brick, stainless steel, solid wood, and ultra-clear glass. These materials are not merely applied as surface treatments but are used to express the building’s spatial and structural logic.
    One of the project’s most distinctive features is the red brick “mountain” staircase that extends toward the public realm. This element performs multiple roles: it serves as circulation, seating, display, and an urban landmark. Its textured materiality references the local architectural vernacular, grounding the otherwise contemporary design in its geographic and cultural context. Inside, the polished concrete floors and cassette ceiling system establishes a framework of disciplined neutrality, allowing the dynamic display environments and customer movement to animate the space without visual clutter.
    The approach to detailing reflects a commitment to architectural integrity. Junctions are resolved with precision, and structural elements are left deliberately exposed, contributing to a language of authenticity. The lighting strategy, developed in collaboration with Fagerhult, underscores spatial transitions and accentuates material contrasts without resorting to theatricality.
    Toward a New Retail Paradigm: Cultural Infrastructure
    The ZARA Nanjing Xinjiekou Flagship Store points toward a redefinition of the retail typology, aligning it more closely with the functions of cultural infrastructure. This is a project where architecture mediates between commerce and community, suggesting that the store can operate as a space of encounter, interaction, and expression.
    In a moment where physical retail must justify its relevance against the efficiency of e-commerce, AIM Architecture proposes a counter-model in which the store contributes to the public sphere, both spatially and culturally. The project offers an expanded understanding of what a flagship store can be through architectural interventions that encourage lingering discovery and participation. It is a space of consumption and a spatial framework for collective experience.
