Buried in the blog posts and videos that accompanied Google's The Android Show: I/O Edition announcements was a nugget of Nothing news: The Nothing Phone 3 is going to be expensive. In an Android marketing video showcasing the company's phones, Nothing CEO Carl Pei shared that the new phone will cost around £800 when it launches this summer. That new cost is thanks to Nothing's decision to go "all-in" on the new device by including "premium materials, major performance upgrades and software that really levels things up," according to Pei. The Nothing Phone 2 launched at £580 in the UK and $600 in the US, so selling the Phone 3 at £800 is a noticeable price jump. Assuming Nothing follows through on the premium upgrades it's promising, though, maybe it'll make sense that the Phone 3 costs as much as a Pixel 9 or iPhone 16. Nothing made its name on affordable phones that have unique, premium designs. For example, the company launched the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro in March 2025, the budget and mid-range counterparts to the Phone 3. Both phones use mid-range chips and camera sensors, but feature a futuristic design and clever AI features that you'd expect out of a much more expensive device. Switching to trying to compete with Apple and Samsung in terms of price suggests Nothing is confident, at the very least. New Persona annoucement due this week but prepare for disappointment GameCentral Published May 13, 2025 4:37pm Updated May 13, 2025 4:37pm Persona 5: The Phantom X – there’s too much red for it to be Persona 6 (Atlus) Atlus has confirmed that a new Persona title will be unveiled on Thursday but despite what fans hope it’s almost certainly not Persona 6. Persona 5 will be 10 years old next year. In that time there’s been innumerable spin-offs, as well as a remake of Persona 3 and rumours that Persona 4 will be getting the same treatment. What there hasn’t been any word on though is Persona 6. It was eight years between Persona 4 and 5, so even taking longer development times into account this isn’t unusual, but it’s frustrating for fans that literally the only thing we know about Persona 6 is that its main colour is green, rather than the red of its predecessor. Hopes rose today that maybe there’d finally be a reveal, as Atlus announced a livestream for a new Persona unveiling, but instead of Persona 6 it’s just yet another Persona 5 spin-off. Persona 5: The Phantom X is a free-to-play live service game from Chinese publisher Perfect World, that has already been available in open beta in China since last April. It features a completely different Phantom Thief team but with similar gameplay to Persona 5, albeit streamlined for smartphones and filled with microtransactions. In short, it’s probably the last thing fans wanted but presumably the annoucement this week is for the full release in Japan and (probably but not definitely) the West. Some fans have tried to convince themselves it is for Persona 6 but not only is the colour scheme and art style clearly that of Persona 5, but the owl emoji is a reference to the character Lufel, who is the game’s equivalent of Morgana from the main game. When will Persona 6 be announced? If you have to see it all for yourself, the livestream takes place on Thursday, May 15 at 3pm BST. The YouTube video for the stream is already live and features artwork that makes it very clear that this is Persona 5: The Phantom X and not Persona 6. More Trending Sadly, there really is no clue as to when Persona 6 will be revealed, although when it does arrive it’s expected to be multiformat, including for Xbox and the Switch 2. Given the critical and commerical success of Metaphor: ReFantazio, Atlus is in no rush to say or do anything about Persona 6, but the further we get away from Persona 5’s original launch date the more likely an annoucement gets. It’s possible Atlus may use one of the not-E3 summer showcases to unveil it, but it’s just as likely they’ll reveal it via one of their own events. There may even be a tease in the livestream on Thursday, but that seems unlikely. Perhaps the main question now is whether Persona 4’s remake will be announced and/or released before Persona 6. Considering there’s more evidence for its existence than for the sequel, that’s probably quite likely. Wizards of the Coast has been gradually rolling out what it's got in store for Magic: The Gathering and its big Final Fantasy crossover this summer. Over the weekend, the team debuted a significant chunk of cards, from both the main set and the Commander decks, and fans are enjoying some of the fun and even surprising cuts from their favorite Final Fantasy games.The Universes Beyond collaboration with Final Fantasy is getting both the usual Commander treatment and a booster-driven series, so there are a lot of cards to go over. The transformation along the card illustrates Sephiroth's various forms throughout the FF7 universe, from a young fighter into, eventually, Safer Sephiroth on the card Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel.And what would a Final Fantasy be without some Cids? The Final Fantasy set will include a Cid from each of the numbered Final Fantasy games, though Wizards is opting for the older Cid from Final Fantasy XV over his daughter, Cindy.After Saturday's panel, though, Wizards of the Coast released the decklist for the four aforementioned Commander decks, and fans started poring over the art and additions to see how the team adapted those four Final Fantasy games into Magic. Pretty well, it turns out.Reprints, or new versions of existing Magic cards, get some clever crossovers with Final Fantasy lore. Skullclamp, for instance, draws on the Jenova project in Final Fantasy 7 for its art.Together, Forever also takes an emotional stab at the Final Fantasy 10 fans out there. It shouldn't be surprising that Final Fantasy 10 has some emotional wellsprings to draw from, with its central protagonists' journey through a ruined land, on a somber pilgrimage. Several decks' cards reference some notable character moments, by the way, so you might want to go into these decklists aware that there will be some story spoilers for each respective game.But to lighten things up, one of Final Fantasy 10's more iconic, and frequently memed, moments also made the cut with Inspiring Call.In fact, Wizards found more than a few ways to incorporate Final Fantasy's less-serious moments into cards. Clever Concealment puts a spin on the Wall Market scene with Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa in dresses, heading to Don Corneo's, and even has a mechanic that seems fitting for the occassion. I'm a big fan of the Secret Rendezvous card, which has four different versions of the Golden Saucer date scene from Final Fantasy 7 with each potential date: Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie, and Barret.Even still, fans have been discovering the tiny details that show how much homage is being paid to the source material. The Final Fantasy 14 set, in particular, has quite a few references to the critically acclaimed MMORPG. The Hildibrand Manderville card mimics the infamous gentleman's habit of disappearing and returning, making for quite an interesting White/Black card in the process.One user on the FFXIV subreddit noted that the Archaeomancer's Map card uses a real possible location found in a Gaganaskin Treasure Map, for instance.In turn, Final Fantasy 14 players have been having fun with the cards. There are some jokes about wondering who the Thancred card represents, referencing the "This is Thancred" meme. And there's the alternative flavor text a user added to the Rite of Replication card, commemorating everyone's favorite speech from A Realm Reborn:Even the Tome of Legends card depicts a Wondrous Tails book, with all the little details you see in-game when a player picks up their Tails and, of course, several missed four-in-a-row connections.There's some clear attention to detail put into these cards, and it's certainly got me intrigued to see the full set. Monster Hunter Wilds has sold 10.1 million copies since its launch on February 28, driving Capcom‛s net sales during the last quarter.As noted in the company‛s fiscal report for the 12 months ended March 31, 2025, net sales increased by 11.3 percent year-on-year to 169.6 billion yen ($1.15 billion), with net income following suit by 11.7 percent year-on-year to 48.45 billion yen ($328 million).In the previous fiscal report, which encompassed the nine months ended December 31, 2024, Capcom predicted that the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds would enable it to achieve its goals for the corresponding fiscal year. A wildfire rages in British Columbia, Canada, in June 2023Imago/Alamy Stock Photo 2023 smashed the record for the hottest year, but it might have been even hotter. The entire northern hemisphere would have been nearly 1°C warmer on average during its summer without the cooling effect of smoke from massive wildfires in Canada, a climate model suggests. The smoke may also have led to the driest August in India on record. “I think it’s really hard to comprehend how gigantic the fires were. It was insane,” says Iulian-Alin Rosu at the Technical University of Crete in Greece, who presented his team’s findings at a meeting of the European Geosciences Union in Vienna, Austria. Advertisement The emissions were around five or six times higher than those during any previously recorded wildfire season in Canada, estimates Rosu. The carbon dioxide from these fires is having an ongoing warming effect, but in 2023 this warming was outweighed by the cooling effect of smoke blocking sunlight. To estimate how much cooling the smoke caused, Rosu and his colleagues ran a series of climate model simulations with and without the Canadian wildfire emissions. The results suggest that between May and September, the smoke caused local cooling of as much as 5.4°C (9.7°F) in small parts of Canada, and that the northern hemisphere as a whole was 0.9°C (1.6°F) cooler. This may seem surprising given that parts of Canada saw record temperatures during that summer. But the heat records were mostly in western regions, says Rosu, whereas the smoke blew east and had the biggest cooling effect on that side of the country. In the model, the wildfire emissions led to changes in winds over Asia that weakened the monsoon and led to less rainfall in India – and that is what happened in reality. “The precipitation anomaly that is seen in the data is really, really close to what we see in our model,” says Rosu. That is an indication that the model did a very good job, he says. However, the cooling effect didn’t last long. “When I looked at the data for November and December, there really wasn’t much of any effect left,” says Rosu. The record set in 2023 for hottest year didn’t last long either – 2024 turned out to be even hotter. It’s been 25 years since the original Final Destination film hit screens and began terrorizing audiences with its deeply memorable (and memeable) Rube Goldberg-like murder tableaus, which get more and more intricate and anxiety-inducing as the franchise goes on. Yet it’s somehow been 14 years since the last entry into the series—the campy, fun, and sort-of-prequel Final Destination 5—and with the appetite for inventive horror as ravenous as ever, and chaos all around us in 2025, we seem perfectly primed for another entry into the series.  Final Destination: Bloodlines thus begins like every other installment in the series: with a terrible disaster. Intriguingly though, this time it’s one that happened decades before the events of the majority of the film. It is in this context we meet Iris (Brec Bassinger), a young woman who after being proposed to on the top of the immense Skyview Tower defies Death with a horrific premonition that allows her to save the lives of hundreds of people who would have fallen and been burnt alive had Iris not alerted the would-be victims.  These setpieces are iconic— like the generation-traumatizing log truck in Final Destination 2 or Mary Elizabeth Winstead versus a rollercoaster in the third installment—so the first new one in 14 years is highly anticipated to say the least. And Bloodlines delivers, as the aesthetically pleasing practical set adds an epic scope to the opening and it manages to feature one of the film’s most horrifying moments that will send shivers up the spines of even the hardiest audience member.  It’s an opening that showcases the love and care that directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein channel throughout the film, with easter eggs aplenty, deep cut references, and some expansive new lore that impacts characters both old and new. Afterward the film pivots to the still-kicking legacy sequel/requel trend and recenters itself around a new family. Thanks to the return of Tony Todd and an expansion of his fan-favorite character William Bludworth, there’s connective tissue to the past. The directors weave that near seamlessly in with the central plot which follows Iris’ family in the modern day as Death finally catches up with them. Our would-be final girl is Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) who has been dreaming about Iris’ premonition and immediately throws herself into solving the gory family mystery that has presented itself. Along for the ride is her brother Charlie (Teo Briones) and the pair have great chemistry, working as leads that you can actually root for.  Along with a new cast of soon-to-be dead family members the film also introduces Iris’ long relationship with Death. Here we get an expansion in our understanding of Death, who has an almost playfully antagonistic relationship with the woman who managed to escape its grasp all those decades ago. Some of the movie’s best and most unique scenes come from the push and pull between the pair, and Gabrielle Rose’s brilliant performance as the older Iris.  Bloodlines also acts as a send off to legendary Candyman star and genre movie icon, Todd, who has been the sinewy heart of every entry into the Final Destination Todd gives his all, creating a rare and powerful heartfelt moment in the midst of the carnage. And Lipovsky and Stein bring that carnage to life beautifully. There are deaths here that will go down as some of the most terrifying in franchise history, as well as some of its biggest laughs. It’s a balance that makes the movie a perfect popcorn flick that you just have to see on the big screen. After all, if someone is going to get (SPOILER) by a (SPOILER) in their (SPOILER), don’t you want to see that and every other gruesome death as big as possible?   Speaking of big screens, the film was shot for IMAX, and the directors have a ton of fun playing with the ratio and what it can tell us about how deep into the peril we and the characters are. Likewise it features a big ensemble cast, meaning we get more death and destruction and casting director Tiffany Mak deserves a big shout out, as the chemistry is strong. We also get some instant new franchise classic characters like Erik (Richard Harmon), Stefani and Charlie’s burnout cousin who works at a sharps-filled tattoo shop. Why yes that setting will become important later in  a sequence that left my audience gagging in the best possible way.  Final Destination has always been one of the best horror franchises and this is a return that will not only please old fans but will also introduce and terrorize an entirely new audience into discovering these absolutely wild movies that are still going strong 25 years after the first entry. Thanks to an array of talent behind the screen—including Scream VI’s Guy Busick and the MCU Spider-Man’s Jon Watts—this is a witty, hilarious, and grotesque start to the summer blockbuster season.  Final Destination: Bloodlines is out in theaters on May 16.
