• Maxon has released Redshift 2025.5, and honestly, it's about time! But let's not sugarcoat it; the hype around new features like USDZ file rendering and point cloud support in Blender feels like a desperate attempt to keep up with competitors. Why does every release come with the same old promises? Users are tired of half-baked updates that don't address the real issues plaguing GPU rendering. Instead of flashy features, how about focusing on stability and performance? It’s infuriating to see companies chase trends while neglecting the core functionalities that truly matter. Enough with the marketing gimmicks—deliver real improvements or don’t bother at all!

  • It's time to call out the glaring flaws in the so-called "Latest Showreel" by the Compagnie Générale des Effets Visuels (CGEV). They tout their projects like a peacock showing off its feathers, but let's be honest: this is just a facade. The latest compilation, which includes work from films such as "The Substance," "Survivre," "Monsieur Aznavour," "Le Salaire de la Peur," and more, is nothing short of a desperate attempt to mask their shortcomings in the visual effects industry.

First off, what are they thinking with the title "Mise à jour de showreel"? This isn't an update; it's a cry for help! The industry is moving at lightning speed, and CGEV seems to be stuck in the past, clinging to projects that are as outdated as a floppy disk. The world of visual effects is about innovation and pushing boundaries, yet here we have a company content with showcasing work that barely scratches the surface of creativity.

And let’s talk about "Le Salaire de la Peur." If this is their crown jewel, then they are in serious trouble. The effects look amateurish at best, and it raises the question: are they even using the right technology? In an age where CGI can create stunning visuals that leave you breathless, CGEV’s work feels like a bad remnant of the early 2000s. It’s embarrassing to think that they believe this is good enough to represent their brand.

Alain Carsoux, the director, needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror. Is he satisfied with this mediocrity? Because the rest of us definitely aren’t. The lack of originality and innovation in these projects is infuriating. Instead of pushing the envelope, they're settling for the bare minimum, and that’s an insult to both their talent and their audience.

The sad reality is that CGEV is not alone in this trend. The entire industry seems to be plagued by a lack of ambition. They’re so focused on keeping the lights on that they’ve forgotten why they got into this business in the first place. It’s about passion, creativity, and daring to take risks. "Young Woman and the Sea" could have been a ground-breaking project, but instead, it’s just another forgettable title in an already saturated market.

We need to demand more from these companies. We deserve visual effects that inspire, challenge, and captivate. CGEV needs to get its act together and start investing in real talent and cutting-edge technology. No more excuses! The audience is tired of being served mediocrity wrapped in flashy marketing. If they want to compete in the visual effects arena, they better step up their game or face the consequences of being forgotten.

Let’s stop accepting subpar work from companies that should know better. The time for complacency is over. We need to hold CGEV accountable for their lack of innovation and creativity. If they continue down this path, they’ll be left behind in a world that demands so much more.

  • So, it seems like the latest buzz in the gaming world revolves around the profound existential question: "Should you attack Benisseur in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?" I mean, what a dilemma! It’s almost as if we’re facing a moral crossroads right out of a Shakespearean tragedy, except instead of contemplating the nature of humanity, we’re here to decide whether to smack a digital character who’s probably just trying to hand us some quests in the Red Woods.

Let’s break this down, shall we? First off, we have the friendly Nevrons, who seem to be the overly enthusiastic NPCs of this universe. You know, the kind who can't help but give you quests even when you clearly have no time for their shenanigans because you’re too busy contemplating the deeper meanings of life—or, you know, trying not to get killed by the next ferocious creature lurking in the shadows. And what do they come up with? "Hey, why not take on Benisseur?" Oh sure, because nothing says “friendly encounter” like a potential ambush.

Now, for those of you considering this grand expedition, let’s just think about the implications here. Attacking Benisseur? Really? Are we not tired of these ridiculous scenarios where we have to make a choice that could lead to our doom or, even worse, a 10-minute loading screen? I mean, if I wanted to sit around contemplating my choices, I would just rewatch my life decisions from 2010.

And let’s not forget the Red Woods—because every good quest needs a forest filled with eerie shadows and questionable sound effects, right? It’s almost like the developers thought, “Hmm, let’s create an environment that screams ‘danger!’ while simultaneously making our players feel like they’re in a nature documentary.” Who doesn’t want to feel like they’re being hunted while trying to figure out if attacking Benisseur is worth it?

On a serious note, if you do decide to go for it, just know that the friendly Nevrons might not be so friendly after all. After all, what’s a little betrayal between friends? And if you find yourself on the receiving end of a quest that leads you into an existential crisis, just remember: it’s all just a game. Or is it?

So here’s to you, brave adventurers! May your decisions in Clair Obscur be as enlightening as they are absurd. And as for Benisseur, well, let’s just say that if he turns out to be a misunderstood soul with a penchant for quests, you might want to reconsider your life choices after the virtual dust has settled.

  • Why does the world of animation, particularly at events like the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater, continue to suffer from mediocrity? I can't help but feel enraged by the sheer lack of innovation and the repetitive nature of the projects being showcased. On April 17th, we’re promised a “free screening” of selected projects that are supposedly representing the pinnacle of creativity and diversity in animation. But let’s get real — what does “selection” even mean in a world where creativity is stifled by conformity?

Look, I understand that this is a global showcase, but when you sift through the projects that make it through the cracks, what do we find? Overly polished but uninspired animations that follow the same tired formulas. The “Electronic Theater” is supposed to be a beacon of innovation, yet here we are again, being fed a bland compilation that does little to challenge or excite. It’s like being served a fast-food version of art: quick, easy, and utterly forgettable.

The call for diversity is also a double-edged sword. Sure, we need to see work from all corners of the globe, but diversity in animation is meaningless if the underlying concepts are stale. It’s not enough to tick boxes and say, “Look how diverse we are!” when the actual content fails to push boundaries. Instead of celebrating real creativity, we end up with a homogenized collection of animations that are, at best, mediocre.

And let’s talk about the timing of this event. April 17th? Are we really thinking this through? This date seems to be plucked out of thin air without consideration for the audience’s engagement. Just another poorly planned initiative that assumes people will flock to see what is essentially a second-rate collection of animations. Is this really the best you can do, Montpellier ACM SIGGRAPH? Where is the excitement? Where is the passion?

What’s even more frustrating is that this could have been an opportunity to truly showcase groundbreaking work that challenges the status quo. Instead, it feels like a desperate attempt to fill seats and pat ourselves on the back for hosting an event. Real creators are out there, creating phenomenal work that could change the landscape of animation, yet we choose to showcase the safe and the bland.

It’s time to demand more from events like SIGGRAPH. It’s time to stop settling for mediocrity and start championing real innovation in animation. If the Electronic Theater is going to stand for anything, it should stand for pushing boundaries, not simply checking boxes.

Let’s not allow ourselves to be content with what we’re served. It’s time for a revolution in animation that doesn’t just showcase the same old, same old. We deserve better, and the art community deserves better.

  • Why is it that in the age of advanced technology and innovative gaming experiences, we are still subjected to the sheer frustration of poorly implemented mini-games? I'm talking about the abysmal state of the CPR mini-game in MindsEye, a feature that has become synonymous with irritation rather than engagement. If you’ve ever tried to navigate this train wreck of a game, you know exactly what I mean.

Let’s break it down: the mechanics are clunky, the controls are unresponsive, and don’t even get me started on the graphics. This is 2023; we should expect seamless integration and fluid gameplay. Instead, we are faced with a hot-fix that feels more like a band-aid on a bullet wound! How is it acceptable that players have to endure such a frustrating experience, waiting for a fix to a problem that should have never existed in the first place?

What’s even more infuriating is the lack of accountability from the developers. They’ve let this issue fester for too long, and now we’re supposed to just sit on the sidelines and wait for a ‘hot-fix’? How about some transparency? How about acknowledging that you dropped the ball on this one? Players deserve better than vague promises and fixes that seem to take eons to materialize.

In an industry where competition is fierce, it’s baffling that MindsEye would allow a feature as critical as the CPR mini-game to slip through the cracks. This isn’t just a minor inconvenience; it’s a major flaw that disrupts the flow of the game, undermining the entire experience. Players are losing interest, and rightfully so! Why invest time and energy into something that’s clearly half-baked?

And let’s talk about the community feedback. It’s disheartening to see so many players voicing their frustrations only to be met with silence or generic responses. When a game has such glaring issues, listening to your player base should be a priority, not an afterthought. How can you expect to build a loyal community when you ignore their concerns?

At this point, it’s clear that MindsEye needs to step up its game. If we’re going to keep supporting this platform, there needs to be a tangible commitment to quality and player satisfaction. A hot-fix is all well and good, but it shouldn’t take a crisis to prompt action. The developers need to take a hard look in the mirror and recognize that they owe it to their players to deliver a polished and enjoyable gaming experience.

In conclusion, the CPR mini-game in MindsEye is a perfect example of how not to execute a critical feature. The impending hot-fix better be substantial, and I hope it’s not just another empty promise. If MindsEye truly values its players, it’s time to make some serious changes. We’re tired of waiting; we deserve a game that respects our time and investment!

  • Ah, the charming saga of the Ꝃ barré, the forbidden letter of Brittany, which, if we're being honest, sounds more like a character from a fantasy novel than a linguistic relic. Imagine a letter so exclusive that it vanished over a century ago, yet here we are, still talking about it as if it were the last slice of a particularly scrumptious cake at a party where everyone else is on a diet.

This letter, pronounced "ker," must be the rebellious teenager of the alphabet, refusing to adhere to the mundane rules of the linguistic world. Apparently, it’s been fighting valiantly for its right to exist, even outside its beloved Brittany. Talk about dedication! I mean, who wouldn’t want to be the one letter that’s still clutching to its glory days while the others have either retired or embraced digitalization?

Can you imagine the Ꝃ barré showing up to a modern linguistic convention? It would be like the hipster of the alphabet, sipping on artisanal coffee while lamenting about “the good old days” when letters had real character and weren’t just a boring assortment of vowels and consonants. "Remember when I was the life of the party?" it would say, gesturing dramatically as if it were the protagonist in a tragic play.

But let’s not forget the irony here. As we raise our eyebrows at this letter’s audacity to exist, it serves as a reminder of how we often romanticize the past. The Ꝃ barré is like that old song you used to love but can’t quite remember the lyrics to. You know it was great, but is it really worth reviving? Is it really that essential to our current linguistic landscape, or just a quirky footnote in the history of communication?

And then there’s the whole notion of "interdiction." It’s almost as if this letter is a linguistic outlaw, strutting around the shadows of history, daring anyone to challenge its existence. What’s next? A “Free the Ꝃ barré” campaign? T-shirts, bumper stickers, maybe even a social media movement? Because nothing screams “important cultural heritage” like a letter that’s been in hiding for over a hundred years.

So, let’s raise a toast to the Ꝃ barré! May it continue to stir fascination among those who fancy themselves connoisseurs of letters, even as the rest of the world sticks to the tried and true. For in a world full of ordinary letters, we need a little rebellion now and then.

Ah, the charming saga of the Ꝃ barré, the forbidden letter of Brittany, which, if we're being honest, sounds more like a character from a fantasy novel than a linguistic relic. • The protests in Los Angeles have brought a lot of attention, but honestly, it’s just the same old story. The Chatbot disinformation is like that annoying fly that keeps buzzing around, never really going away. You’d think people would be more careful about what they believe, but here we are. The spread of disinformation online is just fueling the fire, making everything seem more chaotic than it really is.

It’s kind of exhausting to see the same patterns repeat. There’s a protest, some people get riled up, and then the misinformation starts pouring in. It’s like a never-ending cycle. Our senior politics editor dives into this topic in the latest episode of Uncanny Valley, talking about how these chatbots are playing a role in amplifying false information. Not that many people seem to care, though.

The online landscape is flooded with all kinds of messages that can easily distort reality. It’s almost as if people are too tired to fact-check anymore. Just scroll through social media, and you’ll see countless posts that are misleading or completely untrue. The impact on the protests is real, with misinformation adding to the confusion and frustration. One could argue that it’s a bit depressing, really.

As the protests continue, it’s hard to see a clear path forward. Disinformation clouds the truth, and people seem to just accept whatever they see on their screens. It’s all so monotonous. The same discussions being had over and over again, and yet nothing really changes. The chatbots keep generating content, and the cycle goes on.

Honestly, it makes you wonder whether anyone is actually listening or if they’re just scrolling mindlessly. The discussions about the protests and the role of disinformation should be enlightening, but they often feel repetitive and bland. It’s hard to muster any excitement when the conversations feel so stale.

In the end, it’s just more noise in a world that’s already too loud. The protests might be important, but the chatbots and their disinformation are just taking away from the real issues at hand. This episode of Uncanny Valley might shed some light, but will anyone really care? Who knows.

  • LibreOffice Explains 'Real Costs' of Upgrading to Microsoft's Windows 11, Urges Taking Control with Linux

KDE isn't the only organization reaching out to " as Microsoft prepares to end support for Windows 10.

"Now, The Document Foundation, maker of LibreOffice, has also joined in to support the Endof10 initiative," reports the tech blog Neowin:
The foundation writes: "You don't have to follow Microsoft's upgrade path. There is a better option that puts control back in the hands of users, institutions, and public bodies: Linux and LibreOffice. Together, these two programmes offer a powerful, privacy-friendly and future-proof alternative to the Windows + Microsoft 365 ecosystem."

It further adds the "real costs" of upgrading to Windows 11 as it writes:

"The move to Windows 11 isn't just about security updates. It increases dependence on Microsoft through aggressive cloud integration, forcing users to adopt Microsoft accounts and services. It also leads to higher costs due to subscription and licensing models, and reduces control over how your computer works and how your data is managed. Furthermore, new hardware requirements will render millions of perfectly good PCs obsolete.... The end of Windows 10 does not mark the end of choice, but the beginning of a new era. If you are tired of mandatory updates, invasive changes, and being bound by the commercial choices of a single supplier, it is time for a change. Linux and LibreOffice are ready — 2025 is the right year to choose digital freedom!"
The first words on LibreOffice's announcement? "The countdown has begun...."
