• The President Is Dead (In Helldivers 2)

“The President of Super Earth has been killed in action by the Illuminate during the fall of Prosperity City.” That was the message that greeted Helldivers 2 players when they logged on last night in one last bid to repel their invading squid-like foes. Some truthers think the hit was inside job. When the dust settled Friday morning, the battle to save Super Earth was over and players had succeeded in winning the extraction shooter’s biggest showdown since it launched. Pus they got a new battle station to celebrate. Suggested ReadingThe Week In Games: Co-Op Bug Blasting And More New Releases

Share SubtitlesOffEnglishThe Week In Games: Co-Op Bug Blasting And More New Releases“The devastation wrought upon our home is immense,” read the latest in-game dispatch from Arrowhead Game Studios. “Only two Mega Cities remain standing: Prosperity City and Equality-on-Sea. The remainder have been vacated by the enemy, having suffered catastrophic damage at their hands.” New Major Orders are still pending, but in the meantime players get to vote on where to move the new DSS battle station that aided in the fight, and that provides extra military bonuses to Helldivers fighting on whatever planet it orbits. For anyone who missed the last two weeks, a brief series of entries on the Galactic Map recaps the events from the Illuminate’s arrival and torching of Mars and other planets, all the way through players’ epic last stand to protect Equality-on-Sea. A lot of creative military tactics were improvised and deployed to take down the massive invading Leviathan ships, and a wave of negative Steam reviews, purportedly from Chinese players angry, due to a potential mistranslation, about why they couldn’t seem to fully liberate Equality-on-Sea, appears to have subsided. What happens next is anyone’s guess. Arrowhead Game Studios might take some time before kicking off whatever it has planned to let players catch their breath. Maybe the development team is lining up a revenge campaign, or maybe there’s still another shoe to drop and Super Earth isn’t quite in the clear after all. A new president? In this economy? Maybe they’re just an Illuminate plant after all, ready to control Super Earth from within. The beauty of Helldivers 2's fascist space satire is that nothing is ever quite out of the question. May kicked off one of Helldivers 2's biggest balance patches and content updates in some time, including a new Warbond battle pass with additional melee weapons and the ability to level up and customize most of the shooter’s guns. I wouldn’t bet on any other big updates anytime soon. That said, Summer Game Fest is just around the corner and Arrowhead used host Geoff Keighley’s last big gaming showcase to announce the addition of the Illuminate to the fray. Who knows what’s in store for the second half of Helldivers 2's second year?.

  • "This is the endgame" Helldivers 2's battle for Super Earth has entered its "final phase", with agonising failure triggering an "all-out assault" on the final four cities

Time must fly when you're having fun. Or at least when you're defending Super Earth from a huge Illuminate invasio. Helldivers 2's latest major order is the "final phase" of the battle for the divers' home planet that's been raging since the Heart of Democracy update dropped on May 20.
I must admit, I thought the Galactic War twist that's brought the biggest number of Helldivers back to the game of any update it's gotten so far would last a bit longer than three MOs. Then again, this is Helldivers 2 - the war ain't anywhere close to over while there are still troops on the march and enemies to surf on.

First of all, the last major order, which expired earlier today, was a proper heartbreaker. After casually killing 2.5 billion Illuminate in the first stage of Super Earth's defense, players weren't quite able to successfully extract from missions against the Illuminate 20 million times. They got damn close, though.
So, with that, while the divers have worn the Illuminate fleet's strength down to an estimated "24% of its original operating power", only four of Super Earth's seven Mega Cities are left standing. Yep, two more have joined the brilliantly-named Eagleopolis as smouldering wrecks.
Cue Arrowhead's latest order, which declares the third phase of Super Earth's defense to be the final one. "High Command anticipates an all-out assault to take the final four Mega Cities," the studio wrote, "The Illuminate have spent a century preparing for this invasion; they will hold back nothing. What has come before was the preamble; this is the endgame...The Helldivers have their orders: HOLD Super Earth."

In order to do that, players'll need to dig in on Super Earth against the squids, while also scrapping 200 million Automatons so they can bring the Democracy Space Station back online to aid that first bit. As of writing, nearly 98 million bots have already been bashed in since the order debuted this morning.
Folks are seemingly going all out, no doubt buoyed by the fact today's little Helldivers 2 patch - 01.003.003 - made a very popular change to the Reinforced Epaulettes passive that comes with the armour sets from the recently deployed Masters of Ceremony Warbond. As well as making your limbs less likely to snap like twigs, you'll now be able to reload your primary weapon 30% faster and do 50% more melee damage when rocking the Parade Commander and Honorary Guard sets.
    Cue celebrations on Reddit.

Helldivers 2 has been a massive success for both Sony and Arrowhead since its launch in early 2024. It has been considerably bigger than its predecessor, although the first game still remains beloved by many. Fans of the first game would love to see more content from HD1, but Arrowhead has discussed the difficulties with bringing back content from the first game into Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 devs discuss difficulties with bringing back content from HD1
Arrowhead recently conducted a livestream to celebrate the launch of the Heart of Democracy update. The livestream was conducted with Arrowhead community manager, Mitch Ayre, as well as level designer, Vandela Bolin, along with community manager, Baskinator, serving as the moderator.
During the stream, they answered some questions from the community, and one question revolved around bringing back missions from HD1. In a snippet shared by Glitch Unlimited on YouTube, Bolin said that, although it’s a “cool idea” and Arrowhead know “people want to see more Helldivers 1 things return,” the studio “don’t just want to retread old ground with the first game”.
Bolin stated that Arrowhead “want to pick and choose some really special things to bring into Helldivers 2 from the first game,” and added that it’s all about “balance because some things were great and you want to bring them back,” but there is the issue that “the time it would take to recreate it would be the same time it would take to make something new”.
Community manager, Mitch, also explained that not everything is suitable or even possible because of the “complete change” from Helldivers 1 which was a top-down perspective whereas HD2 is third-person.
In an example explaining difficulties with the change in perspective, Bolin said, “I was very invested in wanting to recreate the metal detector mission from Helldivers 1, but it just doesn’t feel good in third-person”.
While not everything from HD1 can return, a lot of players do want enemies from the first game such as the Illusionist as part of the Illuminate. While the studio has teased the potential for more new enemies in the future, Arrowhead’s CCO has warned players “don’t want the Illusionist to arrive”.

The Illuminate have finally invaded Super Earth, and a week before their arrival Arrowhead added new Illuminate enemies with update 01.003.000. Although new enemies were added to the army of squids, a lot of players are still wondering if we’ve truly seen the full might of their force. While Arrowhead has suggested there is the possibility for new enemies to join the battlefield in the future, the CCO has warned Helldivers 2 players “don’t want the Illusionist to arrive”.
Helldivers 2 CCO warns players wanting the Illusionist
On the official Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, was asked if “the Leviathan is the only new unit for this update or will there be more bc I was expecting something like the complete roster since this is the real thing”. This question is regarding the Heart of Democracy update and whether the fleet of Illuminate currently invading Super Earth is their “complete roster”.
Baskinator responded by reminding how Arrowhead added “new enemies the week before” with the Stingray, Fleshmob, and Crescent Overseer. The community manager also said the Super Earth invasion “was kinda split into two updates, but it’s one whole ‘idea’”. Although the invasion is “one whole ‘idea’” that is now complete, there is the potential for new enemies to be added in the future as Baskinator teased, “You never know what’ll show up as we go along”.
One member of the Illuminate notably missing from Helldivers 1 is the Illusionist. On X, a user asked Arrowhead CCO, Pilestedt, when the Illusionist will arrive in Helldivers 2, to which Pilestedt warned, “You don’t want the illusionist to arrive…”.
Back in January, Iron_S1ghts leaked the return of the elite squid by posting screenshots of an “explosion effect used upon the death of an Illusionist”. This led everyone to believe the Illusionist would return from HD1, but, alas, they have not come back as of yet.
Although there are leaks suggesting the Illusionist could still return, nothing is official right now. Hopefully they will eventually rejoin the battlefield as part of the Illuminate fleet as more enemies is always a good thing.

While Arrowhead has suggested there is the possibility for new enemies to join the battlefield in the future, the CCO has warned Helldivers 2 players “don’t want the Illusionist to arrive”.   Helldivers 2 CCO warns players wanting the Illusionist On the official Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, was asked if “the Leviathan is the only new unit for this update or will there be more bc I was expecting something like the complete roster since this is the real thing”. Image credit: Helldivers Discord One member of the Illuminate notably missing from Helldivers 1 is the Illusionist. • Helldivers 2 CCO entertains possibility of SEAF moba or stratagem as players beg for them to stay

The Illuminate have finally invaded Super Earth, and it’s all hands on deck as Helldivers are ordered to “obliterate” billions of the squids to protect our home. To help in the fight against the army of aliens, SEAF troops are on the battlefield. Helldivers 2 players have immediately fallen in love with and want the SEAF troops to stay post-invasion. While there’s no guarantees this will happen, Arrowhead’s CCO has entertained the possibility of an SEAF moba or stratagem.
Helldivers 2 CCO entertains possibility of SEAF troops staying
There’s a lot of affection for the SEAF since the release of the Heart of Democracy update on May 20th. On the subreddit, there’s a post titled, “AH can we please keep them after the assault ends,” and, as of writing, it has 9.6K upvotes with nearly 450 comments echoing the sentiment.
While nothing is official, Arrowhead CCO, Pilestedt, has entertained the idea of them staying or at least having a role in the future. On X, one user suggested a “new game mode where we play as the SEAF”. Pilestedt responded, “I don’t think that will happen… but maybe something similar to a moba setting where you have to pave the way for SEAF? We’ll have to see”.
In another interaction, a user commented, “I really like the SEAF guys, maybe you guyscould add a stratagem to call in a 6-8 man squad of them via a Pelican or two? Maybe fast rope down, to help reduce landing area issues?”. In response, Pilestedt teased, “We’ll see what happens”.
Neither of these replies guarantee a future role for the SEAF post-Super Earth invasion, but at least the idea is being entertained rather than being completely shut down. If the SEAF do disappear once the Illuminate invasion is over, hopefully Arrowhead will be able to implement another role for them, but, if not, at least players will be able to remember the time spent together rebelling against the Illuminate.

  • Helldivers 2 battle for Super Earth will “span multiple Major Orders” with players ordered to “obliterate” billions of Illuminate

You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here

The Illuminate has finally invaded Super Earth. PlayStation leaked the date for the Heart of Democracy update, and Arrowhead has just shared the patch notes for the update. In addition, the developer has just now shared the first Major Order in preventing the fall of Super Earth. Arrowhead has warned that the battle for Super Earth will “span multiple Major Orders,” and right now Helldivers 2 players are ordered to “obliterate” billions of Illuminate.
Helldivers 2 battle for Super Earth Major Order requires players to kill billions of Illuminate
On the Helldivers Discord, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, has shared the first major order for the Heart of Democracy. This Major Order asks players to “obliterate Illuminate forces,” and, to achieve this, players need to kill a total of 2,500,000,000 Illuminate. The reward for completing the Major Order is a Warbond medal.
While killing 2,500,000,000 Illuminate is a colossal feat, it’s only step one. Per Arrowhead’s announcement, the battle for Super Earth is “anticipated to span multiple Major Orders”. We don’t know how many Major Orders there will be, but there are seven Mega Cities, and, if all of them fall, Super Earth will be lost.
To achieve the goal, Super Earth soldiers are permitted to kill with the “fullest extent of warranted and vindictive prejudice permitted under galactic law”. In the battlefield, players want to remeber that “We fight not just for Freedom, but for the survival of all we hold dear. Together, we will show our would-be oppressors the full might of Managed Democracy”.

We all know Super Earth is set to be invaded by the Illuminate as even Arrowhead have warned it is inevitable. Previously, gameplay leaks of the Illuminate attacking Super Earth have leaked, and now fresh Helldivers 2 leaks have shown even more of the impending Super Earth invasion, while also providing a long list of Mega Cities set to be attacked.

Prominent Helldivers 2 leaker, Iron_S1ghts, has a Discord dedicated to datamining discoveries. In this Discord, there are some fresh images of the upcoming Super Earth invasion, with SEAF troops accompanying players on the battlefield.

In addition to the above images, HD2 YouTuber Thordan Smash has revealed on X that, as per Iron_S1ghts, “In addition to to Super Earth and Cyberstan getting Mega Cities In Helldivers 2 it looks like Klen Dahth II Event planet will also be getting them”.

We don’t know when the Super Earth invasion is set to happen, but PlayStation Czech Republic may have accidentally leaked May 20th as the date for a next major update called Heart of Democracy. However, this post was quickly deleted by the PlayStation account, so it may not be accurate and there’s always the possibility of internal delays.
Iron_S1ghts has said “May 20/21 matches when the illuminate should hit SE,” but “Dates with game updates are typically pretty spontaneous, even internally”. We will just have to wait and see if the update comes out as posted by PlayStation, and we also have to wait and see if we get the leaked new car.

  • New Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 patch notes fix “spamming bug” as players exclaim “thank god”

You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here

Update 01.003.000 was huge for Helldivers 2 as it kicked off the return of the Illuminate with new enemies added to their army, and it also introduced weapon customization, delivered lot of balance changes, and provided a lot of fixes. However, it also introduced an exploitable bug causing HD2 to crash for a lot of players. Fortunately, the Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 emergency hotfix patch notes fix this “spamming bug,” and Arrowhead has also shared a workaround for a store issue on the PS5.
Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 emergency hotfix patch notes
The only patch note for the Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 emergency hotfix is as follows:

Fix for the Stratagem spamming bug that caused severe crashing.

This is fantastic news. Arrowhead announced on May 15th that a fix was “tentatively scheduled for tomorrow,” so it’s good that the developers were able to release the patch as planned. For those unaware or never encountered the glitch, the “spamming bug” basically duplicated stratagems resulting in the game constantly crashing for players due to others exploiting the glitch for nefarious reasons.
Reacting to the update on Reddit, the community is understandably elated. There are a lot of comments simply echoing the sentiment, “thank god,” meanwhile, one user commented, “Just found out about it yesterday and I found it very undemocratic”. However, despite the overwhelming support for the fix, there are couple of disappointed comments such as, “What a shame, seeing how much we can abuse it before the whole thing just crashes was the most fun I’ve had in the game in months”.
In addition to the fix for the “Stratagem spamming bug,” Arrowhead has also shared a workaround for a store issue on the PS5. The below comes courtesy of the known issues webpage:

The Super Store skips pages when attempting to buy an item on the first page when using PS5 in Quality mode. Please switch to Performance mode as a workaround while we solve this issue!

There’s also the following known issues that still exist after being introduced in 01.003.000:

Circle key binding has no functionality if a Player wants to leave the Customization screen without saving changes to the attachments.
Guard Dog flies away instead of reloading

New Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 patch notes fix “spamming bug” as players exclaim “thank god”

Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here Update 01.003.000 was huge for Helldivers 2 as it kicked off the return of the Illuminate with new enemies added to their army, and it also introduced weapon customization, delivered lot of balance changes, and provided a lot of fixes. Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 emergency hotfix patch notes The only patch note for the Helldivers 2 update 01.003.001 emergency hotfix is as follows: Fix for the Stratagem spamming bug that caused severe crashing. The below comes courtesy of the known issues webpage: The Super Store skips pages when attempting to buy an item on the first page when using PS5 in Quality mode. Please switch to Performance mode as a workaround while we solve this issue! There’s also the following known issues that still exist after being introduced in 01.003.000: Circle key binding has no functionality if a Player wants to leave the Customization screen without saving changes to the attachments. • Helldivers 2 dev confirms they’re aware of “stratagem spawning glitch” and are “preparing a hotfix” for release soon

There’s a lot to look forward to in Helldivers 2. PlayStation has seemingly leaked the date of the next HD2 major update, and it’s right around the corner. The invasion of Super Earth has also been deemed inevitable by Arrowhead, and a leaker has shared gameplay of “Super Earth Mega Cities” under attack with “SEAF troops on the battlefield” and more. While the next big update seems to be arriving in less than a week, before then Arrowhead are aiming to fix the Helldivers 2 “stratagem spawning glitch” that is irking many players.
Helldivers 2 dev confirms hotfix incoming for “stratagem spawning glitch”
Since the release of Helldivers 2 update 01.003.000 on May 13th, there have been complaints about a “stratagem spawning glitch”. Fortunately, on Discord, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, has just confirmed the studio is aware of the glitch and that they are “preparing a hotfix tentatively scheduled for tomorrow”.

As of writing, this means the current intent from Arrowhead is to release the hotfix on May 16th. However, because it’s “tentatively scheduled for tomorrow,” there is the possibility it may not come out as planned.
On Reddit, there have been complaints about the glitch since the release of update 01.003.000. Basically, the glitch is a duplication bug, and one Reddit post shows gameplay of someone calling in “100 380mm barrages,” resulting in just pure carnage.
Aside from the duplication bug simply existing, the big problem is that it is causing the game to frequently crash for many players. According to one comment, “orbital gas strikes, any support items and any turrets seem fine and don’t cause crashes,” but “barrage, gatling, most eagles, and especially any vehicles,” have a “high chance of game crashing”.
Another Reddit post begs people to please stop abusing the glitch because “every match someone is doing it and it constantly causes me to crash”. In this Reddit thread, one user bemoaned, “Just crashed at extraction on a tier 9 mission because one moron did this. The run was so fun otherwise, I can’t ever enjoy one thing man…”.
Fortunately, for frustrated players, a hotfix is incoming and planned for May 16th. Hopefully it comes out as “tentatively scheduled” so Super Earth soldiers can go back to enjoying the game.

  • Helldivers 2 is Seemingly Getting a Major Update on May 20

It looks like developer Arrowhead Game Studios isn’t content with just having released its latest major update for Helldivers 2. The studio is seemingly planning a bigger event where the fate of Super Earth might hang in the balance. A now-deleted post made by the official PlayStation social media account for the Czech Republic has indicated that May 20 will see the release of an event dubbed Heart of Democracy.
“Super Earth is in danger,” posted the PlayStation account, as spotted by X user Iron_S1ghts. “All Helldivers must report to their Hellpods immediately. The battle for humanity itself begins! The big update ‘Heart of Democracy’ is coming out on May 20.” The post was accompanied by a warning image boasting of a “Galactic Emergency” along with the text “Calling all Helldivers.”
While the post has been deleted and was likely posted early by accident, the supposed ‘Heart of Democracy’ update will be a big follow-up to the major update Helldivers 2 earlier this week. The update brought with it a host of new content, and revolves around the Illuminate invading Super Earth. Among other things, the update brought with it new enemies, like the Stingray and the Crescent Overseer, as well as new gameplay features.
Core among these new features is the ability for players to now level up most of their primary weapons. By simply playing Helldivers 2 and completing objectives, players will be able to unlock customisation options for their primary weapons, including under-barrel attachments, magazine types and muzzle attachments. Rather than simply being cosmetic additions, these attachments add functionality to the player’s weapon of choice.
Later this week, Arrowhead Game Studios will also be releasing the Masters of Ceremony Warbond. Included in the Warbond are a host of new weapons, like the R-2 Amendment rifle that also features a bayonet for quick melee attacks, a new melee weapon in the form of the CQC-2 Sabre, as well as the new G-142 Pyrotech Grenade, which can be used to set enemies on fire.
Along with new weaponry, the Masters of Ceremony Warbond also includes a host of new armour pieces that give players the Reinforced Epaulettes perk that allows them to last longer in fights without having to worry about broken limbs.
The upcoming Warbond comes two months after the previous one, and the studio was well aware that it hadn’t released a major update for Helldivers 2 in quite some time. Earlier this month, the studio took to social media to apologise for the gap in Warbonds and overall silence when it comes to major updates.
“We know it’s been a while since our last update, fear not—we are cooking,” posted the studio. “You may have noticed that the gap between our major updates and Warbond releases is a little longer this time. But we’re happy to say we’ll be announcing our next Warbond on May 8, and there will be more exciting news to come not long after.”
Helldivers 2 is available on PC and PS5.
