• GTA 6 Trailer Gets PS2-Style Visual Treatment

Earlier this month, the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was finally released by Rockstar Games, and as Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick put it, it "broke the internet." To date, it has over one billion views on YouTube, so it was inevitable that fans would remix the original trailer into a new form. Now, someone has released a remake of the GTA 6 trailer with a PlayStation 2-inspired makeover. The PS2 Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was posted on YouTube by a user called Foosmoke, and there appears to be some subtle humor in this video. There's clipping when Jason robs the convenience store, which is definitely true to a PS2 experience. Jason also appears to have more trouble lifting weights in this version than he did in the actual trailer. The Vice City glimpsed in this trailer remake is also noticeably less populated than the one seen in the original trailer. The PS2-era GTA games couldn't handle subtle expressions and body language in their character models like the new game can. And without those touches, this take on the GTA 6 trailer doesn't have the same resonance as the original.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • [IGN] Fans concerned about Borderlands 4 Potentially Costing $80, Gearbox's Randy P. Says: ‘If You’re a Real Fan, You’ll Find a Way to Make it happen'

As Gamers Express Concern About Borderlands 4 Potentially Costing Gearbox Chief Randy Pitchford Says: ‘If You’re a Real Fan, You’ll Find a Way to Make It Happen’ - IGN

Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford has responded to a fan who expressed concern about the prospect of paying for Borderlands 4, saying: “if you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen.”

    www.ign.com

    The Quote

    Here's the exchange:

"Randy, this game better not be 80 dollars. Don't take that risk, a lot of gamers aren't gonna pay 80 dollars and feed this notion of constant increase of the price tag. You are the CEO, you have some say with the price when it comes to your publisher."

    And here's Randy Pitchford's response:

"A) Not my call. B) If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen. My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen."

Unsure of the price, and it's not his call

Last week, during a PAX East panel, Pitchford insisted that he didn't know the Borderlands 4 price but refused to rule out "I'll tell you the truth. I don't know. That is the truth. I'll hit it straight on. It's an interesting time," he said.

"On one level, we've got a competitive marketplace where the people that make those choices want to sell as many units as possible and they want to be careful about people that are price-sensitive. There are some folks who don't want to see prices go up, even the ones deciding what the prices are.

Take-Two Boss is open to In a recent interview, IGN asked Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick if the company would go to for its games. Zelnick wouldn't say either way, but did say consumers would be "willing to pay for the very best."

"I have said for a long time that we offer enormous value and that that's our job," Zelnick said. "Of course, we certainly believe that compared to other forms of entertainment, whether that's movie tickets or live events or streaming services, the value for our entertainment that we offer is just astonishing, and it's our job. It's our job to deliver much more value than what we charge. That's our goal. We think consumers are willing to pay for the very best. It's our job to make the very best."

    More at the Link

Firstly, if the game is going to cost I would HOPE that means the Switch 2 version would be on the cart. Game-Key prices are going to garner even more ire when they're used for fully priced titles instead of "cheaper" releases.

With that said, 2K was one of the first publishers to instantly jump on the price raise when the PS5/XSX launched, so I would definitely expect to be the new norm in the US for any titles from them and Borderlands 4 being the start wouldn't be a stretch. I am curious to see how the higher base price impacts games where selling a season pass alongside it is a big deal. Could just be everything costs more across the board, but I guess we'll see.

Sometimes it really is better to not say anything at all. Much, much easier too.

Like, before you say something publicly, think to yourself "am I about to say something incredibly out of touch that makes me sound like a prick, even if I really strongly believe it?". Randy and lot of these execs seem to lack that filter.

He's right but it sounds obnoxious to say that out loud lmao. Borderlands is a series whose games are always packed with content and post-launch support so it's not like these guys are trying to sell you a 15 hour game that you'll play once and then never touch again. For games like this the value proposition is still high even at

• Take-Two Interactive, Publisher of ‘GTA,’ Plans $1 Billion Stock Offering

“Grand Theft Auto” publisher Take-Two Interactive is planning to sell off billion of its common stock.

In addition to the public offering, which was announced Tuesday, the video game giant will give underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional million of shares. The offering is subject to market conditions.

Per the company, “Take-Two intends to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes, which may include the repayment of outstanding debt and future acquisitions.”

Take-Two, which is the parent company to Rockstar Games, 2K and Zynga, saw its shares drop nearly 3% in after-hours trading Tuesday upon news of the stock sale.

    Popular on Variety

The public offering announcement comes less than a week out from Take-Two reporting its latest earnings results, which included a writedown of more than billion. That was on the heels of the publisher revealing on May 2 that its highly anticipated Rockstar Games-developed “Grand Theft Auto 6” would be shifting from a planned fall 2025 release to a May 26, 2026 launch.

Speaking with Variety last week about the earnings results and anticipation for the company’s fiscal 2026, Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said “obviously, the net bookings that are expected for Fiscal ’26 are lower without the release of ‘GTA 6,’ that goes without saying,” adding: “But we haven’t actually parsed what the specific effect is, although analysts have speculated.”

“I think the key point to bear in mind is, once again, we’re setting a record, which is what we said we would do,” Zelnick said. “We certainly expect growth in Fiscal ’27. This company is in extraordinarily sound shape and well positioned both for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Speaking with Variety last week about the earnings results and anticipation for the company’s fiscal 2026 (which runs April 1, 2025-March 31, 2026), Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said “obviously, the net bookings that are expected for Fiscal ’26 are lower without the release of ‘GTA 6,’ that goes without saying,” adding: “But we haven’t actually parsed what the specific effect is, although analysts have speculated.” “I think the key point to bear in mind is, once again, we’re setting a record, which is what we said we would do,” Zelnick said. “We certainly expect growth in Fiscal ’27. This company is in extraordinarily sound shape and well positioned both for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Worried the impending arrival of games might price you out of your favourite hobby? Well if Borderlands 4 follows suit, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has suggested the community should just suck it up and deal with it. "If you're a real fan," he recently told a potential purchaser, "you'll find a way to make it happen."

Pitchford made the proclamation on social media after a Borderlands fan opined, "Randy, better not be Don't take that risk, a lot of gamers aren't gonna pay and feed this notion of constant increase of the price tag. You are the CEO, you have some say with the price when it comes to your publisher."

But Pitchford begged to differ. "Not my call," he insisted, before dismissing pricing concerns. "If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen. My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlour in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen."

The response from Borderlands fans on social media was, unsurprisingly, swift, strong, and overwhelmingly negative. "Thanks, now I won't buy the Game even if it costs ", one person wrote, while another added, "That has to be one of the worst CEO replies from recent memory." Another called Pitchford's comment "elitistout of touch"; "Rich person says just find the money," another wrote, with plenty more using considerably stronger language.

Of course, none of this means Borderlands 4 will cost dollars when it eventually arrives, but the industry certainly seems to be heading in that direction. Nintendo got the ball rolling earlier this year, when it announced a USD price tag for Mario Kart World on Switch 2, and Microsoft was quick to follow, confirming some Xbox game prices would rise to at the end of 2025 - presumably in time for this year's Call of Duty.

Notably, however, Borderlands 4 publisher Take-Two has relayed a more cautious approach to price increases, with CEO Strauss Zelnick recently reiterating the company's stance on variable, game-by-game pricing. While some analysts have speculated next year's GTA 6 might reach as much as one of the only confirmed prices on Take-Two's upcoming roster is Mafia: The Old Country, which costs Borderlands 4 pricing details are yet to be shared.

But while customers might balk at the rising cost of games, former PlayStation exec Shuhei Yoshida recently suggested the move was inevitable. "I think it was going to happen sooner or later," he explained in the wake of Mario Kart World's price reveal, "maybe not from Nintendo, but it was going to happen eventually. We live in contrasting times, where inflation is real and significant, but people expect games that are ever more ambitious and therefore expensive to develop to cost the same. It's an impossible equation."

As for Borderlands 4, that's set to launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on 12th September after Take-Two announced it was bringing its release forward.

  • "If You're A Real Fan, You'll Find A Way" - Borderlands 4 Dev Gives Tone Deaf Response To Price Concerns

Image: 2KFollowing concerns that the upcoming Borderlands 4 would match Mario Kart World's price tag, Gearbox Software founder Randy Pitchford has provided a pretty tone deaf response on social media when a fan addressed the topic directly.
As covered by IGN, Pitchford stated that "if you're a real fan, you'll find a way" when addressing the potential price for Borderlands 4. He notes that he was able to do the same for Starflight on the Sega Genesis back in 1991.
Pitchford's comment went down about as well as you'd expect. One user replied with "No way you actually said this s***....", while another said "As someone who's been a big supporter of this franchise, this is a slap in the face".
It's important to note that the price for Borderlands 4 hasn't been finalised at the time of writing, but Take-Two's boss Strauss Zelnick has not ruled it out, stating that people would be “willing to pay for the very best".
There's currently no release date for Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2, but the game is scheduled to launch on other platforms later this year on 12th September 2025 after the launch date was moved forward.
Pitchford also appeared in a recent Creator's Voice video for the Switch 2, praising the Switch 2 and calling it "very powerful".

"We don't feel like we're fighting the system"

Grand Theft Auto 6 Studio Aims to “Create the Best Thing Ever Seen in Entertainment” – Take-Two CEO
Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick says the delay reflects "the desire to polish and create the best possible experience for consumers."

Posted By Ravi Sinha | On 18th, May. 2025

The delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 caused huge ripples in the industry, matched only by its second trailer dropping a few days later. Amid the renewed hype and optimism, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, said the team strives to create “the best thing anyone’s ever seen in entertainment, not just interactive entertainment.”
In a new interview with CNBC about the delay, Zelnick said, “The key thing is that Rockstar Games is trying to create the best thing anyone’s ever seen in entertainment, not just interactive entertainment. That’s a tall order, and I think consumers have huge hopes for the title.
“But the delay itself is really a reflection of the desire to polish and create the best possible experience for consumers, and we as a company have been known not to have a sort of slavish devotion to release dates but rather to seek the highest quality entertainment.”
Of course, there’s always the possibility of further slippage. Zelnick warned of the same earlier this year when the open-world title was slated for this Fall. However, he stated that when the company generally announced a date, “We’re able to hit that date.” That’s certainly been the case with Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, with both titles suffering delays before receiving definitive release dates.
That could always change with Grand Theft Auto 6, but, as always, time will tell. It’s out on May 26th, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our feature outlining various small details here. You can also learn more about how it started development in 2020 “in earnest” here.
