TECHCRUNCH.COMHillary Clinton joins BlueskyFormer Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has joined Bluesky, following in the footsteps of former president Barack Obama, who made his first post on the platform last week. Clinton confirmed her Bluesky accounts legitimacy in an Instagram story and a post on X.In her introductory post, Clinton wrote about the Wisconsin Supreme Court election taking place on Tuesday. The state judicial race is getting unprecedented attention on both sides of the aisle, since it determines the political bent of the swing states court, which will impact rulings on abortion rights, redistricting, and other issues.Musk has allegedly pumped more than $20 million into Republican candidate Brad Schimels campaign; he gave Trumps 2024 campaign around $250 million. Like his strategies during Trumps presidential run, Musk gave two Schimel voters checks for $1 million each. As X owner Elon Musk becomes more entrenched in the Trump administration, Bluesky has continued to emerge as an alternative social platform for people disillusioned by Musks politics and Xs shift to the right. Though Blueskys reach is smaller than that of the platform formerly known as Twitter, the open source network has north of 33 million users. But as Bluesky attracts high-profile users like Clinton and Obama, the platform is building more legitimacy as a competitor to X.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos

TECHCRUNCH.COMOpenAI plans to release a new open AI language model in the coming monthsOpenAI says that it intends to release its first open language model since GPT2 in the coming months. Thats according to a feedback form the company published on its website Monday. The form, which OpenAI is inviting developers, researchers, and [members of] the broader community to fill out, includes questions like, What would you like to see in an open-weight model from OpenAI? and What open models have you used in the past? Were excited to collaborate with developers, researchers, and the broader community to gather inputs and make this model as useful as possible, OpenAI wrote on its website. If youre interested in joining a feedback session with the OpenAI team, please let us know [in the form] below.OpenAI plans to host developer events to gather feedback and, in the future, demo prototypes of the model. The first developer event will take place in San Francisco within a few weeks, followed by sessions in Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.OpenAI is facing increasing pressure from rivals such as Chinese AI lab DeepSeek that have adopted an open approach to launching models. In contrast to OpenAIs strategy, these open competitors make their models available to the AI community for experimentation and, in some cases, commercialization. It has proven to be a wildly successful strategy for some outfits. Meta, which has invested heavily in its Llama family of open AI models, said earlier in March that Llama had racked up over 1 billion downloads. Meanwhile, DeepSeek has quickly amassed a large worldwide user base and attracted the attention of domestic investors. In a recent Reddit Q&A, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that he thinks OpenAI has been on the wrong side of history when it comes to open-sourcing its technologies.[I personally think we need to] figure out a different open source strategy, Altman said. Not everyone at OpenAI shares this view, and its also not our current highest priority[] We will produce better models [going forward], but we will maintain less of a lead than we did in previous years.Altman expanded on OpenAIs open model plans in a post on X on Monday afternoon, saying that OpenAIs upcoming open model will have reasoning capabilities along the lines of OpenAIs o3-mini.[B]efore release, we will evaluate this model according [to] our preparedness framework, like we would for any other model, Altman said. [A]nd we will do extra work given that we know this model will be modified post-release [] [W]ere excited to see what developers build and how large companies and governments use it where they prefer to run a model themselves.Excerpts of a forthcoming book by Wall Street Journal reporter Keach Hagey published over the weekend allege that Altman misled OpenAI executives about model safety reviews prior to his brief ouster in November 2023.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos

All photos by Jenny Gorman, courtesy of Hesse Flatow, shared with permissionFlowers Entwine Porcelain Animals and Objects in Lizzie Gills Surreal TablescapesMarch 31, 2025ArtGrace EbertTo have something be uncanny, you must first introduce the familiar, says Lizzie Gill. Likening her compositions to a dining tables place settings, the artist paints elaborate still lifes that explore the matriarchal lineages and how objects passed down shift in meaning over time. The vivid works feature flat backdrops met by boldly striped or floral linens and a menagerie of animals seized by fresh blooms. A marble and dust emulsion, which Gill layers on the acrylic-painted panel with a bakers piping tool, adds a life-like texture to the petals. She also utilizes an image-transfer process to translate various pieces from her mothers porcelain collection, further enmeshing her works in domestic traditions.Wedgwood (Nightlines) II (2025), acrylic, image transfer and marble dust emulsion on panel, 30 x 24 inchesThe still life, Gill says, is her preferred platform for exploring the tenets of Surrealism and what it means to be a steward. In Lunar Still Life (Avec Lhippopotame), for example, long stems coil around an animated porcelain seal and hippo rendered in delicate blue and white. Still Life With Four Cerulean Vessels is similarly lively as a miniature fox with a vine wrapped around its torso wanders across the tablescape.Decorating the vases are unlikely scenes depicting volcanic eruptions, rocket launches, and even a menacing twister ripping across the terrain. Embellishing antique forms with contemporary imagery, the works juxtapose the calm propriety associated with domestic spaces and world-changing, explosive actions generated by both humans and nature.Based in Sharon, Connecticut, Gill is currently researching historic textiles for upcoming works, and those shown here are on view in her solo exhibition Paraphernalia through April 26 at Hesse Flatow. WWW.ZDNET.COMI picked the 21+ best Amazon Spring Sale headphone deals - that end tonightWhen is Amazon's Spring Sale 2025?This year, Amazon's Big Spring Sale begins on March 25 and ends on March 31.Are headphones and earbuds really cheaper during Amazon sales?Yes, you can find many headphones and earbuds at cheaper prices during Amazon's sales. However, the spring sale typically offers smaller discounts than Amazon's fall and holiday sales later in the year. During Amazon's sales, headphone and earbud brands also slash prices on their sites to compete for your dollars. Sometimes, prices are lower at other retailers, so you should compare factors like prices, return policies, and free items included with your purchase before buying. If you want all-time low prices on the latest headphones and earbuds, wait until later in the year. How did we choose these Spring Sale deals?I spend most of my time testing the latest headphones and earbuds and revisiting headphones and earbuds released in past years to provide our readers with the most sound buying advice. I also noticed products' retail prices and when the lowest prices were offered, typically later in the year.Additionally, by retesting products, I can determine if they're still worth hundreds of dollars a year or two later. If they are, I will still recommend them during significant sales. Another factor I consider is when newly-released products are on sale; if a product I recommended was released six months ago and is already on sale, I'll notify our readers to take advantage of the sale price. What are the best Amazon Spring Sale 2025 deals?ZDNET's experts are searching through Amazon's Spring Sale deals to find the best discounts by category. WWW.FORBES.COMAI In Education - Up-level Your Teaching With AI By Cloning YourselfWASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 12: The headquarters of the Department of Education are shown March 12, 2025 ... More in Washington, DC. The Department of Education announced yesterday that it will reduce its staff by nearly 50 percent, leaving the department with 2,183 workers, a reduction from 4,133 when U.S. President Donald Trump took office for his second term. (Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images)Getty ImagesAI agents will transform every industryand one industry I know well is education. So, how will AI agents change how we teach and learn? To explore this question, I created the Lutz-Clone, an AI version of myself designed to teach my online certificate about AI with eCornell. This clone looks like me, but more importantly, it contains my knowledge and teaching style. It can help students code, discuss AI applications, and raise awareness of ethical challenges all without me being physically present.eCornell was one of the first universities to offer such a clone, but this is only the beginning. The shift to AI agents is a broader trend that will reshape every industry. Also In Education - AI Is Just A Tool To Serve Our PurposeIf you follow me on LinkedIn, youve probably heard me say: AI is just a tool. Theres no magic, and no Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)at least not yet. Like any tool, AIs value lies in how we use it and what purpose it serves.AI Is Changing EducationToday, students and educators alike use tools like Perplexity, You.com, and ChatGPT to write emails, research topics, and summarize texts. These Large Language Models have become essential, trained to predict the next best word in a sentence, enabling smooth text generation and summarization. For students, Large Language Models have become indispensable. And while some institutions attempt to restrict their use saying "don't use ChatGPT" this is as unrealistic as banning the internet or books. The real question is: What are the meaningful changes in education?AI in Eduction: Conversations Instead of QuizzesTraditional quizzes are becoming obsolete. Standardized tests like the Medical College Admission Test can now easily be solved by AI. In my own courses, I built a library of multiple-choice questions over the years to test students on machine learning and real-world AI applications. Since 2023, ChatGPT has consistently passed every single one of them.If AI can answer the questionwhy even ask?Instead, we should shift from quizzes to conversations. In a world where knowledge is instantly accessible, education should focus on critical thinking and dialogue. I now use AI to discuss outcomes with students, encouraging them to evaluate, question, and apply their knowledge something multiple-choice tests could never achieve.Transformation Of Education Towards AIThis change isnt limited to my course. Every teacher can implement this. The simplest way is to use a GPT-based assistant. But, like any change, it comes with challenges:AI Curated Key PointsTeachers cant just post articles anymore. To enable meaningful AI discussions, we need to highlight the key takeaways. For example, when we created a GPT to discuss Marc Andreessens article Why AI Will Save the World, we focused the conversation on three points:There is hype.It makes sense for Marc to talk about the hype.Technology needs integration.AI Access:Not every student has access to paid versions of ChatGPT or similar tools. Thats why the team at eCornell did the incredible work of seamlessly integrating my Lutz-Clone and ChatGPT into the Canvas learning platform. This ensures teaching assistants can follow all student discussions and step in when needed.AI Guided Questions Instead of ChecklistsIve long used checklists in my teaching whether its launching a product, building an AI model, or cleaning up data. But not every situation requires every step in the checklist. Now, we use AI co-pilots to make checklists dynamic. These co-pilots guide students to focus on what matters most, adapt when conditions change, and skip unnecessary steps. The AI does the heavy lifting, while students stay focused on decision-making and learning.Personalized Feedback An AI Teacher Available 24/7In my course, AI-based teaching assistants provide tailored feedback on student projects. Students upload their capstone work, and the AI critiques itjust like I would. This gives students access to a personalized teacher anytime, anywhere. Its a game-changer.Am I truly replaced? Not entirely. What Ive done is scale myself. The AI mirrors my teaching style and follows the courses learning path. Unlike generic AI tools, this clone is fine-tuned to introduce concepts logically and progressively. For example, I often explain that neural networks are just stacks of logistic regressionsa simplification that only makes sense after students learn about linear functions and activation functions. The future of education is not about letting ChatGPT teach students directly. Its about educators designing learning pathsand then using AI to scale their impact.AI in EducationAI is a powerful tool, but its still just a tool. It will change our workflows and how we teach, but the core responsibility remains with educators. We must focus on two essential skills:How to use AI effectivelyHow to recognize its limitsAI models like ChatGPT excel at predictable, patterned tasks but struggle with novelty and edge cases. For instance, when you start the phrase Life is like a box of, AI will almost always suggest chocolatesbecause thats what it has seen most often. But real learning happens when we move beyond the obvious.Similarly, when asking AI to do advanced, context-specific tasks, like writing firewall code, the output is often outdated or generic. Educators must help students recognize these limitations and teach them how to use AI critically.AI In Education - A New Way of InteractionAI tools are revolutionizing how we interact with information and technology. In my course, students now use AI co-pilots to:Analyze dataBuild machine learning modelsDiscuss business strategiesExplore ethical challengesHowever, this transition wasnt automatic. Many students were hesitant at first, sticking to manual methods. But with training on prompting and understanding AI behavior, they became faster, more efficient, and more confident.Just like learning to use a calculator or Google effectively, learning to collaborate with AI takes practice. The Future Of Education is AIAI is reshaping educationmoving us away from memorization toward reasoning, understanding, and critical thinking. With personalized AI tutors, students can learn at their own pace, anytime. The challenge is clear: Educational institutions must equip both students and educators with the tools and skills to harness AI effectively.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos

TIME.COMWhat the TikTok Ban Deadline Could Mean for the Apps FutureDespite a last-minute save by President Donald Trump in January, the fate of TikTok remains murky as the deadline to save the app approaches. TikTok, which boasts more than 170 million users, has been under fire by U.S. legislators over concerns about data privacy and national security. In order to save the app, Trump gave the social media site until April 5 to divest and find a U.S.-based owner. Under his previous term, Trump was the acting force seeking to ban TikTok in the U.S. But the President seemed favorable towards the app following his election win, citing it as part of why he secured support from young voters."We have a lot of potential buyers," Trump said on Air Force One Sunday. "I'd like to see Tiktok remain alive." Trump indicated that he would extend the deadline if a deal was not finalized. China has indicated that it would not support the forced sale of TikTok.The latest tussle is just the most recent development in the long legal battle to keep TikTok available in the U.S. Efforts to ban TikTok in Montana were overturned by a federal judge in 2023 after creators filed suit against the state.TikTok did not immediately respond to TIMEs request for comment.Heres what to know.Who currently owns TikTok?TikTok is owned by its Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance. Sixty percent of the company is owned by investors including Carlyle Group, General Atlantic, and Susquehanna International Group, according to TikToks U.S. Data Security page. The remaining 40% is divided between ByteDance employees and the founder of ByteDance.TikTok is not available in mainland China and has headquarters in Los Angeles and Singapore. But its parent company does have to comply with Chinese law because it operates other video first platforms such as Douyin, the Chinese-equivalent of TikTok. The Chinese government therefore has a golden share of one of its subsidiaries, Douyin, owning about 1% of that app.Why is the U.S. banning TikTok?Congress passed a TikTok ban as part of a foreign aid supplemental package, citing national security concerns. Lawmakers were particularly concerned that the company could share data with the Chinese government or interfere with users algorithms in a way that would benefit the foreign government. Chinese national security laws require any companies or organizations to cooperate with the countrys national intelligence efforts.Congress is not acting to punish ByteDance, TikTok or any other individual company, Senate Commerce Committee Chairwoman Maria Cantwell said in April 2024. Congress is acting to prevent foreign adversaries from conducting espionage, surveillance, maligned operations, harming vulnerable Americans, our servicemen and women, and our U.S. government personnel.Already, the app is not permitted on any government-owned devices in the U.S. Other countries, including India have banned TikTok for all users since 2020, while Australia and Canada similarly forbade TikTok from operating on any devices issued by the federal government. What can Trump do to extend the deadline? The current April 5 deadline was issued via Executive Order. Trump could possibly issue another such order to extend the deadline. Can you still use TikTok if it is banned? The last time the app was banned, U.S.-based users were unable to comment, share, or view any videos. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you cant use TikTok for now, a message on a gray background read during the one-day TikTok pause. Even when the app was restored, TikTok was unavailable for download on the Apple and Google Play stores until mid-February.It is unclear whether another potential ban would function similarly to the previous one.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos
