  • Trump is coming for renewable energybut the solar industry isnt worried
    www.fastcompany.com
President Donald Trump has been clear that his vision for Americas energy landscape prioritizes fossil fuels. He has curtailed federal funds for renewable energyand has voiced his personal distaste for those projects, particularly wind farms. Hes talked about ramping up coal and increasing oil drilling, and hesthreatened to completely undo the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).But even amid all that, the solar industry is still somewhat optimistic about its future. Solar just makes sense, industry players sayespecially if we need to increase our energy production, and do so fast.I keep on reminding people that solar energy is as competitive as natural gas now, its as cheap as any form of energy, and it can be built quicker than any form of energy, says George Strobel, cofounder and co-CEO of Monarch Private Capital, which invests in renewable energy and affordable-housing projects.A solar project can be built within two years, he notes. To get a new natural gas facility up and running takes around five or six years. That means new gas projects that arent in development now likely wont be adding to the energy grid before 2030. That wont help with the concerns around the grid resilience were facing nowand currently, there are tremendous concerns around grid reliability and resilience, Strobel adds. Solar, instead, could be quickly set up to provide microgrids that help maintain that resilience.Thats why solar energy still appeals to utility companies, and utilities are even campaigning on Capitol Hill for solar energy, Strobel says. There is some surprising supportat least as far as the [Trump] administration is concernedfor the solar industry, coming from the utility sector.Thats not to say there isnt uncertainty. The Trump administrations whiplash actions, including rapidly changing tariff policies and a series of climate rollbacks (a stark change from Bidens efforts), are creating some instability for businesses at large. Anytime we have uncertainty, its going to create a problem in the industry, Strobel says. That has caused some solar projects to pause or investments to slow down. But even if that continues through 2025, Strobel expects companies to push back projects by just a year, and for solar demand to pick up again in 2026. (Thats also partially because the current Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires at the end of 2025, so by next year, there will at least be less unknowns around taxes, and what tax benefits companies will get for investing in renewables.)As time goes on, there also could be more action against things such as Trump pausing renewable permits on private lands.Tariffs could also affect the solar industry, even as the IRA spurred more stateside manufacturing. Trump has expanded tariffs on steel and aluminum, which could cause domestic steel prices to rise (as they did initially when he enacted similar tariffs during his first administration). That could make solar, which uses steel for its structural racks and trackers, a bit more expensiveeven if those structural components are made in the United States.Nevados, which makes all-terrain trackers that allow solar panels to move and follow the sun, is currently signing contracts for 100% domestically manufactured tracker systems (the IRA helped boost that domestic production). Even though the company has concerns about tariffs raising prices, it still expects solar to grow. Solar has seen major strides over the past decade: It became nearly 90% cheaper between 2009 and 2019; and for years, its been cheaper to create new renewable power plants than operate existing coal plants. The solar industry also saw record growth in 2024.The freight train is unstoppable by things like tariffs, says Nevados COO Jenya Meydbray. Though solar is influenced by policies, its growth, he adds, is really driven by private industry, which continues to see the benefits. The Trump administration has hinted at restarting retired coal plants, but the business case for coal isnt there. Even 10 or 15 years ago, utility companies began building out solar in order to stabilize energy costs, says Nevados founder and CEO Yezin Taha, and move away from coal and natural gas, which saw high price fluctuations. As our need for energy increases because of data centers or the electrification of appliances and vehicles, solar is a fast, stable way to add capacity. And interestingly, its Republican states that have primarily benefitted from the solar industrys growth. About 85% of the investments in renewable energy from the IRA have gone to red states, as well as 65% of the jobs. By the second anniversary of that bill in 2024, it had already brought $286 billion to Republican-led districts. Some Republicans have been speaking out for solar, and renewable energy at large. More than 20 House Republicans wrote a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee chairman opposing cuts to clean energy credits. Strobel, who has spent time on the Hill himself, has seen this Republican support firsthand. Most members of the House will tell you, Dont listen to our rhetoric, thats for public consumption, but theres tremendous support for solar energy, he says. There may still be tweaks to the IRAperhaps removing some labor and apprenticeship rules and increasing domestic content rulesto more align with the Trump administrations agenda. But Strobel doesnt anticipate significant changes that affect solars growth. Its got too many supporters, both on the Hill and in the country.

  • Why job postings may be attracting narcissistic candidateswithout companies realizing it
    www.fastcompany.com
When companies advertise job openings, they often use buzzwords like ambitious and self-reliant to describe their ideal candidate. These traits sound appealingwhat hiring manager wouldnt want a driven employee? But theres a catch. In my latest study, published in the journal Management Science with coauthors Scott Jackson and Nick Seybert, I found that these terms may attract job applicants with more narcissistic tendencies. As behavioral researchers in accounting, we are interested in executives who bend the rules. We decided to study job postings after noticing that the language used to describe an ideal candidate often included traits linked to narcissism. For example, narcissists tend to see themselves as highly creative and persuasive. Prior research also shows that narcissistic employees are more innovative and willing to take risks to get the success and admiration they crave, even if it means bending the rules.Based on these observations, we compiled two sets of terms commonly used in job postings. We call the two sets rule-follower and rule-bender language. Some examples of rule-bender language include develops creative and innovative solutions to problems, communicates in a tactical and persuasive manner and thinks outside the box. In contrast, the rule-follower language includes terms like relies on time-tested solutions to problems, communicates in a straightforward and accurate manner and thinks methodically.Through a series of experiments, we found that rule-bender language attracts individuals with higher levels of narcissism for accounting-specific jobs, as well as other industries. To measure narcissism, we used a personality assessment that asks people to choose whether they identify more with more narcissistic statements like, I always know what I am doing, or less narcissistic statements like Sometimes I am not sure of what I am doing. We also found that recruiters are more likely to use rule-bender terms when hiring for highly innovative, high-growth companies. For accounting positions, recruiters are more likely to use such terms when aggressive financial reporting could benefit the firm. Why it mattersCompanies write job postings carefully in hopes of attracting the ideal candidate. However, they may unknowingly attract and select narcissistic candidates whose goals and ethics might not align with a companys values or long-term success. Research shows that narcissistic employees are more likely to behave unethically, potentially leading to legal consequences. While narcissistic traits can lead to negative outcomes, we arent saying that companies should avoid attracting narcissistic applicants altogether. Consider a company hiring a salesperson. A firm can benefit from a salesperson who is persuasive, who thinks outside the box and who is results-oriented. In contrast, a company hiring an accountant or compliance officer would likely benefit from someone who thinks methodically and communicates in a straightforward and accurate manner.Bending the rules is of particular concern in accounting. A significant amount of research examines how accounting managers sometimes bend rules or massage the numbers to achieve earnings targets. This earnings management can misrepresent the companys true financial position. In fact, my coauthor Nick Seybert is currently working on a paper whose data suggests rule-bender language in accounting job postings predicts rule-bending in financial reporting. Our current findings shed light on the importance of carefully crafting job posting language. Recruiting professionals may instinctively use rule-bender language to try to attract someone who seems like a good fit. If companies are concerned about hiring narcissists, they may want to clearly communicate their ethical values and needs while crafting a job posting, or avoid rule-bender language entirely. What still isnt knownWhile we find that professional recruiters are using language that attracts narcissists, it is unclear whether this is intentional.Additionally, we are unsure what really drives rule-bending in a company. Rule-bending could happen due to attracting and hiring more narcissistic candidates, or it could be because of a companys cultureor a combination of both. The Research Brief is a short take on interesting academic work.Jonathan Gay is an assistant professor of accountancy at the University of Mississippi. This article is republished from The Conversation under a Creative Commons license. • SuperBPE: Advancing Language Models with Cross-Word Tokenization
    www.marktechpost.com
Language models (LMs) face a fundamental challenge in how to perceive textual data through tokenization. Current subword tokenizers segment text into vocabulary tokens that cannot bridge whitespace, adhering to an artificial constraint that treats space as a semantic boundary. This practice ignores the reality that meaning often exceeds individual words multi-word expressions like a lot of function as single semantic units, with English speakers mentally storing thousands of such phrases. Cross-linguistically, the same concepts may be expressed as single or multiple words, depending on the language. Notably, some languages like Chinese and Japanese use no whitespace, allowing tokens to span multiple words or sentences without apparent performance degradation.Previous research has explored several approaches beyond traditional subword tokenization. Some studies investigated processing text at multiple granularity levels or creating multi-word tokens through frequency-based n-gram identification. Other researchers have explored multi-token prediction (MTP), allowing language models to predict various tokens in a single step, which confirms models capability to process more than one subword simultaneously. However, these approaches require architectural modifications and fix the number of tokens predicted per step. Some researchers have pursued tokenizer-free approaches, modeling text directly as byte sequences. However, this significantly increases sequence lengths and computational requirements, leading to complex architectural solutions.Researchers from the University of Washington, NVIDIA, and the Allen Institute for AI have proposed SuperBPE, a tokenization algorithm that creates a vocabulary containing both traditional subword tokens and innovative superword tokens that span multiple words. This approach enhances the popular byte-pair encoding (BPE) algorithm by implementing a pretokenization curriculum by initially maintaining whitespace boundaries to learn subword tokens, then removing these constraints to allow for superword token formation. While standard BPE quickly reaches diminishing returns and begins using increasingly rare subwords as vocabulary size grows, SuperBPE continues discovering common multi-word sequences to encode as single tokens, improving encoding efficiency.SuperBPE operates through a two-stage training process that modifies the pretokenization step of traditional BPE, mentioned above. This approach intuitively builds semantic units and combines them into common sequences for greater efficiency. Setting t=T (t is transition point and T is target size) produces standard BPE, while t=0 creates a naive whitespace-free BPE. Training SuperBPE requires more computational resources than standard BPE because, without whitespace pretokenization, the training data consists of extremely long words with minimal deduplication. However, this increased training cost a few hours on 100 CPUs and occurs only once, which is negligible compared to the resources required for language model pretraining.SuperBPE shows impressive performance across 30 benchmarks spanning knowledge, reasoning, coding, reading comprehension, etc. All SuperBPE models outperform the BPE baseline, with the strongest 8B model achieving an average improvement of 4.0% and surpassing the baseline on 25 out of 30 individual tasks. Multiple-choice tasks show substantial gains, with a +9.7% improvement. The only statistically significant underperformance occurs in the LAMBADA task, where SuperBPE experiences a final accuracy drop from 75.8% to 70.6%. Moreover, all reasonable transition points yield stronger results than the baseline. The most encoding-efficient transition point delivers a +3.1% performance improvement while reducing inference computing by 35%.In conclusion, researchers introduced SuperBPE, a more effective tokenization approach developed by enhancing the standard BPE algorithm to incorporate superword tokens. Despite tokenization serving as the fundamental interface between language models and text, tokenization algorithms have remained relatively static. SuperBPE challenges this status quo by recognizing that tokens can extend beyond traditional subword boundaries to include multi-word expressions. SuperBPE tokenizers enable language models to achieve superior performance across numerous downstream tasks while reducing inference computational costs. These advantages require no modifications to the underlying model architecture, making SuperBPE a seamless replacement for traditional BPE in modern language model development pipelines.Check outthe Paper and Project Page. All credit for this research goes to the researchers of this project. • This AI Paper from UC Berkeley Introduces TULIP: A Unified Contrastive Learning Model for High-Fidelity Vision and Language Understanding
    www.marktechpost.com
Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have significantly improved how machines learn to associate visual content with language. Contrastive learning models have been pivotal in this transformation, particularly those aligning images and text through a shared embedding space. These models are central to zero-shot classification, image-text retrieval, and multimodal reasoning. However, while these tools have pushed boundaries in aligning high-level concepts between modalities, they still face challenges in processing more nuanced, spatially precise, and detailed visual information. One of the major unresolved challenges lies in balancing semantic understanding with high-resolution visual recognition. Most existing contrastive models prioritize broad semantic alignment over spatial fidelity, causing them to underperform in tasks that require an understanding of object count, depth, fine-grained textures, or precise object locations. These limitations arise from how models are trainedoften on large-scale, loosely labeled datasetsand optimization strategies that favor global feature matching over detailed visual analysis. The absence of spatially-aware representations hampers performance in more granular vision tasks.Available models such as CLIP, ALIGN, and SigLIP have achieved strong performance on many classification and retrieval benchmarks. These models leverage large datasets to match image-text pairs in a contrastive manner, bringing semantically similar examples closer together in the embedding space. However, this focus often overlooks detailed representations crucial for specialized tasks. For instance, models trained with only image-text pairs may successfully describe what is present but struggle in tasks like counting distinct objects or distinguishing subtle variations between similar items. Vision-centric models like DINO or MAE offer strong feature extraction but lack language interpretability, making them less suitable for multimodal applications.Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, introduced a new model called TULIP (Towards Unified Language-Image Pretraining) to address these limitations. Designed as an open-source, plug-in replacement for existing CLIP-like models, TULIP enhances the integration of semantic alignment with high-fidelity visual representation. The innovation combines several contrastive learning techniques with generative data augmentation and reconstruction-based regularization. It is designed to preserve high-level understanding and fine-grained details, bridging the gap between language comprehension and detailed visual analysis.TULIPs methodology integrates three contrastive learning strategies: image-image, image-text, and text-text contrastive learning. This unified framework is powered by a module called GeCo (Generative Contrastive view augmentation), which uses large generative models to create challenging augmentations of images and text. These include semantically identical or subtly altered variations, generating positive and negative contrastive pairs. The image encoder leverages a vision transformer architecture with a masked autoencoder reconstruction loss, while the text encoder utilizes language models to paraphrase the content. Regularization objectives encourage the model to retain essential details like texture, layout, and color alongside semantics.Performance benchmarks demonstrate that TULIP achieves notable improvements across various tasks. On ImageNet-1K zero-shot classification, TULIP reaches up to 89.6% accuracy, outperforming SigLIP by 2-3 percentage points across several datasets. In few-shot classification, it nearly doubles performance over SigLIP on RxRx1, increasing accuracy from 4.6% to 9.8%. On MMVP, a vision-language benchmark, TULIP improves performance over SigLIP by more than 3. It also outperforms competing models on the Winoground benchmark, becoming the first CIT model to achieve better-than-random results on group-based reasoning tasks. BLINK evaluations lead to tasks like spatial reasoning and object localization, rivaling or surpassing some GPT-4-based systems. This research provides a compelling solution to a fundamental multimodal learning tradeoff: achieving visual detail and semantic coherence. The research team has shown that introducing generative augmentations and multi-view contrastive techniques into pretraining significantly boosts the models capacity for complex visual and linguistic reasoning. TULIP sets a new direction for future vision-language systems that handle broad and fine-grained understanding in a unified model.Check outthe Paper, Project Page and GitHub Page. All credit for this research goes to the researchers of this project. • The Best Deliciously Dark Books Exploring Female Fury
    www.denofgeek.com
Women are angry and women writers are channelling that fury and turning it into cathartic thrillers, tales of revenge and cannibalistic horror stories and my God, its delicious.I know this as a reader, an author and a woman who, like many, struggles to even look at daily news headlines without my insides churning with rage. When we have to plan our running routes around the possibility of being apprehended by a bad man, and when we see beautiful female movie stars trashed for ageing like milk (and its not just the men saying this) then you can forgive us for wanting to get lost in fiction where the tables are turned. Where women dont have to look pretty and play nice.My most recent novel is my first published thriller When Sally Killed Harry. You can immediately tell from the title that this is feminist revenge (although Ive nothing against Billy Crystals Harry my Harrys a different character entirely and a particularly nasty piece of work). But after writing novels exploring mental health, addiction stigma and feminism, I wanted to take things a step further and use fiction cathartically. Its fantastical and humorous (so Im told!), and yet it explores some of the very real issues we see happening every day. Because sometimes, we just need to vent and have fun while we do.Of course, Im nowhere near the first to do this. Feminist revenge stories have taken many forms and date back many years. But today, theres a real swell of books in this genre and a real appetite for them too. So here are some of my picks of stories exploring fury, rage, revenge and womanhood that I personally love.Speak of the Devil by Rose Wilding (2023)Picture this: a bad mans severed head resting on a table in the back room of a hotel in Newcastle. Seven women all had good reason to swing the axe, but nobody is admitting to Jamie Spellmans grisly death. So, who finally put a stop to his abominable behaviour? First of all a bunch of women standing around a severed head what an opener! If that doesnt get you immediately hooked and intrigued I dont know what will. Secondly, this is a brilliantly written tale that takes us back through the lives of all seven women and their unfortunate encounters with Jamie, whos a bit of a shit actually. A furious revenge thriller with multiple intertwining back stories that will keep you guessing. The Lamb by Lucy Rose (2025)This book has the best opening line of any book Ive ever read (On my fourth birthday, I plucked six severed fingers from the shower drain). What?! Up until this point I thought my rancid soapy hair was the worst thing you could find down the plug hole. Apparently not, and this book only gets more visceral the more you read. Its about female cannibals living in the woods told from the point of view of young Margot, whose mama has an insatiable appetite for strays. Narcissistic parenting and female fury combine to create a world that Margot finds both delicious and distasteful all at once. Motherly love takes on a whole new meaning in this captivating folk horror. The Darkest Night by Victoria Hawthorne (2024)Several generations of Reid women are furious and for good reason. When Ailsas grandmother goes missing, Ailsa and her mother Rowan look to centuries-old stories of their ancestors for clues. Some were burnt at the stake on the hill above the Reid house, one was forced to hide her sexuality, another witnessed the contemptable actions of an abusive father, and now, Ailsa is dealing with the aftermath of an incident that took place at the school in which she works. Are the Reid women really cursed? How to Kill Men and Get Away With It by Katy Brent (2022)A social media influencer taking out the trash. Kitty Collins is livid and shes on a mission to seek out and take out the worst of mankind. The ones on the dating apps, the ones living the high life as a celebrity footballer and the ones being released from prison for committing horrific crimes against women. Just so happens this vegan serial killer has inherited a family business thats perfect to help her cover up her bone-crushing crimes. A funny, cathartic and delightful read which now has a follow up too I Bet Youd Look Good in a Coffin.Psychomachia by Kirsty Allison (2021)OK strap in. This is one hell of a ride and youll leave Scarlett Flaggs world exhausted, dazed and like youve been repeatedly sucker-punched. Step back in time to the 90s where Scarlett wants revenge on the man who raped her when she was a teenager the arch patriarch of rock n roll Malachi Wright. Fucked up and furious, Scarletts on a drug-infused ride that leaves her wondering if she killed Malachi or was it her boyfriend? Or her father? Either way, this emotional, chemically-induced literary rollercoaster will leave you wondering what the fuck just happened but really glad you went there.Sweet Pea by C J Skuse (2017)Do you still lie awake at night dreaming up the perfect vengeful scenarios for that bully from high school? Or that terrible ex-boyfriend? Or even that cashier who smiled at you funny in the supermarket? Sweet Pea (now a TV drama, too) explores revenge in all its possible glories, told through the eyes of Rhiannon an unassuming and quiet girl who makes the tea in the office and never quite gets the praise shes after. Underestimate her at your peril you really dont want to know what shes hiding in her late parents houseThe Burnings by Naomi Kelsey (2023)Ive added this one to my list for a quite different reason because it will encourage every woman reading it to explore their feminist fury it certainly did me. Thats because this ones inspired by the Berwick witch trials of the 16th-century a horrific stain on our history that reminds us that men wanted to keep women in their place (and some still do) and the idea of witchcraft was a way of doing so of stopping women excelling in the roles men coveted. Its told through the eyes of Scottish housemaid Geillis and Danish courtier Margareta during a time when rumours of black magic resulted in the excruciating torture and deaths of many women. As the books description says Nothing scares men like witchcraft. Beautifully and powerfully written and an infuriating yet fascinating reminder of our history.Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox! When Sally Killed Harry by Lucy Roth (Avon Books) is published 27th March

  • The Best Daredevil Fight Scenes in the Netflix Series and Born Again
    www.denofgeek.com
This article contains spoilers for Daredevil seasons 1-3 and Daredevil: Born Again episodes 1-2.Daredevil is a character well known for being an impeccable fighter. He may not be able to visually see his opponents, but his other heightened senses allow him to detect their movements. The Netflix series Daredevil did a great job of translating the characters street-level fighting style into captivating fight scenes that keep us on the edge of our seat, and the series sequel of sorts, Daredevil: Born Again has carried on this tradition. Many of Daredevils fight scenes are gritty, bloody and end up with Matt (Charlie Cox) needing to be patched up by Hells Kitchens most badass nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). But they are also well choreographed and often show us how far Matt is willing to go to enact his brand of justice. There have been so many incredible fight scenes over the course of Daredevils run here are some of our favorites, in chronological order.Daredevil vs. Russians Daredevil Season 1 Episode 2This season 1 scene is easily one of the series best and often what people reference when talking about the shows fighting choreography. After nearly dying the first time, Matt returns to a Russian safe house to try and rescue a young boy who had been kidnapped. Matt is still visibly exhausted and worn down, but that doesnt stop him from going from room to room in this dimly-lit hallway, kicking ass. There are times when Matt has to stop fighting to catch his breath, and others when he literally throws his entire body at a bad guy because he doesnt have the strength to punch or kick them. While not part of this fight scene, or really much of a fight scene at all, wed like to give an honorable mention to another dope scene from this episode that involves Matt dropping a fire extinguisher down a stairwell at the perfect moment to knock someone out with it. 10/10 delivery and absolutely no notes.Matt vs. StickDaredevil Season 1 Episode 7A few episodes later, we learn where, or rather who Matt picked up his Martial Arts skills from an old blind guy named Stick. Stick is very much a no-nonsense kind of guy and isnt one to sugarcoat his opinions. When Stick arrives in Hells Kitchen on an important mission, he asks for Matts help. Matt begrudgingly agrees, but finds himself at odds with his former teacher when he discovers that Sticks mission involves killing a child thats set to be used as some sort of weapon. The two fight in Matts apartment, destroying furniture left and right and using whatever they can grab as weapons. The pair is pretty evenly matched, though Matt does technically win the fightthis time.Daredevil vs. Fisk Daredevil Season 1 Episode 13The final fight of season 1 might not be quite as epic as the hallway fight we see at the beginning of the season, but it is the first time we get to see Daredevil in all his red leather glory go toe-to-toe with Wilson Fisk (Vincent DOnofrio). Even with his new-and-improved outfit, Matt still has a hard time matching Fisks pure strength, and hes able to get a number of heavy punches in. In the end though, Matt is able to knock Fisk out and send him on his way to prison, at least for now.Daredevil vs. Dogs of Hell Daredevil Season 2 Episode 3Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox! With a new season comes a new badass hallway fight, and boy does season 2 deliver. This sequence follows Matt as he tries to help Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) out of an apartment complex as the biker gang The Dogs of Hell hunt them down. Leaving an unconscious Frank in the elevator, Matt fights his way down the stairwell with nothing but some chains and a gun duct taped to his hand. This sequence never loses momentum as bodies and fists go flying all around.Daredevil and Elektra vs. the Yakuza Daredevil Season 2 Episode 6This episode is the first time we get to see Matt and Elektra (Elodie Yung) fight side-by-side. In the opening scene, we watch them kick Yakuza ass with incredible chemistry. They are able to trust that the other can take care of themselves, focusing on their own targets as they take the assailants down one by one. With the amount of tension in the room, its no wonder their romance rekindles over the course of the season.Daredevil and Claire vs. Ninja AssassinsDaredevil Season 2 Episode 11After Matt rescues victims of the Hands experiments, their assassins come to collect. Thankfully Matt arrives soon after they infiltrate the hospital where the patients are being kept under observation and he and Claire do their best to fight the intruders. Matt pursues them across the rooftops of the city, but ultimately loses them as they make their escape.Matt vs. An Entire Prison Daredevil Season 3 Episode 4Season 3 takes the hallway fight up another notch. This time Matt isnt fighting his way through a single hallway or even an apartment complex hes fighting his way through an entire prison. While trying to find out how Fisk manipulated the FBI into getting him released, Matt discovers that Fisk essentially bought everyone there, including the guards. After a doctor tries to kill him, he soon realizes that hes going to have to fight his way out. He doesnt have his Daredevil suit. He doesnt have his weapons. Its just him and his fists against a number of criminals and guards who have been paid to make sure he doesnt make it out alive. But despite the odds, Matt fights his way out of the prison even more pissed off than he was before.Daredevil vs. Daredevil in The Bulletin Daredevil Season 3 Episode 6In an effort to get back at Matt and tarnish Daredevils reputation, Fisk enlists FBI agent Benjamin Dex Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) to put on the Daredevil costume and attack the Bulletin. Foggy (Elden Henson) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) are there, trying to keep a witness against Fisk safe long enough for him to share his story with the FBI. But once Daredevil, arrives, the Bulletin becomes a bloodbath. Dex attacks everyone there indiscriminately until Matt arrives and tries to stop him. Matt soon realizes that Dex has exceptional abilities of his own, and struggles to dodge everything that Dex (quite literally) throws at him. It was a great way to introduce the character as another nemesis for Matt, especially since Dex is wearing Matts costume.Daredevil vs. Dex vs. Fisk Daredevil Season 3 Episode 13The final fight of season 3, and of Daredevils Netflix era, sees Matt go up against Dex and Fisk at once. All three of them are fighting each other and it soon becomes a blood bath. Fisk slams Dex up against a wall, breaking his back. Matt comes closer than he ever has to killing Fisk and is barely able to hold himself back from doing so. Its the perfect final fight for this era.Matt vs. Dirty Cops Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Episode 2Though we havent gotten the extent of Daredevil: Born Agains fight scenes as season 1 is still currently airing, what we have seen so far is fairly promising. Though the opening fight against Bullseye in episode one might be more flashy with all of the CGI flips around the rooftops, its the episode 2 fight sequence that truly shines. This melee brings us back to Matts grittier roots and reminds us, and him, of what is always lurking underneath his lawyer surface. He tries his best to not be dragged back into this world, but when a pair of dirty cops try to kill a key witness in his trial, he cant just stand by and let it happen. They duke it out in a small apartment and Matt pretty much beats the crap out of them. Its incredibly satisfying to watch Matt knock these guys down a peg and is the first of hopefully many more fights like this to come.Honorable Mention: Frank Castle vs. an Entire Cell BlockDaredevil Season 2 Episode 9This fight doesnt technically involve Matt, but it felt wrong not to at least give it an honorable mention. Before Matt was fighting his way out of a prison in season 3 of Daredevil, Frank did the same in season 2, also thanks to Fisk. Frank thought Fisk was helping him get revenge against another person responsible for the death of his family, but in reality Fisk was using him to get rid of competition. After Frank played his part, Fisk left him to fight his way out of the cell block, which Frank absolutely did. This version was a lot bloodier than Matts, as Frank is not above stabbing, gouging, and otherwise maiming his adversaries. This scene is not for the squeamish, but if you can stomach the blood, its truly unforgettable.
