  • The Apple Watch SE might not have a future in plastics after all
    www.macworld.com
MacworldLast July, Bloombergs Mark Gurman reported that Apple started investigating the use of a plastic case on an Apple Watch SE to make a watch that could compete with its cheapest rivals. In August, Gurman provided more details about the plastic Watch SE and how it could be marketed as a kid-friendly product. In September, Gurman reported that the watch could ship this year, but that the product ran into cost and quality challenges with the shift to plastic. Well, now its March, and the latest from Gurman is that the plastic Watch SE is in serious jeopardy. Sources say the casing isnt isnt up to the companys standards, and the cost to make the case isnt all that much cheaper than using aluminum.Apple has offered plastic devices as cheaper options in the past, notably the original iBook and iPhone 5c. It was also thought that, like the iPhone 5c, a plastic Watch SE could be offered in an array of bright colors, which would be a departure from the standard shades found in the current Apple Watch lineup. However, Apple moved away from plastic in its MacBooks a long time ago and hasnt made a plastic iPhone since the 5c. Unless we see some sort of breakthrough, the Apple Watch SEs future in plastic ended before it even got started. Learn more about the Apple Watch Series 10, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and the current Apple Watch SE.

The countdown to 13th Annual A+Awards winners' announcement has begun! Stay updated by subscribing to Architizer's Awards Newsletter. When we appreciate architecture, it often comes from a place of feeling. Just like with art, the tilt of the head or a momentary squint reveals our attempt to understand the emotions woven into a space by the designer. Color and emotion in architecture are deeply connected, shaping how we experience and interact with our surroundings from vibrant public areas to more intimate spaces. Through careful consideration of color, architects shape the aesthetics of a space, influencing not just its mood and functionality but also the deeper connections people form within it.These seven projects use bright hues to cultivate connection, spark creativity, and enhance the experience of their occupants across different scales. Each demonstrates how color can serve as more than just decoration it can shape identity, inspire activity and transform spaces into emotionally engaging environments.Die Macherei MnchenBy HWKN Architecture, Munich, Germany The faades dynamic color gradient transitions from an energetic red through a creative orange to a cheerful yellow. More than just an aesthetic feature, this gradient plays a critical role in reshaping the sites industrial identity. This bold choice of colors now serves as an emotional light bulb to an area that was once barren and utilitarian. It now radiates warmth and has transformed into a vibrant, welcoming neighborhood filled with energy and emotion.NeighboursBy ZAV Architects with Next Office, Fardis, IranWorking alongside shapes and massing, the designers used color to break the monotony of post-disaster construction in Fardis. A vibrant palette of coral reds, warm ochres and deep teals creates a dynamic landscape, giving each cellular-shaped unit its own identity. This intentional use of color fosters individuality and strengthens the sense of ownership within the community. It also introduces warmth and optimism, counteracting the impersonal feel that mass-produced housing developments often create. In a space where rebuilding is more than just physical restoration, color becomes a tool for emotional recovery and renewal.Publicis Groupe, Le TrucBy Architecture Plus Information (A+I), New York A+I infused the spaces with vibrant hues and shades to ignite creativity across the organization, making them the heart of Publicis creative culture. Colors like pink, green, yellow, orange and blue mark key stages in the organizations creative process; each color choice serves a functional and psychological purpose. For example, the pink meeting room fosters collaboration by creating a sense of openness and encouraging dialogue. The green break room promotes relaxation, allowing employees to recharge between tasks. Meanwhile, the orange hallway injects energy and dynamism into circulation spaces, ensuring that movement through the office feels inspiring rather than routine.Arts District ProjectBy Perkins & Will, Los Angeles The buildings faade features aluminum louvers wrapping around its concrete frame. Painted in bright colors, they enhance energy efficiency as solar filters while doubling as large-scale murals. The color palette echoes the sites industrial past, drawing from the textures of brick, concrete, and steel, as well as the bold murals and wheat-paste posters that characterize the districts streetscape. This fusion of color and function makes the facade more than just an aesthetic statement it becomes a storytelling element, connecting the building to its urban fabric. By reflecting the neighborhoods artistic character, the project honors the Arts Districts legacy while promoting sustainability and energy efficiency.Charles Aznavour conservatoire of music, theatre and danceBy Dominique Coulon & Associs, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France The designers infused the academys faade with dynamic dichroic films that create colors whose hues depend on where a person stands and the suns movement. This kaleidoscopic effect ties the interiors together, reinforcing the academys artistic identity. Inside, bold colors heighten the dramavivid blacks and striking reds bathe some rooms, sparking creativity, energizing performers and immersing them in an atmosphere of expression.Beyond aesthetics, this use of color and light influences how performers and students experience the space. The changing hues create a sense of movement, reflecting the rhythm and emotion of the performing arts. Just as music and theater rely on shifts in tone and intensity, the conservatoires colors evolve throughout the day, reinforcing the dynamism of artistic expression.Haus 2+By Office ParkScheerbarth, Berlin, Germany The bold red faade of Haus 2+ serves as a striking entrance to Holzmarkt 25, injecting life just like blood into the cultural quarter. As an entry point, its evolving tone throughout the day reinforces the buildings progressive nature, making a bold statement amidst its eclectic surroundings. The combination of red and larch wood adds contrast and mirrors the creative energy of the diverse tenants who also bring the space to life.Wonderland Elementary School Kindergarten Classroom, Play Areas, and Learning GardenBy John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (JFAK), Los Angeles, California Designed for children, the kindergarten integrates color and form to spark wonder and discovery. The colorful louvers that trace the playful swoops of the facade create a sense of movement and energy, while polycarbonate fins above a large roof opening cast multi-colored hues of light into the space.Inside, the thoughtful application of color extends into the classrooms, where the designers infused different pops of color to enhance the environment and foster curiosity. Each shade contributes to a unique atmosphere softer hues create a calming effect for focused activities, while bolder tones inspire creativity and play. The countdown to 13th Annual A+Awards winners' announcement has begun! gamingbolt.com
Weta Workshops Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is seemingly on track for its Summer launch. A new gameplay trailer showcases various activities players can engage with in the cozy life sim. Check it out below.Creative director Stephen Lambert also outlined the core gameplay pillars to the PlayStation Blog in a new interview. The focus is on the community as you spend time cooking, gardening, fishing and doing peaceful activities. Players can also explore by water and inspect the environment to discover secrets and lovely little glades and areas to hang out within the world.Adding to the community aspect is building relationships, which Lambert calls pretty important. Every thread of the story is going to help you not only expand whats available to you as a player but also broaden the depth of the characters and storylines. Of course, youre free to take things at your own pace. You can either dive deep into those stories or just live out your own little life along the side. Its all about enhancing your feeling of peace and tranquillity.Another community aspect is shared meals, where you prepare food and invite guests to eat which is pretty laborious. Youve got to find a new recipe, grow ingredients or go to the market or fish or forage for them. And then youve got to go through the process of cooking, and thats not just a case of putting the ingredients together. Its how much of something you add, how much you stir it, and how much seasoning you add that adds characteristics to the food.If the food matches a guests taste, you may become closer. Players can expect plenty of detail in these dishes if nothing else. One of our 3D artists who modeled much of the meals used to work as a chef, so theyre all beautifully plated up.As for decorating your Hobbits smial, you have extensive freedom for moving things around and can even adjust the curvature of the hole.Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game launches on July 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

  • Killzone Composer Believes Remaster Would be Successful, but No Room in the Market for a Sequel
    gamingbolt.com
While Killzone was once considered a major franchise for Sony back in the PS3 days, the series has largely fallen off the map following the release of Killzone: Shadow Fall on the PS4. In a conversation with VideoGamer, KillzoneandHorizon composer Joris de Man spoke about how, while he would love for the franchise to return in some way, there may not be room for it in the current gaming landscape.de Man spoke about how much the Killzone franchise has meant to its fans, and how many have wanted the series to return at least in the form of a remaster, if not an outright remake or new game.I know that there have been petitions for it, said de Man. I think its risky because, I cant speak for Guerrilla or anything I dont know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but also I think it kind of has to take into account kind of the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways.He does go on to say that he believes a remastered release of the original Killzone trilogy would see a fair bit of success, especially thanks to the franchises fans. A new title, however, isnt something de Man believes would see much success.I think it remastered one would be successful I dont know if a new game would be as much, de Man said. I dont know if people have moved on from it and want something. I dont know sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual a bit more quick. While fans of Killzone have been looking for some sign of life from the franchise, developer Guerrilla Games revealed back in October 2024 that the whole reason it created the Horizon franchise with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn was because it was done with Killzone. We were done with it as a team, said art director Roy Postma in an interview. As a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone. I think the themes that this story and the characters represent are relatable for all ages and people, like having a found family of friends and finding your place in the world. This was a sentiment echoed a few years after the official website for Killzone was shut down. The studio, along with Sony, referred to it being retired. This, however, did not affect the multiplayer components of Killzone: Shadow Fall. The last time we got to see anything related to Killzone franchise was thanks to a crossover event in Helldivers 2. As part of the event, Helldivers 2 players could get their hands on cosmetics and weapons inspired by classic shooter Killzone 2.While the original Killzone was poorly-received, it did kickstart a franchise that would be one of the core franchises for Sony during the PS3 years. Killzone: Shadow Fall, one of the first titles released for the PS4, has seemingly spelled death for the franchise, however.
