• Pokmon TCG Pocket will get limited trading in 2025, but new booster packs this year
    www.polygon.com
Pokmon Trading Card Game Pocket players will get to trade certain cards come 2025, the Pokmon TCG Pocket operations team announced Wednesday. After launching in late October, Pokmon TCG Pocket has been a wild hit: The game has reportedly made more than $12 million across more than 10 million downloads. Opening booster packs, collecting cards, and then battling with them has been the big draw since the games release date, but trading has always been on the docket. Now, players know when to expect it in January. But the Pokmon TCG Pocket operations team isnt going to open the trading flood gates, instead opting to keep the functionality limited to certain cards. We are planning to gradually expand the selection of cards that are able to be traded, the operations team wrote. The addition of trading is highly anticipated, but it could fundamentally change the game, something that The Pokmon Company acknowledged at a press event held in November. We know introducing trading into a game all about collection is going to have significant implications, a Pokmon Company representative said at the preview event. We want to see how people are playing the game and what the best way we could do this in a way that makes sense for TCG Pocket would be.While trading is still a few months out, though, the Pokmon TCG Pocket team did say Wednesday that it plans to add new booster packs by the end of the year, but did not specify a date. Other new features are in development, too, which the company plans to announce more in the future.

  • Dropout offers discounted Dimension 20 tickets after pricing controversy
    www.polygon.com
If you failed your Ticketmaster check on tickets to Dimension 20s sold-out Madison Square Garden show, you now have a chance to reroll. Fans of Dropouts flagship actual play can now enter a lottery for reduced-price Dimensioneer tickets by visiting their website.Earlier this year, the independent streamer announced itd be doing what no actual play had done before: playing Dungeons & Dragons on the worlds most famous stage. That plan came with controversy, as the overwhelming surge of fans rushing the site triggered Ticketmasters Dynamic Pricing model. Tickets priced between $80 and $200-plus jumped up to as much as $2500, sparking outrage from the fanbase. If you haven't been able to get tickets for our upcoming live show, Dimension 20: Gauntlet at the Garden, good news you can now (actually) submit for the Dimensioneer tickets lottery! pic.twitter.com/piXGwNYqLe Dimension 20 (@dimension20show) November 13, 2024In response, Dropout released a statement saying the average ticket sold for $119 with the dynamic pricing nonsense only impacting a fraction of sales. The same statement instituted the Dimensioneer ticket lottery system, which would give fans who were potentially priced out of the event an opportunity to see the show at a budget price. Dropout also initially stated it would opt out of using the dynamic pricing model for its upcoming West Coast Tour, though it later clarified that 150 tickets for the Hollywood Bowl show would be subject to dynamic pricing, stating on Twitter that 100% of the uplift (minus fees) would be donated to the LA County Parks Foundation.Lottery submissions for a limited number of $35 tickets will be open through Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. ET. The lucky winners will be informed via email on the evening of November 22. According to Dimension 20s post on social media, Dimensioneer seat locations will be randomly assigned throughout the venue, including Upper Level and Floor level seating. Winners will not know what their view of the stage will be the company says Dimensioneer ticket locations will only be revealed on the night of the show. The Madison Square Garden show, Gauntlet at the Garden, will be a one-night-only event set in the Unsleeping City, Dimension 20s magical twist on New York City. The first two seasons of Unsleeping City tackle the citys historical issues with oppressive city planner Robert Moses, and more modern-day issues like megacorporations and isolation. Season 1 is available on Youtube, with the second season exclusively on Dropout.tv.

  • An Architecture Studio in London Captures the Vibrancy of the City
    design-milk.com
Workplace specialists Area, noted for creating personalized spaces throughout Europe, applied this expertise to the design of their new London office, which captures the magic of the city and boasts a range of diverse rooms and furnishings.Located in the Bridge House building, next to Borough Market and steps to the London Bridge tube station, the 4,000-square-foot office brings the vibrancy of the city, and convenience, to Areas employees. We wanted an amenity-rich space, with a choice of spaces that support all of our activities, says James Geekie, group design director at Area. There is a clear demarcation between the work zone and entrance. As visitors step inside of the workplace, they are surrounded by sophisticated dark hues in the front section, and treated to glimpses of the lively office as everyone moves about during the day. This simple division allows guests and clients to enjoy their experience without disrupting the staff, perfectly balancing transparency and privacy. With desk space for 40, the architects can work at tables with various heights, look at fabric samples, or review plans in plenty of natural light. Individuals can also complete tasks in focus rooms. These quieter spots are complete with acoustic felt panels which help to reduce noise. Placed on ledges and on the floor of the office, potted plants provide welcome touches of nature and fresh pops of green color which complement the firms own signature verdant hue.The kitchen, surprisingly, is the central hub of Areas workspace. Situated at the back of the building next to a fire escape in the original plan, it inadvertently obstructed collaboration among colleagues. By transforming this particular sector, it is now a place that fosters interaction, where people can naturally gather to share meals or conversation. The designers chose what they describe as a mature color palette for most of the areas, but they played with bolder shades and texture in the galley. Glazed ceramic tiles in indigo adorn the walls, while fluted pieces in a rich terracotta tint surround the islands base, adding dimension.Every meeting room has a distinct look and color scheme, like the boardroom, which is utilized for key meetings. Highlighted in muted purple and gray, the interior is conducive to key decision-making sessions. The lounge room, meanwhile, is reminiscent of a hospitality setting. Decorated with a tropical motif wallpaper and furnished with soft seating, its a mini oasis.Areas London space is more than a typical architecture studio, it reflects their ethos. Weve built a space that meets our business needs, but it has also emphasized our culture and unique energy. Our people want to be here, Geekie adds. For more information on Area, visit area.co.uk.Photography by Henry Woide.

    lifehacker.com
Black Friday is no longer a single-day shopping eventlike other shopping events, it has become a multiple-day extravaganza without a defined beginning or end. Walmart's sale is already live, as is as Target's, and some of Amazon's.) Joining the fun is Best Buy, which is offering some deals on TVs. Its Hisense and Samsung TV deals stand out, which include a free digital copy of NBA 2K25: All-Star Edition with the purchase of select Hisense 65" TVs, or a free Samsung 40" Class TV with the purchase of a 98 Samsung Class DU9000 Series. It's a fine TV to put in a child's bedroom or if you need one in a garage, but don't expect much from it aside from basic smart features. The only TV that includes the 40-inch is the 98-inch Samsung Class DU9000 Series Crystal UHD, currently $2,499.99 (originally $3,499.99) which comes with Smart Tizen TV. This is the lowest price this TV has been over the last four months, according to price-tracking tools. This TV came out earlier this year with an AI feature that optimizes picture quality called Supersize Picture Enhancer. Samsung claims that it'll make the quality comparable to that of a 65-inch TV.If you're interested in the free digital NBA 2K25: All-Star Edition, it is available until Nov. 16 with the purchase of a selection of QLED/ULED TVs. One of the standout options is the 65-inch Hisense U8 Series Mini-LED QLED Smart Google TV for $899.99 (originally $1,499.99). It is the lowest price I have seen in the last couple of months, according to price-tracking tools. This is just $50 more than the previous year's version. You'll get 4K resolution with local dimming, which makes deeper darks and richer colors for a more dramatic contrast (it'll look close to an OLED). The best part is you get the extra brightness that non-OLED TVs bring.

  • Use Mermaid to Create Charts and Diagrams Without Image Editing Tools
    lifehacker.com
Have you ever tried to make a flowchart, or any kind of diagram for that matter, using image editing software or a word processor's embedded tools? It generally doesn't go well, which is why there's dedicated software for the job. But longstanding options like Mirosoft Visio aren't easily available to the average person, and Lucidchart, a web-based alternative, limits free users to 60 "shapes" per document, after which point you'll pay $9 a month. That's reasonable if you're the kind of person who constantly makes flowcharts, but it's a lot to ask for the occasional use. If you'd rather avoid paying for another subscription, and are willing to learn a little bit of Markdown (essentially, a way to add formatting without a text editor or HTML tags), Mermaid is an open source tool that can be used to create such charts using plaintext. The simplest way to get started is heading to Mermaid.live. It's a free online tool that allows you to create flowcharts and a number of other diagrams right in your browser. It offers a number of sample diagrams, found in the left-hand column, and playing around with a few of them is a great way to learn your way around the tool. It includes flowcharts, as well as productivity favorites like Gantt diagrams and pie charts. Credit: Justin Pot The left panel is where you put the text, and the right panel shows a preview of the chart. If you've used another Markdown editor before it will feel familiar, even if the specifics take some time to memorize. If you've never used Markdown before, there's a bit of a learning curvefiguring out how to best use this tool is going to require either experimenting within Mermaid itself, reading the documentation, or both.Once created, you can export your charts from this web tool as an image, if you want, or copy the code to use in another app. A number of applications, including Obsidian, Notion, and GitLab, come with built-in support for embedding Mermaid code. (Read the list of integrations to learn about more tools that support Mermaid, and about other dedicated tools for creating within it.)If you're a power user of flowcharts and diagramming tools, Mermaid isn't going to replace more robust programs built for the task. But if you only occasionally need to make a chart, and especially if you prefer working with text-based tools, it might save you time, and money.

  • GOG's preservation label highlights classic games it's maintaining for modern hardware
    www.engadget.com
GOG is launching an effort to help make older video games playable on modern hardware. The GOG Preservation Program will label the classic titles that the platform has taken steps to adapt in order to make them compatible with contemporary computer systems, controllers and screen resolutions, all while adhering to its DRM-free policy. The move could bring new life to games of decades past, just as GOG did two years ago with a refresh of the 1999 title Wheel of Time. So far, 92 games have received the preservation treatment."Our guarantee is that they work and they will keep working," the company says in the video announcing the initiative.Preservation has been a hot topic as more games go digital only. Not only are some platforms eliminating disk drives by default, but ownership over your library is more ephemeral than it seems. After all, most game purchases are just a license, and licenses can be revoked (as The Crew players know all too well). This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/gaming/pc/gogs-preservation-label-highlights-classic-games-its-maintaining-for-modern-hardware-231606454.html?src=rss
