  • Fortnite Festival Pass Season 5 - All Songs, Skins, And Rewards
    www.gamespot.com
After two months of Metallica, Fortnite Festival is taking on a very different vibe in Season 5 with Colombian superstar Karol G, whose pop and reggaeton stylings are more in line with the first three Festival seasons. The start of a new season means it's time for a new Festival Pass, and purchasing the pass for 1800 V-Bucks will immediately unlock the Karol G skin. This season's pass, which includes both free and paid tracks, looks quite different from last season's, which isn't very surprising since the headliner this time is an individual person and not a band with four members. In the just-concluded Season 4 Festival Pass, we got a skin for each member of Metallica on the paid pass, but only got a single Metallica song, One, on the paid part of the pass. This led to some grumbling from Festival fans who preferred to get more jam tracks from their Festival Pass purchase. Those folks will be happy with this pass--in addition to a jam track from Karol G, we've also got a jam track from each of Avicii, Afrojack, and Ava Max.There's also, in a happy surprise, more instruments in this pass than we got on the Season 4 pass with a mic stand, two guitars and two keytars--the most instruments on a Festival pass since Season 1. But sorry, drummers--no drum kits this season. Through five Festival seasons, only two drum kits have been included on a pass, and none have been given as quest rewards. On top of the songs, instruments, and the Karol G skin, the Season 5 Festival Pass has a variety of other types of cosmetics, including auras. Scroll on to see every item you'll find in the Fortnite Festival Season 5 pass.

  • Every Main Character In The Borderlands Movie, Ranked
    gamerant.com
The Borderlands movie has a lot of great homages to the series. While there are about eight main characters, the movie is not shy to highlight some smaller fan favorites too. For example, Marcus has a few speaking and background appearances. Fans will know Marcus as the narrator in most games, the voice of various machine vendors, and just a character that introduces Vault Hunters to Pandora.

  • Black Myth: Wukong is an epic saga thats both confounding and spectacular to behold
    www.polygon.com
There was a moment, roughly 20 hours into my near-40-hour playthrough of Black Myth: Wukong, when things finally clicked. A few chapters prior to that point had left me scratching my head, baffled at the introduction of various minor characters, adversaries, and concepts. But at that moment halfway through, when things finally became clearer, I couldnt help but smile. I was hooked, and there was no going back.Black Myth: Wukong, made by China-based studio Game Science, is an action role-playing game inspired by Journey to the West. It, along with Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, and Dream of the Red Chamber, is one of the great pillars of Chinese literature. To adapt the story of Journey to the West, a timeless classic with characters and themes that have remained influential throughout East Asia, is already a daunting task. Thankfully, Game Science has managed to pull off the impossible, weaving together a narrative thats intricate, original, and, at times, thought-provoking.The hardest part about writing this review of Black Myth: Wukong is that the review embargo stipulates that were not allowed to divulge too many details about the games plot outside of a couple of chapters. Suffice it to say, you play as the Destined One, a monkey warrior tasked with retrieving relics that have been lost. You set out on your own odyssey perhaps not to the West, but through six chapters of action and world-building.As a Filipino, I consider myself more of a Romance of the Three Kingdoms buff, though I briefly read Journey to the West ages ago during my high school years. Nevertheless, I did appreciate the campaigns inclusion of numerous characters and plot points, as well as Buddhist teachings and Daoist philosophy, from the novel. These are either shown in detail, relayed in poems, or mentioned in passing, some of which made me go, I understood that reference. The narrative is also about a certain companions background, which I dont want to spoil here. The story explores themes of lifelong regrets, sacrifice, the immutable shaping of ones fate, and the notion that everyone, heroes and villains alike, might just be seeking redemption or a place in the sun. The entire campaigns arc, steeped in Chinese and wider Asian cultural traditions, is woven like fine tapestry and is further complemented by gorgeous visuals and scenes that left me in awe.Similar to Journey to the West, my adventure in Black Myth: Wukong took me to several regions. From lush forests and sand-swept deserts to snow-covered fields and mountains of magma, each environment felt intricately crafted, as though taken from the pages of the novel and brought to life. These biomes are subdivided into multiple areas; the game is not an open world, though there are some large sections with multiple branching paths that lead to more enemies and rewards. For instance, one chapter took place in a hollowed-out underground cavern thats crawling with innumerable spiders, centipedes, and all manner of many-legged creatures. I followed one winding path that led me to several major bosses. Then, I fast-traveled to a previously visited shrine and I took another fork in the road. I eventually stumbled upon some optional bosses, including a scorpion monk that had escaped to some other part of the cave system. These paths also had some nifty HP, mana, and flask upgrades, as well as tranquil meditation spots. And these are just from the initial zone in this particular chapter; the second half actually takes place in a temple complex atop a mountain! The sheer scale of each level made all of them both daunting and extraordinarily stunning in equal measure. There are many side quests and secrets, too. For example, I rang shrine bells in the first level, which caused me to get teleported to a hidden temple. In the desert biome, meanwhile, I collected eyes from Buddha statues. I also helped break the curse of a man whod been trapped in stone, who then sold key items. Later, I tackled the objectives to unlock a hub, allowing vendor NPCs to move to my humble abode. Completing these activities, some of which involved solving cryptic riddles, was a gratifying experience.Surprisingly enough, theres no map whatsoever, and I do admit to getting lost several times. However, learning from the exploits of Journey to the Wests Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Baije, and company, I embraced the notion of exploration, investigating mysterious locales and facing all sorts of perils. Without any hand-holding, I was free to explore to my hearts content which naturally made discoveries even more rewarding.Enemy design in Black Myth: Wukong is also nothing short of outstanding, with the game boasting countless variants of hostiles, known as yaoguai, and nearly 80 bosses to encounter during your travels. Youve got everything from masked monks and anthropomorphic creatures like zodiac animals to celestial entities, gargantuan goliaths, shambling undead that wield different armaments, and even a great dragon that flies around while striking you with lightning. Some foes are surprisingly macabre in nature, almost with a dark fantasy flair, including twin-headed priests that induce madness, ogres that carry the skeletal remains of their beloved, misshapen entities in the throes of corruption, and an angel-like general with a hand for a head. Its not just the sheer epicness of these battles that makes them memorable, but also the way the games designers have lovingly crafted the characters and creatures in homage to the legendary tale and regional folklore. The number of bosses in the game made for a challenging romp, as each opponent had their own movesets and abilities that I had to watch out for. Fortunately, Black Myth: Wukong more than holds its own in the action department, thanks to fast-paced combat, fluid animations, responsive controls, and a plethora of moves at my disposal. As the Destined One, I made use of various magic spells, such as turning into a mist decoy, immobilizing a foe, and summoning multiple duplicates of myself. There are myriad transformations, too, akin to Sun Wukongs powers. Spirit forms momentarily turn you into an elite enemy that you defeated to cast their spell, somewhat akin to Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. The actual transformations, meanwhile, cause you to shape-shift into larger creatures with their own health bars and unique movesets. My favorite has to be the Yin Tiger, which allowed me to deflect incoming blows before countering with a devastating slam using my Buster Sword-esque blade. As for general melee combat, Black Myth: Wukong only lets you wield one type of weapon: a staff with three battle stances. While this concept is understandable lore-wise for a monkey warrior, it unfortunately does result in monotonous gameplay as time wears on. At best, each stances charged attack and mixed combos tend to be different, but normal attack flurries are the same. When I finally unlocked the defensive-counter-oriented Thrust Stance at level 20, which had a backstep move to avoid hits, I barely used the others. In relation to the above, although there are dozens of enemy forms that you can turn into, theyre still limited to two keybinds, one for spirit casts and one for transformations, and by resources that are easily spent. Parrying, a staple of the Soulslike genre, isnt available by default either. Instead, its unlocked as a spell, so I relied more on dodging blows. In effect, I mostly just performed the same melee combos, interspersed with a select few magical abilities, which made the whole affair repetitive after a while.Furthermore, theorycrafting or experimentation with different builds in Black Myth: Wukong isnt that viable, at least in my initial playthrough. Although I completed the campaign at level 80 and its possible to respec at any shrine, I still had to put a lot of points into stances and stat boosts. I only had enough left to allocate for a few spell perks, and not a lot to assign for transformation perks themselves. Compared to other Soulslike games, I cant say if magic-focused or transformation-focused builds would be workable in practice.Performance-wise, I reviewed the game on PC. With an Nvidia RTX 3080, Intel i9-10900K, and 32 GB of RAM, I experienced smooth performance at 4K resolution and with higher graphics settings selected. Note that I wasnt able to try raytracing, since we were told that there were issues with the current pre-release build. All in all, Black Myth: Wukong is an astounding triumph, one that blends a story celebrating Chinese and other East Asian cultures with an original retelling that has resonant themes, all complemented by spectacular design and exhilarating combat. While the narrative is confusing at first as I can personally attest to it nonetheless encourages you to embrace that sense of strangeness and wonder as you venture into distant lands, much like a certain journey written centuries ago that has stood the test of time. Black Myth: Wukong will be released Aug. 20 on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. The game was reviewed on Windows PC using a download code provided by Game Science. Vox Media has affiliate partnerships. • The BMW i5s Design Ties Together the New and the Old For Better or Worse
    design-milk.com
BMWs design team seems a little restless. In just the past few years, they have unveiled (and started to roll back) massive changes to its classic and beloved kidney grille, launched concept designs for future cars like the Vision Neue Klasse, and released crazy-looking vehicles like the BMW XM. But between those headline-making announcements, the company has also been plugging away at new and modern vehicles that both push BMW design forward, while remaining true to what drivers have loved from BMWs of the past and theres perhaps no better embodiment of that than the BMW i5 EV.Whats Old Is New AgainAfter BMW started rolling out new cars with oversized kidney grilles, the backlash was immediate. While the kidney grille is an iconic aspect of BMW design, many fans hated the company taking that design element and stretching it to oversized proportions. Thankfully, the all-electric BMW i5 retains a much more classic look, at least in overall shape. The sportier grille on the BMW i5 M60The car is actually available with two kidney grille designs depending on the trim you get. The higher-end i5 M60 that I recently drove has a slightly sportier kidney grille that has accent lighting around it. Sure, the accent lighting is a little over the top but you can turn it off in the cars settings, if you so choose. That grille is coupled with a secondary lower grille. The i5 eDrive40 variant is a little more traditional, with a standard kidney grille and no lower grille at all a look that I actually prefer. The overall shape of the car as a whole is very BMW too. The vehicle has a long nose and short rear, with a slight curve at the front that culminates in the slanted, slim headlights. The headlights look great mean looking and stylish, without being too thin, like those on the iX.Rear of the BMW i5 M60The i5 that I drove came in the stunning Brooklyn Grey Metallic a finish that could well be my favorite BMW color. It isnt quite as vibrant as some of the bright blue BMW colors out there, but it retains the overall feel of a white BMW while looking slightly more modern.Whats New Is NewTheres no doubt that the exterior of the BMW i5 is designed to look and feel like classic BMWs while adding some modern flares. Step inside the vehicle, however, and youll find a much bolder approach to updating design. Some of this is great news for modern drivers. The i5 features a large and vibrant 14.9-inch infotainment display, which is stunning. Thats not to mention the beautiful stitched leather upholstery that adorns the seats, center console, and elements of the dashboard. And, I really like the accent lighting that stretches across the front of the interior, even if it can feel a little gaudy at times. The crystal control knob in the BMW i5But its not all good news. Like other modern carmakers, BMW has removed physical climate controls in favor of mostly digital ones. This isnt always a bad decision some carmakers have designed their software in a way that allows drivers to always have access to climate controls, no matter what is being shown on the screen. BMW has not taken this approach, which, frankly, is the bare minimum. Drivers will have to tap at least a few times to make the changes that they want to make and when your software is sluggish at the best of times, thats not only frustrating, it can verge on becoming downright dangerous. Some of the interior design Im neutral about. Everyone seemingly has an opinion on the crystal knob in the center console for software controls, but I just dont. I dont use it instead sticking with using the touch screen. But, I also dont hate it.The Future of BMW DesignIts a little unclear exactly where BMW will go from here. However, the company did offer some insight into the future of its design through the Vision Neue Klasse concepts that it recently released.Look closely and youll notice a physical grille work has been replaced by layers of light to conjure the identifiable hallmarks of the BMW kidney grille, an effect modernized by the diagonal slash of two headlights at each corner.Obviously, unlike the i5, Vision Neue Klasse is just a concept, and theres no reason to expect that BMW is going to release a car that looks much like those any time soon. But if it does move in that direction, hopefully it retains what drivers have long loved about BMW vehicles and keeps functionality in mind, especially when it comes to things like easily accessible physical controls. For more information on the BMW i5, head to bmwusa.com.

  • My Four Favorite Stretches for Hamstrings
    lifehacker.com
Are your hamstrings tight? Mine too. I can just barely touch my toes, and thats after some improvement thanks to semi-regular flexibility work. Tight hamstrings can get in the way of movements like bending over, and can force you into inefficient positions in exercises like deadlifts. On the other hand, if your hamstrings are already pretty limber, working further on hamstring flexibility can help you to unlock skills that the rest of us can only dream of, like advanced yoga poses. So here are some of the best hamstring stretches that can help you get started on that journey, or move you further along if youre already doing pretty well.Single leg standing hamstring stretch This one is my favorite, and its lot less intimidating for beginners than a lot of the more common stretches. Find a place to prop up one heel, whether thats a yoga block in front of you (easier) or a chair or tabletop (harder).Keeping your back flat, and bending your knee if you need to, bend forward, bringing your belly toward your thigh. You can hold the stretch for 30 to 60 seconds, or do a dynamic version by gently moving into and out of the stretch.Toe touchesThats right, touching your toes isnt just a test of flexibility, its also a stretch in itself. Toe-touches for reps are a good dynamic stretch. And you don't have to literally touch your toes--just reach in their direction, and get as low as you comfortably can.To do this as a stretch, gently hinge your hips and reach as low as you can (with knees soft, if you need or prefer). Stand up and then do it again. Youll probably find yourself going just a bit deeper with each rep.Yoga strap stretch This one starts with you lying on your back. If you have a yoga strap, great! If not, use a towel, belt, sweatshirt, or whatever is handy.Put the strap (or strap substitute) on your foot, and raise that leg to try to get it pointing toward the ceiling. If youre very flexible, keep going; gymnasts and other bendy people may be able to bring their shin all the way to their face. This video gives you a 10-minute yoga session where you spend time in this position.Dynamic Frankenstein kicks For a quick pre-workout stretch, try this one. From a standing position, hold your arm out in front of you, and try to kick your hand with a straight(ish) leg. You can do these standing or walking, as in the video. Combine these with some high knees and skips for a pre-run warmup.Tips for more effective hamstring stretchesWhen to stretch: If your hamstrings are tight enough that theyre interfering with strength workouts, consider doing some stretches before a workout. Otherwise, the best time to stretch is after a workout, or in a dedicated session where youve taken some time to warm up first.Keep your back flat. Even though these stretches focus on your legs, youll want your pelvis to be in the right position for your hamstrings to benefit. Keep your back flat, so that youre hinging from your hips rather than rounding your lower back.Dont be afraid to bend your knees. Its better to have your hips in the right position and bend your knees, than to straighten your knees and round your back. Any of the exercises below can be done with bent knees. Work on straightening your knees over time.

  • Margrethe Vestager, Big Tech's European nemesis, reportedly steps down later this year
    www.engadget.com
Margrethe Vestager, the European Union's commissioner for competition, won't be back for a third term and will be stepping down this year. According to the Financial Times, the Danish government will be nominating a different candidate as EU commissioner after Vestager's political party didn't do well in the previous election. Vestager is known for being one of Europe's top antitrust authorities and has been been tough on big tech companies during her term. The market abuse cases she has filed over the years inspired the creation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which is a regulation meant to ensure that large companies don't abuse their market power.Apple, Google, Meta and other big players in the industry have had to implement changes to how they conduct business after the DMA came into force. Google, for instance, said it will start displaying price comparison results in Search from external aggregators when looking up services, such as flights or hotels. It will be easier for Android users to change search engines, as well. Apple said it will let companies set up their own app stores for iOS, but it conjured its own stringent rules that developers will have to follow. The EU, under Vestager, started investigating Apple, Alphabet and Meta in March to look into their efforts to comply with the DMA. In an interview with CNBC afterward, Vestager said that Apple has "very serious" issues when it comes to non-compliance. Vestager also ruled way back in 2016 that Irish tax authorities had given Apple a "sweetheart deal" for over a decade and had ordered the company to pay Ireland 14.3 billion ($15.72 billion) in taxes. EU's General Court overturned her order in 2020, but the commission had appealed that decision. The European Commission also fined Google 4.3 billion ($5 billion) for antitrust violations surrounding Android and $2.8 billion for favoring its own comparison shopping services over others in Search under her leadership. More recently, the EU slapped Apple with a 1.8 billion ($1.95 billion) fine for suppressing music streaming services on the App Store that rival its own.European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen will start interviewing new candidates next week, the Times said. Vestager's replacement is expected to replace her this autumn. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/big-tech/margrethe-vestager-big-techs-european-nemesis-reportedly-steps-down-later-this-year-140024124.html?src=rss
