  • KIRI Engine 3.13 Released With New High-Fidelity 3DGS Training Method
    cgshares.com
KIRI Innovations has launched KIRI Engine Version 3.13, the newest update to its powerful 3D scanner app for iPhone, Android, and Web, bringing major enhancements that improve functionality, efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility while also marking a major step forward in 3D Gaussian Splatting technology. The new 3D Gaussian Splatting algorithm offers significant improvements in visual quality. Users can expect better resolution, color accuracy, and rendering consistency across viewing angles. With the same input, it produces 3DGS scenes with much higher fidelity, both when viewing the scene holistically and when examining details up close. These improvements unlock new possibilities in fields like field surveys and environmental and design visualizations.Below are the results of the new High-Fidelity 3DGS method (middle) and the 3DGS from two other scanner apps (left and right) using the same input:KIRI Innovations based this optimization on the Mini-Splatting2 paper by Guangchi Fang, whose research on aggressive Gaussian densification and visibility Gaussian culling formed the core of these advancements. The optimization was achieved by raising the input threshold, placing more emphasis on the quality of the source material. While its natural to question whether this higher input threshold could affect generation speed or overall performance, both concerns have been effectively addressed through extra optimizations. With these improvements, the 3DGS algorithm now processes files in half the time of previous versions. According to developers, where earlier versions took 5-7 minutes for Gaussian training, the new version completes the same task in just 2-3 minutes. The speed boost was achieved by reducing the point-cloud datas density, prioritizing image resolution and visual quality instead. These optimizations result in faster, more accurate Gaussian splat reconstruction, enabling near real-time transfer of environmental visual data. The quicker processing also supports faster iteration, making it easier to experiment and refine workflows for more trial and error.Another key improvement is the reduction in 3DGS file sizes, now about 50% smaller. This is also due to the lower point-cloud density, naturally leading to smaller files while still maintaining higher fidelity thanks to the increased focus on resolution. This optimization uses aggressive Gaussian densification, quickly generating dense point clouds that are refined into evenly distributed splats for better visual dynamics, resulting in fewer file sizes and faster scene loading.Integrating 3DGS files into DCC software like Blender will also reduce workload and rendering time, enabling a faster workflow.KIRI Engines Co-Founder Chris created a dedicated demo page to provide more detailed comparisons and technological insights regarding High-Fidelity 3D Gaussian Splatting. You can check it out here.Additionally, all of the apps scanning methods now supportvideo and photo inputs. The3DGS to Mesh feature allows users to select the desired to-mesh file type during the initial 3DGS upload, and the quality of mesh textures has been improved. A new opening animation has also been added, offering a visually captivating way to showcase projects. The KIRI Engine website has been revamped for improved usability, with easier navigation to access tools, resources, and learning materials. • Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap Review
    gamerant.com
After the conservative step forward that was Orcs Must Die 3, the cult-favorite franchise is back with Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, a sequel that is both more inventive and more derivative than its predecessors. Deathtrap's greatest departure from series' convention is its roguelike gameplay, while the meat and potatoes of the experience is left more or less untouched. This can be a mixed bag. On the one hand, why fix what isn't broken? But at the same time, some of the game's broader structural elements can feel tacked-on and underbaked.

Players of Throne and Liberty will receive an array of free items as compensation for prolonged downtime caused by the Lunar Celebration updates, which began on January 22. The free-to-play MMORPG by Amazon Games and NCSoft was released to much fanfare in the latter half of last year. Throne and Liberty enjoyed a solid start, posting strong player numbers and garnering mostly positive reviews before the full release. However, the game has been hit by a string of technical issues since its global launch.
