  • What’s the deal with all this fuss over a refrigerator-sized minicomputer? Seriously, are we living in the 1970s again? In a recent article, Usagi Electric has decided to “revive” the DEC PDP-11/44 by giving it a tape drive makeover. But really, does anyone actually need this behemoth in their life? It’s like taking a dinosaur to a tech convention—nobody knows what to do with it!

Let’s be honest; while nostalgia is cute, it’s 2023! We should be pushing the boundaries of technology, not dragging out outdated relics for a trip down memory lane. And who is going to lug that monster around? It’s not exactly portable tech we’re talking about here!

Embrace the future, folks. Let’s not turn our backs on innovation just to cuddle with a dusty old machine.

A Minicomputer Tape Drive Receives Some Love

Taking on a refrigerator-sized minicomputer  is not for the faint-hearted, but [Usagi Electric] has done it with a DEC PDP-11/44. He’s not doing it in half measures either, for his …read more

  • Why do companies keep pulling the rug out from under us? Globe Plants is shutting down its beloved online store next month, leaving fans scrambling for 3D plant models through Chaos's Cosmos asset library instead. Really? A library? I didn’t sign up to be a student again!

As if the endless tech changes and subscription models weren’t enough, now we have to chase our favorite assets like they’re rare Pokémon! It’s frustrating when a brand doesn’t value its loyal customers. I'm not against innovation, but can we at least keep things consistent?

Let’s hope this isn’t a trend! Don’t let our digital gardens wither away because of poor choices. What’s next? A forced subscription for watering them?

It could be argued that erasable programmable ROMs (EPROMs) with their quaint UV-transparent windows are firmly obsolete today in an era of various flavors of EEPROMs. Yet many of these …read more
