  • Key Cybersecurity Challenges In 2025Trends And Observations
    www.forbes.com
Digital 2025 Sign on Computer Code. 3D RendergettyIn 2025, cybersecurity is gaining significant momentum. However, there are still many challenges to address. The ecosystem remains unstable in spite of investments and the introduction of new tools. In addition to adding my own findings, I have examined some recent statistics, trends, and remedies. Among the subjects covered are ransomware, DDoS attacks, quantum technology, healthcare breaches, artificial intelligence and AI agents, and cybersecurity for space assets. No doubt, there are many more that could be added.Mechanical artificial intelligence eyeball with glowing blue, pink, and purple lines converginggettyArtificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and AI Agents87% of security professionals report that their organization has encountered an AI-driven cyber-attack in the last year, according to a new study by SoSafe, Europes largest security awareness and human risk management solution. 87% of firms hit by AI cyber-attacksAgents are the talk of the AI industrytheyre capable of planning, reasoning, and executing complex tasks like scheduling meetings, ordering groceries, or even taking over your computer to change settings on your behalf. But the same sophisticated abilities that make agents helpful assistants could also make them powerful tools for conducting cyberattacks. They could readily be used to identify vulnerable targets, hijack their systems, and steal valuable data from unsuspecting victims. Cyberattacks by AI agents are coming | MIT Technology Reviewenefits such as cyber protection technologies, AI may also have disadvantages as described in the articles above. Threat actors can use them. Malicious hackers and antagonistic countries can already recognize and exploit vulnerabilities in threat detection models using AI agents. However, agentic AI enabled cybersecurity holds enormous potential for detecting, filtering, neutralizing, and remediating cyberthreats. Agentic AI can tackle the core issues of threat detection, response time, and analyst burden. Security teams can function more efficiently in a more hostile digital environment thanks to these technologies, which automate operations while preserving human oversight.Additionally, GenAI and predictive algorithms may be able to use predictive models in cybersecurity more effectively, producing better outcomes and more reliable security data. AI agents combined with GenAI could be used to recommend paths for mitigation and optimize cybersecurity knowledge and incident response for businesses and organizations.AI Agents TrendingThe growth in the popularity of AI agents in the latter months of 2024 mirrors how ChatGPT and other generative AI systems catapulted into and transformed the AI market in 2022. Vendors seemingly jumped from developing the latest large language models (LLMs) and AI chatbots to creating agents and action models. 2025 will be the year of AI agents | TechTargetAI Agents For Good- Artificial General Decision Making (AGD) A San Francisco company founded in 2023 called Klover AI defines Artificial General Decision Making (AGD) as the creation of systems designed to enhance human decision-making capabilities, ultimately leading to superhuman productivity and efficiency for individuals . The fundamental goal of AGD, according to the company, is to empower individuals to such an extent that every person on the planet can achieve a state of superhuman capability through the use of advanced decision-making systems. Dany Kitishian, the founder of Klover AI, describes these AI agents as sophisticated software entities capable of perceiving their environment, making informed decisions, and performing actions to achieve specific objectives, thereby significantly enhancing communication and user interactions . This vision is rooted in the idea of augmenting human capabilities rather than replacing them, aligning with a people-centered AI strategy that aims to amplify human strengths and provide individuals with more opportunities through better-informed systems . Google Gemini Deep Research confirms Klover pioneered and Coined Artificial General Decision Making (AGD) | by Dany Kitishian | kloverai | Mar, 2025 | MediumCB Thoughts: Advancements in technology have led to significant changes in businesses and societal norms through artificial intelligence. This new era may alter our self-perception through AI and machine learning-based computing and Agentic AI will be a catalyst and help lead the way. The integration of engineering, computer algorithms, and culture is ushering in an era of rapidly advancing, interconnected devices. The growth of technology will influence societal progression. Scientific and technological developments are anticipated to significantly impact humanity. A doctor interacting with medical icons on a futuristic interface, conceptualizing advanced ... More healthcare technology on a blue-toned workspace backgroundgettyHealthcare Breaches Continue to RiseIn 2024, healthcare data breaches reached an all-time high, with 276,775,457 records compromised a 64.1% increase from the previous years record and equivalent to 81.38% of the United States population. Despite managing sensitive patient data, findings reveal that healthcare organizations still struggle with corporate customer data protection. Data breaches rock leading US hospitals| CybernewsCyberattacks targeting healthcare organizations are rising, and the financial and operational toll they take is growing. A recent report from Proofpoint found 92% of healthcare organizations reported experiencing a cyberattack in 2024, up from 88% in 2023, while the average cost of the most expensive attack was $4.7 million. The Biggest Healthcare Cybersecurity Threats in 2025 | HealthTechCB Thoughts: It is hardly surprising that criminal hackers are still focusing on the healthcare industry. As medical care grows more networked and connected through computers and other devices, the digital environment of health administration, clinics, hospitals, and patients has become increasingly vulnerable. It is necessary to safeguard many facets of the cybersecurity healthcare environment. These include safeguarding patient privacy, securing medical devices and equipment, and protecting hospital and medical facility information security networks. Healthcare organizations must implement intrusion detection and response systems, conduct regular security audits, and use penetration testing to safeguard sensitive data. In addition to reducing the impact of bot assaults and improper IT configurations, these techniques can be used to identify potential insider threats. Multifactor authentication and employee training are two aspects of good cyber hygiene that hospitals and other healthcare organizations should implement. Additionally, they want to employ several firewalls, multilayer protection, and real-time network system monitoring. To reduce security risks, medical devices should also be encrypted. Plans for backup, recovery, and continuity should be in place for hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The risks are too high to overlook the necessity of an all-encompassing approach to holistic cybersecurity.Digital background depicting innovative technologies in (AI) artificial systems, neural interfaces ... More and internet machine learning technologiesgettyQuantum Cybersecurity Becoming an ImperativeQuantum computing is becoming real and will soon be able to solve problems well beyond the capabilities of today's fastest supercomputers. In the wrong hands, however, quantum computers will also create a new pain level for cybersecurity professionals. How quantum cybersecurity changes the way you protect data | TechTargetIn a striking development, researchers have created a quantum algorithm that allows quantum computers to better understand and preserve the very phenomenon they rely on quantum entanglement. Quantum Computers Just Got Smart Enough to Study Their Own EntanglementThese computers work by harnessing quantum physics the strange, often counterintuitive laws that govern the universe at its smallest scales and coldest temperatures. Todays quantum computers are rudimentary and error-prone. But if more advanced and robust versions can be made, they have the potential to rapidly crunch through certain problems that would take the current computers years. Thats why governments, companies and research labs around the world are working feverishly toward this goal. Quantum Computing Explained | NISTCB Thoughts: There is concern that protected data may be cracked using quantum computers in the future. The processing power of quantum computers poses a risk to cybersecurity through their ability to quickly decode complex problems. This situation poses an immediate threat to financial systems and critical infrastructure. The RSA-2048 encryption standard would require a billion years for a conventional computer to break, but a quantum computer could theoretically do so in less than two minutes. Quantum researchers refer to the day when large-scale quantum computers can use Shor's algorithm to break all public key systems based on integer factorization as "Q-Day". The era of quantum computing is approaching faster than anticipated, with artificial intelligence likely to be integrated with quantum technology. The convergence of these technologies will have significant implications. It is important to prepare for both the positive and negative impacts of quantum technologies due to their disruptive potential. Also see: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckbrooks/2025/02/22/quantum-computing-has-arrived-we-need-to-prepare-for-its-impact/Global network connection covering the earth with lines of innovative perception . In the proverbial game of keeping data safe and secure, how is the cybersecurity world keeping up?Via Satellite spoke with cybersecurity and space experts to predict whats to come in 2025, including the impact of rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum technologies. Game-Changing Predictions for Cybersecurity in 2025 | April/May 2025Protecting the frontier of space systems is unquestionably a security priority for governments and industry. Due to our increasing reliance on space, and particularly satellites, for communications, security, intelligence, and business, satellite and space cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important in this new digital era. (26) Cybersecurity of Space Systems | LinkedInCB Thoughts: Space increasingly serves nations for information exchange and surveillance, monitoring threats and geopolitical developments, which is essential for national security. The national security apparatus recognizes the rising threat posed by cyber threats to satellites. The reliance on space and satellites for communications, security, intelligence, and commerce highlights the growing importance of satellite and space security in the digital era. In recent years, the number of satellite launches has increased, resulting in thousands of satellites in low-Earth orbit that are susceptible to cyberattacks. Satellites facilitate data transfer over long, international distances, and many communication networks are transitioning from land-based communications to cloud systems. As launch costs have decreased, the number of satellites in orbit has surged, expanding the potential targets for hackers both in space and at ground control centers.Email Phishing Ransomware Malware Hacker AttackgettyAlarming Ransomware Attacks ContinueA new report from Ivanti surveyed more than 2,400 security leaders and found that the top predicted threat for 2025 is ransomware. According to the report, nearly 1 out of every 3 security professionals (38%) believe ransomware will become an even greater threat when powered by AI. The report found a gap in preparedness for ransomware attacks, with only 29% of security leaders saying they are very prepared for ransomware incidents. 1 in 3 security leaders say AI will make ransomware a greater threat | Security MagazineThe Travelers Companies, an insurer, published findings indicating that ransomware remains a significant threat. The fourth quarter of 2024 experienced the highest level of ransomware activity recorded in any prior quarter, with a total of 1,663 known victims posted on leak sites, according to that research. In addition, 55 new ransomware groups emerged last year a 67% increase in group formation compared with 2023, the Travelers report said. Ransomware attacks surged 50% in February: NCC | CFO DiveCB Thoughts: Businesses are facing ransomware more frequently because of AI enabled phishing attacks combined with social engineering. In ransomware attacks, hackers encrypt vital files so victims cannot access their data. They demand a ransom to restore the systems and data. These attacks can spread fear and disrupt company networks and systems, especially for businesses dependent on supply chain coordination. Small businesses, healthcare facilities, and higher education institutions have been found to be the most susceptible sector to ransomware cyberattacks due to their lack of cybersecurity expertise and significant security resources. They have paid a high price and frequently covertly pay ransoms in cryptocurrencies to avoid liabilities and suffering closures, even though it is not encouraged.DDOS attack concept. DDoS inscription on digital background. 3d render.gettyDDoS Attacks ProblematicThe number of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks has shot up since the first half of last year, according to new research, with DDoS-for-hire services becoming increasingly sophisticated. Figures from Netscout show there were almost nine million DDoS attacks in the second half of 2024, up 12.75% on the first half. The rise is driven by the increasing use of DDoS attacks as a tool of choice in cyber warfare linked to socio-political events such as elections, civil protests, and policy disputes. Surging DDoS attack rates show no sign of slowing down heres why | IT ProCB Thoughts: A Denial-of-Service attack (DDoS) occurs when an adversary utilizes many devices to flood a target system, network, or website with traffic. This technique stops authorized users from accessing the target by overloading its processing power. Hackers often target networking equipment that connects to the internet in DDoS assaults, taking advantage of common server and network device behavior. As a result, attackers focus on edge network elements (such switches and routers) rather than individual servers. A denial-of-service attack overloads the devices that deliver bandwidth, or the network's pipe. DDoS as a service platform is also used by criminals to launch assaults against corporate websites and demand ransom payments, threatening to degrade the service if the money is not paid.As innovative technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing advance in capabilities and comprehension, 2025 will see a variety of both old and new cyberthreats. For everyone concerned, defending their data and business continuity against cyberattacks will be particularly difficult this year.

  • Could Mitochondria Be The Missing Link In Mental Illness? 12 Insights
    www.forbes.com
Microscopic view of mitochondriaoften called the "powerhouses of the cell." Emerging science shows ... More their critical role in brain function, stress response, and mental health.gettyTheres a quiet revolution underway in psychiatryone that doesnt start and end with a prescription pad. On a recent episode of the Huberman Lab podcast, Harvard psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Chris Palmer made a compelling case that may reshape the current understanding of mental illness. The common thread is something we all learned about in high school biology: its about mitochondria (and mental health). As it turns out, mitochondria aka the powerhouse of the cell do more than just churn out energy. They regulate brain function, stress responses, hormones, and inflammation. And when they fail, mental health problems can emerge. Here are 12 powerful insights from the conversation that just might change how we think about mental health.1. Mental Illness Begins in the MitochondriaPsychiatric symptoms may stem from impaired cellular energy production. Neurons rely heavily on ATP the energy molecule produced by mitochondria to fire, repair and communicate. When energy is low, the brain cant perform at full capacity. This can lead to emotional and cognitive symptoms. Multiple studies like this one have identified mitochondrial dysfunction in depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, suggesting that energy failure may be a unifying pathway in many psychiatric conditions.2. Metabolic Health = Mental HealthTheres a strong overlap between metabolic disorders and mental illness. Conditions like insulin resistance, obesity, and cardiovascular disease are linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Its no coincidencethe systems that regulate blood sugar, inflammation and energy also impact the brain.A recent study in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that individuals with metabolic syndrome were 1.3 to 1.5 times more likely to suffer from depression, reinforcing that the brain is deeply tied to the bodys metabolic machinery specifically the mitochondria.3. Adverse Childhood Experiences Worsen The Function Of Mitochondria And Mental HealthTrauma is more than emotional baggage it can change biology. Individuals with six or more Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) live, on average, 20 years less than peers. Chronic stress harms the mitochondria, drives inflammation, and alters gene expression, accelerating aging and disease.A study published in PNAS examined the impact of childhood maltreatment on mitochondrial bioenergetics. Researchers found that mothers with a history of childhood maltreatment exhibited increased mitochondrial respiration and density in their peripheral blood mononuclear cells suggesting early life stress can lead to lasting changes in mitochondrial function.4. We Need to Stop Siloing Mental HealthMental health care has historically operated in disconnected domains: psychology, biology, and social support. Each of these tend to be treated as separate lanes. Yet these boundaries are blurring. Emotions, physical health, trauma history, and environment interact. Any effective approach must integrate all three because mental illness is not just a psychological phenomenon. Its about the linkage between biology, relationships and lifestyle.5. Improving Lifestyle Through Wellness Habits Is FoundationalSix lifestyle pillars nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, avoiding substances and social connection are powerful tools for brain health. These habits can restore mitochondrial function and even reverse the course of some psychiatric conditions. A landmark randomized controlled study, the SMILES trial, found that intense nutritional counseling led to significant improvement in depressive symptoms compared to usual care, highlighting how dietary patterns can directly affect mood.6. Exercise Builds Better Brain Cells, Improving Mitochondria And Mental HealthRegular physical activity increases both the number and efficiency of mitochondrianot just in muscle, but also in the brain. That translates into more energy, sharper cognition, better mood, and improved stress tolerance. This is one reason why elite endurance athletes may not look physically imposing, but their muscle (and brain) tissue is packed with high-functioning mitochondria.Regular moderate-intensity Zone 2 exercise for 150 to 300 minutes per week might not seem like a mental health treatment but it may be for some people.7. Nutrition Is Powerful For Both Mitochondria And Mental HealthThink less about specific superfoods and trendy supplements. Its not just about eating more blueberries. What matters most is the overall dietary pattern. Diets high in refined carbs and ultra-processed foods disrupt metabolism and brain function. The principle is simple: food is information and your brain is always listening.8. Substance Use Ravages Mitochondria And Mental HealthAlcohol, stimulants, and tobacco all impair mitochondrial functionsometimes permanently. They increase the production of toxic byproducts, which damage cells and contribute to inflammation and oxidative stress. Over time, this can lead to emotional volatility, cognitive decline, and metabolic dysfunction. Even low doses arent necessarily harmless, especially if used chronically.9. Serotonin Isnt the Whole StoryThe old model of depression being solely a chemical imbalance usually involving serotonin is not entirely complete. Antidepressants dont simply replace whats missing. Instead, they alter how brain circuits fire, often by modulating metabolism and creating an environment may supports change. They can be helpful and sometimes life-saving. Yet theyre part of the picture not the whole solution.10. Mitochondria Power the Stress ResponseThe human stress response involves four key systems: cortisol, adrenaline, inflammation and gene expression. Mitochondria are involved in all four. They help turn stress on and off. When theyre healthy, we adapt and recover. When theyre damaged or depleted, we get stuck in survival mode, unable to return to baseline. Resilience, in this view, can be seen a function of cellular energy.11. Mental Health Interventions Need To Be PersonalizedSome people need therapy. Others need medication. Yet also some need changes in sleep, diet, and exercise. There is no universal prescriptiononly individual patterns of biology and behavior. The best care is flexible, layered and tailored. Treatment should not solely ask whether someone should be on meds or not. Rather it is address asks what combination of tools will unlock healing.12. We May Be Due for a Paradigm ShiftMental health care is finally starting to address the fact that the brain is a part of the body and its disorders are systemic. With a better understanding how metabolism, mitochondria, and lifestyle interact, clinicians may be able to prevent, reverse or radically rethink conditions once seen as lifelong. The future of psychiatry may be as much about biology as it is about talk therapy. A key component is what people eat, how they sleep, and how often they exercise.Ultimately, mental health isnt just about thoughts and feelings. Its about the biology that powers them. While health systems may take time to catch up, individualsand forward-thinking clinicianscan start applying the science of mitochondria and mental health. Because healing the mind may begin with something as simple as moving more, eating better, and sleeping well.

  • BYD Sealion 7 Enters Crowded Midsize SUV EV Market Can It Prevail?
    www.forbes.com
BYD is finally entering the popular midsize SUV market.BYDIf theres one Chinese brand that youre destined to hear an increasing amount from in the coming years, its BYD. The company sold a record 4.27 million new energy vehicles in 2024, 1.76 million of which were battery electric, only slightly behind Teslas 1.79 million. BYD has been selling cars in Europe since 2022, and in the UK from 2023. The latest vehicle to hit Britain is the BYD Sealion 7. Its another midsized SUV, BYDs first in Europe. I took it for a spin to find out if it has enough to stand out in an overcrowded category.BYD Sealion 7 Joins Growing Electric RangeBYDs initial all-electric cars in the European market were the ATTO3 (a smaller SUV), Seal (sedan) and the Dolphin (a compact hatchback). Considering the value of the midsized SUV market globally, its a surprise that the Sealion 7 wasnt the first model to hit the market from BYD. However, it arrives in an already crowded space, even if we just include the Chinese options. Theres the XPENG G6 in this class, the Leapmotor C10, and Deepal S07. Even Omodas E5 and the MGS5 EV could be competitors at the low end of the price bracket. Higher up the scale is Zeekrs forthcoming 7X.The Sealion 7 has a coupe look but is really more a standard SUV.BYDOf course, the most obvious comparison outside Chinese imports is the Tesla Model Y, which was just refreshed. The Sealion 7 is more in the Model Ys range because of its price, performance and battery capacity. Whatever your feelings about the Tesla brand right now, its Model Y has always been a tough act to beat, with class-leading interior space, range and performance. This is the most likely car you will be considering at the same time as the Sealion 7.The BYD Sealion 7 compares reasonably well with the Tesla Model Y in terms of powertrain. The basic Comfort model comes with an 82.5kWh battery and 312PS motor driving the rear wheels. The Design AWD partners the same battery with an all-wheel drive system delivering 530PS. The Excellence AWD uses the same motor but with a 91.3kWh battery. There arent any trim subdivisions of these three versions, other than a few optional extras. Equipment is generous across the board, with a panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, a 360-degree parking camera and adaptive crise control as standard. Aside from the powertrain variations, theres not much to differentiate between the three versions, apart from 20in wheels for the all-wheel drive cars and a head-up display plus leather seats for the Excellence. Whichever version you go for, the specification is high.BYD Sealion 7: Quality Exterior And InteriorThe Sealion 7 looks nice enough, with a grille-less tapered nose that indicates this is a pure BEV platform. The angular lights provide a serious, purposeful appearance. The rear slopes slightly, in a nod to the coupe SUV fashion, but this is still more of a regular SUV. The wheel arches are somewhat squared off with rugged plastic surrounds to resist damage. Overall, this is a reasonably attractive car but not overtly eye-catching.The front seats are attractive and comfortable.BYDThe interior is more of an indication that the Sealion 7 is a quality vehicle, with particularly comfortable and attractively upholstered front seats. These look sporty and have high side bolsters, which keep you firmly in place during vigorous driving. Theres a high central console with built-in wireless smartphone charging, generously sized cupholders and storage under the integrated armrest. The rear seat experience is comfortable and spacious too.BYDRear space is excellent, with plenty of legroom and headroom, accentuated by the panoramic sunroof. The outer seats are as attractively stitched as the front ones and equally comfortable; the middle seat will be more cramped for an adult over an extended period of time but you can pull the seatback down to create an armrest with cupholders if there are only two in the back.Overall, the BYD Sealion 7 interior has a premium feel, which is indicative of the great leaps forward Chinese cars have made in the last the few years. The Deepal S07 punches above its weight in terms of interior quality for the money, and the XPENG G6 while a bit more functional is still well designed. In general, interiors are where Chinese cars are showing the most improvement, if you look back to what it was like inside the original MG ZS EV or MG5 EV (both great value cars). BMW still wears the crown for interior quality, but Chinese brands are catching up fast. The Sealion 7 has a quality interior.BYDThe BYD Sealion 7s tech and cabin experience are also impressive. The steering wheel has plenty of solid-feeling function buttons and traditional stalks, but climate control is almost exclusively operated via the Sealion 7s 15.6in infotainment screen. This has a trick up its sleeve like the ATTO3. It can rotate from portrait to landscape. This is more of a preference thing than having any different functionality in either orientation. Overall, the menu speed and layout make operations easy to find and smooth to operate.Safety tech is comprehensive, including front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, blind spot detection and adaptive cruise control. Theres lane centering (although not quite autonomous highway driving in the UK), automatic emergency braking, and cross traffic systems that alert you when travelling forwards and apply brakes when reversing. Its a comprehensive list of driver assistances.Plenty of cargo space for trips to the DIY store.BYDWhile rear passenger space is great, this hasnt been achieved at the expense of rear cargo space. The basic luggage capacity is 520 liters, which rises to 1,789 liters with the rear seats down. The Tesla Model Y offers more but the Sealion 7 still has plenty of space for shopping, family trips, or picking up materials from the DIY store. Theres a 58-liter frunk as well, which is usefully large. The Sealion 7 can tow 750kg braked, with the AWD cars also able to manage 1,500kg braked. However, this requires a third-party OEM-certified towbar.Driving The BYD Sealion 7The version of the Sealion 7 I drove was the dual motor Excellence. Its more fun than many in this class, with plenty of power available. Both AWD cars take 4.5 seconds to hit 62mph, making them slightly faster than the Tesla Model Y Long Range (although the current Launch Edition has the Acceleration Boost to make it quicker). The Comfort is still quite fast, taking 6.7 seconds to hit 62mph.The central infotainment screen can rotate into portrait orientation.BYDUntil I get my hands on the new Model Y, I cant compare the driving experience to that, but the performance of the Sealion 7 AWD is on par with the old Model Y dual-motor Long Range, and the ride quality better, although this is purportedly an area where Tesla has improved. The Sealion 7 isnt quite a sporty drive, but it is comfortably quick for an overtake and you can throw this heavy SUV around a bit if you want (it weighs between 2.2 and 2.4 tons, depending on the version).Range is decent if not class leading across all Sealion 7 models. The Comfort version has a 300-mile WLTP rating, which drops to 283 miles for the Design AWD. Thanks to its larger pack, the Excellence AWD goes furthest of all, at 312 miles. However, weve had smaller BEV SUVs capable of this kind of range with smaller batteries for years, and the Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD goes a lot further with a smaller battery. The Sealion 7's charging performance is competitive, although its range is average.BYDDC charging is quick, with 150kW maximum for the 82.5kWh pack and 230kW for the 91.3kWh unit. This means rapid charging from 10-80% takes 32 minutes for the smaller battery and 24 minutes for the larger one, giving the Excellence AWD particularly strong long-distance potential, although the other two cars will be fine too.BYDs warranty is generous too. The basic guarantee is for 6 years or 93,750 miles, with the drive motor and controller for the same mileage but extended to 8 years. The battery also has an 8-year warranty but for 125,000 miles and 70% capacity. Its worth noting that BYD uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries in all its cars, where other manufacturers use this chemistry only in cheaper models. LFP technology tends to be less energy dense than Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) but is also safer and can endure as much as three times as many charge-discharge cycles. So you can be confident the Sealion 7 will maintain its range over years of use.BYD Sealion 7: Can It Compete? The BYD Sealion 7 is a quality, high-performance package with competitive features in most areas. However, its not as cheap as you might expect from a Chinese challenger brand. It starts at 47,000 ($60,500) for the Comfort version, 52,000 ($67,000) for the Design AWD, and 59,000 ($76,000) for the Excellence AWD, which puts it very squarely up against the Tesla Model Y. You still get more range, performance and cargo capacity for your money (at the moment) with the Y but there could be trouble ahead for the Tesla brand and you might be considering other options, which puts the Sealion 7 well into the picture.BYD is set to be an increasingly visible brand on UK roads in the coming years.BYDPredicting what will happen in the automotive market amidst the global ructions caused by the US Trump administration is increasingly difficult. However, in the UK market at least, BYD has plenty of potential, and its likely to continue to do well in Europe too. The BYD Sealion 7 takes the company into this lucrative, high-volume segment of the car market. Next up will be the Dolphin Surf, a small car targeting the low-cost end of business. Were probably going to see a lot more BYD-branded vehicles on UK and European roads over the next few years.

ROSEMONT, ILLINOIS - APRIL 4: CM Punk and Roman Reigns face off during SmackDown at Allstate Arena ... More on April 4, 2025 in Rosemont, Illinois. (Photo by Eric Johnson/WWE via Getty Images)WWE via Getty ImagesTo say Fridays episode of Smackdown in Chicago was eventful is an understatement. We saw two No. 1 contenders matches, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman shed light on one of the biggest storyline secrets in WWE over the past several months, Rey Fenix had a fantastic debut match against Nathan Frazer, and Charlotte Flairthe greatest female Superstar in historygot absolutely cooked on the microphone.Charlotte is headed for a Womens World Championship match with Tiffany Stratton, and quite honestly, their feud has lacked some pizazz and flavor. Things changed on Friday. Some fans believe it was a shoot, and theres good reason. In any case, Stratton smoked Flair as the latter was overtaken by a hostile Chicago crowd that intimidated her off her podium.Loud booswere talking Dirty Dominik Mysterio-level jeersappeared to have Charlotte shook. She couldnt get any of her lines out, and meanwhile, Stratton rocked her with barbs that pulled no punches. Are you done, Stratton asked as Flairs opening overture seemed abbreviated by the crowd. Wade [Barrett], did she get her Wooo in? Listen, Charlotte, your biggest competitor has never been within this ring, your biggest competitor has always been them. And no matter how hard you try, no matter how long youre out for, thats a battle that youll never win. And you love to put this facade on, like nothing gets to you, like youre above everybody else, and then youre crying on some boo-hoo talk show. Which one is it, Charlotte? The saddest part about all of this is, no matter how many titles you win, you can break all the records, but when its said and done, youll always come second to your daddy, Ric Flair. And at WrestleMania, youre going to come second to me, Tiffany Stratton. Do you hear that? Thats power.Consider this: this entire mic session happened after Stratton strolled to the ring wearing an outfit that was very similar to what Flair was wearing. No one commented on it during the broadcast, but it seemed like it was done to show up the older Superstar.ROSEMONT, ILLINOIS - APRIL 4: Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton speak during SmackDown at ... More Allstate Arena on April 4, 2025 in Rosemont, Illinois. (Photo by Heather McLaughlin/WWE via Getty Images)WWE via Getty ImagesAs Flair continued to labor to get a word in over the booing crowd, Stratton went in for the kill.Whats the matter, Charlotte, cat caught your tongue? she asked facetiously.Charlotte literally backed into the corner and submitted to the crowds bullying, and gave Stratton the floor. The champion went in harder. Charlotte, at 25 years old, what were you doing? Stratton asked rhetorically. You were trying to be a volleyball player drinking in your daddys basement. And what am I doing at 25 years old, Im walking into WrestleMania as the WWE Womens Champion. You say this is just another match to you, seems like Ive gotten to you, Charlotte. And your WrestleMania record may be 4-3, and you may be the queen inside of the ring, but outside of the ring, you aint the queen of s###.As Stratton uttered the last line, her already nasally voice squeaked even more than normal, and Charlotte thought it might be time to try to regain control of the segment, but she was wrong.Stratton fired back, And for 16 more days, you get to call yourself WWE least favorite nepo baby, congratulations.Flair again attempted to inject her dominance: Nepo Queen! Number one nepo, baby. Again, Stratton rejected her attempt like Dikembe Mutombo in the paint. And when I beat you at WrestleMania, Charlotte, and when its all said and done, youre gonna be just like you are outside the ring, alone, Stratton said. What is that record? 0-3. WOOO!That was a shot at Charlottes recent divorce to WWE Superstar Andrade. Stratton hopped out of the ring after dropping that bomb, and Flair tried to deliver a parting shot.Tiffany, is that why Kaiser in my DMs?For those who are unaware, WWE Superstar, Ludwig Kaiser is Strattons real-life boyfriend.Wow. Here is a look at the video of the segment. There have been rumors Flair went off script to bury Strattons mic sessions earlier in the feud. Perhaps this was the young champions way to get payback. If so, it worked, and it made this feud a lot more interesting.Between the fiery darts Stratton let off and the way the crowd destroyed Flair, Im not sure Ive ever seen her have a worse day on WWE programming from a performance standpoint.Fans had a lot to say about the segment. One commenter on X said:"Tiff been getting grilled so bad they couldnt let Charlotte even speak a word.. Then tiff went below the belt with the divorces. That was kinda weak ngl"A second one said:A third commenter said:"Im convinced they don't like each other in real life... this about to become Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels "Sunny Days" real quick."A fourth commenter said:"That just brought some much needed life into this feud."I concur. Here is a look at all of the results from Smackdown.Rey Fenix def. • What To Watch This Weekend: New Shows And Movies To Stream On Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV And More
    www.forbes.com
What to watch this weekend.Credit: Netflix / AmazonApril has been quite the snowy month up here in the mountains, which is great if you want to sit inside and and cozy up with a good TV show or movie. Speaking of which, there are quite a few out this weekend for your viewing pleasure.Ive scoured the internet and the myriad streaming services we all subscribe to these days, and found some of the best new options for you to stream this weekend. If you have any tips or I missed something, shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. You can check out last weekends streaming guide right here.Whats New & Notable This WeekendThe Bondsman (Prime Video)Kevin Bacon stars as a Southern bounty hunter who returns from the dead after being murdered, courtesy of the devil himself. His new job? To hunt down demons on the devils behalf. He also has to contend with local thugs, his ex-wife and various other problems. I watched the first episode and it was okay. I have to watch more before I make up my mind.Devil May Cry (Netflix)Speaking of demon hunters, the new Devil May Cry show from Adi Shankar is great. Ive only watched a couple episodes so far, but it really does a great job capturing the feel of the video games. Dante is perfect with a devil-may-care attitude and plenty of fight, though hes a younger version of the character and still has a lot to learn. After I watched this, I fired up Devil May Cry 5 and played through a mission or two. You know its a good adaptation if it makes you want to play the game!Pulse (Netflix)I havent had time to watch Pulse on Netflix yet, but it caught my eye since Im so obsessed with The Pitt these days. This one does not sound as good, but I like Willa Fitzgerald and the rest of the cast is talented enough. More of a Greys Anatomy style show, so expect more romance and melodrama, but if youre looking for more medical dramas after The Pitt give it a shot. Its set in a Miami trauma center as a hurricane approaches, so plenty of opportunities for high-stakes conflict.Dying For Sex (Hulu)A dramedy (based on the true-life Wondery podcast) about a woman named Molly who is diagnosed with terminal cancer and decides to change her life, leaving her stagnant marriage in pursuit of good sex and, somewhat depressingly, her first orgasm. I do think the middle-aged woman leaves marriage to live carefree life of meaningless sex trend is a little tiresome at this point (Freddie DeBoer has a great bit on Miranda July here) but its also targeted at a very different viewership than your humble narrator.Hell Of A Summer (In Theaters)Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Billy Bryk wrote and directed this homage to 80s horror films. Its a pretty solid trailer, but the film itself is pretty divisive with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Some clearly love it to pieces while others say its boring and not particularly funny. A lot of times with movies in the 50% range on RT, the praise from positive reviews is tepid at best, but this one is pretty much a love it or hate it affair as far as I can tell. Cool to see Wolfhard branch out into making his own films, either way.Watch A Val Kilmer Movie (RIP)WillowCredit: LucasfilmVal Kilmer passed away this week at the age of 65. If I had to recommend five, they would be Willow (Kilmer plays Madmartigan), Tombstone (Doc Holliday), The Doors (Jim Morrison), Heat (where Kilmer joins Robert De Niro and Al Pacino), and both Top Gun films (Iceman). Plenty to choose from, but Willow is my favorite of the bunch. What Im Watching WeeklyThe Wheel Of Time (Prime Video)Its exceptionally rare for a show that begins its life with a lousy first season to become genuinely great by its third, but thats what The Wheel Of Time has done. Somehow each season is leaps and bounds better than the last. In Season 3, every episode feels like a full-length film. Most are at least 70 minutes long. The actors have settled into their roles. The writing has vastly improved. This is still no early Game Of Thrones but its a really solid epic fantasy and I look forward to each new episode every week. You can read my Season 3 review here. The White Lotus Finale (HBO / Max)In my latest review of HBOs The White Lotus, I expressed my concerns with this season. Ive written about each episode and up to this point, Ive been overwhelmingly positive, but Episode 7 fell flat for me. Im annoyed that we still have so little connectivity between storylines, that so little has happened this season, and that so much will have to be resolved in the extra-long season finale. Im hoping it actually pays off because theres plenty to love about this season but it just isnt coming together for me. Either way, the season is coming to an end. Hopefully its great. The Pitt (HBO / Max)Were 14 episodes into The Pitt at this point with just one more to go, and it remains absolutely riveting. Its like no other medical show on TV, partly because it adopts the real-time format of 24 and partly because its just incredibly top-notch, with very little melodrama. Read my review here. The Studio (Apple TV)I watched the first three episodes of The Studio on Apple TV and absolutely loved each one. I still need to write my review, but so far this show is off to a great start, especially if youre a movie buff and enjoy a parody of the industry, which basically describes me perfectly. This is a show made for people like me and its very funny, with humor similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office. I find Seth Rogen is typically best in smaller doses, but hes just right in the role of Matt Remick, the new studio chief at Continental, a fictional movie studio. Hes prone to making very big, very awkward mistakes. The second episode, in particular, is genuinely great.Ludwig (Britbox)A charming British murder-of-the-week series starring David Mitchell as a pair of twins, though you mostly see him as the somewhat on-the-spectrum puzzle setter, John Taylor. He has to impersonate his police detective brother, James, to solve an even bigger mystery: His twins mysterious disappearance. Its really charming and fun. You can read my review right here.Yellowjackets Season 3 (Paramount+)Yellowjackets keeps throwing big twists and turns at us in Season 3, but with just one episode left I hate to say that Im mostly pretty disappointed. The show is all over the place, and the adult timeline in particular feels more like a goofy Scooby-Doo show than the dread-inspiring first season. It is better than Season 2 for the most part, but this show has both run out of good ideas and keep throwing new, less good ideas at us week after week. Even the stars of the show seem annoyed at some of the writers choices, especially with the characters theyre killing off.Other shows that Im not following or caught up on but keep meaning to watch:1923 on Paramount+Happy Face on Paramount+MobLand on Prime VideoThe Righteous Gemstones on HBOHouse Of David on Prime VideoDope Thief on Apple TVDark Winds on AMCDaredevil: Born Again on Disney+What else did I miss? What are you watching these days? What should I put on this list or add to my backlog? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook.Further Reading From Yours Truly:I mostly covered video game news this past week, so links to TV and movie stuff are limited.Dont forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel!

  • These Vehicles Will Be The Least Affected By Trumps Tariffs, Statistics Show
    www.forbes.com
The Tesla Model 3 Performance is the vehicle most likely to escape the brunt of President Trump's ... More tariffs, containing an estimated 87.5% domestic content.TeslaIf theres one thing thats for certain about President Trumps twisted labyrinth of international trade tariffs, its that U.S. consumers will pay more in the months ahead for a new car, truck or SUV.As it stands so far, a 25% tariff on all cars and light-duty trucks imported into the U.S., along with major components like engines, transmissions, powertrain parts and electrical components went into effect on April 2. While that was 24 hours too late to be considered an April Fools Day prank, its still going to feel like slipping on a banana peel for new vehicle buyers, though some will likely suffer more than others. At one time it used to be crystal clear that a vehicle coming from either of the Big Three Detroit automakers would be considered 100% American, while those being brought here from Europe or Japan (and later South Korea) would fall cleanly into the import category. However, the lines between the two distinctions have blurred considerably in recent decades.Import brands including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Kia, Subaru, Hyundai, Merecedes-Benz, and BMW now build hundreds of thousands of vehicles in America-based factories. Conversely, some models from the domestic brands are assembled in Canada and Mexico, or are imported directly from South Korea, Italy or China. Sources suggest around 46% of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. last year were built elsewhere in the world. And thanks to globalization, even the most American cars and trucks contain some measure of imported content. Reports say that most cars built in the U.S contain 40% to 50% or more import-sourced parts and materials.Parsing out the math on each model coming off a U.S. assembly line to determine the exact tariff to be applied can be a daunting challenge. Its made head-achingly complicated in that major components and the vehicles themselves often crisscross borders multiple times on the way to their final assembly and ultimately dealers showrooms These would most likely pile on the tariff charges in the process, perhaps to ridiculously high amounts. Plus, the exact percentage of imported content on a given model might vary from one trim level to another, or may depend on which options are included. Also, its unsure how much of a given models tariffs will be passed on directly to consumers or will be absorbed by the automakers as part of the cost of doing business, either as per-model price increases or additional tariff charges noted on their Monroney stickers. Some analysts predict the average new-vehicles sticker price could well swell from around $5,000 to as much as $15,000 when all is said and done.As it stands, such price increases may take some weeks, and perhaps months to fully surface, depending on the breadth of vehicles and parts already in the supply chain (and theres always the possibility Trump will change course on imported cars and other goods in one direction or the other in the coming weeks and months). Astute car shoppers will want to know before setting foot on a showroom floor which models will inherently carry less of a tariff penalty than others. Already Ford has started a From America, For America ad campaign that highlights its most-American models.Since determining which vehicles for sale are more domestically contented than others can be a daunting challenge, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires automakers to provide consumers with data regarding the country of origin of every vehicle (and their components) sold in the U.S. The estimated percentage of North American parts used, where the vehicle is assembled and countries of origin for the engine and transmission is noted on each new vehicles so-called Monroney sticker.Rather than having to visit one showroom after another to gather this information, American Universitys Kogod School of Business compiles its annual Made in America Auto Index to determine which current new vehicles contribute the most to the U.S. economy. In addition to where a car or truck is assembled and the origin of the engine, transmission, body, interior, chassis, electrical and other components, the study accounts for where research and development was conducted and in which country the profits generated by each model ultimately wind up. Unfortunately, since the index is based in part on the aforementioned information compiled and issued by NHTSA, its not 100% accurate with regard to assembly and component content coming from Canada, as the agency treats both U.S. and Canadian (but not Mexican) assembly and content as being North American, and therefore domestic in origin.Trumps pal and DOGE advisor Elon Musk stands to come out the most ahead in the tariff wars, as Tesla leads the industry with an average 81% domestic content, placing five of its models atop the current index. While one tends to think of pickup trucks being all-American vehicles, the highest rated model in the genre is the Honda Ridgeline, being tied for ninth place and sitting way higher than the industrys top-selling F-150 truck (at number 22) in Kogods current index. The Most American Cars, Trucks And SUVsThese are the models the current Made in America Auto Index says are most likely to be slapped with the lowest tariffs moving forward, with their estimated percentages of domestic content noted:1. Tesla Model 3 Performance (87.5%)2. Tesla Model Y (85.0%)3. Tesla Cybertruck (82.5%)4. Tesla Model S (80.0%)4. Tesla Model X (80.0%)4. Ford Mustang GT (80.0%)5. Honda Passport (76.5%)6. • How Agentic AI Is Revolutionizing SecurityAnd How To Keep It Safe
    www.forbes.com
It's important to empower the future of automation with agentic AI, while safeguarding against ... More emerging security risks.gettyOne of the most promising developments in technology today is agentic AIthe evolution of AI tools that can perform complex, multi-step tasks autonomously and make contextual decisions with minimal human intervention. Unlike the standard generative AI models that have been the primary focus since ChatGPT came onto the scene, agentic AI is designed to operate independently, executing high-level commands and learning from its experiences. This capability holds immense potential across industries, from automating software development to revolutionizing cybersecurity operations. However, as AI systems begin to take on more autonomy, the security challenges they present must be addressed proactively.A Game Changer for BusinessAI agents are no longer limited to simple, reactive tasks like text generation or code completion. They now possess the ability to execute complex workflows, adapt to new situations and make decisions on the fly. Itamar Golan, CEO and co-founder of Prompt Security, noted, Agentic AI differs from traditional GenAI tools in their ability to independently perform multi-step tasks and make contextual decisions. This ability to autonomously complete tasks is not just a time-saver; it can fundamentally transform how organizations approach operations, particularly in IT and security.A prime example of agentic AI in action comes from Amazon Web Services, where AI agents were used to automate the transition of Java applications from older versions to Java 17. Chris Betz, CISO of AWS, explained, It's not just a recompile. You actually have to go through and rewrite the code to make it Java 17 compatible. This process, which would traditionally require weeks of effort from developers for each application, was completed in a fraction of the time by leveraging agentic AI. These tools allow developers to focus on more innovative tasks, while AI handles the heavy lifting of routine updates and transitions. Betz estimated that AWS saved about 4500 years of developer work by going through building this tool. That said, the rise of agentic AI also introduces new risks, particularly around security and control. As Patrick Xu, co-founder and CTO at Aurascape AI, notes, With the advent of agentic AI, these technologies naturally become attractive targets for malicious actors. We can expect attackers to continuously innovate and devise novel ways to exploit AI-driven systems. This new attack surface requires robust safeguards to ensure that AI agents operate securely within their designated tasks.Key Security Considerations for Agentic AIWhile agentic AI promises significant operational efficiency, it also brings security risks that cannot be ignored. These risks stem from the AIs ability to execute actions without human oversight, its broad system access and its real-time decision-making loops. To mitigate these challenges, organizations must implement a comprehensive security framework.1. Authentication and AuthorizationAs agentic AI agents gain more responsibilities, ensuring strict control over what they can access is crucial. This means implementing proper authentication and authorization protocols to prevent unauthorized access to critical systems. According to Ariful Huq, co-founder at Exaforce, A critical enabler for secure, agentic AI is robust identity and permission management that establishes clear provenance for every action an AI agent takes on a users behalf. Ensuring that agents can only access the resources they need is key to minimizing potential security risks.2. Output ValidationOne of the most critical components of AI security is output validation. Just as user input is considered untrusted until validated, AI-generated output must undergo rigorous scrutiny before being acted upon. AI systems, like any software, are prone to errors, and their autonomous nature means these errors can have widespread impacts if left unchecked. Proper validation ensures that AI outputs are reliable and aligned with organizational standards.3. SandboxingAI agents should never be allowed to execute code or perform tasks in a live environment without first being tested in a controlled, isolated sandbox. Sandboxing allows organizations to catch any errors or unexpected behaviors before they affect production systems. By implementing this practice, organizations can ensure that AI-generated actions are safe and do not pose a threat to the larger system.4. Transparent LoggingTransparency is essential for maintaining control over AI actions. Detailed logging of every step an AI agent takes allows security teams to understand how decisions are made and track any potential issues. This is particularly important for accountability and troubleshooting. When you have an AI agent, you want to know what it did and how it got there, says Chris Betz. Detailed logs provide the insight needed to diagnose problems and improve security practices over time.5. Continuous Testing and MonitoringGiven the evolving nature of AI, continuous security testing is essential. Organizations should implement red-teaming and penetration testing to assess vulnerabilities within their AI systems and ensure they are resistant to new threats. As Ori Bendet, VP of product management at Checkmarx, highlights, With agentic AI, automated security is easy, securing the automation process is harder. Ongoing testing and monitoring help ensure that AI systems remain secure as they evolve.Risks and Biases in Agentic AIAs with all AI technologies, agentic AI raises important ethical concerns. One of the most pressing issues is the potential for AI to inherit biases from its training data. AI agents, when trained on biased or incomplete data, can make flawed or discriminatory decisions. In cybersecurity, for example, AI systems used to monitor network traffic or respond to incidents could potentially introduce new risks if they misinterpret their tasks or make biased decisions.Nicole Carignan, SVP at Darktrace, warns, Without proper oversight, agentic AI may misinterpret their tasks, leading to unintended behaviors that could introduce new security risks. Organizations must remain vigilant in ensuring that AI agents are trained on high-quality, unbiased data and are regularly audited for fairness and accuracy. The autonomous nature of agentic AI means that these systems can be manipulated, much like human employees. Just as attackers use social engineering to trick people, AI agents can be tricked into executing malicious actions. Guy Feinberg, growth product manager at Oasis Security, points out, The real risk isnt AI itself, but the fact that organizations dont manage these non-human identities (NHIs) with the same security controls as human users.Organizations must treat AI agents like human identities, assigning them appropriate permissions, monitoring their activity and implementing clear policies to prevent abuse.Empowering Innovation Without Losing ControlDespite their growing autonomy, agentic AI systems should be seen as tools that augment human capabilities, not as replacements for human oversight. While AI agents can handle repetitive and time-consuming tasks, human judgment is still required to ensure that outputs align with organizational goals and ethical standards. As Chris Betz notes, AI is here to make people go better and faster, not to replace them. Its about augmentation, not replacement. For businesses to fully realize the potential of agentic AI, they must maintain a balance between automation and human oversight. By leveraging AI to handle routine tasks, organizations can free up human employees to focus on more strategic, creative and high-value work.Brian Murphy, CEO of ReliaQuest also stressed that agentic AI can automate many tasks, but human judgment will remain crucial. I personally do not believe we are ever going to separate a trained and skilled human in the last mile decision making.Balancing Innovation with SecurityThe future of agentic AI holds tremendous promise. As these intelligent systems continue to evolve, they will drive innovation, improve efficiency and create new opportunities for organizations across industries. However, with this power comes significant responsibility. To fully harness the potential of agentic AI, businesses must implement robust security practices, maintain human oversight and ensure that ethical concerns are addressed. By doing so, they can unlock the transformative power of AI while safeguarding their systems against emerging threats.Agentic AI represents the next step in automating generative AI. As soon as humans become less prevalent, the risk of failure increases, but with proper safeguards in place, the benefits far outweigh the risks, says David Benas, principal security consultant at Black Duck. With thoughtful security frameworks and responsible oversight, agentic AI has the potential to transform industries and redefine the way businesses operateempowering a future where automation and human creativity work hand in hand.

  • 3 Myths About How Body Counts Affect Your Love Life By A Psychologist
    www.forbes.com
Everyone on the internet has an opinion about how your "body count" affects your relationships. But ... More what does science have to say on the subject?gettyThe topic of sexual partners is something that sparks extremely heated debates in most social circles. Harsh opposing views can be heard on every side of the argument, and it does not seem like either side is going to change their mind any time soon.On one side, people with a more conservative view believe that keeping your body count as low as possible if youre not in a committed relationship ultimately improves the quality of your future relationship. Other people feel like they should be allowed to have as many partners as they choose without being judged by society. The number of sexual partners you have in your lifetime is one of the most personal aspects of your life. Ultimately, only you can decide what feels right for you. However, popular media and social discourse have turned this topic into a moral battleground, perpetuating myths that reinforce shame, fear and outdated stereotypes. Here are three common myths about how body count affects relationships.Myth 1: A High Body Count Damages RelationshipsIf youve gone down the dark rabbit hole of this topic, youve probably heard one or more podcast hosts refer to people, especially women, as somehow tainted if they have a high body count. The rhetoric pushed here is that someone with a high body count has less value and will either make a terrible partner or no one will want them in the first place. This belief is often fueled by cultural and religious norms rather than scientific evidence. While some people personally prefer partners with less sexual experience, there is no research proving that a high body count makes someone a bad partner. In fact, research suggests a much more nuanced relationship between premarital sexual experience and divorce rates.Women with very few or many partners before marriage face a higher risk of divorce, while those with moderate experience (3-9 partners) have the lowest risk. And while virgins do have the lowest risk overall, this number has declined significantly over time. This suggests that marrying a partner with a low body count does not guarantee a long-lasting relationship. More importantly, it challenges the idea that sexual experience alone determines relationship success. What matters far more are qualities like emotional intelligence, communication skills, compatibility and the ability to work through conflict.Myth 2: People With High Body Counts Dont Value IntimacyJust because someone comes into a relationship with significant sexual experience does not mean they view intimacy as unimportant. Someone with multiple prior partners is no less capable than others of forming deep connections in a committed relationship. At its core, intimacy is about emotional closeness, trust and vulnerability. A person with a high body count may, in fact, have developed a deeper understanding of intimacy through their experiences, learning what creates connection and what doesnt. They may have gained valuable insights into emotional availability, communication and mutual pleasure, which can enhance their ability to nurture a meaningful bond. This is not to say that having multiple partners might not affect your relationship with your future partner at all. The more people you experience a sexual relationship with, the more comparisons you might be inclined to make.If youve had former partners who excelled in certain areas of intimacy, you may be more likely to notice where your spouse falls short. A 2023 report from the Wheatley Institute found that individuals who had only ever been with their spouse reported higher sexual satisfaction and longer-lasting marriages. This may be because they have no basis for comparison, leading to greater contentment and appreciation within the relationship. However, when either or both partners do have experience to compare to, it also equips them to understand what works best for them, and gives them a chance to show their partners how to meet their needs. This creates an opportunity for healthy communication and can bring partners closer, rather than expecting the other person to just know what they like. Moreover, the idea that a person with a high body count is incapable of deep connection is rooted in outdated assumptions about sexuality and morality. People have different reasons for engaging in sex some may seek connection, others may explore their own desires and some may simply enjoy the experience. None of these motivations inherently diminish a persons capacity for love, emotional depth or long-term commitment.Myth 3: People With A High Body Count Cannot CommitA popular argument against having multiple partners before tying the knot is that your sense of commitment will be warped. People who push this viewpoint are under the assumption that having a large number of sexual partners renders you incapable of commitment. However, research does not support this claim. A 2023 study in Social Science Research found that while having multiple non-marital sexual partners is linked to lower short-term odds of marriage, this effect diminishes over time and has little impact on long-term commitment. In other words, early sexual experiences may influence when someone chooses to settle down, but they do not dictate whether they will be capable of maintaining a committed relationship in the future.Commitment is determined by a mindset, not a number. People with extensive sexual experience can be just as devoted and faithful as those with little or no experience. At its core, the idea that body count determines commitment, relationship success or personal worth is deeply flawed. People are not defined by the number of partners theyve had but by the way they approach love, trust and connection in their relationships.A persons ability to commit is shaped by their emotional readiness, communication skills and shared values with their partner not by a past tally of experiences. Moreover, the term body count itself carries a strong undercurrent of shame, particularly toward women. It reduces human relationships to a mere statistic and often reinforces outdated, sexist double standards. While men are frequently praised for their sexual experience, women with the same history are more likely to be judged or deemed less valuable. This language reflects a broader cultural issue of objectification one that equates a womans worth with her sexual past while ignoring the far more important qualities that make someone a loving, loyal and committed partner.Instead of focusing on arbitrary numbers, we should shift the conversation to what truly matters in relationships mutual respect, trust, emotional security and the ability to grow together. Whether someone enters a partnership with extensive experience or none at all, their past should not overshadow their present ability to build something meaningful. Is body count discourse a point of contention in your relationship? • A Canadian Dreamed Of Being A Fighter Pilot; Now He Dogfights With Russian Drones
    www.forbes.com
A Russian Lancet attack drone seconds before Butcher's interceptor drone brought it down Ukrainian MoDA Canadian recently celebrated becoming the first foreigner to take down a Russian Lancet loitering munition. The drone pilot, who goes by the callsign Butcher (Myasnyk or in Ukrainian) belongs to an elite interceptor unit, fighting a new type of war in the sky. Many have compared it to the early days of combat aviation during WW1, when pilots used improvised weapons and tactics in a rapidly developing struggle for supremacy. You never know what your opponent will come up with next, and aircraft and pilots are pushed to the edge of their ability. At the moment it is, hands down, the most challenging work in terms of drones in Ukraine, Butcher told me.There Is No Career Path For ThisHis fearsome-sounding nickname actually comes from the fact that he used to be a butcher back home. This Canadian has come a long way, travelling to Ukraine in 2023 for an NGO doing humanitarian work. But he soon decided this was not enough.Drone interceptor pilot 'Butcher' Murray Wegeler @murray.wgHumanitarian work is critically important but will not end the war, says Butcher. I made the decision to switch to fighting the war.In his forties and with bad knees, Butcher was not cut out to be an infantryman. But a new combat specialty was in demand: drone operator. He volunteered with the nonprofit group Wild Hornets, who turn donations into lethal drone hardware and who introduced him to a whole new world.Wild Hornets taught me to build, maintain and fly drones, says Butcher. I got in a lot of flying practice.Butcher the joined the 25th Air Assault Brigade with the intention of operating strike drones hunting tanks. The commander asked if he was interested in working in air defence, and he jumped at the chance. It would be the fulfilment of a boyhood dream.Butcher had always wanted to be a fighter pilot, an ambition thwarted by poor eyesight. No surprise that he played a lot of video games as a teen, including plenty of air-to-air combat games and countless hours on MS Flight Simulator.I would say being a gamer has definitely helped, says Butcher. You develop hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and you can see small changes on a monitor. But he notes that gaming skills are not essential. His unit commander, a four-time ace at downing drones, never even played video games. It takes a lot of different factors, and different people bring different assets to the table, says Butcher. There is no career path for this.Battling In The SkiesThe interceptors stand between Ukrainian forces and Russian drones, including reconnaissance drones which call down artillery and rocket fire and attack drones.Murray Wegeler @murray.wgButcher's team prepare an interceptor for launch We are out in position 24/7, very much like WWII fighter pilots waiting for the call to scramble, says Butcher. At other times we are already up in the air and just jump from target to target or area to area, guarding the skies in a particular sector.Multiple teams cover a sector, and Butcher says close co-ordination and team work is essential. His recipe for success is Patience, strategy, teamwork, skill, communication -- and a dose of luck.As Butcher sees it the FPV operators going after Russian tanks have it easy. Their target stays more or less in one place, is always at the same altitude and is usually obvious. Strike missions on the ground are a matter of flying in a straight line to a location, identifying the target there and engaging it.Intercepting drones in the air is harder. We get intel on targets, and we go searching for those targets, and once weve found them we get up close and detonate our drone, says Butcher. Whats complicated is what happens in the air.Video gaming skills are useful but not essential Murray Wegeler @murray.wgFinding drones is challenging when you do not know exactly where they are or at what altitude. Unlike crewed aircraft, Butchers interceptor does not have radar, so he relies on visually spotting drones which may have a wingspan of just a few feet. Some, like the flat flying wing Supercam are virtually invisible seen edge-on.Its very, very difficult to sight in, to get visual on the target, says Butcher. Intel is not always super-accurate, so we have to use our brains and intuition -- like understanding what they might be searching for in order to find them.Interceptors try to approach from above and behind where they will not be spotted by the Russian drone operator. If they can get close then the job may be a quick one.Once an interceptor gets into this position, the target is in trouble. But getting there is not easyUkraine MoDBut increasingly Russian reconnaissance drones are fitted with rear-facing cameras. When it spots something coming, the camera triggers a series of automatic evasive maneuvers, a system known as Ukhylyant (Evader, but also draft dodger). Were flying all over the place chasing targets, doing maneuvers. Its very much like dogfighting, says Butcher. The interceptor is armed with an explosive charge, so the pilot has just one chance to get in close enough and trigger it. But the success rate is high.Once we get eyes on a target, it's usually going down, says Butcher. I'd say roughly 75% of the time this is the case. The Lancet kill was a notable success, because while Russian scout drones orbit in an area for several hours, the Lancet flies directly to its target. It requires a greater sense of urgency, says Butcher. Both because of the limited time it's in the air, and because of its intended use.Knocking one down means that the Lancet one of Russias most effective weapons will never reach its target. Intercepting saves lives.Remote War, Danger CloseFlying a drone might seem less risky than being in the air. But the Russians are constantly locating and targeting Ukrainian drone teams, who are considered high value targets. We're under fire pretty much every day, says Butcher. Artillery, KABs [Russian glide bombs], FPVs, and MLRS [multiple launch rocket systems] are launched all the time. We have plenty of close calls. It's just that some days are closer than others.Meanwhile drone combat is changing fast. Video has emerged of new Ukrainian interceptors armed with shotguns and netguns, and devices (presumably jammers) that can bring down drones without contact. Similarly, the Russian reconnaissance drones are currently unarmed, though there has been much discussion on Russian Telegram channels of fitting rear-firing weapons.Luckily the Ukrainians are good at adapting swiftly to new demands. In Ukraine, we have a sort of direct-to-consumer model happening where we on the front are able to directly communicate with and procure drone technology from companies," says Butcher. We can get a new prototype on a Sunday, test it, and provide feedback on Monday. The company will make changes over the next couple of days, and by Friday, we could have the next generation in our hands.A shipment of new fixed-wing interceptorsArmy of DronesThe interceptors themselves are evolving. The originals were simply modified FPVs like those hitting ground targets. Now there are various bullet-shaped types with improved aerodynamics capable of much greater speeds as well as fixed wings. In sufficient numbers, a network of interceptors may one day protect Ukraine from the nightly waves of Shahed drones, which are not often seen in Butchers zone. They [Shaheds] are rarely in our AO [Area of Operations], so we don't get many opportunities to go after them, says Butcher They tend to be used to strike cities and civilian targets in the rear as opposed to front-line work. They're tools of terror as opposed to tactical weapons, in my opinion.Daily OperationsThe interceptor pilots maintain their vigil, sometimes flying twenty sorties a day. Unlike other teams who have safe houses at the rear and who rotate out every three or four days, their work is continuous. One day this will all be over. Some people might have had enough flying, but Butcher wants to carry on being a drone operator after the war.I plan to continue working with drones in some capacity, says Butcher. That was part of my motivation for getting into drones. I figured if I survived the war, it would be good to come out of it with an employable skill. He already has a combat record in drone warfare that few non-Ukrainians can match. If NATO militaries want to learn about how to fight the wars of the future, Butchers knowledge is likely to be in high demand.(Butchers Paypal is UAMyasnyk@gmail.com for direct donations to his work. One interceptor drone costs less than $1,000 and can bring down a Russian drone costing more than a hundred times as much - and, more importantly, save lives,Special thanks to Murray Wegeler for permission to use images).
