SKETCHFAB.COMSketchfab Update: What You Need To Know Now That Fabs LiveWe are excited to share that Fab launched today. Fab is a one-stop destination where you can discover, buy, sell, and share digital assets. This is the first step on a long journey, and while very little is changing today for most of the Sketchfab community, weve pulled together some answers to questions you might have below. What is happening to the Sketchfab Store? The Sketchfab Store is now closed. All products previously listed on the Sketchfab Store will remain viewable on Sketchfab but will no longer be available for purchase and model pages will no longer display ratings and reviews. If you were a Sketchfab Store seller and have not already moved your work to Fab, you will need to migrate your products if you want to be able to continue earning revenue from your products. If I was a Sketchfab Store seller and Ive already migrated and published my products on Fab, what do I need to know?If you have migrated your products to Fab, your model pages will remain visible on Sketchfab and will now include a link out to your Fab product pages so buyers know where to purchase your content. All product star ratings that your models may have had were transferred over to Fab from the Sketchfab Store, but Fab does not support comments, likes, followers and other social features, so those items have not transferred to Fab. We will, however, continue to support followers, likes, and viewing statistics for all models published on Sketchfab. On Fab, you will have access to an updated 3D viewer and editor, media galleries, expanded payout options, and the ability to set Personal and Professional tier prices. To help you get settled and maximize revenue opportunities in the new marketplace, were offering 100% revenue share on sales of Fab Standard-licensed products for the rest of the year.If I was a Sketchfab Store seller and I have not yet migrated and published my products on Fab, what do I need to know? You will still be able to migrate your products to Fab well into 2025 and we will provide plenty of notice before the migration window closes. The Sketchfab Store has closed, so you will be unable to make any new sales or earn any revenue on Sketchfab. Can I still access content that Ive previously purchased from the Sketchfab Store?Yes, if you purchased content from the Sketchfab Store, you will continue to have access to it through the Purchases section of your profile menu.Whats happening to free and view-only content on Sketchfab?Whether youre an artist, hobbyist, or member of a cultural, scientific, or educational institution, nothing is changing to your experience at this time. Free and view-only models will remain where they are and anyone who visits Sketchfab will be able to continue accessing them. You can also continue uploading new free and view-only content on Sketchfab as you do today. We will provide plenty of notice before free downloadable content is no longer supported on Sketchfab.Fab will continue to develop into a destination for sharing and managing view-only 3D content. In 2025, Fab will release a streamlined sign-up process for users who wish to only offer free content for download. We also plan to expand support for additional license types on Fab and will update our community when a wider range of licenses become available there.Whats happening with Sketchfabs community features?Sketchfabs community and core features including comments, followers, likes, collections, viewing stats, and more remain exactly where they are today. Store features, such as ratings, reviews and Store-specific search filters, no longer appear on Sketchfab.Whats changing if Im on a Pro or Premium subscription?Nothing. Sketchfabs core features remain unchanged. You may continue publishing 3D models publicly and privately with all the same 3D viewer features, using the embedded 3D viewer on external websites, converting files to glTF and USDZ, and using any other features you have access to today. In the future, Fab will offer 3D asset management solutions and will add new advanced features to its 3D viewer.Whats changing if Im a Sketchfab Enterprise customer?Sketchfabs business solutions (Enterprise licenses and Sketchfab for Teams) will remain right where they areon Sketchfabfor the foreseeable future. Any Sketchfab integrations and content libraries that our enterprise clients have will remain unchanged until we provide an alternative on Fab.Our aim is to transition Sketchfabs business solutions to Fab no earlier than the second half of 2025. We will communicate in advance of any changes. Are the Sketchfab 3D Viewer, 3D Editor, and 3D Embeds still available?Yes. Sketchfabs 3D capabilities and feature set remain unchanged.Fabs 3D viewer, which is an updated and streamlined version of Sketchfabs viewer, is only available for use on Fab. We will continue improving and adding new features to Fabs 3D viewer. Can I continue using Sketchfab import/export integrations?Yes. You can still import models from Sketchfabs library into digital content creation tools. You can also continue exporting models to Sketchfab but you will no longer be able to set a price on exported models because the Sketchfab Store is now closed. Can I continue using Sketchfab APIs?Yes. Sketchfab will continue to support its APIsdownload, viewer, and datafor the foreseeable future. In 2025, we plan to introduce a public download API for Fab, enabling easy access to its extensive library of free and for-purchase content, which will include not just 3D models but also game engine formats (Unreal Engine and Unity) and additional asset formats as Fab continues to expand its offerings.Head over to the Epic Developer Community to stay up to date on whats happening with Fab. SKETCHFAB.COMMeet the Masters: Tycho Magnetic AnomalyHello, I am Tycho Magnetic Anomaly, an artist living in the Republic of Ireland. My primary focus is on creating Motion Art using Blender and Sketchfab, aiming to make interesting looking and satisfying-to-watch animated abstract art.Above all, I love to explore and experiment with the possibilities Sketchfab can offer as a tool to create art.I have had a background in General Art / Graphic Design for a long time, from advert design to game art. I have also had experience with more abstract art including a few years creating both 2D and 3D fractals. Above: Time Tunnel Cube Cascade Lime Petals Extreme PossibilitiesIn recent years, I decided to sign up to Sketchfab to use it as a general online model viewer since at the time I was trying to get back in 3D. However it wasnt long before I started to realize what Sketchfab is capable of as an art medium in itself and so I started to experiment with creating Motion Art. Before I knew what was what, I started to specialize in Motion Art / Motion Graphics. The biggest inspirations that encouraged me to create Motion Art are the magical things I have seen from Processing Artists and Shadertoy Artists along with many other Artists that produce abstract / motion graphics also, going back as far as the Amiga demo scene. Many of my works are also directly inspired by the sciences (especially the natural sciences) but are always abstract and not actual representations of such. I also have a general interest in geometry, shapes, patterns, tiling, numbers, and so on. Although a very minor aspect, early on I set myself the challenge of titling my Motion Art works with two word titles only which has actually turned out to be a fun challenge, especially when the artwork was inspired by something specific. And naturally the Sketchfab community has given me so much encouragement along the way, which has always been a constant inspiration to me to continue to create with Sketchfab.I am fascinated by interesting geometry and patterns which feature a lot throughout my works.I love color, so many of my works tend to be quite colorful and/or vivid. I adore playing with light, making it dance, bending it, bouncing it. As a result, many of my works are using tricks of light.I am like a moth to a light bulb when it comes to neons and glows which I have featured in my works often. I like to spoof particle-like effects and volumetric-type effects a lot. Above all the most important thing for me is the Motion. The Motion comes first and as a consequence I put particular effort in trying to create seamless loops so no matter how long or short the Motion Art is, there is never an abrupt end or start to them in most cases.Even though my primary focus has been Motion Art for a while, I have uploaded a variety of other things, some non-animated and some not abstract, some experiments and personal exercises too. You can explore all my things by checking out the links at the end of this article.I do all the Mesh and Animation work in Blender. Everything elsematerials, lighting, camera, post-processingis created entirely with the Sketchfab engine.I am pretty old-school when it comes to method. Everything I do is based on very primitive and simplistic form and motion which is replicated and varied to produce something that may appear more complex than it actually is.Many of my things may have a fractal-like appearance in form, or motion or both, I suppose this might be no surprise with my interest in fractal systems and history in making fractal art. Above: Hyper Fractal II Psychedelic Macaroni Polychromatic Warp Cyber SporeI do not use Nodes in Blender such as material nodes, geometry nodes or animation nodes, I do not use any particle systems or any physics of any kind.On Sketchfab I am limited to 3 dynamic lights which cant be animated, a camera which cant be animated, and materials that cant be animated, as well as other limitations. I have found it both a joy and challenge to create certain effects that I would have thought impossible for Sketchfab to do when I first started. Besides the challenge in making Sketchfab do certain things, I have also really enjoyed using Sketchfabs 3D editor with its deceivingly limited set of parameters and options compared to tools such as Blender. The lack of in-depth options has, I feel, heavily contributed to my technique and resulting style and is also a huge reason why I have never focused much on rendering in Blender itself.Everything I make is designed to perform well on 1080 GTX (or equivalent) with an i7 CPU at 60fps / 60Hz at a standard 19801080 HD resolution, preferably in full screen, at night in the dark!My things may struggle on older tech, mobile devices or computers running higher resolutions and monitor refresh rates.I have not personally experienced any of my things or indeed anything on Sketchfab in VR or AR but I have been told some of my things are interesting to view in VR, however because I have not tested these platforms I cannot guarantee all of my things will perform well. Some of my work may look drastically different depending on resolution (screen size / window size), in particular my technique of using alpha masking. These ones especially would ideally be viewed only at the recommended viewing suggestion, mentioned above.A tiny percentage of my things have a very slight glitch / jump / pause in the loop which I have tried numerous times to resolve but have been unable to find a solutionit only affects a very small number of my things, thankfully.I often spend quite a bit of time choosing suitable accompanying music for much of my work, keep an eye out for any accompanying music links in the descriptions in each of my works for the best experience. (None of the accompanying music choices were created by me.) You can explore all my Motion Art and other things here on my full Sketchfab portfolio.I have a regular ArtStation portfolio where I mirror most of the things I have posted on Sketchfab but in some cases have also provided interesting still images from exploring certain Motion Art works on Sketchfab.I also have an alternate ArtStation portfolio website. It has been a wonderful experience for me to have discovered Sketchfab as an artist tool. Although Blender has played its part, Sketchfab has often felt like my paints, brush and canvas all at the same time. The community and staff have all been fantastic, and seeing the amazing artistic and creative content on Sketchfab continues to amaze and inspire me.My only regret is coming a little late to the party. If you wish to contact me privately then please send me a message via ArtStation. I may be open to hearing offers of work or collaborations so dont hesitate to get in touch for any inquiries.
